I was in yesterday. I had been in a couple times before that, but yesterday, since I had to wait for a helpful employee call another Ace about pipes, I had a moment to wait & absorb the environment. The store was busy. All the workers were busy. But they all made sure to greet every customer & follow up with offers of help. The building's above 100 years old. It reminded me, while I was waiting, of the small town hardware shops my grandpa & I would hit when we needed supplies between roofing jobs. That was a great memory for me. I don't live in this neighborhood and only knew of Beechwold Hardware by its reputation. So, when working in the area and needing some supplies, I naturally headed to Beechwold Hardware. This is a true (translate that as "old school") hardware store. This is a store where the staff "knows hardware" and is very knowledgeable. They are very helpful and know where everything is - unlike the big box stores. I would highly recommend this store to anyone with hardware needs. read more

Beechwold Hardware is the hardware store I have been looking for all my life. In this day and age, you almost forget the hardware stores of the past, we are sadly use to going to the big box stores. Well not anymore folks, not this girl. I found the mecca of a hometown hardware store. Where the employees are not only friendly, but they are readily available and extremely knowledgeable. We live in a house that was built in 1900, we always have a home project or two going on. We find that the items or fixes we need are never quite what the big box stores have. But low and behold, Beechwold, has what our home needs. And they have the employees that can assist and instruct us on making the projects happen. They have been heaven sent! We have been searching for an entryway transition strip for 2.5 yrs, but none work for our house full of character, (what all our friends call our house instead of calling it old). Anyways, we stopped into Beechwold and they had exactly what we needed. We also needed advice on how to put screens in our windows. Again, this is an old house. Two of the employees walked us through our options and even let us know that they make screens, there in house! Amazing!!!! The employees even directed us on how to measure correctly. We are working on that now, and then planning on heading back to Beechwold to place our order. Beechwold Hardware is phenomenal. The employees are knowledgeable and helpful. They actually care, they want to help. It is now our first stop hardware store. Please check them out, especially if you have an old house like us. They will help you! read more

I love Beechwold Hardware. This is a really friendly neighborhood hardware store like the kind you grew up with. They have a good selection of the things you need and the staff there are so friendly and very knowledgeable. They have offered to order in items that they don't have in stock. This summer, they have a small plant section out front as well. They are pet friendly and have a container of dog treats behind the counter. My dog likes to visit for a sniffari and a cookie from the cashier, and they always seem happy to have a furry little visitor. read more

This is my favorite hardware store in the city. We have 2 big box hardware stores down the street, but even 20 minutes away , we go to Beechwald. The only thing bad about this place is that it requires me to make left hand turns on high street :) Great inventory selection. Pricing usually rivals Amazon (which is to say very competitive and I actually feel good about spending locally). The main reason to shop here though is the staff which A) Is knowledgeable B) very friendly C) genuinely cares. 3 things you aren't going to find in any big box store anywhere else in the state. Since I moved, getting to Beechwold Hardware is a real hike. Now that I'm a homeowner it is a hike I unfortunately have to make often; but every time it is worth it because shopping anywhere else always ends up being a waste of time. They get the right product for the job in your hands. They give you great advise on how to tackle the project, and that prevents you from having to come back again to get the thing you should have bought the first time. Having just moved to the area a few months ago, I have been to Beechwold Hardware at least a dozen times. They've had everything I needed at comparable prices to the big hardware stores, and they've even ordered things for me that I couldn't find for the same price or less than Amazon. The best thing about them is customer service, I'm always greeted promptly by someone asking if I need help finding anything, and they even have dog treats for the pup. I'd rather go here than any other hardware store because of how nice everyone is. read more

As an inept new Clintonville homeowner, this place has saved my bacon on dozens of occasions and I can't recommend them highly enough. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, even after my fourth trip there in one day because I am apparently unable to measure something correctly (oy). They are always willing to show me a solution, recommend a product, or talk me through important information when making a decision on a DIY project or fix. And, being able to pop down the street and be there in 2 minutes means I'm actually *more* likely to try and tackle new projects, because who wants to make a 20 minute schlep to a chain hardware store, wander around with no help, and when you get home, realize you bought the wrong kind of epoxy and have to do the whole trip all over again? Not me. Love having this gem in the neighborhood, and I'm sure they'll see me even more now that summer has rolled around! read more

