This is a such a cute establishment. It is also a Bed and Breakfast but we have not visited for those accommodations. When we first came, they had just opened the ice cream shop. The family and I shared a flight and it was more ice cream that we could eat! Staff was very friendly. Plenty of parking and seating inside and out. At my next visit, they had the cafe up and running. They had really expanded on the menu since the last visit. But I settled with an iced mocha that I enjoyed and will definitely return to try more of the menu! read more

This place is wonderful! It's clean and quaint. The staff are very very friendly and accommodating, even offering us umbrellas to walk out to our cars in the rain!! The homemade ice cream though is top tier, it has that perfect creamy but crystally texture, and they have so many fun toppings. It's our second time here and I can't wait to come back. read more

The ice cream was amazing! My boyfriend and I went for the first time and didn't really know what to expect, but the server was extremely nice and helpful. He was also extremely patient with my indecisive self, choosing my flavors for their amazing flight. We were a little confused where to go in at first but once we did, it was beautiful, very clean, and honestly just a great vibe all around. Loved our downstairs King library room - super comfy bed and I enjoyed the nuetral farmhouse style decor. The included continential breakfast was a nice addition and though I didn't have time for more than coffee, I loved that real plates and silverware (not plastic/paper) were offered. The shared spaces (dining and living room) are also lovely and comfortable. We usually stay in a B&B In Freeport when in town and this might be my new go-to! read more

My wife and I had an incredible stay at the Orchard House & Cafe over this past weekend. We found the place after some extensive research in the area and decided that the drive to Freeport was worth the overall savings we'd get versus staying in Portland in the summer, which is rather expensive. We found the place very easily and it was absolutely charming. The best part? They have a self-check-in policy, one that I had never seen anywhere else before. A few days before your stay you get information sent via text message which includes a pin for the front door, and another for your room. This means that once you arrive, you can get yourself right to your room very easily and with no assistance and without having to go through any paperwork or anything else. It worked flawlessly and made everything absolutely painless. Our room was in what seemed like a former library, with a big cozy king bed, a large bathroom and a decent amount of space. The place is charming and the decor is absolutely on point. Modern and yet cozy. The breakfast buffet in the common area featured plenty of delicious options including cereals, hard boiled eggs, fruit, juice and milk, and a few other snacks. The place is quiet and we very much look forward to returning at some point in the future. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

I stayed at the inn for five days in August. I loved the hands-off approach. Bill is available around the clock but makes sure you have what you need so you don't need to call. But he is more than happy to help you with anything you need if you do call! I have stayed in inns where it felt awkward not to have a lot of small talk with the hosts. The place is lovely, with so many loving details. The breakfast does include store-bought items such as Raisin Bran but there are also hard-boiled eggs, creamy yogurt and fresh fruit. I cannot consume dairy so appreciated that there was almond milk provided as an option. I got downstairs around 8 am to eat in quiet. Not that breakfast was noisy. I am just not the most sociable person until about 9 am. Speaking of noise, there are quiet hours. A couple came in after quiet hours and talked pretty loudly until about 10 pm, but finally quieted down. In the course of running in to Bill the next day, I mentioned the couple. He let me know they had checked out but that I could have called him and he would have addressed it with them. I would highly-recommend the inn. Initially it was all booked when I tried to make a reservation. But I had a feeling I would get lucky if I kept trying and I did. I had a back-up reservation at a nearby chain hotel, but I am so glad I had the chance to stay at the inn. I would definitely return if my travels brought me back to Freeport. read more

This place is beyond charming and the inn keeper is amazing! This was hands-down the highlight of our trip, and I can say with confidence it will be our go-to place to stay in the future. First of all, it's gorgeous! It's the perfect combination of farmhouse and contemporary mixed together. It doesn't lack in character but also doesn't try to hard. Chip and Joanna have nothing on the Orchard House! There is so much attention to detail, both inside and outside, but it's not at all overwhelming. My husband described it as "authentic." It's so very charming. And the inn keeper is so kind! He was there to greet us when we pulled in and then later willing to give us an extensive tour. Our daughter go to play with the dogs, pat the chickens, and explore it all (although truth be told I may have enjoyed it even more!). The indoor decorations are perfect, the landscaping is beautiful, and there is even a hammock and outdoor sitting area. I cannot wait for the cafe to open. We got a sneak peek and it's gorgeous! There is the most charming little gift shop on site as well. The inn is just minutes from downtown Freeport but feels so secluded and private as well. The views are gorgeous. I swear I felt like I was on the set of a Hallmark movie. It's too good to be true. I'm telling you this place is the best! We loved everything about this place. I have no doubt it will book up quickly, so make your reservation early! read more

I absolutely loved my stay! So many old inns in Maine are musty and dark and dusty. The Orchard House Inn was none of those things. It is bright and fresh and delightful. The bed was comfy and warm and the decor perfect. In the morning a light fresh breakfast with yogurt and fruit and boiled eggs in a sunny dining room was a nice start to an adventurous pine paradise day. An easy whisk up to Wiscasset and down to Portland made it the perfect location for me. I met the owner's mother while there and she is lovely and has plans for retail nearby. Can't wait -- her style is impeccable and there were so many decor pieces in the Inn I wanted to buy to take home with me. The cafe plans sound exciting too. I can't wait to go back again and again. We were disappointed with our stay at the Orchard House. While the house has been renovated beautifully and the bed in the downstairs king suite was glorious, we did not care for the hands-off, self-service approach employed here. The check-in process is achieved with a door code provided ahead of time via text. There is no interaction with the host, Bill, unless you call him. He is attentive, and graciously agreed to chill a bottle of wine for us while we went to explore the area. When we returned, the wine was nicely chilled in our room; however, no wine glasses were provided. Other missing attention to detail was also disappointing: no information about local dining options or shopping, no temperature control or info about such. (The air conditioning came on early in the morning, freezing us out of the room before we were ready to leave.) Breakfast was barely passable. I do not recall seeing anywhere that only Continental would be provided. It consisted of limited choices of store-bought cereals and bakery items and blueberries and yogurt. Again, all self-service with no evidence of replenishment (unless you made a phone call, I presume). read more

Great bed and breakfast. Bill is a wonderful host and explained to us the history of the house when we visited. We stayed in the library room, which was apparently the old library of the previous owner. Aside from a weird portrait painting that watches you sleep, the decor was on point, and the entire experience felt very cozy. One thing to note is that the cafe is still under construction, and the breakfast is only continental, so you'll only be getting coffee and juice and some donuts and cereal. If you want hot food, you'll have to travel, but Bill recommended some great local places for seafood. Overall, great stay, and I'm definitely looking forward to returning once everything is completed! read more

What a lovely place this inn was. It's set back on an open piece of land surrounded by a fence of trees. We showed up close to 7:30 after along drive and we pulled up, we were greeted by the owner. He was friendly and welcomed us to head right to our rooms which we were happy to get right to since we were quite tired. The inn is very charming and beautifully decorated with neutral colors and subtle elegant touches throughout. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the rooms quite spacious. We look forward to returning and can't wait to see what he does with the cafe opening in 2018. read more
