It's always fun to look around and buy a souvenir for myself or someone else. Something that took this place to the next level for me, was my most recent visit. My mom was looking at shirts and having trouble deciding between sizes. She asked one of the employees if she could try them on. The employee dropped what she was doing and took my mom downstairs to the employee bathroom so she could try her shirts on. The people who work at this shop have always been nice, but this took it to the next level. Definitely stop here!

Sure, Amazon has it too and all that but I figured it made a good excuse to come out to Freeport and get HP sauce and maybe a couple other things. Tea drinkers and jelly lovers will have quite a time here. The shop is quite small and very much a gift shop. A bit peculiar to have in Freeport, Maine, maybe... but nevertheless there were a lot of worthless trinkets that could have easily been purchased. But I limited myself to just three items. You'll find everything from t-shirts to books to syrup to soap, as well as my personal favorite, Christmas ornaments. Every vacation , I buy a Christmas ornament, and with so many booths in this market, I found several to choose from and left with a cute lobster ornament. The crafts here are unique and much better than what you'll find in the airport or some of the stores in nearby Portland. I'm glad we found it on our first day and I got my shopping knocked out early in our trip!

It's sort of like Etsy, but in a brick and mortar form. The Freeport Market is exactly the same concept where locals can rent space and display their items for sale. I forgot to mention all the items are "Maine Made" which I believe has to be requirement. I didn't speak with any staff so I can't speak to the customer service. You don't see them walking around much, but standing near the counter. The value for the items will vary as the renter sets the price for their items. Some look for a premium price on their items, other's look for a reasonable price understanding what the market says for those types of items. If you are looking for Maine made items and willing to pay a premium price on them, this store is for you, but you can typically get the items cheaper through their website or at a local craft fair.

Staff are, of course, so welcoming and friendly - with two of them even giving us dining recommendations. BTW, boat bags can be monogrammed in 2 hours. The whole place is HUGE, divided into separate buildings (outdoors/home/clothing/etc) so make sure you leave time. I was shocked to find the main building is open 24/7. Some things are ridiculously overpriced (Internet search!), and I willingly paid... because I wanted to. Many of the quality items, IYKYK, are completely worth it because you'll own them for life. I still own mocs from my uni days.

But looking at the prices ...even sales...was quite shocking. I wondered how anyone affords the clothing there. In the camp/hunting store those items were more reasonably priced for what you would get. The employees that were roaming the store did not engage any of the customers. No need for me to go back.
