Decided to take a last minute trip to Zion the week of Thanksgiving, and when we booked 2 weeks prior, were happily surprised when we saw that Zion Lodge had availability. We didn't have much in the way of expectations as the Lodge describes the room we booked as a "traditional motel style room". To our surprise, the room was actually much more than that. This is a very nice option to have if camping isn't your thing, or if the weather is just too cold/hot. Arrival - We arrived late after a long day of driving. The ladies at the desk were very friendly and got us checked in quickly and easily. They also took some time to explain some fo the history of the lodge, the other amenities in the area, and some helpful hints for activities over the next couple of days. Note that the main lodge building is separate from the rooms and cabins. There is a dedicated parking lot for the lodge guests, and if it's cold, you'll want to throw on your coat while getting your bags from the lot to the rooms (a short walk). The Room - Much more than a "traditional motel style room". The room was decorated in a rustic theme, giving it some charm. Our room featured two queen beds, a night stand, a relaxing chair with ottoman, large cabinet featuring a small refrigerator, recycling center (a nice touch at a National Park), and overall ample space for 3 people. Each room also features a patio/balcony for those in need of fresh air. The bathroom was basic, but easily served it's function with a tub/shower, heating lamp, and toilet. The animal tiling was a cute touch. The vanity was located outside of the shower/toilet room, which was nice for three people each doing their own thing. They also provided enivronmentally friendly toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash) for those without their own. The heater worked very well. The TV was an old tube design, but we weren't really interested in spending much time in front of it anyhow. Amenities - The building we were in (B building) also featured vending machines and a relaxing fire place area to unwind and dive into a book or play games. The main building offered games which could be checked out. Free wifi is included for a few devices. The main building features the gift shop, an activities desk, the restaurant (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), the cafe, water bottle filling stations, and a shuttle stop. Check Out - Easy process. When staying at the lodge it's the only game in town. The food is fair, but service uneven. We had a dinner, Tilapia for me, and a beans and rice dish for my partner. Both were decent and our waitress topnotch. Breakfast a standard buffet. Lunch was a madhouse and we rarely saw our waiter. Given the setup of the whole place it compares favorably with other National Park concessions. Since town is an easy 10 minutes away, the drive is worth it for better food options. When time is a factor this place will do nicely. read more

A hotel in a fantastic setting, with convenient access to hiking and spectacular views. "Motel rooms" (have tv) and "bungalows" (have gas fireplace) at about the same price. The restaurant is not very good at all, but convenient. For dinner, go in to town -- I prefer "Bit and Spur". read more

First impressions are sometimes, thankfully, not always correct. We arrived at the Zion Lodge after a full week touring the national parks. We arrived at 2:30, and when we approached the front desk, were advised that we would have to wait until 4:00. We then spent our time hanging around the lobby, perusing the gift shop, and having a late lunch at the snack bar. The place was very busy & crowd, which we thought was a little odd for a Friday, but assumed they were all in for a long weekend. The snack bar was crowded, and we were shocked by the prices - with everything about double what one might expect to pay for fast food ($7 for a cheese-burger?). We ate our meal at the outdoor eating area, which was filthy. Trash was strewn around the ground, the tables were dirty & sticky, and the garbage cans were overflowing - with patrons forced to place their garbage on the ledges around the cans. Flies were abundant, and when I complained to one of the food service workers, she looked at me like I had 2 heads. Several hours later, when we returned to the lodge, the garbage was still there. Finally, at 4, we checked in (actually at 3:50, since some employee checked in one of their friends early). We were told our western cabin wasn't ready, and we would have to wait. Finally, after about 30 minutes, our cabin was ready. When we arrived at the cabin, it was closed up tight, and as we entered, we smelled the distinct odor of urine. We called the front desk, and we were assigned to another cabin. The cabin was set up identically to the cabins we had at Bryce & Grand Canyon, but appeared newer, and had two sinks. The room was well appointed, and comfortable. The rest of our stay and the beautiful Zion valley, more than made up for the bad first impression. We had been warned about the Red Rock Cafe, but found that the food at dinner was okay - not great, but okay. Breakfast was very good - we elected the buffet (which we had also enjoyed at the other parks), and found that this buffet was far better than the others. All-in-all, the Zion Lodge was a good experience, despite our initial, first impressions. In balance, I would recommend the Zion Lodge, over staying at one of the hotels outside the park. The shuttle system, although quick and efficient, could be somewhat of an annoyance, taking a long time to get into the park and to the more popular attractions. We stayed 2 nights in late October 2011 in the motel rooms-Very nice beds- mission design with stained glass lamps decor- private balcony is nice- would recommend the 2nd floor if given a choice just for privacy. Great location smack in the middle of the canyon. Restaurant is good, not cheap but they have a monopoly so what are you going to do? There is a snack bar that serves coffee, sandwiches but we did not eat there. We did a have a beer in the beer garden which was fun. They have an internet kiosk- free when it works. There is a TV 'lounge/bar' in the restaurant which was useful on one occasion to watch Game 7 of the Series -go Cards- while we waited on our table! Many hikes are easily reached from here either on foot or by shuttle bus. If you stay at the lodge you can drive into the canyon as far as the lodge with a pass, which is required up til end of October, then you can drive anywhere without one. read more

