They have a good selection here but some of the sale goods they put on the floor are damaged, stained or just dirty. When I pointed some out to the SA, they said they just put everything out there when it's on sale (hoping someone will buy it?). Not all Zara locations are created equal. This is one of the bigger locations, along with the one at The Grove. Both locations are two-stories. The one at the Topanga Mall is one level, so quite smaller. The store layout is nice and the employee friendliness is average. read more

This Zara hires the WORST and RUDEST employees ever! The short Mexican girl keeps on following me around the shop to tell me "we're closing in 5 mins" while I was in rush to look for an item to exchange the size only! Then 2 minutes later she followed me downstairs stairs to tell me "you have to leave we're closing " like wtf!!! you see me looking in a hurry and I KNOW WTF I'M HERE FOR! you don't have to follow and it's not even 5 mins yet! I will not go back to that location ever even though it's the closest to where I live, Also it will make me think twice before heading to any Zara location as it seems they don't care to kind of treatment their customers get. I never knew about zara up until my girlfriend introduced me to it. Think H & M but slightly better. This particular location is pretty large, with three floors that include clothing for both women and men, and a children's section. If you're looking for something stylish, chic, trendy, and casual then you have to look through this store. Personally, my favorite location is the Pasadena store; which is smaller and condensed but is organized well and always seems to have that outfit you're in need of. read more

I went in on a Sunday expecting it to be busy since this is downtown Santa Monica and it is a weekend, but was pleasantly surprised - there were very few shoppers in the store and the line for the registers was only 5 - 7 people long. I saw about 3 staff members straightening the store on various levels and not in any rush. Lol, then I tried to actually try on a couple dresses. Hardly any shoppers, staff members aplenty, and no dressing room access! One of the staff members told me apologetically that they did not have the dressing rooms open that day. What on earth? This is my call out to any other company that knows how to make clothing appropriate for women over 25 - please TAKE MY MONEY! The bar is so low, I would be tripping over myself to give it to you. read more

Rudest staff and manager I have ever come across in my 20 years of working customer service. I am making a call to the corporate office as I am so appalled. I knew the service was terrible as I have been in the store before and the employees have little to no knowledge about the merchandise in the store, I also went to pick up an online order on the day it said it had arrived in the store and it wasn't there. I came all the way from Malibu. Despite this I came in to find something to wear to a charity event in a few days and headed to the fitting rooms with an arm full of dresses. There was a pushed to the side roped off area that said fitting room closed, but As there was at least a 5 foot gap were anyone could clearly walk-through even three people side-by-side I assumed they were open I went in and started trying on the clothes. The roped off area was very clearly pushed to the side at least 5 feet. As I was halfway undressed someone came to the outside of the fitting room and yelled abruptly is someone in there I said yes she said fitting rooms are closed you need to get out dairy rudely. I said OK just give me a minute to get dressed, the petition was pushed to the side so I assumed they were open sorry. She then argued with me saying no it was fully pulled across they're closed there's a sign I said give me a second to get dressed and walked out again as I went to walk out she had pulled the petition all the way across the opening so I had to move it to get out. I then asked a gentleman on the floor if he knew where a manager was he said I'm the manager I proceeded to tell him what happened and he argued with me and told me it was pulled all the way across when he was nowhere near the area at all he looked at me and told me that's just not the way things are done here ma'am. I have never felt more embarrassed and basically being called a liar to my face he told me that it was pulled all the way across when there was at least room for three people to walk through of a 5 foot gap when I walked through. Trust me I would never open a fitting room and go in for fear of being yelled at told off or kicked out, not some thing I would do on a regular basis! This is totally unacceptable and something needs to be done about the stuff or they need to be replaced I don't know whether it's this strip in general but the customer service in this area seems to be severely lacking. Once again I would avoid this Sara at all costs. There was also piles of clothing which were very clearly one and re-tagged as you could see where on the satin dresses and there was pools in a lot of the knitted sweat wear. Completely blown away and will be writing a formal complaint. I can see by the rest of the reviews on this page that clearly this is not and up to par Zara. Definitely a lot more selections than the Pasadena location. Pretty good layout too, giving plenty of space for patrons to have a good shopping experience. I have to knock a star off for: -- average customer service -- limited inventory. The dress I want there was only one left -- average quality. The seams are already quite loose on the dress I want... J Crew and FCUK has better quality with similar price. Their quality is approaching Forever 21 but is not as cheap. Oh well... if I find a particular style I absolutely love, i will still buy from Zara, but they are definitely losing the status of one of my go-to place for wardrobe shopping. read more

