Had bought all the pieces for a closet organizer with the help of a lovely young man at the Fox Lake store. He was so helpful and put all the pieces together for ease and helped me get it all in my car. I had purchased 21 shelf 'arms' at about $7 each. Today when the handyman did the installation, it turned out i paid for 21 but the young man had only put 20 in the box. As i needed to go to a place near the Woodstock store - i went there to address the missing piece and return a few other things. Return guy was nice but said id have to talk to the GM about the missing piece. GM told me that since it was from a different menard's he could not pull up camera footage to verify my purchase nor do an inventory check and that he could not do anything. What? i had brought a picture of my completed closet showing i was clearly missing one piece. My receipt showed i purchased the 21 i needed. Too bad he told me - no proof. i ended up buying the extra one. I was stunned. I called the Fox Lake store - explained the situation and she promptly refunded my money without needing to check inventory / check video footage etc. Kudos fox lake - shame on the woodstock store. read more

I frequently visit their garden department, buy furnace filters, cleaning products, seasonal decorative items, sprinklers. You can find so much. The employees are friendly and helpful. You have to live the selection here, plus the always on 11% rebate is pretty great... as long as you're vigilant and actually submit. We normally go to the Crystal Lake location, but this one had the cabinet pulls I needed. I docked a few stars because the person at the return counter was short and impatient. The process for retuning an online order was more complex than it needed to be and the clerk was obviously not trained on the Menards app. The app does not keep an invoice of your order? I had to go into my email to find a receipt that she could use. Then the clerk made the strangest comment... apparently there is a kiosk where you can print receipt if you lose it, and the clerk said I could go there next time if I couldn't find my receipt. Call me crazy, but if there's a customer-use kiosk that can print receipts by looking up my info, shouldn't that same functionality be available at the register where returns are processed? Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I've never had a problem like this at the Depot. read more

Though I never remember to mail in the rebate, I do appreciate this store and the staff that works here. The store is pretty well organized - and even though it is a HUGE store, it's very simple to navigate (or find an associate to ask for the location of a specific item as needed). I love this store. I am always looking for the 11% rebate days. My biggest complaint is the staff. Not friendly and not kid friendly. Meaning I have yet to go there without hearing workers cussing and dropping F bombs left and right. I have even heard it in the presence of management. Don't go out to the yard... it gets worse. Lastly the return process for yard returns is crazy. You park and go in the front of the store. Wait the line at returns. Fill out a special form. Then walk to your vehicle with an associate. Then you get a signed paper. Drive to the yard and unload. They sign your paper. Drive back to the front, park again. Go back to the return counter for your refund. Oh wait you still need the right one meaning you simply ordered the wrong one... now you have to go to the back and order it, come to the front to pay then go back to the yard to load your new item...crazy. I gave them a coupel hundred dollars business on my recent visit. When I went to the check out lane and tried to put some stuff in a bag, the guy at checkout rudely told me don't take bags unless you want to pay 10 cents per bag. I understood this is a requirement of Woodstock township and not Menards. Two things. Even if this is true, why can't Menards Woodstock take care of this for customers who give them so much business? A million dollar company cannot pay a few dollars per day for bags? Second, in my opinion, this rule is outright stupid. The intent of the rule makers may have been good to discourage bag use, but you dont charge for a 10 cent bag when customers are giving you thousands of dollars in business. You will lose valuable business as this is a question of what is proper and not about ten cents. Next time I will NOT give Woodstock my business but will instead drive 15 min to Crystal Lake where there is no such stupid rule. read more

Best customer service ever!! I recently had a great experience with a cashier at Menards. I had a very complicated problem during checkout and the cashier called over the supervisor to help. The second I look lost, there is someone there to send me on my way. If they don't have something in stock, they are always looking it up to see if its at another store. Never had a problem here. In 2017, I had a deck added to my home (you will recall the pictures). The deck was installed by a licensed contractor. We had a building permit and the building inspector for the village came out three times to inspect and signed off in August of 2017. In March of this year, after the snow melted, I noticed some warping of the boards. The rings around the banisters busted. The railings are now off-center. My contractor purchased the materials from Menards, so I went to them to start the warranty claims process. The materials are made at Midwest Manufacturing Co, a Menards-associated plant. Fast forward to 11/11/21, after mult emails that included pictures, Midwest Manufacturing is stating they do not see the warping and the broken rings are normal wear and tear. (This deck is 4 years old!) Their stance is that the contractor installed it wrong (he has done mult decks here and everyone I have reached out to told me they have had no issues with their decks). The issue, per both the contractor and myself, is faulty product, not improper installation. There is a great amount of detail I am leaving out in terms of the back and fourth emails with Louise Fox from Midwest Manufacturing and myself.. The bottom line and learning lesson is: NEVER BUY HOME IMPROVEMENT MATERIALS BY MENARDS. THEY DO NO STAND BY THEIR WARRANTY!!! read more

