You seat yourself. Fun decor! The 1st table I sat myself at had food crumbs on the table & seat, but was setup with a fresh table setting. The next table, booth & seats were also dirty, so I asked my server to clean it. I ordered the Apple Malt (no alcoholic beverages available) and noticed that my silverware was dirty.EWW! I asked for new silverware and decided to overlook these issues as there are lots of great reviews about this place. The apple malt is sweet with an interesting after taste. (Afraid to drink out of the restaurant's glass, I drank it out of the bottle) I ordered the Falafel Platter with House salad & hummus. The salad & hummus tasted great! I tried to force myself to eat the falafel, but they were hard and not tasty at all! I asked the server if I could exchange them for a little more salad & hummus. He went to the kitchen & came back to tell me no. I then asked for the manager, who was happy to exchange the Falafel for more salad & hummus. Thank you for your customer service! Omg. I searched "Halal" on Google on my way home, and stumbled upon this gem!! I had a late lunch here last week on Friday, and it was some of the most delicious Halal food I've ever had. The Greek salad was slightly tangy, fresh, and delicious. The rice was on point. I was served plenty of chicken, and the Mediterranean style hummus was yummy and served in a cute metal gravy cup thing. I will be back as soon as I get a chance! Who are they paying to write these reviews. The samosa, which cost 5.95 were tiny, dry and bland. (See the pictures) the chicken kabobs were horrible, mine where raw and my husbands were overdone. The Hummus Trio sampler was last weeks and it is awesome. The gyro's wraps have to be the best in Houston. The meat is tender, perfectly seasoned and amazing. No wild taste here. Try the creamy garlic sauce. You will want to take a gallon of it home with you. Having a small dinner party at home? Their take home menu has some fantastic choices. The Ummah Grill Platter feeds five people and makes for a very different choice. We served it at a small shower and it was a huge hit. The restaurant is small to average size, well decorated with six person booths on one side and tables that can be strung together for bigger parties. When we got to Zaras, we were greeted curtly and asked to choose our own table. The waters arrived fairly quickly and the staff ensured that we weren't waiting long to order our apps and entrees. We ordered samosas, two beef and two chicken. Both were well seasoned and delecious. We then received our order for the Kabab platter for two along with moussaka and pita bread. The food was delicious. The moussaka and the beef kababs were out of the world. We practically licked food off the plate. We asked for the check and it arrived promptly but before we paid off, one of the staff greeted us and enquired if we ordered any dessert. Upon learning that we hadn't planned on, he persuaded us to coconut baklava. We ended up getting suckered into it and boy was it good! TL;DR: we wanted to eat everything twice! While we were in the Spring area celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday, my wife and her sister's family wanted to try someplace different that was good! I have learned to rely on YELP for recommendations so after doing a quick search on the Spring & Woodlands area this place popped up with over 100 reviews..most of them 5 star! We quickly made a decision after reading a couple of the reviews to give this place a try and I'm glad we did! If you're in the mood for Mediterranean cuisine and something light and good and are in this part of town, this is the place to go! A small quaint place located in a strip center, the interior was nicely appointed and we were greeted pleasantly by the staff and educated about some of the menu offerings. One of the best deals in my opinion is the Ummah Grill Platter (which feeds 5)..this is 2 skewers of kefta kabob, beef kobideh and chicken shish kabobs, a skewer of beef shish kabob and lamb shish kabob served along with a large Greek Salad, basmati rice, hummus, baba ghanoush with a homemade garlic sauce and warm pita breads. This is definitely a lot of food and will easily feed a family of five as is advertised! When the food came out everything tasted very good and fresh and we were all pleasantly surprised at how good it was! I also tried the Zara Iced Tea which really complimented the meal well; with a hint of rose water, lemon and other flavors it was really suttle and a nice addition to the whole experience! Refills too! The Greek salad was really good and the dressing complimented the salad very well! I loved the lamb kabobs and the falafel that we ordered was also very good! As an appetizer we had the stuffed grape leaves which were served with a tzatziki dip that was soooo good! And later as we were wrapping up this wonderful lunch experience, the owner, Mohammed came out and introduced himself to us...the owner did all the cooking and told me his place had been open about a year and I mentioned that I found out about his place through YELP! My wife mentioned that we were celebrating her mom's birthday and he was so nice and brought us a complimentary cheesecake type dessert with a candle on top! We sang Happy Birthday to my mother-in-law along with some of the other restaurant patrons and capped off a really nice afternoon! All in all I would say that the owner and his staff work hard at providing a really nice dining experience at a reasonable cost and that everything was so fresh and good! The restaurant is very clean and well appointed and located not too far from I-45 on Rayford. You can bet that if I'm ever up in this area again and craving Mediterranean cuisine this will be the place to go! There was also a Dimassi's up in this area but I am so glad we came here instead.
