I checked Yelp and ordered from Hofherr Meat based on the stellar reviews. I often peek into Hofherr Meat when walking into Shred415 so was excited to finally try it! About 2 days before I was telling a friend where i got my turkey and she asked me how i plan to cook it. Cook it?? It literally had not occurred to me that my turkey would be raw. If it's not obvious from this review and ALL my restaurant reviews the kitchen is not where I shine. I called Hofherr to ask if they could cook my turkey and while apparently they do that it was too late to put in the request. Good to know for next time. Wednesday morning I joined the rest of the North Shore to pick up my raw turkey. I ran into a friend while waiting for it who is more of an expert when it comes to making turkeys and she asked them to give me gravy, a turkey bag (apparently easier and lessy messy to cook in a bag) and some directions. The next day I followed their directions along with some help from my bestie chatgpt. I stuck it in the oven and crossed my fingers we wouldn't be going without a turkey this thanksgsiving. We had a little mishap when the thermometer melted into the turkey (oops), but besides that it really wasn't too difficult of a process. And while I had trouble eating a turkey after seeing it raw my family was thrilled that it was perfectly moist and praised my turkey making skills. I did have a few bites and did think it was pretty good- and i dont even like turkey. I would definitely get my turkey from here again, although next time i'll be ordering a cooked turkey out of convenience. But for those of you who like to cook a turkey I recommend them!

I don't know why the meats at Joseph's are better than that at any grocery store.....but they are. We don't eat too much red meat but when we do, we get it at Joseph's. Always a smile and willingness to cut what we want the way we want it. Always a dinner delight.

Had I ordered from the place I usually have, I would have had to pay a shipping fee of $35 whether I had it shipped to my home or to the business. I hadn't heard of Joseph's before but decided to take a chance. I placed my order by phone the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and they took it with no problem, no extra charges; they also took the bone out for me. I was a bit nervous just because I hadn't tried this place before, and if there was a problem there wouldn't be much chance to fix it or easily switch gears. But I needn't have worried. While it would be helpful if they decided whether they were going to use numbers or just a line (I pulled a number upon entering, but they weren't advancing the numbers and instead just taking people who said they were next), I was in and out within ten minutes. The employees were helpful. Like many butchers, they have more than just the meat but it's not a grocery store (though I found I could have gotten the baguette that I made a separate stop to procure). The turkey breast I bought was at least half of what it would have cost at the place I've used in the past. With that kind of savings, paying their 4% credit card fee was fine by me (pay cash to save yourself the fee). Parking is easy; it's Dunning, not Lake View. Will definitely come back, possibly sooner than later since I've been wanting to try making a pot roast and I expect they'd have the right cut of beef for that. I won't bother with the butcher I used to go to with this one so nearby.

If you're new to the suburbs are new to the area this is where you go to get your poultry chicken, turkey, etc. type needs. It is so popular that during Thanksgiving, for example and all the holidays you can expect to see Glenview police helping to direct traffic into their tiny parking lot. What's great though about them is that you can call them and put in your orders ahead of time by actually speaking to a human being who takes your order and then come in and actually pick up your order from a real human being. This type of traditional business is something I really love and glad it still exists here in Glenview. Everything they sell here is top quality poultry, and this is the go to. They have everything you could possibly think of and will just about customize and meet any of your required needs. I hope they stay around for another hundred years or more because this is the way meat buying should be.

There is limited parking and we were able to secure the last open spot. When we walked in we were greeted by one of the butchers, while he was carving beef. The deli showcases a large variety of meats. There are also several freezers with packaged meats. We bought a few varieties. They have a diverse menu of sandwiches. Sandwiches were priced a bit high, but it they were high quality. I had their signature sandwich -the Franklin. It was recognized by Chicago Magazine as one of the city's best dishes. It was roasted turkey , sofrito aioli, cheddar, avocado, arugula, and pickled red onions on sourdough. It was a blend of flavors. My husband had the reuben . It was in house-prepared Brisket Corned Beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and a tangy Russian dressing. We had a side pasta salad and potato salad . There is indoor seating and almost all of the tables were taken. Prices are a but steep, but the quality was very good.
