Too expensive. Also, a 45 minute wait is crazy. You always have to wait here. I think they do it on purpose. It's a sandwich for Peter's sake. We had to wait outside in 90°heat. We are inside but it was like an Army mess hall. It cost me $60 and I had to pay to park too. So while it was chaotic and overwhelming, the workers would hand you a menu, explain the purchasing process and even give you requested samples! Due to trying a sample of their pretzel, I ended buying a bag. An $8 bag!!! It was perfectly crunchy and buttery and very good! I don't even like pretzels and these impressed me. Also got a $9 bag of only 5 palmier cookies. They were good but definitely a splurge. BF bought a small bottle of balsamic vinegar for $23, like wut?! I eyed a jar of salsa for $28 and jam for $16 but damn, everything was way above even farmer's market prices. The sandwiches start at $18 for a small and go to $24 for a large. BF and I got the chicken avocado on challah bread and a new crunchy pickle. Zingerman's does a good job with their pickles! Skins were a little too hard but I love that they're not overly pickled and still crunchy and not too much other seasoning. For $21, the sandwich was not very big and they don't include chips or fries. If I lived closer, heck yes I would come here pretty often to try a sample and buy a very expensive baked good. I have been going to Zingerman's since attending Michigan. It's a standard. Anytime I am back in Ann Arbor or even Detroit, I'll make the effort to go to Zingerman's. As of my most recent visit, I will pause before I make the effort. I ordered, as I always do, a corned beef on rye. This time, the bread was four times as much as the corned beef. Oswald's mile high was no mile. Perhaps Oswald needs to measure twice. The latke was soggy and greasy. The potato salad was brown and had a sell by date of July 4, but it was July 6. On our trip to Ann Arbor, we were told we MUST visit Zingerman's. It was good, but I think it was extremely expensive for what we received. If I wasn't on vacation, I never would have paid for a $30 sandwich, no matter how "organic", "farm fresh" it was. As a "side" I got a snack sized "Detroit BBQ" chips. These chips were the worst BBQ flavor I've ever had. It tasted like it was pure paprika powder. I don't know how you mess up BBQ chips, but Zingerman's did it. While this place is popular, I think it's extremely overrated and will not be back on our next Ann Arbor trip. read more

Sandwiches are absolutely delicious. They have iPads for ordering now, which is somewhat nice but the additions and substitutions are very confusing because you have to type it out instead of just adding/removing it. Zingerman's is definitely pricey and it can take awhile because it's almost always busy, but honestly I always end up feeling like it's worth it. My favorites are the Reuben, the Georgia Reuben, and Tarb's Tenacious Tenure. The latkes and knishes are also fantastic. There was a period where the bread was so sharp it felt like my mouth was getting cut up every time I ate there, which honestly became part of the experience. What an amazing experience for a deli! I'm in Ann Arbor quite a bit these days and I've yet to try Zingerman's Deli. We decided to order a carry out as we were heading to a Rally in the area. I love Reuben's and this one was piled high! The Jewish Rye was fantastic. They make their own Russian dressing, too. I ended up getting the small size, but it was HUGE! I paired it with a strawberry lemonade! This place is really cool and they have so many unique offerings. Trust me. order ahead as the lines were insane! I initially thought this was going to be a mom and pop shop, but it actually looked like you were stepping into a Trader Joe's. Everything was so vividly colored, and the people who worked there really knew their product. I got into a conversation with the bread man for like 10 minutes, talking about the different kinds of flour. The sandwich ordered was a little expensive at $22, but they do give you a nice decent proportion of turkey meat and it did come with avocado. My friend got the corned beef, which was pretty good, it was a little dry, but it also came with a thousand island sauce. The pickle was the best thing about the meal. It was lightly crispy, very well seasoned, not too spicy but absolutely delectable, I wish I would've known I should've paid the $.75 to get the other pickle. I'm not in the area as I live in Chicago, but if I'm ever back snowboarding, I would for sure. Make a stop here. read more

I was visiting Ann Arbor for a few days and everyone said that Zongerman's was a classic that I had to try. It's a cute deli and store that has tons of high quality oils, coffee, canned goods, meats and cheeses. The staff are super friendly and gave great recommendations on what to order. I ordered a #22 Jenny's fix and thought it was really great! The portion was very filling but a little expensive for a sandwich. I understand this is a great quality "farm to table" type of deli so I understand the higher price though. The "new" pickle was crisp,refreshing, and salty. We were on our way to Grand Rapids for a wedding, and were passing through Ann Arbor at lunchtime. After a quick Yelp search for a place to eat, I knew we had to try Zingerman's. Parking is very tight around this location, and we ended up finding a space several blocks away, but it was a short walk. They have a little shed set up outside with ordering kiosks that quite a few people were using. Being first time visitors though, we had some questions so we went inside. First and foremost, this location is a store! You can buy bread, deli meats, condiments, even cookbooks! You work your way through to the back of the store where you can place sandwich orders. Even inside you use the computer kiosks, but there are helpful employees there to answer all your questions. We asked about the size of the sandwiches, and thank goodness we did! They are large, so we split one Italian sub, and that was more than enough for both of us. The bread that it comes on is so delicious, it just made the sandwich! The whole pickle was also a big surprise, but we gobbled it up as well. Zingerman's has