Handy when I needed help with a house project. Stereotypical old guy who knows what he's talking about patiently talked me through it. Exactly what I needed, and at the big boxes you might get slightly lower prices but you're taking your chances with advice (not that there aren't some of these old guys there, too.) Zettler has been around in the Upper Arlington area for years. They have a wide, wide, wide variety of hardware and household materials. A refreshing place to visit with plenty of friendly and knowledgeable staff if you are looking for something other than a big box hardware superstore experience. The building appears to be really old and dirty. The inside has a carpet floor that looks like it hasn't been vacuumed this decade. Also appears to be wildly outdated. There are lots of isles in the building despite it being very small so the entire place feels claustrophobic. In the winter time, when I went in, I noticed that the building was freezing and when I went to check, it was not even 60 degrees inside! At least they tried to keep the building warm with their really shitty heater which makes a super loud noise to the point where you can barely hear someone standing next to you. And to top it all off, there was a sign that hung above the counter in the paint isle that said "color solutions" and believe it or not, half of the letters on the sign are backwards as if putting them on the correct way was too much of a hassle. As for the store itself, i would guess that about 60% of products are actually stocked. Talk about unprofessional. The prices are outrageous. As I walked past the snacks next to the register, I noticed that a regular sized candy bar was about 2.50. And don't even get me started on the return policy. I bought a nut driver which ended up being the wrong size and they actually didn't have the size I needed. Turns out they have a policy where you can't return tools at all which is simply just stupid. I also returned several other things and they had me fill out a form which asked me to not only sign it, but to fill out my name and my phone number which seems really unnecessary to me but I might be wrong. Not to mention the check out process took a very long time because the computer is 100 years old and painfully slow. Their customer service seemed to be fine aside from one person who was just overall nasty to not only his co workers, but also customers. I come to learn that he is the owner of the store! That honestly explains everything I just wrote about. The guy doesn't have a clue how to maintain a business. Never would I recommend shopping here. I would rather drive 20 minutes to the nearest Home Depot. read more

Zettler Hardware is that small, locally owned hardware store that your grandpa always went to back when everything was repaired instead of thrown away. I go here all the time when I need the minor stuff. Always someone willing to help - usually will have what I need too. Are the prices a tad high? Yes - because their inventory is a lot less. When I add the fuel/maintenance cost of driving across town to the big box stores - It ends up being a wash. It's your typical locally owned business. Is the facility a little old? Flooring a little old? Yeah - typical small locally owned business. It's still clean, and I am always proud to support the locally owned business. read more

What a neat little store. I know, its a hardware store and how much fun could that be to a woman? Well, when you walk into the store, someone is always there to greet you and to see if you need help looking for anything. This past summer, the hubby and I went to ZH to get a duplicate key for his Lexus. Given that the key would of been $200-300 at a dealership, he got one made here for about $85. Yeah, saving big bucks!!! Also, a few summers ago I brought my back sliding door screen plus my 2 window screens into ZH for them to replace. They had them done in a matter of 3-4 days and less than $100. They look beautiful! Well, maybe not so much anymore for the sliding back door screen. Our lovely yellow lab/english setter decided to poke a hole in it a few weekends ago. But, I am thinking about sending this back over to Zettler to repair. Either that or buy a new one at Home Depot. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone!! read more

In a time where every brick and mortar location is uniform to the point that it bears not character or charm of its own, you latch onto those local haunts that still possess a modicum of personality. For the DIY person or just the random citizen trying to fix something around the home without breaking the bank, the local hardware store was once a fixture of the entire experience. More often than not I find that all of the independent retailers of various tools, fixtures and fittings are being replaced by "big box" vendors like Home Depot or Lowes, and while these behemoths of the industry have their place, you can often feel powerless and alone with facing a very specific, intimate, immediate, and seemingly insurmountable task. Thankfully, there's always been Zettler Hardware on the corner of Kenny and Henderson for me. I know they have other locations, but this strangely shaped and curiously (if not hilariously) semi-inconveniently located hardware store is close to where I live and has been my mainstay for everything I need to fix my home, occasionally my car, and anything in between. The employees are all real people with specific knowledge sets. They're approachable and kind. The selection is phenomenal for making sure you get what you need and get home to fix it. There's a familial feel to the place - something you just can't find in bigger stores where the experience is uniform, manicured and bland. This was a review a long time in the making, but that was because I've frankly taken them for granted. While I do my best, I've fallen into the familiar Yelp trap of reviewing food-forward locales and not always establishments of utility. But something jogged my memory to do this, and is a small, but perfect example of why this place is so great. My current vehicle is the first to ever have a "smart" remote access key, with a push-button start. The battery in the key started to fail, and I knew I had to address this sooner rather than later to prevent any issues with accessing or running my vehicle. The ACE employee there said she'd gladly take a look at it over the phone, and sure enough, popped the smart key open (after researching to make sure she had the right make and model process) and replaced the battery with a fresh one off one of their shelves. Sure enough, everything is right as rain and just for the cost of the battery. If you consider the fact some folks don't consider their local hardware store as a place for this kind of solution, and instead turn to other methods, you can see the cost value proposition of it all. Either way, their assistance was fast and did the job. I've been living nearby for almost 15 years now. And I've always been able to count on this Zettler location to help me in my hour, minute, or day of need. I guess I'm just happy that I'm now equipped, thanks to Yelp, to finally return the favor. read more

