Been meaning to come forever but it's just not on my usual routes (how often do I say that?) I was nearby today. I kept hearing how good it was, and that's not hype- service was excellent, on two visits from multiple people. Selection is pretty darn good for a small local hardware store. It's not tiny, but it's not huge. Lots of options for each thing we needed. Bright and open, nicely arranged, tons of things you need- and don't, plenty of impulse buy stuff set around, so watch yourself. Prices for those, and in general, are maybe a little high, but the location will be handy for many people and you can avoid the hassle and gas use of going to a big box. I really want to like this small locally owned shop. But unfortunately, because they are an ACE Hardware affiliate, many of the products they sell are ACE brand. I have found those products to be very low quality, often breaking after only a season or two of normal use. Neither the shop nor ACE offer any warranty, referring the buyer instead to the manufacturer's warranty. On occasions when I've made a warranty claim, the manufacturers have simply ignored those claims. read more

It is great to have a neighborhood hardware store. I have had a mixed bag of customer experiences here, but it is nice to be able to ask for help. If I could give a 0 rating I would. This location is by far the worst in the city. I go to ace hardwares all over columbus and this if the first time I've been approached by the owner and accused of trying to scam because his power tool burned up internally upon use(he could clearly see). He refused to give me a return and kicked me out after insulting my character. Extremely unprofessional and kept clarifying he could do what he pleases because he is the owner. Nutter Hardware is the best locally owned hardware store in Columbus. It has the stuff you're looking for. The service is also much better that at the chain stores. It's good to support your local businesses. The staff is the best and knowledgeable. If you've been to chains like Home Depot you have no idea where most of your products come from. It's likely no one at the store would know. The staff at this local hardware store have tremendous knowledge of their products. It also buys American so they have good quality items. The store may be family run but that doesn't mean they can't rival the chains in services offered. It provides home installation services if you need help. The store also has character unlike the chains which employ zombies. It has a popcorn machine popular with kids. There's also quirky features like an aisle with loose nails and parts. Very nice hardware store! The staff here was extremely friendly. I was greeted and offered assistance multiple times by different individuals. I was easily able to find the basics I was looking for, and when I did end up with a question, it was answered promptly with some different options from which to choose. I requested a large item that they asked me to drive around back and loaded in the car for me, which was very helpful. There is plentiful parking available in the shopping center lot. read more

This place just opened a couple days ago so hopefully the new store shine stays around for a good while. That being said while the store itself is new it's actually in the space (well some of it) that the Kingsdale Giant Eagle used to occupy before being replaced by the food mecca that is Market District. The store itself is bright and inviting, the only thing that didn't look brand new and pristine were the floors which they probably inherited with the space. They were very clean, just looked worn, no biggie it's a hardware store! I wasn't looking for anything in particular when I went in, just sort of checking it out, but the store is smaller than the Sears Hardware store, but appeared to offer more services. The staff of the store and management are all friendly and outgoing as you'd expect from a business just getting started and trying to make a name for itself in the community. If they're friendliness keeps up, they will give Sears Hardware on henderson a serious run for their money. Especially since apparently ACE Hardware stores (Nutter is an ACE store) now carry Craftsman products. This side of Upper Arlington has been in need of a hardware store for a while now, hopefully this one does well! read more

I may have a screw loose, but I love small hardware stores with loose screws LOL. Seriously, Nutter Hardware has one entire aisle with loose wood screws, sheet metal screws, machine screws, nuts, in brass, steel and you name it. No blister packs anywhere! Not just nuts and bolts, they also have a huge paint department, Honda snow blowers, big ceramic smoker grills, rock salt and on and on. Service is the best part of the surviving little-box hardware guys. As soon as you walk thru the door here somebody asks what you need and points you to the right place. This saves so much time and frustration it's just amazing. Anyone remember when Zettler hardware was in the middle of Kingsdale? I shop here for little things because it's close to my house, otherwise, I go to Home Depot because Nutter is expensive- like 20% more expensive. One bonus is that they carry Benjamin Moore paint, the best paint on earth. TIP: Alway buy good paint, it goes on easier, lasts longer and you'll have less coats to apply. However, it can be hard to find someone to mix the paint color for you at this store. Ace Rewards are a good deal and worth signing up for. You don't have to carry another card, you use your phone number. They send you coupons for a certain percentage off or set dollar amount. read more

This is an excellent hardware store, and a welcome break from big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes. This staff is generally very well trained and knowledgable, and if they don't know something, they will find someone who does. This place is about 1/20 the size of a big box store, but they still manage to fit an astonishing array of products inside. They carry Benjamin Moore paint (its da best yo), and the guys that mix paint know their business. They also have a rental department, which is great. There are all sorts of tasks that I only need to do 1-2 times a year, and it makes no sense to have a piece of equipment taking up space at home. I've rented from then many times. I suspect that their prices are a bit higher than a big box store, but thats a bit of an illusion. Big box stores are often filled with low grade tools, fasteners and gear that ends up being junk when I use it. Nutter has higher quality tools, and I've noticed that they feature many US made tools, which I think is a huge plus. If you're tired of wandering the giant big box stores, and dealing with their stunningly unhelpful employees, this is the place to go. Great business. read more