an entire array of housemade sodas, and the vanilla cream soda was fabulous! Lots of seating inside, but being that it was a beautiful day we sat outside. We finally made it here. Busy, busy, busy! We arrived about 12:30 on a Wednesday. You have to put your own sandwich/lunch order in a kiosk then wait across the room for them to call you. Put in your cell # and you can find your seat outside and wait for your food there. You still have to come in and pick it up. The Sherman's Sure Choice Rueben was terrific. Corned Beef, Swiss, coleslaw and Russian dressing on Jewish Rye. Extra dressing was a tiny to-go container for a buck. Not at all worth it. The Matzo Ball soup was really Matzo Ball broth with a small, bland piece of matzo. Very disappointing lunch. The people are helpful in processing you through the confusion. They do have plenty of tables and seats, outside. I think it's hilarious of the kiosk to try and jam those who are not paying attention with an 18% tip when the customer is doing all of the work. I've been told that it's a rite of passage to visit Zingweman's deli. I must say, it is quite the experience! On a Saturday afternoon it was rather lively and busy. However, the folks working there were incredibly kind and helpful. We ordered our food on a kiosk that was easy to use and found a seat outside. The food: Fountain ginger ale- 4/5 it was so delicious and tasted homemade with real cane sugar Turkey sandwich with tomato and avocado spread- 4/5 - this sandwich is huge! Very fresh Mustard potato salad - 3/5 it was just okay, if you're used to homemade potato salad, this one tasted a bit manufactured. Overall, I'm glad I was able to experience Zingerman's. Zingerman's Delicatessen has been on my must try list for a while and I finally got to visit Ann Arbor last weekend and it was even better than I hoped! The food is phenomenal and my party tried a variety of things. We loved them all and I know there's so much more to try next time. Jenny's Fix was delicious but the Frank and Kathy's Half Italian Sub was our group's favorite. We also loved the garlic potato salad and the pickles. We were there on a very busy Saturday lunch and we got through the line quickly to order and there is ample seating upstairs. The workers were incredibly helpful and friendly! It's very fun inside and my nephew loved looking at all the murals. I loved that they have an elevator for people who prefer elevators over stairs or families with strollers. I'm not a big sandwich person, and the Georgia Reuben is honestly the best sandwich I've ever had! The balance is perfect. The slaw has a sweet-tangy flavor that adds umph without overpowering the sandwich. As someone who usually skips slaw, it's the perfect amount of crisp layered in so it complements everything instead of taking over. The bread is toasted to a perfect crisp on the outside while the inside is soft. The contrast between the crispy exterior and the soft, tasty interior holds me in the moment. Stopped over after my girlfriend's doctors appointment, this is a routine for her so was excited to try this place. Pulled pork sandwich was ok. Bread could have been slightly toasted but the sauce soaked right in by the end so I enjoyed those bites more. Girlfriend didn't like the texture combination of asparagus and mushrooms with cheese. Always my first stop in Ann Arbor. We stopped in straight from the airport to get items for dinner and snacks. It was not as crowded as usual because it was mid afternoon and not a meal time. A classic for a reason! Zingerman's is a staple in Ann Arbor and a must eat on every trip we make to visit family in MI. You can't go wrong here! The staff is ridiculously friendly and helpful, the shop and restaurant are consistently clean and inviting, and the food truly can't be beat. On our most recent trip we had Tarb's Tenacious Tenure (delectably delicious), Zingerman's Reuben (tender and tasty), and Lisa C.'s Boisterous Brisket (meaty and magical). We also got all three of their potato salads, a bowl of the matzo ball soup, both types of house made pickles, and the latkes. Everything was delicious! Tarb's Tenacious Tenure, old fashioned potato salad, and the traditional "old" pickle were the favorites of our group but basically everything we ordered received a "wow" or two from us! The shop downstairs had a bunch of interesting oils, bitters, cookbooks, and treats as well, along with a bon-a-fide deli counter serving up slices of meats, fresh bread, and some amazing looking cheeses! If you find yourself anywhere close to Ann Arbor, you've gotta stop by Zingerman's! Pro tip: the ordering situation may seem a bit intimidating, but the workers are incredibly friendly! We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and it was CROWDED. Probably the norm, I'm guessing. You order at a tablet and it's pretty easy to navigate. They do keep a few people posted there to assist with difficulties, special orders, etc. it is a really cool store inside and lots of stuff to ogle and buy if you're up to it. Seating is a bit tough. We had to go upstairs as it was way too cold to eat outside and you just have to grab the first seats you see or wait for people to leave (not really my thing). Went to the roadhouse last night, because my favorite place (Session Room) was closed. Decided to try the coffee burger with a coffee rub. It was the worst tasting burger I've ever had. For the $26+ price I would have expected a culinary delight. It tasted and looked (complete with coffee ground rub) like the sludge at the bottom of my garbage can. I've heard good things and was impressed by the large selection of vegetarian friendly options. I got a gemini rocks the house, it was pretty good. Very fresh ingredients. My one complaint is that it was insanely expensive, while I can understand the price from a fresh ingredients perspective what was interesting to me was the fact that the vegetarian options were nearly the same price as the meat options. I don't think that makes sense. However, the staff were friendly and very helpful, it was a packed day and the service was still quick with wait times accurately listed and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