Zion was the start of our trip to Grand Canyon. Both parks are majestic but Zion was by far our favorite. Stayed 1 night (Friday) in peak season and were lucky to get in on a cancellation last minute. Booking agent was helpful and shared some good information on the park. We had 4 in our room and expected basic, cramped, rustic accommodation but we were very pleasantly surprised. Our ground floor room was quiet, spacious and air conditioned. We loved the crisp linens, free wifi and nearby ice machine. It even had a TV and a small patio with 2 chairs. Biggest surprise was how welcoming and knowledgeable the staff were, they went out of their way to advise us on what to do/see to maximize our all too brief time at Zion. We hope to return for a more extended stay and would recommend the Lodge. read more

The lodge is all about convenience, not comfort. If you want comfort and value, stay in Springdale and ride the very efficient free shuttle into the park. We stayed in the lodge cabins. The cabins are very small, and rustic... furnished sparsely with two double beds, a chair, a desk, & a small gas fireplace. Walls are thin. Curtains are dusty. Showers run out of hot water so expect a cold shower or two. Other than the dusty curtains, the cabin interior looked clean, but we found a black widow had climbed into one of our shoes during the night that was left at the foot of the bed. Yikes! Xanterra, the company that has the contract with the National Park Service to run the lodge, has a VERY deceptive rate reservation policy. They only confirm the rate for the first night you stay at the lodge in your reservation. Other nights' reservation rates are subject to change and they don't inform you about those changes! My reservation confirmation letter said I was confirmed at $166/night. I was surprised to find at check-out that I was charged $174/night for each night beyond the first night. I complained and was told that it is park policy to only confirm the first night rate. The best part about staying at the lodge, is the convenience of stepping out the door and finding yourself in the majestic and beautiful canyon. The Zion Lodge restaurant serves mediocre food at inflated prices, but it has location, convenience and a monopoly (it is the only restaurant in the park.) I recommend riding the tram into Springdale for dinner. Several very nice restaurants can be found there. read more

Beautiful setting and location 5 star, clean and a craftsman style vintage feel. NO WIFI or cellar signal. Even computer in lobby has poor internet. Handicap accessible NOT HANDICAP FRIENDLY. Standard toilet height, short and close to wall (watchman hotel) grab bar in shower vertical not diagonal. Pricey$$$. read more

The cabin was nice but our fireplace wouldn't start in the morning. Not worth the price, the restaurant was way overpriced. But Zion is awesome and it's right in the middle so that certainly gives it some brownie points. read more

Not bad, but it could be better with a little work. On the plus side, it's right in the park, so you can set out very early for a long hike. Our room was fairly quiet, at least after most of the children went to bed. Maintenance was good, so everything was tidy and working. On the negative side, our room had a very strong smell of tobacco smoke. The entire lodge has the feel of being stuck in the '90s. The decor and fixtures seem to have come from that era. It could really use an update, although the real appeal is not the rooms themselves but the location. read more

I am so glad I was able to book this room when one opened up at the last minute. It was perfect. I love how the only cars that can come in are ones staying there so you don't have to search for a spot. I think visiting Zion would have been a pain if we didn't get a room in the park. It was really nice to have a central location for all the great locations in the park.The room was spacious and clean and we had a beautiful view on the back porch of a mountain ridge; too bad it was snowing and cloudy! read more

It's expensive for what you get, but it's worth it. Being in the middle of the park at a busy time of year saves a lot of time and frustration. Rooms are rustic and kind of like a slightly upgraded motel, but the views are amazing. You'll need a flashlight at night, for sure! We found it to be very quiet, even though all rooms were full when we stayed there. Make sure to spend some quality time on your patio to enjoy the views. I'd stay here again. So convenient to be deep into the park already while everyone else is struggling to find a parking spot at the visitor's center so they can shuttle in to the hiking spots. read more

