This review revolves solely around the selling of my vinyl records. First, I walk in and the clerk just tells me to set me records down, she never takes my name, nothing. I go back to check on them 10 minutes later only to be asked "Oh, did anyone check you in?". Ummm ... nope! Then I get checked in and proceeded to wait ANOTHER 46 minutes for them to price out less than 10 records!!! I mean seriously? WTF? And not only that, the offer was 1/3rd what was previously offered to me by Revolver Records. F' this place! read more

There's something soothing to me about stepping into a place like Zia. You step through the doors and instantly you are taken away to a place where people have dumped off music that isn't their taste anymore which is just fine because that is exactly where your music tastes are now. It's like an older brother or sister is passing along their old tastes to you except Zia is the middle man. I could look through used music for hours on end but luckily this location is so well organized you don't need to. The staff is fantastic. I love to be greeted right away and they never disappoint at this location. I do wish their merchandise got changed over more frequently though. I feel like every time I go there the middle tables have all the same stuff on them. Overall Zia is a great place to pick up a CD that will fit the mood you are in right now. Love this place! My boyfriend and I drove around all of Tempe trying to find a shop like this and it turned out this place was right next to his house and we never knew!! They have a huge selection of funko pops, games, records, and other collectable items so it was super fun to look around at everything they had in stock. read more

This is the closest location to my house, otherwise I might frequent the Thunderbird location more. Something about the seedy characters, and jumbled organization that adds to the record store experience. I don't know. The Mill location is a very clean, well organized store, with very friendly customer service. If they don't have something in stock, they will call around to other locations to locate it for you. As usual, they have bins and bins of books on sale. 5 books for $2?? Yes please! DVDs priced similarly too. Now you may be thinking, aw big deal, a bunch of generic movies and books that have been sitting there for a year that no one wants. Well, you are good to be skeptical kemo sabe. I actually had to come to Zia's on a daily basis recently and I found that they refresh their selection quite often, and you can actually find many recognizable movies and books. Also, they have a pretty good selection of Criterion Collection movies (however, not on sale but you can use the 20% coupon you get by signing up on their website). Also, a great place to come for those last minute, "aw what the hell do I buy for so and so's birthday??!" You can find books, movies, and music for one, but also pop culture items, and those oh so important toupee headphones. You can also get custom screened t-shirts printed here that I don't believe I have seen at any other Zia's. read more

This is a new location for Zia's on South Mill and Southern in Tempe AZ. The store is about 10,000 Square feet. There is a vast amount of music all used and new mixed. I found a few treasures that I was looking for and some surprises as well. I spent about 80 dollars and came out with a large amount of stuff. The sales staff there is very nice and always willing to help. Very upbeat atmosphere. The cashier that checked me out was really cool, and treated me like I was an old friend. It's closer to home and I will be returning on a regular basis. read more

Their movie section has portion that is just Criterion movies. For that alone I was jazzed. Their movies are all priced at very fair prices. Making it competitive to renting movies via Amazon. They have great sales too. The used musical instrument selection was good, albeit it a tad overpriced but they aren't banking their income on instruments. I'm sure they'll find a sucker to overpay. The LTD Eclipse I saw used is roughly the same price I had gotten mine from a small shop in Seattle for a new one with a case, stand, and decent amp (Fender Princeton 112). No difference. Same pick ups and all. If you have something more newly pressed in mind for records, record store day finds, or the occasional compilation this is a great resource. Perfect for someone getting their toes wet. For myself I'm happier at Double Nickel Collective record wise but that won't ever stop this fiend from thumbing through. read more

I tried to buy 4 original Xbox games from here. The games were shrink-wrapped so I couldn't check the discs. And then when I tried to play the games, 3 of them didn't work at all (the 4th did, miraculously). I went to return the games, and they refused to refund them. The manager tried to downplay it saying they shouldn't have been accepted and that she wouldn't have accepted them in the condition they were in and that they can check the discs if you ask (like it matters now), etc. Basically, every excuse she could come up with to keep my money. She refused to give an actual reason why they couldn't refund me, and gave nothing resembling an apology for selling me non-functioning games. She made it very clear that they care more about any small amount of money than actually keeping loyal customers happy. Of course, they wouldn't give me anything other than a gift card (so i can get more defective games, naturally). And just to add insult to injury, they wouldn't even put the tax on the gift card, because I guess they hadn't ripped me off quite enough yet. So in conclusion, they sold me 3 defective Xbox games that they did not check, got to keep the money, got to keep the games (they might even just sell them again) and wouldn't even give me the full amount on a gift card. And on top of that, they also tried to charge me an extra $5 for an "accessory" that I didn't buy (but I got that refunded before I left the first time). Why would you ever want to buy anything from a store that behaves this way? I really hope that $30 they got to keep was worth it, because I'm never buying anything from there again after this. No one else should, either. I just wanted to play my video games. read more