I had an issue (of course I did) with missing hardware from an Ashley Furniture delivery (they suck, but that's a separate review). I instantly knew where to go for help....Beechwold Hardware of course! The staff is very knowledgeable and is always willing to help you out. I showed the staff member the instructions and he noted that they didn't carry the length I needed, but instantly thought of other solutions and it worked out great! Wow. If you don't quite know what you are doing, this is the hardware store to go to. Today I needed a giant selection of nuts and bolts. For as much as I fix things, for some reason I don't know my nuts and bolts. I went there with a list and the guy that helped me knew everything. I tried to help but was useless. The guy picked everything out, bagged, and marked them. I can't imagine trying to get this order at Lowe's. I would have been there all day. Beechwold Ace Hardware deserves a Gold Star for Customer Service. If you have ever felt ignored, patronized, disrespected or just downright cheated by a business, you will immediately recognize the value in coming here. None of that happens at this place. Ever. Never. Customers can count on someone giving them a warm greeting/farewell, asking if they need help and receiving knowledgeable assistance. This is a much appreciated distinction from most other service experiences. Perhaps, being a long time family owned business is a contributing factor. You may pay more, or even less, than other major hardware stores, it just depends. At any rate, it is worth coming here. Don't worry if you don't know much, someone here does. Even if you do know much, you can appreciate having a discourse with someone similar minded. They go out of their way to assist you. When I rented a power washer, the guy patiently spent several minutes explaining exactly how to use it and loaded it in the car for me. He also put some gas in it to get me started, expecting none upon return. On this particular occasion, the price was better than at the Lowes or Home Depot. When my key fob battery was low in my car, they found the right battery AND literally replaced it FOR $5. Try getting that price and service at the dealership or online. Once, they cut tubing on the spot to meet my exact need. I have had keys made, door screens replaced and impromptu lessons on how to fix something. Just a few examples of my experiences with this store. Also, there are bins full of all types of nuts, screws, bolts, tubing, etc. This place can be a treasure trove for Mr. Fix It types and repairmen. Even if I didn't live in the neighborhood, I would probably come here. They are that awesome. Beechwold Ace Hardware recognizes the customers matter, as well as the little things. Beechwold and the surrounding area are so lucky to have an established, old-school, family-owned hardware store like Beechwold Hardware. They are always overstaffed with knowledgeable people (young and old), and they never let you walk more than a few steps into the store without offering help. In fact, I'm so used to wandering through other stores unnoticed that I've actually had to recondition myself to be comfortable receiving customer service. If you walk in with a list of needs, someone will walk you around and help you make decisions about anything you're unsure of. It's great, and it's not something you'll get at any big box store. I've bought everything here- tools, paint, grass seed, rocks, lumber, black pipe, plumbing parts, screws, cabinet hardware, and lottery tickets. I've rented tools, too. I always stop here first when I have any hardware needs, and I can only hope that they hang around for another 70 years. Owning a 1920s home means lots of maintenance and projects, with the added wrinkle of matching original hardware and style/character. I'm thankful to have this shop just down the street. read more

Great hardware store. Staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. This was only my second time in the store. I needed some help with a door that wouldn't latch. As someone who is not at all handy herself, Malcolm at Beechwold Hardware gave me instructions on how to fix the problem and even let me borrow a tool from the store to take home with me to use. The door now shuts perfectly, and I feel a bit more confident in my handy man skills. What a great business. Easy 5-star for the best customer service of any hardware store in CBUS. I bought a gas pressure washer and on my second use of it, the engine blew out. Took it back and Malcolm looked at it and agreed it was an engine failure. The entire pressure washer was replaced, for free. The replacement had to be ordered, it came on time exactly when they said it would. Also I'd tell you that Malcolm and Patrick at the help desk are extremely knowledgeable. They are also patient with dudes like me that aren't exactly Bob Vila-esque. This is my hardware store in Columbus from now on, hands down. The owner of this store should give Malcolm a raise, that guy is good. read more

We're so lucky to have this amazing hardware store in the Clintonville area. I come here first before going to the big box stores. Their customer service is incredible - they go above and beyond to help. As others have said you can't walk in without almost immediately being approached with the offer to help. Their product knowledge is incredible and they go way beyond taking you to a product, but can explain how to help kickstart whatever project you're working on as well. In addition I'm always surprised by their selection despite having a smaller store. Their pricing is also extremely competitive. If you're new to the Clintonville neighborhood you'll inevitably be visiting a hardware store sooner than later, it comes with owning an older home. When that time comes make this place your first stop before a Home Depot/Lowes. read more

Beechwold Ace is one of those places that has kind of become a staple of Clintonville. Like that one uncle who is a little off kilter, but you like him even more for it. I spent innumerable hours there working on projects, Where the workers would not only allow me to be there, but hang out with me while I worked, and help me with my blueprints. I agree with Peter that the floorplan is a bit alice in wonderland, but I honestly like the place more for it. I like that they worked with what they had, and managed to make it fairly functional. I will note that it is incredibly handy to have close by. When something goes awry and the part you need will literally cost you a dime, driving to lowes seems a bit too much. That's when you go to ace. I also appreciate it on the level of size. I find lowes to be both intimidating and a little dangerous (I always end up leaving with so much more than I had intended). Ace isn't so overbearing. I also am less likely to get the look of "What the hell is she talking about?" when I explain that I need a small metal piece that looks somewhat like a nose. read more

As first time homeowners, we make a few mistakes along the way. My hubby left gas in the lawnmower over winter and it wouldn't start now that we need to mow again. I saw that Beechwold Hardware repairs lawnmowers, so I took it here early in the morning. They had it up and running by early afternoon at a fair price. I asked them to tune it up too, but they told me that it was in good shape and didn't need it. They could've just done it and taken my money. I think that's great! read more

I've been using this hardware (my favorite in Columbus) for 28 years. I've found all my paint colors here, most of my gardening tools, grass seed, chemicals, you name it. They have also repaired tons of things for us, even sharpened my good knives. They are the best! I've special ordered a few hard to find items too. I've visiting the Beechwold Ace at least 3 times since moving to the area. The staff is always very helpful and friendly so I don't have to spend any time hunting down the products I am looking for.