I never thought I'd write a review, I mean novel... for a big chain retail store, but Zara of 3rd Street you win the award for 'Worst Customer Service and Mgmt' in all my retail shopping experiences. I thought I was going to have a stroke in the store. I wanted to make a single item return :( Line was long when I walked in with just one cashier working on the main floor. Whatever that's fine. Then a rep tells us that there's another cashier on the second floor and there's no wait. Of course half of us rush upstairs and the cashier upstairs, well, meet real life Dash. The line downstairs started to look more appealing so I went back downstairs. I'm the last person in line and then I'm told by the cashier that I need to go to the lowest floor for returns or exchanges. *Face palm* I go downstairs and I make eye contact with the cashier who I thought was signaling for me to go to the counter and just as I'm about to walk up a customer who had a mountain of clothes trying to decide what/what not to buy makes sure she's going up first. I'm still like whatever at this point. But then I find out she has about 30 items to check out (I'm not even exaggerating). There's a sign displayed in front of the cashier that clearly states "Returns and Exchanges Only At This Cashier." I waited for 23 minutes and as soon as I get to the counter, the cashier doesn't smile, doesn't say I'm sorry for the wait so I make a comment and say "there's a sign that says returns and exchanges only". He tells me "well if there are no customers we can't turn them away". I was like wait what am I then? I was clearly there before she approached the counter... For the first time in retail shopping history I asked to speak to a manager. I told Jose I didn't appreciate having been directed multiple times to come to a supposedly "Return & Exchange" counter only to have to wait over 20 minutes for a customer to finish a purchase. The words "I'm sorry" came out of Jose's mouth, but it felt more like a "cry me a river you had to wait" kind-of-sorry. It certainly felt like what I was communicating to him had little to no value. I get it, I probably make up .00000001% of your total revenue. Jose basically told me that it's not his decision; they've had meetings and customers complained about people making lengthy returns clogging the checkout process. I was like okay so you "solved" the problem by creating another problem. Now you're clogging your exchanges and returns process? Just what is a manager's role at Zara? Why even create a sign if it's not your intention to follow it. I agree that you shouldn't turn away a customer who wants to check out at the counter if there's no one waiting but I was there before she approached the counter. Not only that, be quick on your feet. It's obviously going to be a lengthy checkout with the amount of clothes she has so what do you do? You see a customer with a return. You can either 1) tell this purchasing customer (which by the way also receives 1 star -_- ) that you're sorry but purchases need to be made upstairs 2) tell this purchasing customer that there's a returning customer waiting, is it okay if he quickly processes the return first? 3) process the purchasing customer first With option 1 - This customer would go upstairs, see that she has to wait, be upset herself and leave the store without purchasing any items. Zara you've lost out on her $800 purchase and the loyalty of a potentially high paying customer. With option 2 - This customer would probably be annoyed but still proceed with her purchase. I would have been appreciative or at the least indifferent with the whole experience and continued to be a Zara customer. With option 3 - You have managed to piss me off. If your employees can't make the right judgement calls and are more detrimental to your brand then they are an asset, you should reconsider how you manage your retail operations. At baseline, customers, paying or returning, should be indifferent from when they walk in to when they walk out. If a customer leaves happier than when they first walked in then A+ you've hired or trained the right people to handle your store floors. Currently your floor staff is on the other end of the spectrum. Just read through all the other reviews of customer service complaints. At this point it would probably be more cost effective to replace them with automated kiosks. read more

Both employee and the manager were inflexible. This will be my last time shopping at Zara. Spent over 200$ last week on clothing and accidentally lost my receipt the same night. Simply wanted to exchange the items for other items and/or get store credit but it wasn't allowed as apparently their policy has changed. I didn't know this. The ONLY option I was given is exchanging the item for a different size; the item that I do not want. Totally unacceptable. The employee who rang me up at Century City mall did not inform of this "new policy", as she rang me up and saw that I had purchased two of the same items. Poor customer service on her park as well. Again, terrible customer service and zero regard for their customer in any way. These type of businesses who already have issues of mistreating their employees are also now mistreating their customers. read more

