I really wanted to like my lunch. It was our first time trying Zhang Garden. The Hunan Chicken was so bad I didn't finish it. The white rice was fine. It was the blandest Chinese food I have ever had !!! Something was very off with it. Hubby had General Tso's chicken and the chicken itself was OK. Absolutely terrible experience. The customer service was beyond awful. From the second we walked in, the staff acted like customers were an inconvenience. No welcoming attitude, no basic courtesy, and absolutely no effort to make the experience enjoyable. I've had better service at places where nobody even knows what customer service means. The attitude here was ridiculous. We came to spend our money, not to be treated like we were asking for a favor. This is supposed to be a Chinese restaurant, but the service was so bad that I wouldn't come back even if the food were free. There are plenty of other Chinese restaurants that actually know how to treat their customers. Do yourself a favor: skip this place. 3.5. A solid choice in Hillsborough. There are few Chinese restaurants locally and this is the best option here. Very good service. They are grown and fast. The person in line before me was a regular and the cashier already knew his order before coming to the counter. My order was accurate and the price was fair, especially when comparing similar restaurants in Durham. I really liked the Egg drop soup and steamed dumplings. Oh my Lord my husband and I have never had such bland Chinese food in our life! Literally EVERY dish we ordered. We ate less than half before throwing it all in the trash. I've never done that before in my life with Chinese food. I've exclusively gone to hole-in-the-wall establishments, so it's not like I'm eating this after only having upscale Chinese. Take out was par for the course in the area. We had wonton soup that were filled with lots of wontons, also egg rolls were good everything was hot and ready to eat. Love this place. It's the best "bad" (but actually good) chinese food in the area in my opinion. Fried chicken wings are really good - grab a few hot sauce packets which make it tastier. Sesame chicken, shrimp with garlic sauce, and beef lo mean all solid. Egg rolls are decent. We try and get take out once a month or so. read more

I just had the worst customer experience I have ever experienced. My sister called in the order to Zhang Garden. I wanted the Shanghai noodles, but with a little less spice because in the past it was too hot to eat. I got home and the noodles were naked. I called Zhang Garden and the person on the phone apologized and said come back and we will make a new order. Got there and the owner (I think) said they would not make me another order, that they did put spice on in it and said I could bring back what I took home and they would season it. He then said that it was my sister that called the order in wrong or I didn't know what she ordered. He refused to make me a replacement, basically called me an idiot and didn't care that his business made the mistake. read more

We live in the area and frequently eat at Zhang Garden. The staff is friendly. The place is simple. The menu is broad. I sometimes eat in but usually we do take out and they're fast and I can't recall ever having an order be wrong. My favorite is the Singapore Noodles extra spicy. read more

As take-out chinese goes, this is as good as they come for this area. The staff are all from Fu-jian province and very friendly. The dishes are tasty - although mostly catering towards Americanized Chinese tastes. My favorite dish is the Singapore Mei-Fun which is quite tasty since they use lots of shrimp and lots of curry powder. The lunch specials are dirt cheap - in the $4 range. read more

Like other reviews, I'm giving it 5 stars for being the best in Hillsborough. Their sauces are all tasty and the ingredients are fresh. The prices are reasonable and good size portions. I've mostly tried stir fry dishes - nothing deep fried first. That way I can tell what kind of meat I'm eating! And the meat is good quality. read more

Just really a solid Asian / take-out restaurant. The food is very tasty and is not the super poor quality you can get with some take-out places. More than anything, this place is awesome because of the stellar service. I haven't been to many take-out places, or any restaurant really, where the people working there are so accommodating. I'm not a picky eater, but I like a lot of add on's, etc. and not once have they ever complained or made me feel like I was even slightly inconveniencing them. They also never make you feel like they're just trying to get you out of their restaurant, whether you pick up or sit down. Food is also very reasonably priced. I live near them so order for convenience. My orders are usually just OK with an occasional good to very good one. I usually have spicy chicken and broccoli which tends to be mediocre at best and often bland and uninteresting so I've learned that it's best to sample before leaving so they can fix it if needed, which it often is and even then is just OK. This restaurant is hard to find. I might has missed it without google maps repeatedly telling me that I had arrived. My party ordered takeout for four from the lunch menu.
