Not sure how old the interior photos are on their Yelp reviews but looks better in person. Dude running the place was waiting on tables, answering the phones, taking orders at the front, bossing people around in the back and bringing the food out of the kitchen and serving it HOT! He was a one man show today and killing it! Plus he was so nice. About the food. I ordered an Eggroll and Curry Chicken with fried rice. The eggroll was not the best I've had but it was good. It tasted fresh and no signs of the red pork that you sometimes get (thumbs up).The Curry Chicken sauce was really good. The chicken was nice and tender, the vegetables were fresh and crisp. My only complaint would be to not serve green peppers with the yellow curry sauce. It's my own personal preference because peppers give me heartburn. I will go back for sure to try some other dishes and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for relaxing ambiance and fresh, delicious Chinese cuisine. read more

Ordered takeout from Gourmet China for the family and it was a hit. The menu is huge and includes cold noodles, which you don't see very often around Greensboro. We didn't order them this time, but they're definitely on the list for a future visit. Everything we did get was packed with flavor. The crab rangoons and pork dumplings arrived hot and fresh, and the Dan Dan noodles, orange chicken, chicken chow fun, and garlic beef were all very tasty. One of the biggest positives here is consistency of flavor, something that's been surprisingly hard to find with a lot of Chinese takeout spots we've tried in the area. The only real miss for us is that egg foo young isn't on the menu, which my wife loves and always hopes to find. So when I had the chance to grab lunch, I was all over it! This spot has housed at least 4 Chinese restaurants, but none had seen the success of this operation. It is a family operation, as most Chinese restaurants in the USA are. This place is very much like New Sichuan in Winston, in fact I don't know which is better, they are both consistently great! We grabbed a nice array of dishes to go as we had several mouths to feed. I hardly EVER use Yelp to vent because I don't like to harm business's reputations But this was the most disrespectful employee I've ever experienced as a doordash driver. I had to pick up 2 orders, first one was from taco bell (which took awhile too) I finally got it and came to Gourmet China. I sat there for 12-13 minutes before I started to get impatient. I was late to both customers at that point. I stood up to wait at the counter which I usually do when it's taking awhile but the guy said "sir, please sit down, that's not gonna make it come any faster" like I'm 4 years old! I read some reviews here and we sought this location out on Battleground/ New Garden near Trader Joe's around 3 p.m. We got Spring rolls and I got the Mongolian Beef and my wife got Sweet and Sour chicken. The General Tso chicken is more like just breaded chicken with sweet and sour sauce with added chili flakes, it's not crispy with the heavy sauce on it, which usually, a General Tso's Chicken is very crispy and the sauce looks more brown - this was red looking. The best Chinese food we've had in NC. We ordered dumplings, spring rolls and crab rangoons for apps. The sauce with the dumplings was tart, fresh and delicious. The crab rangoons are the best I've had in NC and the kind I have missed since moving south (10 years ago). We shared General Tso's and sesame chicken. So I've been to this spot under the old Chen's name - but like Zac G., I wanted cold sesame noodles. The only spot I found was in Burlington - and I am not making another run there! The redone space is very cozy and I would sit down for a meal here. The service is super polite and on point. So to the Sichuan Noodles... the Cold Sesame Noodles you find in so many Northeast Chinese Takeaway places is just a variation on Sichuan noodles and Dan Dan Noodles. Most use a mix of Sesame Paste and Peanut Butter or ground peanuts - but the dish rarely has whole peanuts. This one did, and they use more of a mei fun noodle (think angel hair pasta) than thicker lo mein noodles (spaghetti sized egg noodles). That made a big difference too. For the dine in experience, the young guys working there are friendly but they were definitely rushing us. The business was steady but there weren't people waiting for a table. We were asked if we were ready to order 3 times in the first 5 minutes of sitting down. Then the entrees came out before we even had the appetizers and soups we ordered. Solid spot