This is the best Chinese food in the Chambers County area. I always enjoy the atmosphere and the food is great.

I haven't had a bad experience with food or service here. I just hate that every time I come here, it feels like I'm walking into a Chinese household. The restaurant owner and operator basically lives here with her family. Their kids are obnoxiously loud and worst part is.... so are the parents whom are the owners of the establishment. They would do more business and they'd hire a baby sitter to watch kids at home. Long story short, Take Out! read more

Zen House is a great establishment - especially for the area. Every time I have gone the servers have been very friendly! Honestly one of my favorite chinese food places. The food is very good, they have a wide range of classic chinese favorites. (Really good for take out, too!) They also have really good specials and the food is SO filling! Great serving size. I would give them a zero if it were completely based on service. They're nice to you if you're not Chinese. I asked for two bowls and was questioned why I needed them. Every interaction with the waitress ended with her rolling her eyes at us. The green pepper beef was made with stew beef. The best part of the meal was the hot and sour soup. Good food and fast service, but I would only recommend getting your food to go here if at all. The place becomes a day care in the evenings, there are toys all over the place, two full tables are taken up with toys and school books, and the fact that an infant is cared for most of the day there raises some concerns with sanitation. read more

Zen house is not what it used to be since they got new owners. Price has not went up too much in the last couple of years, but the quality and quantity has went down. I have been disappointed the last couple of times I have went. Agree with Danny that you do feel like you are walking into someone's household with the mother yelling orders to cooks and wait staff and the children underfoot. We love this restaurant! The food is good, and you get lots of food for the amount you pay which is pretty cheap compared to the Chinese restaurants I have been to throughout the United States. The service is always great. I don't know why in the world everyone else on here complains about the two girls. I am assuming it is because most of the people haven't been outside of this area to other Chinese Restaurants. It is like this in places such as China Town in San Francisco or Honolulu. I am glad to see that she keeps her kids there with her instead of a daycare all day long. read more

We've always enjoyed going to the Zen House for Sunday lunch. We usually have the server take the soup order,return with our soup and take our entree order. Today, the waitress immediately came over after he left with our soup order and FIRMLY urged us to place our three entree orders. In the middle of enjoying our soup, one of our three entrees came out and sat on the table. 5-8 Minutes later the remaining entrees came out. The portions today were much smaller than usual. We completed our meal and asked for one take out tray. The waitress had a huge frown all over her face, but the server brought the tray to the table. After we paid the bill, my husband asked for a plastic bag to put the take out tray in and the waitress let out a deep, full body, disgruntled sigh. He paused out of shock that a merchant would actually do that in his face. We probably won't go back there again.
