Thursday, October 28th, 2021 I walked into the store today to return an item. There was no problem on my end. The item still had its tag on, I had the receipt, and it was within the 30-day return limit. (Keep in mind, today was my last day to return the item, but it was a coincidence and not intentional.) I went over to the front register where the women's floor is. Business as usual, the employee called me over, and I asked to return an item and showed her the receipt. So this is where things start to get weird. The employee looked at the receipt and immediately began an investigation as to why I waited until the last day. I explained that I didn't get a chance to return it earlier, not that it's any of her business. I didn't think anything of it. But the encounter started to get incredibly awkward because she started quizzing me on my whereabouts and seemed overall shocked with the fact that it was indeed my last day. The date shouldn't be such a big deal because it is Zara's policy. The employee had a wisecracking tone, which I did not appreciate at all. Then I joked, "maybe it was more than just a coincidence." She replied, "what does coincidence mean?" Maybe she didn't know what it meant since she had an accent, and I could tell English was not her native language. No problem. Then I lightheartedly said, "a coincidence is when...", then she immediately interrupted, "I don't like that." I thought to myself, what a rude response, but I didn't respond. She finally returned the item, and I left. So you could tell I felt super uncomfortable once I left the store. The experience was awful. This employee was clearly projecting her issues onto me. Maybe she was just having a bad day. But it was completely unprofessional, and it did not reflect well on the store environment. If she doesn't like the return policy, then maybe she shouldn't work in retail, I suppose. The employee is middle-aged, of average height, has long brownish thick hair, wears glasses, and has an accent. I did not get her name, but she was very rude. This location could not possible get it more wrong more times. The staff is ok but the management needs training in customer service and appropriate behavior. They make purchasing and returning absolutely impossible. I will Never ever shop there again. Wouldn't let me use a gift card for part of a purchase and then after I spent $1000 in store they forgot to give me a receipt and wouldn't accept a return for even store credit.... they have no records of purchases from less than a week ago. I love Zara clothing but this place takes terrible customer service to the next level. It's hard to believe this place has any management in place at all. It seems like every time I go there no matter if it's a Saturday morning or a Wednesday morning or how many tons of people they have in line they manage to generate a register line a mile long with one lonely person doing long complicated returns and ringing up. Plus one additional person standing in the front pretending to straighten out the same rack over and over which only infuriates the people waiting in line right next to them wondering why they can't hop on one of the two open registers. Today I was near the front of the line with another string of people behind me but sat in line for 20 minutes on a Tuesday at 11 am---not some crazy Saturday afternoon or holiday weekend. When I and another woman finally asked the clothes straighting lady if she could help out the person sweating bullets on the register she gives us attitude telling us to calm down (in a patronizing voice) that someone is on their way. A solid five minutes later another girl shows up to the register not to assist the one lonely guy but to replace him. UNBELIEVABLE! The new girl finally announces to the woman who looks like she's pretending to be a manager that the other registers are broken hence only one person. The guy comes back up and says people can come downstairs. No direction of the line or anything basically the first one who gets downstairs wins. Just a mess. Not to mention the fitting rooms. I walk in there with a stroller and the lady is like take any fitting room the first one is open. Just bring everything out. Really? Well with a stroller I obviously can't fit myself and my child in the small fitting room and the only open large one was filled with racks of clothes like a storage space. Really Zara you can't afford to hire enough people to manage this fiasco? and should I mention again this is literally 11 am in the afternoon not the end of a long day. I went shopping at Zara with my fiancee and loved the styles. Both of us liked almost every outfit I tried on. The size selection was good - unlike some other stores which run out of large very quickly. The store was pretty clean and organized as well. The checkout took a while, which is typical for a busy weekend in Santa Monica... so the only real gripe is that their dressing rooms are segregated, so if there is a line for men's and none for women's, there's nothing to do but wait. read more

