There are signs posted throughout the store regarding items that are on sale that do not scan properly. Upon further review after purchasing the Libman items they left an expired sign up. I spoke with the manager Jeff Lynn and he refused to honor the price and give me the refund required. This has multiple times at this location and they are attempting to overcharge customers on an ongoing basis. "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks..." is not just a cheesy slogan for this little hardware store. In the case of this location, it's the truth. I've driven by this Ace on many occasions, but it wasn't until recently that I actually took the time to swing through. The larger hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowe's are all out in the suburbs of Columbus and I wasn't looking to make a 20-minute drive for a few little things. I arrived to find a small and very full parking lot. I was lucky to find one spot open and made my way inside. It was a busy day, but I was still greeted by the staff a few times. I did ask where I could find what I was looking for and a young gentleman was happy to point me in the right direction. I grabbed what I needed and headed to cash out. There was a tiny wait, but the staff was quick to notice and another cashier made her way over. I'm so glad I took the time to stop here instead driving out of the neighborhood. I'll be sure to visit again whenever I'm in a need of a few knick knacks. While the prices seemed a bit higher than normal, this was definitely an instance where I didn't mind spending the few extra dimes in replace of car time. read more

I'm not sure if you understand that there are several Schreiner Ace Hardwares in Columbus. This is very very specific to the Schreiner Ace Hardware on 5th Avenue between Olentangy and Grandview Avenues. I committed myself years ago to supporting local business as opposed to those great big makeup box stores. There are times that I will find myself needing to go to a megabox store yes definitely. However, to find a small personalized company where I matter and they will work with me to benefit me it's all good. So after several years using Schreiner Ace Hardware on 5th Avenue I believe it's time for me to brag about them. A. The store is always always always extremely well-stocked, clean, organized and labeled so that you really don't stumble or struggle with meeting the needs that you have when you walked through the front door. B. Jeff, the general manager, amazes me at how he must control his labor hours. He has committed staff that know exactly what they're doing, how to ask you the questions that need asked so that you walk away with everything that you need. they're always correct and right on. How do these people get trained and where does he find these people. Men and women that are so gifted within that store? C. Schreiner Ace Hardware in Grandview offers little things that you may not have known. They will repair all of those window screens door screens that you have laying around that need repaired. They have so much knowledge of individuals that are skilled if you need to contact someone for services or to give estimates they know who and they approve who's cards go on the keyboard in the back of the store. D. Tool rental.. they have an entire area that is committed to Big major Tool Rental pieces and major large equipment purchases. E. Do you need special orders they'll do it! Don't hesitate to ask questions or even if your vague they will help you understand what's going on. Go in talk to the folks and walk around and you'll see how you should be treated. I wish I could put a zero star. I recently stopped at this store to replace a heating lamp. I walked in with my dog because they have always been dog friendly. I also like to support local merchants. As I walked into and past the register area the cashier asked me to put my back pack behind the counter. I use a small back pack for ease of navigation with pup. I have never been asked by anyone here to hold it while I shopped. I felt that he suspected me and embarrassed me in front of shoppers and staff. I'm a 67 y.o. grandmother and I was dressed appropriately. I asked if he thought I was a thief. He said no, just go ahead. At this point I was aggravated and humiliated. I am disappointed that this is how I was treated after always getting exceptional service here. I will not return but go instead to the big box stores. Just sad. read more

We use Shriner Ace in Grandview a lot, unlike the bigger box stores there is always someone to help and I am in and out quickly. About a year ago we bought a Korky toilet valve replacement at this store and it recently would not stop the toilet from running. We contacted the company and Maribel from Korky sent us very helpful emails to diagnose the problem and a replacement part that fixed it. If you like supporting neighborhood businesses, this is a great place to live out that philosophy. With a building for traditional hardware sales and a building for small engine repair/larger equipment, the only problem you'll find here is parking, as the lot is limited in size. Knowledgable employees will guide you through this place which is crammed full of old school hardware items. I found, in stock, a metal pipe I needed for an emergency plumbing repair that had not been at the other big box stores. I think this pipe will be in my home for 20+ years like the one it replaced. Nice! Get keys made, eat free popcorn, and shop knowing they'll be there to help. And get on their ace hardware barcode plan, as it ends up mailing you useful coupons. An entire gallon of paint spilled in the back of my minivan and Schreiner Ace Hardware on 5th did not care to remedy the situation properly. I was treated with cold customer service, despite my family frequently shopping there. When I was purchasing the 3 gallons of paint, the associate informed me he was new.  I am convinced he did not secure that one gallon properly. They said there is video of the paint area; I replied I would love to see it but they refused to show me. The store manager, Jeff, he did not want to get the owner, Bob, involved. Jeff initially wanted to lend me a carpet cleaner and have me clean it myself but then he learned it would ruin his equipment so then he called the owner. After talking to Bob, the recommendation was to get it detailed as soon as possible and discuss reimbursement after. Thankfully, MAG detailers worked a miracle. Bob, the owner of ACE Schirner Hardware, refused to reimburse me for the nonimal detailing bill so they lost a good customer for life. Mistakes happen and they should have fixed it. read more