Yelp won't let me get be NO stars. Mandatory 1 star to post review...shame on yelp! Zara gets negative 10 stars!!!! Went to return an item at Zara Santa Monica on 5/2/17 around noon. Returns were done at the lower level cashier stand. There was 4 of us in waiting in line. The guy being helped had a TONS of returns and the wait time grew. When another customer in the return line spoke to the girl at the other register the grim explained she wasn't a cashier and didn't know how to use the register. Then another worker (male) came to the the 3rd register abs clearly saw the long line and did NOTHING! Not once did she or the cashier completing the return teams I finally went up to the employee who said she wasn't a cashier and requested a manager. When the manager came down she said something under her breath she and the male worker just went upstairs without communicating with us in line. Now it's been 30 mins I'm waiting in line. Finally after another 5 minutes the cashier stated returns can be completed upstairs where they have 2 cashiers available. Zara doesn't seem to understand the meaning of customs service or any service of any kind. This will be the LAST time I shop at ZARA, I'll buy where my money is appreciated and shoppers are acknowledged and valued as customers. The WORST customer service!!!! NO service. read more

This is not the best location. In fact, having visited Zara in multiple cites in the US and Europe, I can confidently say this is one of the worst. Still, Zara has some great items at excellent prices. This is why I am willing to it give three stars. (2 1/2 would be more appropriate) The long lines at check out are ridiculous. On my last visit, one cashier was moving so slow it had to be deliberate. She yelled out, "there is a cashier downstairs!!" (Quite loudly and with an irritated tone). As there were two people in front of me and 10 behind me, I decided to stay in line. Then, the cashier started moving even more slowly. Bizarrely slowly. Each step (finding the tag, picking up the scanner, scanning the item, placing the scanner down, etc.) was done with psychotic like precision. Admittedly, that was my worst visit. However, do not have high expectations. Long lines and unhappy, burnt out employees are then norm. read more

You need to mentally prepare yourself in order to shop at this location. They hit all the marks: Terrible customer service? Check. Rude and unfriendly employees? Check. Long and slow-moving lines? Check. Understaffed at all times? Check. I dread coming here but unfortunately it's the only store that's close to me. They recently started this new trend of making customers go to the downstairs registers for returns/exchanges and upstairs register only for purchases. This is to "distribute the customer flow" due to air conditioning repairs (the AC has been broken here forever, I don't remember a time when it wasn't hot in here). So what's the result of this genius idea? 10 customers at the "returns" register with ONE cashier. On a Monday. This is their trend at any register though. Who manages this store? It's been years I'm coming here and it's always understaffed with grumpy employees. Please get it together. If you have other options as a consumer, do not visit this location. read more

I have always shopped in Zara, growing up in Spain, so this afternoon I was happy to take my teenage son shopping with me to the Promenade location. I got him some nice clothes for his graduation. But the experience turned very sour in the end. My son wanted to wear the shirt I had just bought for him. So I innocently thought that one of the cashiers would be nice to help me cut the label since it is impossible to do without scissors. So I approached a female cashier, asked her politely. To my surprise, she just looked at me, put one of those poker faces, and proceeded to keep doing her work, completely ignoring me, as if I didn't exist, as if she wanted to say, I am not going to acknowledge that you asked for my help. I couldn't believe she was acting so rude. In front of my son, who was watching how a 20 something year old girl was disrespecting her mother for no reason. I then approached a male cashier, who was extremely polite and nice and had no problem helping me with the label. When I was leaving, I casually walked by the unfriendly female cashier who had blatantly ignored me, and said to her sarcastically, "Thank you very much for your help". Then she replied "You are welcome". I really couldn't take her arrogance. I went to the supervisor in charge, a man with glasses, who was even worse than the girl, as he just proceeded to defend the girl's attitude and said I should have not asked her for help in the first place. I couldn't believe that. Please Zara, CHOOSE YOUR STAFF MORE WISELY. HIRE FRIENDLY CASHIERS WITH GOOD MANNERS, AND TRAIN YOUR SUPERVISORS TO LISTEN TO CUSTOMERS. 2015 YELP 100 CHALLENGE - 008/100 This Zara is just ok. tbh, I haven't really found a Zara that I've really liked. I love their clothes seen on other people and online, but whenever I walk into their stores I feel like I can never find what I am looking for. This location is on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. It is in the second stretch of the mall. It's surprisingly 3 floors, with the main level being on the second floor. The third floor is pretty small and mostly mens' clothing, and the first floor includes Zara Kids. I feel like this location didn't really have that many items...like nothing looked interesting. For some reason the line to pay is always long too...which is annoying. The cashiers DO work very quickly, which is great, but the line still somehow always ends up being very long! Overall...not one of my favorite Zara locations. Seems like a 3 story location would be awesome, but this one unfortunately isn't. read more