Wow, what can I say. My six-year old and I enjoy collecting star wars toys and old school video games. Never disappointed, now my son is into Pokemon cards. If you know anything about Pokemon cards, you'll know they are expensive. Zia has them for half the price and you get twice as many cards. Also they have special cards you can purchase individually for pennies on the dollar. The staff are always helpful and cheerful. Truly appreciate you can waive the bags and donate to a local non-profit. Imagine if other companies did that! read more

Being a huge metalhead, this is the only place I can find new albums when my favorite bands release new music. Its a good feeling knowing that I can always count on Zia's to carry everything, especially since the big box stores like Best Buy and Wallyworld have been shrinking their CD selection to just the poppy crap that sells nowadays. We go here all the time...even driving several hours to visit this location in Phoenix; my husband is a radio DJ and has an extensive music collection. After being on the road for 3 hours, this was our fist stop in Phoenix. When I asked for the restroom, I was told that I needed to go to Subway. I said that I am not shopping at Subway and am not a Subway customer. Hey said, "oh, they are chill about it," as if that made it ok. I asked someone else, same answer, "no." Wow!! I couldn't believe it!! Seriously? For someone that spends thousands of dollars at this place and they cannot allow the courtesy of using the bathroom? We were visiting Phoenix from Seattle a few weeks ago for a concert and decided to beat the heat and visit the local record shops. Zia was amazing! I wish our stores here in Seattle were even half as good as this place. My fiance found so many things he has been searching for endlessly here and they were just out in the open at this store. I love record stores. I used to have a descent selection of records in the past, but had to give them away when I moved to Arizona and had no room on the moving truck. My dad used to collect records and had over 2000 mostly from the 50's-80's (hopefully still at my stepmother's house). I used to enjoy just rummaging around and digging through crates with him. I also like movies, games, odd collectible items, and shirts. Guess what? This place has all of that. A nice selection of music on CD, tons of LP, even some cassette and 8 track tapes. They have video games - from PS4 and Xbox to Nintendo and Atari. They have shirts, they have toys, and they have musical equipment and turntables. Immaculate service. I had a somewhat oddball cd request that, while they had in stock, was not in it's proper place. The guy helping me searched high and low, was really friendly and outgoing, and even enlisted the help of other employees. He made it feel like I was the only employee in the store, and like finding this cd was his life goal, it was wonderful. After, sadly, not being able to locate it he made some calls and arranged to have his friend stop by the Chandler location and bring their copy of the cd over to this store. Dang. Zia has been and always will be my go-to place for movies, weird knickknacks and music. The new location is a complete upgrade as it's located where the old Pets Inc. was at back in the day. It's spacious, clean and easy to lose track of time in. I'm glad to see the shopping center is looking more lively due to the addition of this local gem. If you're looking for a CD or DVD that's hard to find and you want it now...Zia is your spot in PHX area. I've met a lot of cool employees and sometimes we exchange films/music to watch/listen to, it's really nerdy but in an awesome way. They've always got semi-decent to really good music playing and a huge selection of cult films, foreign films and used DVD's at a very reasonable price. Overall it is a great little spot, used to be even smaller and I'll admit that I liked it that way a little more. However, it's still a lot better than most places. WARNING: Don't pay attention to the "one" guy or girl hat works there (Because there's always one) and pretends to know what they're talking about. I'm not sure how you got hired, but stop telling people that The Warrior or lawless are the best films you've ever seen. I mean really,..how many cliche's can you fit into 2 predictable films?? ....ok,..Now that's out of my system. read more

Zia is one of my favorite shops and I can definitely say I've spent LOTS of money there because of all the great things they have! I've bought many vinyls, cds, movies, books and little knick nacks when I visit and they have a very wide range of music, I never fail to find the bands I'm looking for even if they're not well known! There are always very kind workers and I've only had 1 or 2 run ins with a rude employee, but for how long i've been going and how often I go that's a very low number. I highly recommend Zia for any of your music, movie, literature and unique merch interest. You will not regret a visit here! read more

Been coming here for years. Although I can easily steal music online for free, or listen through prime I love to support my local shops. Literally just bought a used cd from them went straight to the car and gave it a listen. It won't play, and they refused to give me my money back although it was purchased literally 2 minutes before.