We were there in mid-August and had lunch at the dinning room of the lodge. The waiter was young, eager, courteous and efficient. The hamburger (grass-fed beef) I ordered was the one of the best hamburgers I had. The yam fries were delicious. I also ordered a cherry pie which had no added sugar. It was just the fruit cherry and the crust. It was absolutely yummy! The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch sitting outside in open air and we lingered on. read more

Stayed here over Thanksgiving week in the Zion Lodge Western Cabins. It had 2 double beds, fireplace, bath room, and a "side room" with sink and hanging space. At night during the winter, the electric fireplace is the main source of heat. You can request a refrigerator for free. There are microwave ovens in the lobby of the 2 buildings (Watchman and Sentinel). It was very cold, but no snow on the ground. Food at Red Rock Grill -- dinner had a lot of variety. The bison meatloaf was juicy, pretty tasty. Breakfast buffet was just OK, not that great. The scrambled eggs were watery, sausages were not browned. They had pre-made omelettes which had a lot of liquidy cheese in them. Tasted a bit "off". read more

Obviously a beautiful location and the facilities were well kept. Our room had a nice balcony with a rocking chair and a gorgeous view. The accessibility to the park/trails from the lodge makes this worthwhile. The dining room was OK and the food sufficed, but I was disappointed that it was not very unique or special, just your usual fare. The cherry pie is excellent however. My biggest surprise was how stoic the staff here seemed. No one was unfriendly, but I never got the sense that they wanted to be there. No one went out of their way to help or engage with the guests. We had the opposite experience with the Xanterra staff at the Grand Canyon, so this was unexpected. You can't beat the location and views, just wished for more hospitality from Zion Lodge staff. read more

This is the only lodge in Zion nestled inside the park. If you are a lodge guest, you can drive upto the lodge; otherwise you need to take a 3.5 mile drive in the free shuttle from the visitor center at the entrance from Springdale. The shuttles are very frequent, but if you got young and uncontrollable children, then that could be a hassle. You still need to take the shuttle to get to the narrows, grotto and the hidden canyons, but the rides are shorter from the lodge. The lodge is quite spacious and has amazing views. The emerald pool trail is right across the street. The restaurant inside serves decent food for moderate price, and the staff is super-friendly (as opposed to the mediocre food and the horrible restaurant staff in Bryce canyon lodge). read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful, but the accommodations are severely overpriced. The rooms have an institutional feel, not comfortable at all. It's clean enough, but just not a nice place to stay for the price. If you absolutely need to stay in the park, this is the only option, but if you have a choice, there are much better options in Springdale. read more

This lodge is located in the beautiful scenery of Zion Canyon. The wooden lodges are comfortable and clean. They also come with a heater and a gas fireplace which is quite practical in the cold winter! read more

We were there in February and had a second floor suite. The room was beautiful, comfortable, relaxing. The bed and bathrooms were excellent. Keurig machine in the room. The views from our room were outstanding. What a beautiful place! read more

Loved this park. Amazing. Bucket list stuff--add it to yours right now. But do yourself a favor and book a hotel in Springdale instead of staying at this lodge. We came here straight from the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge, which was impeccably run and maintained and a real joy. This one...meh. Rooms are very tired, food is crazy expensive, especially at the snack bar, and the whole place is understaffed. Coffee and a few sandwiches at the snack bar took nearly half an hour to get at opening one morning because only one person was working (register and cooking--one person!). Lunch was a zoo. We bailed for dinner. If you're in the hotel part, your AC unit is going to cycle on and off, on and off all night long. And when it's on...freight trains have known to be quieter. So you're up every 20 minutes or so. All kinds of super when you're exhausted from a long hike through the beautiful mountains. Springdale, on the other hand, has several lovely hotels, fantastic restaurants, great scenery, and it's a five-minute free shuttle ride into the park. NPS, time to re-evaluate this contract. This lodge isn't up to par. read more

View...AWESOME! Ants in cabin....NOT SO AWESOME! When I called guest services to take care of the ants with a highway along our baseboard, on the walls and on the counter. They sent a porter with glass cleaner to pick them up. 20 minutes later the ants were back. Over the next 3 days of our stay my husband and I woke up every morning to ants all over. This was very unsettling. When we used to camp; I could "deal" with ants. When we stayed in a cheap motel; I could "deal" with ants. When we are paying $200.00 a night....there's no dealing with ants. The guest services department neither took care of the ants nor did they offer us anything to help compensate for our stay. read more