Saw the first floor only and wasn't intrigued. The clothes seem a bit dated and on the conservative side. And I hear great things about this place for the gals and the guys. Jennifer S. and I quickly lost interest and left. To be fair, I shoulda went upstairs to scope it out but I really wasn't impressed with what I saw on the first floor. 7-17-07 Upgraded from two to four stars. I went back and saw a whole bunch of cute stuff. The clothes are well made, with great fabrics. The lines are unusual, such as 60's looking cropped jackets with three quarter sleeves and puffy sleeve shirts with a cool belt. I'm into good fabrics, and I was quite pleased with the selection here. The store was closing, so we couldn't try anything on. So, I brought all eight items and will be returning 4 to 6 pieces if I dont' find the correct sizes. Cute stuff, unusual patterns, take a look around. 7-21-07 Zara has sales twice a year only, starting in June in the summer and in December in the winter. The sales items were all moved downstairs to the the lower lower. Men's wear is upstairs on the 3rd floor. I got a great linen suit, with a fully lined blazer for $59! Returns are accepted within 30 days with the receipt for cash or store credit. read more

Wandered into this store and found a shirt I liked.....whoa, $60?! In Europe, Zara is very cheap.....this same shirt would cost no more than $10-$15 in Barcelona Spain....but not in America! Dammit....I couldn't resist and bought the shirt anyway. The store is not as large as the ones in Europe, but it has a decent selection of clothes. The clothes are European cut, which means you have to be rail thin for most of their styles.....I was lucky to find a shirt for stocky guys like me (aka big)....which is why I bought it. I generally like Zara but this location is a mess. It's not laid out well and finding clothes is a mess. The air conditioning had also been broken for months so there is always a fan at the back. I usually just buy stuff online and have it shipped and just use this store for returns. One of the ladies completely cut me off while I was walking and I almost tripped into one of their racks of overpriced clothing. She didn't even glance back and excuse her rude-ass. I bought a pair of shoes here for $110 earlier this summer. I didn't get the chance to wear them until a bit ago (thats what happens when you have wayyyy too many shoes.) I wore them for about 20 minutes and they promptly fell apart. FELL APART. LITERALLY. I brought them back to the store to air my complaints, but wasn't shown too much sympathy since it had been more than 30 days. That wasn't the point I was trying to make, though- it was that I had only worn them for 20 minutes!!! Blegh. I was then told to "glue them back together or something," which made me want to throw my (broken) shoes at her. I used to walk right by Zara whenever I saw it. Yes, I'm guilty of being prejudice. It just looks like such a fancy store and I just kind of expected it to be super expensive and WAY out of my budget. And then... the best thing ever happened. I was at a mall in Mexico City with my cousins and we walked into Zara. At first I just stood back and watched as they shopped and then I picked up an adorable shirt, looked at the price and thought... NO FREAKIN WAY!!! (well, actually I was in Mexico so what I really thought was "No chinges!!!") The prices were written in Mexican pesos and American dollars and I couldn't believe how cheap that shirt was, what with the quality being so high and all. I then started picking things up left and right and it's been a love affair ever since. Now that I'm teaching this place is my absolute favorite place to buy professional clothing. I knew nothing of Zara until I went to Greece and everyone - EVERYONE - in Athens was walking around carrying a little blue bag from ZARA. On a whim we went inside and were blown away by the styles and fit of the clothes. My wife is a normal, fit woman with hips and broad shoulders and no implants. Therefore she has an impossible time finding clothing from many stores that actually fit. Not at Zara. Their models skew towards a more European shape than a west coast model, and therefore Zara isn't for every woman. But if you've been annoyed at most of the fashionable stores because you feel somehow misshappen, give Zara a try. The same goes for menswear. I have no need to wear baggy anything. I look best when I wear something that fits. Because of genes and marathon running I have an athletic, long upper torso and average length but muscular legs. To make matters worse, I despise logos on my clothing and I like things to fit. I dress my age and have no need to compete with the myspace crowd. They're fucking idiots, anyway. Nothing more pathetic than thirty year old men wearing Enyce pants and Sean John baggy Polo shirts. And they wonder why they're still single hanging out at Hooters with their backwards baseball caps. Zara is my solution. Their shirts are cut to an athletic fit and their pants are actually pants, not just dresses stitched in the center. Best of all, Zara is incredibly well priced. Much better than other chains like Banana Republic or Anthropologie. read more

