Skip this theater and go to Harrisonburg or Charlottesville. It will be worth the scenic drive after you read this. The positive: Easy online ticketing service and comfy seats The NEGATIVE: Dirty!! The bathrooms reak of urine! Even in the women's restrooms! Comparable to that nursing home smell. The floors were so sticky that you would think they had been mopped with soda. You could see that a mopped had been swiped down the floors in each row of seats; but seeing the path of the mop proves that cleaning is NOT a priority in this place! The Zeus is/was a great place to watch a movie. It's always clean, and their equipment is up to date with the latest technology out there. The sound quality is great! The price is average with most theaters out there, including concessions. The staff is young and can be a little distracted at times but they seem to do their job well enough. Now the one thing I can't stand about this place, and it's made me make the longer drive to the Alamo Drafthouse Theater across the mountain is that Zeus has an extremely weak "No Talking, No Texting" policy. My wife and I have had to endure so many moments of people talking throughout the movie. Laughing at the ones who "Shush" them and still going on with their conversation. Movies are just too expensive anymore for your experience to be ruined by rude, inconsiderate people. I've sat right beside people who think it's alright to pull out their phones during the movie and start texting. Now I get getting excited and even cheering and clapping for big moments during the movie. To sit there and not even pay attention to the movie because you're talking and joking with your family or friends is ridiculous. You're wasting people's time and money. Like the Alamo Drafthouse, their policy is a strict " Quiet zone. No talking no Texting. If you're caught, or get complained on you get one warning and after that you're ejected without a refund." And they put that message on the screen before every movie. And it works! We've never had an issue over there with any movie we've seen. Until Zeus adopts a stricter "No talking, No texting" policy we will continue to make the trip, and even pay a little more at The Alamo Drafthouse Theater. In the end it's about where you're getting the best experience for your money. It's not at the Zeus. read more

As a movie lover, I've been to so many theatres, all over the United States. And I can honestly say, this is my favorite place. The seats are comfortable. It's run professionally. So the Owner is a local Bigshot who acts like he's a savior to the locals, and there are countless rumors (some verified) of him shouting at and abusing the employees emotionally. For this, and for friends and other locals, the least I can do is knock off a star to support them and spread the word. HOWEVER, as far as theaters go. the quality and service here is great. The food is okay, but they overcharge like every other theater in existence. They don't charge extra for the little things that really make the experience great, though, like Layering butter on the popcorn, or extra salt. Refills are only free if you buy the largest size Popcorn/Drink, and they do offer point cards and discounts for repeating customers. The service is great and we have never had issues. The employees are mostly teenagers, which is standard fare for movie theaters, and yet they are polite and very understanding. It's cheaper than going to Charlottesville or Harrisonburg for a movie, but again, that's only if you can look past the bad things behind the scenes. read more

Dropped into this lovely little town for a relaxing film after visiting Shenandoah National Park and I'm so impressed! This theater is pristine: the cleanest lobby, floors, and seats I've ever seen. The staff were so friendly and inviting, there's a great deal on popcorn and drinks, and they even had a decent-sized game room in the lobby! The credits before the film advertise tons of local, small businesses. It's just a great little theater with a decent array of film choices. I must admit that I do not understand all of the 4 and 5 star reviews. It is a modern movie theater, nothing more, nothing less. I am sure that Zeus is better than the previous theaters in the area...but that is simply because it is a new, modern venue with digital projection and stadium seating. For the record, movie theaters just like this were built 15 years ago in more populated areas. It is nice that Waynesboro finally gets one....but nothing to write home about. People in Waynesboro getting excited about Zeus is sort of like getting all excited that McDonalds accepts credit cards. Been there, done that...welcome to the modern world. My biggest complaint with Zeus is that they do not make wise-use of their limited 8 screens. While larger venues (like Richmond) often boast 20+ screens, Zeus has only 8. Therefore, they need to use those 8 screens wisely. Today, for example, they are showing both Brave and Brave 3D. They are also showing both Prometheus and Prometheus 3D. So...they are using half of their available screens to show just two movies (regular format and 3D versions). Why do they feel the need to do this? Just show the 3D version...and open up the other screens for more movies. If you only want to go see the big mega-blockbuster movies (in your choice of standard or 3D) I am sure Zeus will meet your needs. However, if you want to go see a "second-tier" movie...you will need to make a trip to Charlottesville or Harrisonburg. They charge $8 for a standard matinee, and $11 for a 3D matinee. That is extremely high for this area. When I lived in Pittsburgh, just a few months ago, all of the theaters had matinee pricing of $5 standard, $8 for 3D. You would think that due to the price of the tickets, the concession prices would be a little more reasonable. They are not - better sneak in your own goodies. Limited movie selections, over-priced....and certainly nothing to get excited about. read more