I've been stopping back here for the last two weeks while I work on replacing an old window in our house, and the employees here have been super helpful. I brought in the window and everything, and they were able to give me advice on fixing it. Well, I was having some issues, since it was an old wood window, and it turns out that they can repair and install the pane for only $10, and the glass itself only costs $13.99. What a deal! I've been here several times before, and their prices are great compared to other shops in the area. They also have a pretty large service center to have mowers, tractors, etc. repaired. The parking lot is pretty tiny, and it can turn into a mess if there's a lot of people there. I don't suggest going on Sunday afternoons when I was there, since it was super busy, especially if it's nice out. Every other day I went was fine. The perfect neighborhood alternative to Lowes or Home Depot! They have a decent selection of home improvement needs and a more diverse selection than the larger box stores with more variety in product selection and options that you won't find at Lowes and Home Depot. What sets them apart is service. They have excellent customer service. You never have to search or ring for someone to help you while waiting helplessly at an empty desk. They seem to have a sixth sense that you need help and rescue you before you even need to ask. I highly recommend this Ace to everyone in the Grandview/Arlington/Campus area. Earlier this week, brand new to Columbus, I paid a visit to this location because I needed a three-way light bulb for a newly-purchased lamp. I've been a customer of this store for 13 years since I moved into the German Village area. While its great to have a local hardware store, the prices have become so outrageous I can no longer afford to shop here. For example, the same size bag of pet-friendly ice melt that I just purchased there today for $27.99 costs only $9.99 at a competitor about a mile down the road. I can understand a slightly higher price and would consider that worth the convenience factor but almost triple the price is blatant price-gouging. They also have a great staff who are very helpful- whether it is my handy husband who has a complicated challenge about which he is seeking suggestions (he also enjoys the bags of fresh popcorn they hand out) or me (and they don't make me feel silly asking). The is the quintessential hardware store. Where the big guys decided to extend their selections to include carpet, appliances of every type and lost personalization in the process; the Ace (in my opinion) stuck what makes a neighborhood hardware invaluable: - As another reviewer mentioned; SERVICE EXCELLENCE/TRUE CUSTOMER CARE. The staff are right with you just after you come thru the door and if you list verbally your item needed they will very specifically direct you to the isle number and location. The also ask if you need help (and can tell when I need so follow me) based upon the look on my face. They always ask if you need help, but don't be afraid to say "yes". It is not a sales push. If you say you need it, they will ask you "what is the problem" and if the greeter doesn't have expertise in that area that staff member the right person to consult with you. Everyone has an small microphone/intercom that is connected to all the other staff and he asks if the person with the highest credentials in giving you a solution to come to to the isle you are directed to. They provide you with EXPERT advice and don't oversell. Even though you may be paying a premium over the big guy price, it is definitely worth it. You will not find someone at the chains that has an attention to service and a knowledge base to make sure you make the correct and so if you can end going to see them over and over. - The second value proposition is a "tailor-made custom" QUALITY experience where "customer experience orientation" is full-on. I like it to buying by high end German cars. I can look right my BMW and say that is the ultimate driving machine" or my Audi and say, "You are hip and beautiful" . Those brands give me an experience that I think is palpable. I know the brand. I feel the consistency. If it can be done, they will help you make decisions that crucial and move fast if they don't have the part in stock by calling another store and seeing if it nearby. If it is you can stop back the same day and it will have been transferred. If no stores have it, they will do a custom order for you (without charge) and usually you get the part with a 2 day window. I have NO affiliation to Ace Hardware. But, I had to prep my house to put it on the market and when I did that I found all kinds of things to do. Through that 4 month process, they gave be every attention that I needed. So, I believe that I am an expert on the Ace Hardware on W 5th Ave in Columbus. They had just opened when I started the remodel process. The first visit gave me the right starting impression of professionalism. It was probably followed by 100 visits over 4 months. At least I have that many sales receipts. I am an expert on that Ace and they ace it (sorry folks) every time. - I almost forgot something. PRODUCT EXCELLENCE. You may pay a little more but the product quality is surpasses the chains. I have been intending to write a personal note for a while now. But, I think a public Thank You is even better. Could not have done it without you.
