Over time I relaxed, Chuck even noted my seeming tension after some discussion of Thai massage politics in the US and we settled into a nice conversation about how we both just don't really care to get overly involved in the politics but want to focus on good bodywork and education. The classes I took at the facility were wonderful and it being spring in Chicago the weather was great. The course was excellent, and really whet my appetite for what is possible through the blending of Thai Bodywork and Clinical Massage Techniques. However, what really blew my mind was how I felt after receiving 60 seconds of bodywork from Chuck (I was being used as a demo). He was demonstrating a spray and stretch technique on my right neck and shoulder. This area of my body had bothered me for as long as I can remember...flared up into headaches on a frequent basis (daily at it's worse, every other week at its best). It also would bother me to the point that I'd toss and turn frequently at night, which made it hard to get a good nights sleep. I am a massage therapist, and have sought out lots of help for myself. I have done much self-massage and seen many other practitioners. But I can honestly say that nothing has been as effective as that 60 seconds from Chuck. I emerged on the other side of it with the muscle feeling softer and more pliable, multiple trigger points released, increased range of motion, improved posture, the list goes on and on. In the days after, not only did I not have any headaches, but there was no sign of a headache brewing. There was no tension!! I could sleep through the night! Really can't recommend Chuck and this type of work enough! I look forward to going back for a full session!!

Woke up this AM with a terrible neck pain and found Sarah on Yelp. I normally wouldn't look for a massage therapist in Evanston because I live in the city. But I was going to be headed that way for a meeting today and I have never found a great massage therapist in the city so I figured give Evanston a try. Luckily she had a slot in her schedule and fit me in same day. She is easy to talk to. Not too woo-woo. Down to earth, understands basic health and medicine that other massage therapists are sometimes clueless to. She is strong and goes deep without being a bull in a china shop - she is very smooth in her movements. Her office is clean, organized, and had a relaxed vibe. It was quiet too, which I really appreciate as many places I've gone to lately are really loud with thin walls. Plus, I love that it does not have smelly candles or potpourri. It was one of the best massages I've had in Chicago. I think she will be my go-to gal from now on when I'm needing to de-stress or have pain. Her office is located on the top floor of a building in Rogers Park with free street parking right in front. She asked me questions before the session began, provided me with water, and even had me choose the lotion or oil scent of my preference. She told me that I will be spending most of the time lying on my sides (because of my belly) and that she uses hot stones during the massages. I never experienced them before but it sounded good to me! Overall the massage was great & I left feeling relaxed. So relaxed I came back another 2 times during weeks 34 and 36! I'm looking forward to coming back to Karen post-pregnancy for a regular massage.

When I made a walk in appointment, I was introduced to Anna and Vivian. I was told by both ladies they accept walk-ins and scheduled appointments. I scheduled my massage for later in the week and looked forward to my session. I've made multiple visits to this chain and the massages they provide here are just as good as the Lincolnwood location, if not better. The Tui Na style of massage uses a firm amount of pressure. If you're not accustomed to this style, you may want to tell your therapist to go easy on you. So far I've made two trips to this location and every massage I've received has been phenomenal. I have caught myself snoring multiple times during my sessions. I've realized if someone can push me to that level of relaxation, they've earned high marks in my book. Every time I leave, I feel relaxed and sedated. I'm guessing it's from the post massage high I get after releasing all tension/knots from my body. This chain has attractive pricing. It's roughly a dollar per minute which signals good value for a quality massage. I posted a review for the Lincolnwood location, and I'm assuming their setups are similar. The ambiance is informal given there are no private rooms for table or chair massages. Everything is all set up in one room. If your priority is solely about the ambiance; this might not be the place for you. Rather the focus here is the quality and decent cost of the massage. There is a bit of a language barrier so conversations are kept to a minimum but the staff understands some English to get by. Adjusting to the situation takes some getting used to. My last massage was a 75 minute table and post session, I was given a bottle of water. The parking situation is a little tough compared to the Lincolnwood facility. The Evanston Art of Health only has metered parking. Despite the minor inconvenience, this spot is closer to home so I plan to make this my regular stop.