If only I can give a zero star rating I would. First off, the entire store is a cluster f of clothes just everywhere. The staff is so poorly trained in customer service, you'd think you're begging them to provide service to you. My good friend and I went in to grab our girls (ages 5 & 7) some sweaters since it was cold outside, and the staff was so rude to us telling us to "manage our kid better" because they were playing with the belts hanging by where the ridiculous 30 minute line was. They were just being kids, and so much to control when the line is so long. This worker then had the audacity to claim that we should figure out how to control them better. When we asked for the manager, he, who was being rude to us, claimed he was the supervisor and when we asked for his name he stated "legally I don't have to provide you with my name." Then, the girl next to him started to laugh and jibber jabber to her other coworker about us, and then refused to provide service to us. So we had to wait while customers were taken after us, while the supervisor rang up another customer to give us service because the other two "refused." What in the heck of a world do we live in, where a "supervisor" of a chain clothing store is allowed to speak to customers like this? Even the other workers who have zero customer service skills, and laughing along like a rebellious teenagers in high school. It was a mind baffling experience to say the least, one where I'm still processing on how these workers treated us like we're not humans all because our kids were "misbehaving" in their eyes. Management, please take a closer look at your workers, and provide them with the adequate skills to better behave and respect customers when they are just there minding their own business. I'll keep it simple for my 2 star review. I had to get a $50 gift card for my friend's 4 year old daughter bday, and I visited this store and waited in the line for 20 minutes. It was my turn and I was called to the cashier. Cashier: "Next person in line" Me: Hi, I just need a gift card for $50.00 plz" Cashier: "Ok. hold on..." Me: "Thanks. here's $50 (handing over $50 in cash) Cashier: "Ohhhh WAIT.. you are paying in CASH???" Me: "Yea, why is there a problem?" Cashier: "Uh uh .. I don't take cash.. nah.. you gotta go back in line. This is credit card ONLY" Me: "Uhhh...Okay.. The most horrible zara location I've ever been in! Customer service is almost laughable. We were in a different location but they didn't have the size we needed so the store called this Santa Monica location for us. Mind you, we were over an hour away but we were going to drive to Santa Monica to pick the item up...we were told they were gonna put it on hold for 15 minutes?!? I was so disappointed by their inconsiderate manager, I cancelled my plans to buy a wedding entourage's dress from them! We were gonna buy brunch party dresses for 20 ladies and 18 men from them but after this...we did our shopping in Anthropologie. The bad reviews are all accurate. The staff here are beyond rude. They don't bother acknowledging you at the register, just talk to each other like you don't exist. Every time I've been in, the wait has been ridiculous because 3 people are handling one return. Changing rooms were closed and when we asked the staff member stood scrolling on their phone, they said because they don't have enough staff (there were two others just stood chatting to each other at the time). I went in yesterday looking for a specific pair of shoes that the website says they had in stock, asked the woman on the floor if they could have any in the store room as I couldn't see them, she checked her little machine and said yeah there's 4 pairs out, then just walked off. 4 laps of the store and 30 minutes later, no shoes found. If it weren't for the dirt-cheap steals and deals, I wouldn't be able to stomach a visit here: ____________ - For one thing, the register lines at Zara move at a snail's pace - and that's no exaggeration. I would strongly advise against shopping here if you're in any particular rush. Our last visit involved a wait in line that pushed close to 30 minutes; it certainly didn't help that only one of the two registers on the men's floor was in operation - and the sales associates hardly seemed to care as the line only continued to grow & grow. - Upkeep and cleanliness are both put on the backburner at the Santa Monica Zara store. But don't take my word for it...see photos! Clothes are piled up and tossed around, and I began to wonder if anyone was staffing this store besides the one person at the register and the other "loss prevention"/clothes folding guy situated near the fitting rooms. + In spite of the above criticisms, there's a flipside to my distaste for the Zara shopping experience - and that would be that their prices simply cannot be beat, especially once those end-of-season sales roll around. Well-made, durable black denim pants, priced normally at around $75-79, drop to very enticing lows of about $29-39. Hard to beat those price points, especially when considering that, from my experience, Zara's wares last significantly longer than those of competitors such as H&M. I gave up on Zara long ago I really did. I had quite a few of their blazers for work which I still have to this day so obviously the quality wasn't that bad. Not as good as say jcrew or even Banana Republic but nevertheless good. What made me stop shopping here was an experience I had with their shoes. I wish I had a yelp account when this happened, this was a good 5 years ago, that way I could have wrote an angry review while it was fresh in my memory. I still remember the whole experience like it was yesterday, but I am not mad any more. And I actually went into Zara today and bought the cutest blazer that I'll be rocking to work tomorrow hence the 4 stars. But back to the shoe incident, which I still will never buy here no matter how much I adore them. I bought a pair of the cutest orange pumps. I wore em to work the next day. I sit at my desk pretty much all day at work so it's not like the shoes were getting a lot of ware. I wasn't lifting furniture or bricks or anything. Anyway, I got up from my desk to go the the fax machine and I heard a crack. Was it my back? My legs? Am I aging rapidly and my bones can no longer hold me up. I mean it can't be the heel of my brand new shoes that I just bought the day before. Anything but that. Unfortunately yes it was the damn heel. I walked barefoot to my car, luckily had a pair of flats in the trunk and furiously drove to Zara. They tried giving me a hard time because I didn't have a receipt and the shoes were now "worn" but I was so beyond furious, they knew I wasn't playing as I stuck my heels in the managers face and said in the scariest voice possible "fix this now". They gave me a brand new pair after what seemed like hours of searching for it in the back stock room and I was gone. Gone forever I thought, promising myself I would have nothing to do with this company ever again. But that's where I was wrong... Rewind a few days later. I wore my second pair of orange Zara pumps to the promenade to meet my then boyfriend for lunch at the little cute Greek place. I parked my car, and started proudly walking in my very new and cute Zara pumps. I walked to the Greek place and right before I entered I heard a crack. Wtf?!?!?! Can't be. The first pair might have been defective, but this cannot be happening. I embarrassingly entered the restaurant and instead of meeting my boyfriend with a smile on my face I told him on the verge of tears and about to murder the whole Zara store that we must go there immediately or I will lose it. Angry, hungry and barefoot yet again (déjàvu for sure) I marched to Zara (luckily Greek spot is right next to it) so I wasn't bare footing it that far, (but still embarrassing as all heck) but this time I was smarter and got my money back. You ain't gonna fool me again and have a 3rd paid break on me. One time of heel breaking on first time wear might be a defective shoes??? But twice?!?! Shame shame shame. And by the way I'm 5ft tall and 100 pounds so ummm it's not like I put a lot of weight on the heels. Do they make these high heels for toddlers? Because it seems like that's all the weight height ratio those heels could have handled. I did have my then boyfriend go to my car and get the same pair of flats that saved me the first time, and marched on out of there vowing never to be back again....till today...so what happened? Not sure exactly. I still will never buy their shoes, no matter how much they appeal to me, but they do have good blazers, and considering I work in a professional environment I do need me some good fitting ones and these do fit the criteria. Deducting a star for Zara being out of garment bags at 11:00am...how does that happen? So I had to carry my blazer on a hanger while balancing other bags. The girl there tried stuffing it in a paper bag and stopped once I gave her a dirty look and told her I don't want to buy a wrinkled blazer. Good ol Banana Republic did come to the rescue though and were nice enough to give me a garment bag and put my new blazer into it since they all know me and I practically live there (at BR). God bless Banana Republic, but this is a Zara review so I'll stop there. read more