The only reason to stay at this lodge is the location to all the trails and amazing view. The room are nice and clean but the staff at the lodge are rude and don't seem to like their jobs. Management must be bad. The food is awful and overpriced. read more

Quite possibly the worst service I've ever received at a restaurant. The server could not have cared less about waiting our table. We were sat and it took 10 minutes to even get water, and that was because the bus boy walked by and asked us if we want some. When the server finally came around, he didn't introduce himself or even ask if we wanted anything else to drink. He took our orders and was totally impatient. After another 30 minutes we still didn't have our food and he didn't come to check on us or refill our drinks. He did do these things for the table behind us. The restaurant wasn't even full. The food was just okay. We asked for the check and he brought it without so much as the usual "thanks for coming in". He didn't actually say anything. We shared our experience with the floor manager. Absolutely terrible experience. There are other options around the park; any of them would be better than this place. read more

We loved this lodge. Our travel book almost steered us away from it saying walls were paper thin and food was bad. No such thing! This is our 5th National Park Lodge and one of our favorites. Another plus is only lodge guests can drive and park at the lodge avoiding congestion in other parts of the park. Do stay here if you can afford it. read more

Just returned from a long weekend trip to Zion. We stayed in the lodge motel rooms under the fall package which included a hot breakfast buffet for 2 each morning. 3 1/2 stars for the accomodations--beds were very comfy, heat lamp in bathroom (I love those), and tastefully decorated. The breakfast buffet in the lodge was also quite good, especially since it was included with the reasonably priced room rate. Everyone was very friendly. Extra 1/2 star for the location and awesomeness of Zion. $5/night crib rental. read more

My wife bought a pre-purchased room for one night which included a hot breakfast the next morning. We were placed in room 241, on the end, upstairs in Lodge B. Although the decor is nice, this room is located next to the solar water heater for the building. It's as if someone is standing outside and banging on the walls. This happens so frequently during the entire night that is makes sleeping virtually impossible. One thing to add, this room is also situated near an employee maintenance spot in which in the early morning hours they forget themselves and talk rather loudly and forget about all the guest sleeping nearby. DON'T STAY IN ROOM 241! After we explained what happened to the Front Desk, we were given a measly 20% discount. This is a very noisy hotel. Overall, the staff seems friendly, but not very service-oriented. The food at Red Rock Grill was above average. We probably won't ever stay here again, and that's a real shame. read more

We spent 1 night at the lodge and only 1 night in ZIon. If you are short on time staying at the lodge is the way to go. We were lucky and booked only a month in advance--the only option was a hotel room. The room was actually quite spacious with a nice balcony. We were in the Sentinel building on the first floor facing the canyon wall. It was very private-- we spent the evenings and mornings on the balcony and did not see many people. It was so relaxing to be able to take a nap or hang out on the balcony and get away from the craziness at the park. It was also nice to be able to drive in to the park--we had no issues finding a parking spot. The room is expensive, but really it was worth it to have those quiet mornings and evenings before the crowds descended. The room does have wifi and was very comfortable. Would definitely come back. If you have a choice, you might choose to get an upstairs room just to not hear people walking around, but really the place seemed deserted even though there was no vacancy. Also, if you did not book a year in advance, do check back--people do cancel. The booking website is pretty easy to use/check. Also, we forgot our red permit, but the ranger at the entrance gave us one once we told them what happened. Would imagine it is much more beneficial to stay at the lodge during the summer when the shuttles get kind of crazy. read more

Pricey but I say worth it to stay once here. It's great to wake up early and take a hike. Also great to have a good dinner and just sit in the park benches. Here's a little secret, deers come to eat the grass by the lobby after the trams stop running. There were about 10 deers all around the grassy area. Location is awesome. FYI no fridge or microwave. A remarkable National Park Lodge in one of the nation's greatest parks. Xanterra does a fantastic job running this property and is the perfect haven after a day of exploring in the park. The restaurant on site is fantastic--whether you are craving fine dining or a casual meal. The rooms are perfectly appointed for a lodge like this....not overdone in luxury, but not missing any of the comforts you would desire after a long day hiking and visiting the park. The lawn in front of the lodge is a sanctuary to just relax and absorb the beauty surrounding you. A remarkable place to stay in a truly remarkable landscape. read more

We stayed here for the view and ambience. We absolutely LOVED our stay (though we agree with previous post about pink sheets....eco-friendly/no bleach). We didn't find it to be too overpriced for the convienence it affords to not have to wait to get into the park to enjoy the quiet morning hike. We plan to go back to Zion and this will be the first reservation we make. read more

