One of the least friendly Ace store I've ever used. Staff acts like they are doing you a favor by servicing you.

Have lived in Huntley and been a patron of this Ace for 28 years. While I have seen an ebb and flow with quality of service, overall it has been good. One has to remember it is the convenience store of hardware, and the prices reflect that fact. Expect to pay full retail, sometimes plus 50%. With that in mind, I seldom leave there without what I came in for - even if it seems I often take their last one. This is why you pay more here, they really must have a challenge keeping up with the one off items on the shelf. Sometimes I find the staff helpful, especially to find something, but being in the trades for 38 years I really don't expect a kid making minimum to answer... pretty much anything. The older guy that works there had a pretty good knowledge base though. The lunacy during COVID (rushing up to me to mask, said it was "mandated" which at the time was inaccurate - nobody else in the store, invaded my 6' space to be an ass) did not miss this store, which almost made me never come back - but I got over that and am again in the store a couple times a week. read more

I bought a Toro snowblower from this location. My choices where Lowes, some home and garden shop in Crystal Lake or here. They filed out the warranty card for me, the employee helped me get it into my truck, and a few days later I received a thank you letter from David Ziegler for buying local. I've bought plumbing parts from here and other items and I will continue to do so. read more

I keep giving Ace chances to keep my business but my frustrations continue. I went in today for a propane tank exchange. I carried the empty tank in to which a female cashier advised me to carry it to the back of the store and a clerk will give me a full tank to carry out myself. I politely told her I was not going to do that and requested someone take my tank and replace it. I paid and a clerk brought the replacement up and handed it to me. No one even offered to put it in the car for me. Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man except here. Frustrating! read more

Ever have one of those days where it takes all of the day to figure out what you need only to find out the store is closing in 10 minutes. Welcome to my life . I worked on a project and then figured out the solution but the product i needed was suppose to be in an office or big box. Nope. Ran from store to store and did google searches. I saw it was available at ace but not in a store in the suburb where i was. But, it was available close to my home at Ziegler Ace in Huntley. I called, they checked stock, the app was right. But i was 30 minutes away and they closed in 10. No problem said Lucy. Order on the app and we will fulfill the order and stash it outside the store for you to pick up. Can't be. Someone willing to stay past closing , fill my order ? just for me. Yep, Lucy even called just to verify order was correct and I would pick it up in the location she appointed. What a difference time makes....So I visited 3 months ago, they were great. Very helpful. Well I came home and the glass insert to my storm door was damaged, so I called them asking if they replace it. "Steve" at Ace said they did and just to bring in the frame. Once in the store, Steve seemed to busy to help so I was given to someone that "knows all about this" and he went to his computer trying to find "window glass replacement". Mind you I am standing there and correcting when he looks up the wrong item. I said it is glass for a storm door insert (I have the insert with me). So then he says he will call someone that knows about it... I hear him asking if the other place replaces "sliding door glass", when I chimed in "It is glass for a storm door insert!". Well, of course he knew asking the sliding door question would get him the "no" he wanted so they could say they didn't do it. Of course, no one else would help as stocking or standing at the front is MORE important than customer service. I let them know I would not return and was told to "Have a nice day" (we all know what that was). Don't bother looking for Ace's "friendly knowledgeable service" you will NOT find it here. read more

Love the idea a small neighborhood hardware store close by, but had such a poor experience I won't go back. I wanted to purchase something in the locked glass case - which took people to access - then when it was scanned at the register the price was more than it was labeled - the cashier asked for the supervisor who seemed flustered and annoyed at having to be bothered - and he said - oh yeah that is mislabeled - I said well it in your case and there are more of the same labeled - sooo I asked can I purchase for the price you have there as this sounds like an internal issue to me - and he said he could not let it go for that price - no apology or greeting when he came up - just like who cares and no - I'm wondering what the policy is - most stores give you the item at the priced marked and fix things on their end - If they don't care about customer service and good customer relations - I'm out and did not purchase the item there - I will go anywhere else and even pay more because it was principal and management should have been better - pricing its merchandise and making sure customers feel like that had a good experience in their store. read more

Went here to rent a carpet shampoo machine. Male worker gave a very impatient quick demo, and cashier had difficulty answering questions. Upon return-"you didn't do 1,2,&3 but when I returned the machine and repeated asked for help....no answers!!! What a scam. Lost my $10.00 deposit. I should have gone to Home depot where I can count on them being reputable!! Live and learn. read more

I went in to look for a couple different things (which they didn't have), but as I'm standing in an aisle browsing I hear an elderly woman talking to an associate about electrical circuit breakers, she mentioned to the associate that her husband was an electrical engineer, and I overhear another customer and a separate associate at the key counter talking about the woman and why her husband would send a woman to pick up the breaker instead of him, they proceed to make comments about her and the associate made the comment " We have been getting stupid customers all day long". Then they went on to talk of other customers of the day that weren't as educated at these "geniouses". read more