Horrible experience today. I walked into the store and saw an amazing sale section, where I tried on a couple of things and fell in love with some black pants. I go to the cash register to pay and they tell me they are not allowed to sell me the pants because they are not in their inventory and there's no way to purchase them... Really? That is not my problem, their Manager Sarah, should have taken care of that. I have worked retail before (BCBG) and that would have never happened there. If the store makes a mistake they must figure it out, and work around the customer, not blow them off pretty much saying too bad, sorry. Zara's style is hit or miss with me. Sometimes, it's too 80s, Euro or ugly. But occasionally, I find a great item. Like my plaid coat with the ruffled bottom or my long-lusted pair of gray (faux) suede booties. You know when you have shopping quests and it takes you months to be able to complete? Sometimes, you can't even complete them? Well, it took me about 6 weeks to find the perfect pair. It was the last stop of my consumerism yesterday and I only stopped in to show my best friend the kids' clothes (she vetoed my choice of kelly green pants for her daughter- damn, guess who's getting 'em for Xmas from Auntie Minty?). But as we were coming down the escalator, she spotted the booties and being the good best friend she is, actively encouraged me to buy a pair of shoes I'd probably wear a few times but not quite enough to justify its price of $59.99 (cheap, right??). To the apathetic, sulky female employee with the multi-colored dredlocks; I could have gotten better service by summoning a random child in the store and asking for assistance. First of all, I drove to Santa Monica from Silverlake for an item that you were "holding" for me. The minute you spoke when we arrived, there was no mistaking it was you on the phone. This transaction plan couldn't have been more simple; you had a reference #, a description, and a confirmation (by you) that it was there and being held behind you at your register. The attitude you had as soon as I walked up to your register was rude, lethargic, and made me want to be literally anywhere else but in your store. Thank you for acting like the conversation never happened, giving up after searching for my item for .7 seconds, and thank you for having to be asked multiple times by the male employee (or manager?) next to you, to get off your ass and find the item that you promised would be there when we drove nearly 20 miles. You completely lied, wasted our time, and had nothing to say about it, but "uhhh, heh". I am unsure if you were mixing pills, have a brain injury, were just born apathetic, or all three, but you absolutely need to be working somewhere else, and maybe somewhere that can afford to house a defibrillator when a customer needs your assistance. While this is not a particularly big Zara, it's big enough. There was a good amount of the latest collection, as well as a nicely-sized sale collection. There were a lot of sale shoes in particular, which I've found to be pretty rare at Zara. Usually, most sizes of sale shoes sell out and only the very large or very small are left. There's not much else to say, except that the member of the staff who assisted me was friendly. read more

Zara is one of my FAVORITE stores to shop at. But this Zara location in particular is probably the WORST I've been to! I came in on a Tuesday afternoon & a bunch of things were on sale. I was excited for a little bit, until I started WALKING though the clothes. Clothes on the floor... A safety hazard. The entire women's floor was so messy and disorganized... And again, this is on a TUESDAY. The fitting room lady didn't acknowledge me, didn't check the clothes I was bringing in to the fitting room. There was a long line for the cashier. Only 3 employees at the register ringing up customers. I was already waiting in line for a good 15-20 min until one of the employees told us that the cash register upstairs in the men's section had "shorter lines". So some of us went upstairs. Upstairs, there was only 1 employee at the register and 10 of us in line. Zara, you need to organize your system better. And all of the employees look like they are not happy to work there, especially the lady at the cash register upstairs.. She was rude and need to have some polite manners toward customers. Zara...I freaking hate that place. Why you ask? Well, you go in expecting just to browse and you see great menswear. I think to myself, "Ha! This i probably way to much" but wait...I flip the tag over and I've over-estimated. Most of the clothing for men is at a really reasonable price when you think of the style and the cut. It's hard for me to not walk out of there with something (especially jackets!). Be warned though...the sizes run one size smaller and if you have an athletic build it might be hard fitting the sizing. And this is why I hate Zara. Oh...and they have great women's wear. read more