There was a mixup with two reservations I had made even though I had canceled one. So, when I arrived they said I had reservations for both a motel room AND a cabin. Preferring a fireplace (gas) in a cabin over a motel room with a TV, I got what I really wanted but was earlier told was not available. Fortunately they sorted out their mistake and I only got charged for the cabin. They apparently renovated the cabins in 2010 and they have nice southwestern rustic furniture and beautiful floors (Douglas Fir?). We really liked the "walk-in closet" opposite the bathroom because it gave extra shelf space for our stuff and a place for the coffee maker. It also had a sink which was handy even for just two people. See the photos added by "Robin C." Our cabin was one of four units in one building - each corner is one unit. So we shared one wall with one other unit and another wall with a second unit. Our unit would connect to another unit if each unit opened their connecting doors. We noticed that there was a spacer between the floor and the bottom of the connecting door. This was probably to cut down on noise between units. We barely heard either of our two neighbors and we were there for two nights. You certainly would not hear a neighbor if you had the air conditioner/heater on--and it was not unusually noisy. We didn't turn it on. Open windows, fresh park air with the low humidity and the ceiling fan were just fine for us. We used the gas fireplace for some heat during the cool nights. We think that maybe they added some sound proofing when they renovated the cabins since other reviews complained about hearing neighbors. Staying inside the park is more expensive than in Springdale. I don't know the cost difference. The convenience and time saving of being in the park was critical for our short stay. We only once waited as much as two minutes for the in-park buses. You have to transfer from the town buses to the in-park busses and I don't think the town buses run as frequently. We didn't eat in the Red Rock Gill because of the previous poor reviews and because Parallel 88 had such great reviews - well deserved to my experience. I talked to another couple and they said the food at the Red Rock Grill was quite good and that they had a nice bottle of wine that was of moderate cost. Maybe Xanterra has made some improvements in the restaurant. One review of a motel room, I think, complained about the noise and odor of diesel buses. Well, the park buses run on propane and are odorless and less noisy than most buses. There were three tour company buses but they offload their people and then parked. There are two motel buildings and the one closer to the busses is across a 400+ foot wide lawn from any of the buses so I don't see this as a problem. It is probably nicer to get a cabin or motel room that faces the east side of the canyon (the side closer to this facility) so that you can sit on your porch/balcony and look at the canyon as the sun sets. You have come a long way and spent significant money to get here. My advice is to spend the extra money to stay in the park and economize elsewhere if you need to. But from maybe April to October make your reservations when they open them (one year in advance) or your date will likely be booked. read more

In the summer, the location was key as it was much cooler in the canyon where the lodge is. Rooms were comfortable and the soup/salad bar at the red rock grill was decent. Mainly, the setting made it worth the price. read more

We stayed in one of the cabins at Zion Lodge and I was so impressed with the value, especially compared to accommodations in other national parks (Yosemite) where you're paying too much for a less than stellar bed in a beautiful location. Zion cabins were a wonderful surprise! Cute and cosy with a fire place and comfy beds with good linens. The breakfast buffet was ever better than I would have expected. A great base for exploring the park. read more

Our stay at the Zion Lodge was the highlight of the year. Springdale is a world away from the Lodge, and when the park closes at night, you are alone with the huge lawn and the silence and the grandeur of Zion--and the deer, who will walk right past your porch (all the rooms have porches) and onto the great lawn, where they graze in peace, unbothered by the guests. This place has a vibe that you can feel inside. The rooms are classic and beautiful and comfortable; they provide everything you need. The Red Rock Grill is fantastic; we ate there both nights. The first night I had the soup and salad bar; the second night I tried the quinoa loaf with garlic mashed potatoes; both choices were excellent. The staff is attentive, and if you have reservations, they will do their best to put you at a window table. My daughter had the chicken breast the first night and liked it so much that she ordered it again. Booking is tough; I must have hit "refresh" 200 times combined on my laptop and phone to find rooms on the dates we were there; I got a room with two beds on the first night and a king with a roll-away on the second, but the staff moved our luggage while we were hiking, and when the roll-away was not there when we got back from hiking on the second night, I called and it was there within 30 minutes. I would return at the first opportunity, and having the grounds to yourself at night just can't be beat. Stay here if you can! It's not more expensive than the good spots in Springdale, and even if it's $30 more, the location is amazing! Thank you, Zion Lodge staff, for a marvelous stay. read more