I live in the upper Arlington area and I only choose to support local non chain businesses. Me and my husband of 3 years went to this hardware store to find glue for one of our weekly Sunday projects. As I arrive I noticed the building was quite dirty, and as someone who is allergic to dust mites I was highly concerned for my safety. Getting to the point, as my husband and I are at the counter I hear one man say "Only faggots hate on my Raptor" hearing this was heart breaking. I felt the need to leave immediately. Me and my husband felt so attacked that we won't be returning to this hardware store! It's sad hearing that in this world we still hate on our LGBTQ+ community. I only gave two stars because of the other employees. They immediately noticed how offensive that statement was and immediately apologized for their other workers behavior. I believe the worker who said the offensive words was someone higher up in the line due to him not wearing a uniform. read more

Zettler feels like an Ace Hardware but with more character. They have been in Columbus for generations, ran by the same family since its founding, they are one of the cities oldest continual company. Part of a co-opt now, Zettler has prices that compete with the big boxes, with outstanding customer service not found in the prefab jungles. Going in there reminds me of the small tool stores of my youth, there is a real small town neighborhood feel here. I come here for tools, often after a spout of fixture damaging clumsiness. They have everything you need for repairs, and it is easier to shop than aimlessly wandering under the gondola caverns of HD, thinking a strap will break and causing death by plywood. Half my set comes from here; they have in stock both high end and cheeper level of tools. They have all types of screws, bolts, washers and nails. It is a good place to trade your empty propane tank for a new one, keeping the summer and fall BQs going. They have all the hardware services, ie keys. Which they do with a better skill than at a drug store or other quickly places. They don't make you feel stupid if you ask about something, and they know there stuff. read more

This used to be our go to hardware store, i guess they're having an employee shortage along with fast food services. My husband came to this location alot in the past, they used to be reliable. My husband went there today to get duplicate keys made for upstairs bedrooms and the doors for downstairs. The 3 for upstairs fit, and the ones for downstairs don't fit. Clueless employees, poor return policy, high prices and poor return policy, all in a dirty building with next to no parking. If it weren't for old ladies who don't know better, they would have folded long ago. Don't even think about returning something, it takes forever because the cashiers are idiots and usually need to find a manager and unlike most stores, their computer check-out system doesn't keep track of credit card purchases. I was trying to fix something, and one stuck screw kept me from doing so. Figuring that a local store would be better for this than a Home Depot or the like, I went in here and (being generally unfamiliar with this sort of thing) asked about it. They suggested that I buy a $20 electric screwdriver, so I did and it ended up being worthless for the task at hand. I then went back, only to find out that they have a no-return policy on tools. this place is just the "best" .,, get a few wood screws for a project; fix a garden tool by inserting a wood dowel in the handle, solved my garden digging weeder and soil breaking tool ,, fir 25 cent investment - saved me from purchasing a new handle or entire unit. Zettler's on Kenny Rd is a great local hardware store. What a welcome change from the oversized, overwhelming chain stores. Aside from having all the basic little hardware stuff, paints and stains that you need to keep a home going, we've bought bigger stuff here too including a wonderful 3 seat yard swing and a free-standing gasoline generator. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. What's more - they cut keys, rewire lamps and replace window screens. They also carry proven products that are hard to find elsewhere like BORAX powder (great cleaner and insecticide) and BON-AMI cleanser (won't scratch). I hope this place never goes away as long as we live here. read more

Great Hardware Store, great employees that ask & care what you're looking for. Twice I bought simple tools on the weekend that when I went home weren't the right ones and had to buy elsewhere. I returned to the store with receipt, in the factory sealed package NEVER opened or USED, within hours, only to be told no returns are allowed. Both times I returned on Monday to have the Owner refund my money but tell me that was not their policy and it was the employees fault. The Owner makes his employees so scared on returns they can't or won't even use common sense. The owner also seemed to care less about my experience even though I'm a regular customer.