I'd give more than 5 stars if I could. We just bought a Honda lawnmower from here this past weekend and had a very positive experience. It's apparent that customer service is a top priority in this family-run business. Multiple employees checked in with us throughout our visit to make sure all our questions/needs were being addressed. They even let me try a lawnmower out around the shop to make sure I was able to start and maneuver it before we bought it. Dan N. really went above and beyond to help us: he showed my husband some basics of using it and even rolled the box out to our car to help us load it. And lastly, they have a popcorn maker near the front entrance for any customer interested in eating some delicious buttery (and free) popcorn, which happens to be my favorite snack! read more

Unlike some other reviewers I always have a bad experience at this particular Ace. Because I know there can be an 'off day' I've gone back several times for a second and third chance. Each time it's lackluster. The 'customer service' is a joke. I waited in the service area for over 5 minutes at my last visit and finally an employee came to ask me what I needed. He not only did not greet me and thank me for waiting, but acted like I was bothering him when I asked a question. When he finally quoted me on a price for a screen door replacement, he said it would take 3 weeks because they were so backed-up. The joke was there was not a single employee working in the service area - no wonder it's a lengthy wait! The staff members are friendly and know their stuff. The range of products is perfect for home owners. They also have a fantastic tool rental and repair shop. You can rent what ever piece of gear you need...and avoid paying a contractor to do it for you. The repair department is well organized and you can check up on the status of your repairs on line. Nutters Hardware also has an old time feel about. Although they exploit every modern technology, there is an old school feel about the place. You can get popcorn, BB guns, Frosty Rootbeer, old time candy as well as every practical item you might need. The selection might be a little smaller than Lowes or Home Depot but 99% of the time you will get what you need here and not leave frustrated. I can't think of a time I have gone in for something and they haven't had it in stock and been able to give me advice on the project if I needed it. I went in to the store to inquire about their Honda generators, and was given terrific advice about which unit to purchase. The staff was very helpful, unfortunately the suggested unit was out of stock. The owner was there, and he very generously offered to lend me his personal generator to use until my unit came in. Mr. Nutter came on May 17 to give an estimate on needed repairs to our property. He arrived late. I was told that I would receive an estimate within a day or two. I received an email on May 22 indicating that he had not forgotten about submitting an estimate and that I would receive an estimate by the 23rd am. I emailed on the 30th to say that I'd not received a response. His reply the same day indicated that the estimate was emailed last week, and that he would confirm the email address and send again, and would call to follow up and confirm receipt of the estimate. I wrote back that same day to confirm my email; he has not responded. After checking email folders, there is no indication that he emailed me anything. On the 1st I emailed him saying I had not received anything. No response. On June 4 I sent this: It's been several weeks since you visited to measure the property; I have concluded that you are not interested in this project; I fear that this may be a prediction of how your services might proceed. Therefore I am no longer interested in your services. read more

Oh sure its a friendly neighborhood hardware store...UNTIL YOU HAVE A PROBLEM! My mother went to this hardware store last week to purchase fertilizer for her lawn. She has a bad back and cannot carry anything heavy. She asked for a bag so she could carry the fertilizer to her car. The woman at the register was incredibly rude to her when she asked for help getting the fertilizer in the bag. Last time I checked, THATS CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE. So my mom brought the fertilizer home, opened it up and realized it was all wet inside and clumped together. My mom had to take the fertilizer back to the store the next day. She spoke to the owner. Let me repeat that. THE OWNER. She said "sir my fertilizer is all wet inside and I can't use it. Is there anyway I can get another bag?" He said "why is that my problem." BECAUSE ITS YOUR STORE AND YOUR FAULTY PRODUCT. My mom was shocked and told him that she just wanted to exchange the bag because she unknowingly purchased a bag of fertilizer that was wet. He told her "I don't have any proof you are telling the truth." As if my mother was trying to con this man for a free bag of fertilizer. My mom demanded she go see the rest of the bags and inspect them to see if they were also wet. And sure enough, they were. My mom, after a 20 minute ordeal with the OWNER, finally got another bag of fertilizer and walked out. Thus goes against everything a good business owner is supposed to do when a customer encounters a problem. He should never have questioned my mother who just wanted to purchase a dry bag. He was incredibly rude and she left very very upset. Especially considering this store apparently used to be run by people who aren't such total dick wads. Honestly, if you are looking for a nice friendly hardware store, take your business to the Ace Hardware in grandview. They are always nice, always helpful, and always knowledgeable about their products....and maybe whats wet and whats dry. I understand everyone has tough days at work where they are frustrated with customers, but this is NEVER the answer. Screw this piece of shit. read more

The staff shows me where the item is and in the one instance gave me the technical information on the part so I could select the correct one for my project. Nutter Hardware grade is based on three things. Convenience - the store opened last year and is right around the corner from me. Because I don't have lawn care on my To-Do list, Nutter remains my go-to store for the handheld items. Paint, tape, electrical cords, and such. Staff - they ask what you're there to find and get you moving. This is critical to me as I want first hand knowledge and Nutter staff gives in in spades. Product - Okay, it's not Lowe's and won't be. But I would challenge anyone who is trying to get some handiwork done to try Nutter for its offerings. The aisles are narrow so there is a lot jammed into a smallish store. It feels down home and the owner seems to be trying to make it stay that way. The fifth star would come if check-out service were reconfigured. The area seems out of place for some reason and people tend to run back for "oh, I forgot this thing" and they let 'em. Patience, my son. Nutter is good stuff. read more