We love movies. Correction, we LOVE movies. And we don't go to the movies anymore unless we're going to Zeus. Some of the things we like the most about Zeus are: Comfortable Chairs. Never underestimate the value of comfortable chairs at a theater. You're going to plop your butt down for a few hours, so you better make sure you're comfy. At Zeus, you will be. Stadium Seating. True, nobody builds a theater anymore without stadium seating, but given the fact that there are other (terrible) local options that don't have stadium seating, it's worth noting that Zeus does. Friendly Staff. Follow Zeus Theaters on Facebook for any length of time and you'll see the pride the owner takes in maintaining a friendly staff. The kids he hires love their jobs and it shows. Friendly Owner. When do you get to meet the owner of the theater you're spending your money in? Never, unless it's locally owned, like Zeus is. More often than not, you will meet or see the owner and he's always busy making sure the guests are having the best experience possible. Midnight Showings. Not only is the owner friendly, he's also passionate about movies. He's so passionate that he has midnight releases on a VERY regular basis, much more so than other theaters. Limited Intro/Previews. Who enjoys showing up at a good time to get a good seat then being forced to watch a dozen previews? Nobody. And that's why you won't get that at Zeus. Small intro with three previews and you're movie is on. I've never been to a theater that had a commitment to getting you the movie you paid to see as quickly as is reasonably possible. Closed Captioning. I don't have a need for it, but the fact that they offer a closed captioning system is just plain awesome. An Owner That Cares. As I alluded to before, the owner of Zeus cares deeply about both movies and the theater. He's constantly on Facebook giving and receiving feedback. And he's not someone who will suck up to "those customers" (you know the ones I'm talking about) just to make sure he's making EVERYBODY 100% happy. No, he does what is reasonable and if you have unreasonable expectations, he's happy to let you know that you have other options and you can take your money elsewhere. It's not an ego. It's the truth. He's just not willing to break his back for one person when he's so focused on providing the best experience to the masses and I appreciate and respect that. read more

Loved this theater! We live in Cville, but since there are no decent theaters in town, we decided to try this theater to see (now, don't laugh!) Titanic in 3D for my birthday :) We saw a 4 PM showing, and since it was 3D, it was $11/person - definitely reasonable. But here's the kicker...they have a $5 small popcorn and soda combo! I have NEVER seen prices that low for movie food! I was SOLD. The theater itself (we were in a larger auditorium) was very nice - clean, comfortable seats and excellent projection quality. Staff was friendly and parking was easy...can't ask for more! read more

He even spoke to us (everyone in the theater) before one of the movies, Hunger Games I think. I'm also going to say complimentary things about this theater. I'm giving it 4 stars rather than 5 because this is not the absolute best theater I'd been in anywhere, but, for the area, it's really outstanding. It easily is better than all of the theaters in Charlottesville (and, having lived there for several years, I'd watched movies at all of them multiple times). The Paramount does have a great deal of elegance and historical atmosphere to it, but, technically, the movie projection system there (when they show films) is not in the same class. Zeus really has no rivals in quality in central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, except for perhaps in one Harrisonburg venue. You'd need to drive to D.C. or Richmond for a better theater, basically. Everything said previously is true: excellent quality digital screens and audio, very comfortable stadium seating with unobstructed views, relatively affordable snacks (compared to other area movie theaters' costs), friendly and energetic staff (quite youthful in age overall), closed captioning for some films if you need it, clean facilities and safe. I've watched half a dozen films here (not a very high number, although I wish I could attend more often), and, when you catch "blockbuster" type films on opening week, you have large screens, 3-D effects (when the films are in 3-D), Dolby sound and all of the niceties. My young son enjoys all of the 3-D in particular, and they seem to play flawlessly here. The owner obviously is a movie fan himself and cares about the movie-going experience his customers have. You don't get "artsy" or independent films here, but that's not the purpose of the Zeus. It's all about the "popcorn" films and the blockbusters--pure entertainment. So, if you like fun action, superhero, science fiction, horror, or romantic films, this is your "go to" place in the Valley. read more