Lacking customer service and product integrity; check-out lines were intolerable, and with an unkind, untrained staff... This was a recipe for a stressful shopping experience. You would think that clothes shopping is simple, fun, effortless, and satisfying; well...this Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade location will make you think otherwise. Bring your patience and thick-skin. This experience left me knowing ZARA does not stand behind their stores' staff-training nor their product! I bought multiple items at the store and of course brought it all to try-on at home. My daughter loved her clothes so I cut-off all the tags (that cut into her skin; you know the ones that says "cut-here"), that was on a Monday. On Thursday, that same week, she decided to wear one of the tops. When she put it on, the strap on one side fell off! The seam on the strap was not sewn properly and the thread holding it unraveled. It should have been a simple exchange for the same item. I had the receipt, it's only been 3 days since it was bought, I had a brand new, unworn item. I was not trying to exchange it for anything different nor a different size/color/style, just the same product just not a defective one. I purchased a lot of clothes that day for my son, my daughter, and myself; and this was 1 item (it shouldn't matter, but it was the least expensive one). I waited in line for 55 mins.; and after one customer check-out after another, I saw how rude they are with each and every customer. When it was my turn, I got a very rude "NO EXCHANGE ALLOWED BECAUSE OF A MISSING SIDE TAG" (the Zara main tag was intact) and I couldn't convince the manager to stand behind their brand! I live walking distance from this store but convenience is not worth the horrible treatment you'll get from this staff over their own DEFECTIVE product! read more

My first Zara experience was in Hong Kong actually, about 5 years ago. When I walked in not knowing what to expect, I was surprised by the quality of materials, the relative modern style fashions and the affordable price point. I ended up spending 2 hours there and haven't stopped going eversince. I shopped so much I had to ship 2 boxes back to the states. It's a good thing I did because although we have Zara here, the styles are noticeably different. Their locations in Asia reflect more European style fashions. If you're lucky you can find something similar. But I do think Zara caters & customizes to every continent based on their customers. Nevertheless, this location is still my favorite place to visit. You're still able to find some unique fashions with bold colors, good quality materials at affordable prices. The downside however as I find with most Zara stores in US, is the sizes are limited. Case in point, most of the stores carry only medium and large. It is rare that I find anything small and when I do....I buy two of each. Overall Zara is still one of the best places to shop for daily office wear for both men and women. The styles are unique, simple and modern. By the way, if you happen to go to Hong Kong, stop by Zara and you'll see what I'm talking about. And if you happen to visit Indonesia, make sure to visit one of their stores as well. It is definitely a unique experience and plan to make room in your luggage. read more