When building a chicken shelter for a friend in Bull Valley, I passed through here a few times more. Great friendly service, big smiles... really there to help; a much different staff experience from the last few times I was here. They stocked roofing in lots of types; Oduro rubber, metal sheets, corrugated fiberglass, polycarbonate... and Menards seems to be the only big box store to reliably do so. But I come back here for the staff, the service and the handsome smiles. Oh... and the hardware, of course... but that you can get lots of places. read more

Save big money at Menard's...Not really, I always seem to take a hit when I stop here. But maybe that's just me. They do usually have some decent deals at Menard's though and as far as plants and such for landscaping they're WAY cheaper than Home Depot. read more

Worked there for two years the managers are very rude to the employees and don't care about worker safety

I purchased a spiral stair case special order had to wait a little over a month to come in. I had to call the store to see if it was there they never called me. when I picked it up there were three boxes they put on my truck and they told me that was it so I took it home left it in the boxes till my contractor was ready to put them in. I was able to bring the boxes in by myself and at the time I was 7 months pregnant. we were finally ready to put the stairs in when we opened the boxes to see we were missing the entire center pole and all the steps. i called Menards right away, they couldn't even look it up if I didn't have the receipt the guy said you would have been SOL. I gave them all the information and told them the situation they told me everything was picked up the same day. he told me there was a very big box that weighs almost 500lbs. I would not have been able to lift a 500lb box. They told me I should Have opened the boxes but when they were being loaded I asked the guy if that was all of it he said yes. When I was going through the front gate I asked that guy if that was all of it and had him check the paperwork he said yes. I was very confident in knowing two employees checked to make sure I had everything. with that confidence i had peace of mind I then put them to the side so the guys working on the house had room to keep working. When we got to open the box I was so excited to see these beautiful stairs I ordered. I almost fell over when I saw two steps a railing nothing else. I just wanted the rest of the stairs so I could continue my project I now have the Only three boxes, I'm so upset the manager said oh well that's your problem I'm not giving you a refund. I can't believe how rude and mean he was I wasent asking for anything I didn't pay for those stairs were $3000 I'm not rich it took me a long time to get the money for this project and now I'm out that money and I cant finish my project. Very attentive and friendly employees. I came in to get replacement parts for our swing set and was asked right away if I needed help. Jon (I think that was his name) even went and got me the correct bolts, nuts and washers I needed since I'm clueless in that department. My husband and I went to get some pricing on carpet. After looking around for a while someone finally asked us if we needed help. We sat down talked to this employee and he told us that Medards would come out and measure for our carpet. We gave him our information and he printed out a piece of paper for us. When I asked what it was for, he replied we would need to pay to have them come out. OK, we thought about it and decided we didn't want to pay that and then left. For 2 weeks several people from the carpet department kept calling at all hours asking about scheduling and the need to pay for this estimate. Each time I made it very clear that we were no longer interested. It wasn't until I contacted the store manager that the harassing calls stopped. Really do you need to call someone about a carpet estimate at 7am or at 9pm multiple times. I am never going back. read more

dont let your kid work here. they will screw your kid over. my daughter got fired due to a point system. she got docked for a night i needed her to help me with the a family emergency and they knew it was a family emergency. on top of that when she was first hired they screwed up her age and hired her at $10 but then realized that pay was for 18 and older so they took a dollar away. this place is not treat employees like family! i almost couldnt rent a carpet cleaning cuz my address was out of town. how stupid is that!!!!!!! i had to use my daughters id for a stupid carpet cleaner!!!! read more

Normally I enjoy the store in my area but this store make you feel like they are laying in wait for you. I don't need to be ambushed for ATT, Direct TV and lower electric bills. I said no thanks but that was not enough kept pushing other vendors. I can save you money ok I get it I said no please accept it. Then the push at the checkout for signing up for a Menards credit card by the cashier, no thanks again accept the no than you and just check me out.