The hubby and I are movie buffs, and we prefer this theater over others in the area. Comfortable and roomy seating for patrons, accommodating staff, and an overall cleanliness makes for a great experience. The theaters have stadium seating, which is just plain awesome! I can rock in my chair (because they do that) knowing I won't have to look around someone's head to see the screen. On several occasions the owner was at the theater, casually chatting with patrons. I first saw him when, before a movie started, he stood up and introduced himself to the audience and thanked us for coming. On Valentine's Day he handed out roses to the ladies. This is a man who cares about his business! They have a wide selection of movies to choose from, with the option of 3D viewing if applicable. If needed, closed caption is also available - I find this option to be very considerate. For years my father has refused to enter a movie theater, finding them to be sticky, loud, and uncomfortable. I was stunned to hear he started taking mom to movies . . . but only at Zeus. read more

The experience is usually hit or miss. The last two times the screening room was full of loud disrespectful gaggles of teenagers. There was actually a laser pointer being used. I alerted one of the workers but it did not seem to make a difference. One could over look the extremely outrageous price if the underwhelming concessions, if you actually got to enjoy the film. Shhhhhhh, don't tell anybody, but this is the best theater around. There is plenty of parking right outside, the individual theaters are comfortable, the bathrooms have plenty of stalls, and it rarely feels too crowded. As an independent theater, it offers a mix of films on multiple screens. Zeus sits by itself, so while there aren't shopping or restaurant opportunities right there, there's no congestion or difficulty finding a parking space either. read more

They even had a souvenir store but it looks like that closed. So if it's so good why only 4 stars you ask? That's an easy one.. Movie selection. They tend to have more of the "action" genre. I like this theater for the most part. It's clean, the seats are comfortable, the prices aren't outrageous. The only reason I will avoid this theater in the future is the assigned seating. We saw a movie last night and had to choose the seats before entering the theater. It was only 25% full but we couldn't choose seats that left a gap between us and the people down the row. It gave us no flexibility for moving away from loud people or finding a better seat. They said we could move to an empty seat but if someone came in and demanded their seat, we would have to surrender it. I understand the reason for trying it; it makes sure that the seats are used as efficiently as possible. That's fine. I choose to frequent a theater that gives me more options. If they decide to forego this practice, I will return. read more

Nice clean theater. Prices are better than Regal Cinemas at $10.50 a movie with no discounts. They also have matinees which is nice since the Harrisonburg Regal doesn't. Theater rooms are smaller but still feature stadium seating and good surround sound. Leather seats that recline but are not as nice as AMC or Regal. Food prices are always high like any other theater. Overall we like it better than any other theater in the valley. read more

Got two tix together in the front row that I picked at checkout. Went in and seats were taken. Attendant starts checking everyone's tix and actually said nobody is in their right seat. Says they can't make everybody move. There were no other two seats available. We drove 20 miles and had to get a refund. Won't be going back until they stop assigned seating. I was overjoyed when Zeus came to Waynesboro. We had been so long without a decent theatre (although there are some great 'oldies' in Staunton) that most in the area had given up home. And when I stepped into Zeus the first time . . . all I can say is we were impressed. And now that it's been open for a while, I have to say, I'm still impressed. The staff (mostly teens, even) is incredibly well trained to handle everything from a packed house, line jumpers to speed cleaning. They're always courteous and as quick as possible, whether giving you tickets or foods or 3D glasses. My sons have attended several midnight showings of movies and enjoyed them, as well. They even have a shop with all kinds of movie goodies -- T-shirts, cardboard cutouts, Lego sets, posters, etc. I honestly do not have anything negative to say about Zeus. 5 Star, 1st Class theater all the way! Love the comfortable, roomy and stadium style seating. A very tall fellow can wear in a "10 gallon" cowboy hat...no problem wih seeing the screen here!