Really annoyed with the bad customer service here. Not a single smile on an employee's face, even when I approach for a question. I went in looking to exchange a dress I had bought online for a smaller size. I had called in advanced and had found out that they had the size I needed in stock. When I approached an employee with my situation, she less than enthusiastically called inventory, found out that they had the size I needed, and told me that someone would come down with my XS so I could just wait at the bottom of the escalator. I waited about 15 minutes until I looked for the same employee, but she'd disappeared. I approached a different worker who called inventory again. She then told me that nobody had put in a request for the dress and that she would do so now. ?????? What was that first employee even doing?? So after waiting another 10 minutes, an employee came down with the dress. It fit. Yay. I waited in line to go through the exchange process. When I finally get to the register, the first employee who "helped" me rings me up. She then tells me she can't exchange items for me so I'd have to return my dress online and purchase the smaller size. Uh... what? 1. That's not what the site says; 2. That's a lot more work; and 3. You mean I have to spend another $70 on my card while waiting 10-15 days for my return to process? THEN, seconds before I leave, an employee who was nearby stops her and says, oh wait, you CAN make exchanges for the EXACT SAME ARTICLE OF CLOTHING? What a surprise! All in all terrible experience with a bunch of snooty employees. Definitely sticking to shopping online. read more

WOW. Awful "service" if you want to call it that. Let me caveat this review by saying that I worked in retail in high school and college, and have had plenty of years in customer-facing roles. I understand what the people who work in stores go through every day, but I also have expectations about how a customer should be treated, having been on the inside. I was in Zara tonight with a friend. He and I came in well before closing. After looking at men's clothes for him, we went back down to the first floor... I was looking at something on a rack and turned to look at another rack, and a girl came up to me and said, "Ma'am, we are closed, you can't look further back." There were approximately 10 other customers in there, including one trying on clothes not more than 10 feet from me. It was literally just the strike of 10 (their closing time). Typically, I have seen stores let the customers finish browsing/purchasing before asking them to leave. It's not clear to me why my time was up and no one else's was, but I guess I won't be going back there to find out. RUDE RUDE RUDE. read more

I don't usually review retail, especially chains. I love Zara's clothes and they can have some killer sales around. This location in particular I have qualms with. Its very hot and the two fans at the entrance aren't sufficient, which is just the case sometimes, but my largest issue comes with the customer service. The customer service isn't very attentive even when I was the only one in the store with an order just to pick up (lots of long lines usually) and not very friendly. Modern sleek fashion for men + women that rotates quite frequently. Higher prices than H&M but the clothing will last you longer too. Check their sales racks for great bargains and check them again. Like I said, they rotate their stock often. I wish there was one closer to home but Vancouver is the closest... then again, with the cool clothes, it might be best! read more

I was accompanying a friend of my who was purchasing a jacket at the Zara store in the Santa Monica Promenade. We waited in line about 15 minutes and when it was our turn the cashier decided that it was time to tidy up behind the desk despite there being about 10 people in line behind us. She never acknowledged us while we stood there after her last customer left and then proceeded to move stuff around, arrange hangers on a rack and other miscellaneous things. She finally announced "next" without even making eye contact. The young woman never made eye contact with us during the entire transaction. It was amazing and really beyond belief. She clearly didn't demonstrated that she cared even slightly, or respected us as a customer or showed any visible signs to courtesy to us. I finally commented about the lack of eye contact from her to my friend as the cashier attempted to hand the bagged purchase to us. When my friend asked for her receipt she rolled her eyes, again without even making eye contact with us, and held it off to the side to allow it to be grasped from her. We were so shocked by the treatment that we asked to speak to the manager as we walked out of the store. The manager at first apologized in what appeared to be an insincere manner and thanked us to letting her know and walked away. No level of concern was apparent. Don't expect to be treated with any degree of respect or appreciation as a customer. read more

Absolutely terrible service. My standards for Zara are already quite low but I have to say this is the worst experience I've had with Zara so far. I walked up after being practically screamed at to come to the register. When I got to the register I greeted the cashier and informed her I would like to make a return. She cut me off mid-sentence and said "yes" - no greeting or anything. I was taken aback and slowly put the item I wanted to return on the counter. She immediately snatched the item off the counter and began the process. There was an issue with the card/device I used (Apple Pay), none of which was her fault but she did not inform me on how I can fix it or any next steps to take. Even worse, a manager came to help and was somehow even more rude than the initial cashier. When the interaction came to an end, I thanked her for her help and stood there waiting for a response to which she said nothing and stared at me. read more