for some authentic Chinese/Sichuan dishes. (Also still has the American Chinese dishes for some people..). Good overall and has been consistent throughout the years. Food is fresh and I appreciate the traditional dishes they offer and how they actually taste...Chinese. The spice level on some dishes aren't as spicy as say a New Sichuan but overall still good flavor. There was much more seating pre-Covid days and the limited seating became apparent quick - as the dining room filled up and MANY patrons waiting at the door. My only main gripe would be the service. You get good service and what you need when you do but often you have to call on them yourself to come by. Hands down, Gourmet China is my all time favorite Chinese restaurant in Greensboro. The food is authentic, not just your standard Americanized Chinese food... I order take out and delivery from here at least once a month. When they are closed, (mainly Tuesdays), I am forced to try other restaurants to see if they match up, but they never do. As for the food, I have some main go to entrees I like to order, but due my recent experiences of trying new restaurants, I have been encouraged to try new dishes at GC rather than just my go tos. This time we tried the sesame chicken in place of the usual orange chicken and the kung pao chicken in place of my diced spicy chicken. Both new dishes were delicious and we have added them to our go tos when ordering from here! Also portion size is huge, I usually have enough leftover for one or two more meals... Bonus! The spring roll lacked any real flavor. The wonton in the wonton soup was really good, but the broth had an odd aftertaste. My favorite was the moo goo gai pan. The sauce was just the right amount with everything mixed together. It was a lot of food so I had another serving the next day. Honestly, the moo goo gai pan tasted even better as leftovers (which is not a bad thing). The cashier was very friendly. During my decade-plus living in Greensboro, I was always on the hunt for cold sesame noodles, yet it never occurred to me to check out Gourmet China (a casualty, perhaps, of their proximity to Giacomo's and Melt, but I digress). The Sichuan cold noodles offered here aren't an exact match - the sauce is thinner and tangier - but they are pretty damn satisfying in their own right. At $10 (sans protein), they aren't cheap, but it's a commendable portion for the money. Given that I popped in briefly during an off-hour for takeout, I'm hesitant to say yay or nay on the whole Gourmet China experience. I will say that the cold noodles were tasty and fulfilled a craving and that there are enough tantalizing authentic Sichuan dishes (more so dan dan noodles and cumin lamb - I'll pass on the intestine) to inspire a potential return. read more

A fun fact about me is that I spent 7 years of my life, ages 11-18 in China, and lemme tell you.... My life's goal is find authentic Chinese cuisine here in the triad. This spot meets those expectations. The pork soup dumplings were incredibly flavorful snd offered that perfect "pop" of soup in your mouth. The sweet soy sauce that accompanied it was a great addition. Eggs and tomatoes is my favorite authentic dish. It wasn't on the menu but the kitchen made it special for us. Favorite Asian restaurant in Greensboro!! Hands down best Sichuan options and they offer chow fun (or wide thick noodle) which is hard to come by! They're located near Trader Joe's & Golds gym off battleground in a strip with their own parking lot. Tonight my parents and I ordered takeout which it was their first time having the food and they loved it!! I would consider them pretty picky when it comes to good Asian cuisine considering their military background and being stationed in San Fran, Hawaii and even Korea. They loved it!! The hot & sour soup was perfectly spicy and tangy! Came with the good crunch noodle chips too! My mom got the beef & broccoli which the beef was extremely tender and broccoli cooked to perfection! My dad got the chicken chow fun noodles - he ate them all! Which their serving sizes are pretty hefty but he enjoyed them so much. And I tried their Sichuan chicken which had a little spice and just the right dose of Chinese 5 - SO DELICIOUS! Chicken was all fresh white meat and it was filled with fresh vegetables (onion, broccoli, mushroom, snow peas, green peppers & carrots) in a spicy brown sauce. We also shared their pork soup dumplings which came with a sweet dipping sauce (sort of a teriyaki flavor - very good but sweet), the pork and broth in the dumplings honestly tasted great on their own!
