I was introduced to Izzy's quite a while ago, and really, it's the real deal! It's a hefty portion ( at least the way I order it lol) filled with meat, onions, peppers, gooey cheese, and GREAT bread (think chewy, a little crunchy, sopping up all that goodness)! Load that puppy up! It will be a messy, yummy, experience! It can get a little behind if it's rush time, so don't go expecting to get in and out in 10 min if it's lunchtime, but for a great eat, when you're not in a hurry, give it a whirl! read more

My favorite cheesesteaks used to be in New Jersey but now I can proudly say they are less than a mile from home! Izzy's is a home run hoagie shop, the cheesesteaks are always amazing, the service is friendly, and the prices are fair. I've been coming here for years for lunch but I always struggled to share this place with out of town visitors or even my husband because of the limited hours but now that they are open for dinner hours and more on the weekend we have been able to go more often! This hoagie shop is everything. This is one of the best local places you will find in Ann Arbor. It's family owned and serves up the best hoagies (or cheesesteak if you'd prefer) and they are my absolute favorite! I have been coming here since I was in high school, which was conveniently down the street. This is a small little shop so you would never expect much, but boy are you in for a treat. They pack the cheesesteaks with meat! The american cheese melts perfectly inside and the mushrooms added is a perfect touch. This is the best cheesesteak you will ever have, I swear by it. They also have the best sides! I always add my cheesesteak with fries with cheese and chili. You only really need a small portion because they are huge! Since moving here a few years ago with my Ann Arbor native husband I've heard nothing but amazing things about this place. I finally decided to try it today and surprise my husband with lunch. I knew he wanted the cheese steak since he's raved about it for years. I told the counter employee it was my first time there and asked her opinion on the Italian sub and she said it's really great and to give it a try. I also got a cup of lobster bisque. This was my sandwich, absolutely no flavor and they didn't even unroll the prepackaged meat/cheese slices. I had a bite of my husband's sandwich, and tbh... This place serves one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I have ever consumed. Keep in mind that I have had cheesesteaks at the big three in Philly, and this place deserves to be included in that group. In full disclosure, the best cheesesteak I ever had was at a small mom-and-pop Italian place in a western suburb of Philly, but that does not take away from Izzy's; they do a great job. The tuna salad with oregano is also a great sandwich. The fries are terrific, too. I suggest calling ahead to order because they get really busy at lunchtime, but if you have to wait; it is worth it. I was told of Izzy's by my nephew and he told me they had the best cheese steak hoagie in Ann Arbor. That was over eight months ago... finally had the opportunity to visit Izzy's. When you walk in, the place looks like an old fashion diner. They have printed menu on the counter, menu on the wall and selection of bottled drinks and chips. They also have fountain drinks. I looked at the menu for few minutes and decided to order the Cheese Steak Hoagie with mushrooms (extra $1), total cost $8 for 10 inch whole sub. As I was paying the cook brought out a fresh box of sliced beef. Had to wait about five minutes to get the hoagie. I had mine to go. While the meat was cooking, the cook placed the bread next to the meat as it cooked. The meat itself was not seasoned... The sub was very oily... wasn't sure if they used oil to cook the meat, but the bread was very soggy, but it still held the meat, cheese and the mushroom. Give Izzy's a try for yourself. read more

Now my motto is "honesty" and i have to be honest, this is probably one of the two or three best hoagies i done ever had and by far the best in the state of Michigan. Great value ( can get extra meat for only a $1 more and trust me, its a whole lot of meat), great hoagie, The red pepper relish is to die for, and the fries are some of the best in the area.
