Zmodo started as a good company but then they got greedy. When your cameras stop working they will hide your subscriptions from you so that you cannot cancel. When you finally reach a representative, they will tell you that you should have cancelled despite the fact it is impossible to cancel when the camera does not work and will not load to the app. They do not issue refunds and try to keep you subscribed. I bought a few security cameras from this company and all was well until the last camera was defective. I called & emailed about this issue thinking that the company would stand behind their product......they did NOT. They kept walking me through steps to fix it but it never fixed the problem. They just kept telling me it's a connection issue when clearly it's not . The camera literally is 6 feet from the modem. I have two other cameras that are 20 & 30 feet away that work fine. I never got a solution they never offered a replacement (even though I asked) and just left me with nothing but a broken camera. Used a security camera from this company when we would leave for vacations. Maybe by the 5th use the camera charging port broke within the unit. Contacted Zmodo to replace, they said I was past the warranty and refused to replace it. Said I could buy a new one. No thanks, was like one month past warranty. This company is an absolute scam. The old adage of "you get what you pay for" holds true here. DO NOT give them any money! Once they have your money they're done with you. DO NOT expect to receive any support! I purchased an all-in-one kit containing a DVR, 4 cameras and all the necessary wiring etc in March of 2014. After 2 weeks of use the pictures on my video feeds were filled with static bars so I contacted their support. They have 3 contact options: phone, live chat or email. I tried phone first. After waiting on hold for over an hour I got disconnected. Maybe it was a mistake so I tried again. Nope, after waiting forever I simply got disconnected again. OK so I tried the live chat. The message on their support page stated Live Chat was available so I got in the queue and waited for my turn. After an hour when it's finally my turn I get disconnected with the message stating Live Chat is not available at this time try again later. That's odd because I went right back to the support home page and Live Chat still showed as available and it let me join the queue all over again. Why would it let me join the queue again if it wasn't available? I went and did something else only to find that when my turn arrived I simply got disconnected all over again. So this left email as the only support option. I emailed them my problem and waited for a response. And I waited. And I waited some more. Finally after a week they replied. We went back and forth via email for a month, because they only reply like twice a week so it takes forever, before they agreed to let me send the DVR back for repair which I had to pay the shipping for as well. Another month goes by and I get the DVR back. The same one I sent them. It was supposed to be a replacement but I got the same one back that I sent them. The RMA status on their own website said it was a replacement. It was not. It even still had recorded footage from my home on it. They still tried to tell me it was a replacement. It was not. As soon as I plug it in it has the same static problem it had when I mailed it to them. As far as I could tell they did nothing at all except receive it, hold it for a month, and mail it back. So I immediately contacted them again. This time they don't reply to my emails and I'm forced to contact the BBB for help. The BBB gives them 3 weeks to reply and they never did so I contacted the BBB to complain and what did they do? They gave them another 2 weeks to reply. What a joke! Finally at the very end of the second time period Zmodo responds and I send the DVR back for repair a second time. Another month goes by and I receive the DVR back. This time they tell me it's a refurbished unit. A refurbished unit they send me for a brand new unit I bought that only worked for 2 weeks! What great support! This refurbished unit worked for two weeks before the bars of static came back again. So now I've emailed them again and I've been waiting for days so far with no response so I'm probably going to have to go through the BBB again. So since buying this "security" package back in March it's been broken or out for repair more than it's actually been in use. Other reviews on the BBB site state that this company purposefully takes their time in dealing with issues in order to chew through your warranty period and I wholeheartedly agree. No phone or chat option. Months to get anything done via email. Even took 5 weeks to reply to a BBB complaint. A few more months it was "out for repair". All to take as much time as possible so that the one year warranty will expire and you'll be left with nothing. And now here I am again with a system that doesn't work and waiting on them to reply to my mail because their phone and chat options do not work. I cannot stress this enough to everyone who has read to this point: DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY OF YOUR MONEY!!! read more

Very poor customer service. I purchased a ZMODO Greet from Amazon. The unit started failing. A very nice helpful tech immediately ordered a replacement. A new Greet was installed. Within 6 months the same issues began. In conversations with tech support, it was made clear there was a battery issue. A new RMA was issued to replace the new defective unit. Then nothing. I called ZMOTO was told the unit was not under warranty because it was purchased by an unauthorized dealer. I said, "you replaced the first one under warranty". They claimed that was a mistake,,,,,,,really?........ Long story short, a Supervisor made it clear that this last one...sent by ZMODO will not be replaced and that it was more important to ZMODO to NOT take care of a good customer than to repeatedly tell me it wasn't covered by a warranty and that I was just out of luck. Got the 8 camera system from them with the NVR. Only set up 4 cameras. Decided to add a few of the extra cameras to the system, as long as you follow their directions, it works great. And if you have an issue, I always email them, they get back to me usually pretty quickly depending on when I sent it in. Using the phone is just frustrating to me anyways. read more

Horrible customer service. They NEVER pick up the phone. Their online chat support does not work and even when you create an account, you can not find where to chat anymore after you have created an account to get help. I am exceedingly disappointed and I'll aspects of service from this company. I would give them zero Stars if I was able to. The customer service is deplorable at best when you're able to reach them. The supposed 24/7 online chat is absolutely useless as far as I'm concerned, I've had multiple issues with them not responding at all and when they do respond it is usually very delayed. I don't feel that the technicians are helpful and troubleshooting the equipment. The most upsetting thing to me is a tie for awful customer service, sub par equipment, and a hidden agenda in the terms and conditions. After a particularly horrible experience I bought these cameras hoping to add a little security in my home. I've had multiple issues the entire time, the most distressing of these being that the cameras will just disconnect from being online for no apparent reason, and even when they are online they miss quite a bit of activity that is perfectly in range. Since I was unaware of these problems, I signed up for the one year cloud service. After the problems began to arise and I was getting very little help from customer service, I attempted to cancel my contract asking for a prorated refund for the time I have not used. I spoke with managers three levels up for my initial call, and they became progressively more rude and disrespectful. The last person I spoke with told me that I agreed in the terms of service to a one-year contract and there was no way I could get out of this, and no way I could obtain any refund for time unused. When I asked to speak with her manager, she became extremely indignant telling me there is no one above her. Now I'm stuck with a useless product for another six months. I think that any company confident in their product and services would not hide these in the terms of conditions, which I admittedly did not read in full detail, and not offer any way out after multiple calls and complaints. I have worked in customer service for many years, and would be ashamed to have my name associated anywhere near this company. I suppose this is a lesson learned, I will now pay more attention to the terms and services that I agree to prior to signing. I would not recommend this product or company. I am much happier with the replacement cameras from SimpliSafe, who is extremely easy to reach and also very polite and easy to work with for the very minor issues I have had. read more

We purchased the Zmodo cameras and then my husband asked me to go ahead and get the one for the doorbell. It worked very good for a couple of months and then the brightness went dark as though it had no light feature. I called the company to replace it and was sent a email that it would be sent to us. When it did not come, my husband called the company and they very rudely told us they needed the doorbell back before they would send the new one as though they did not trust us. They said the return slip would be pre-paid, when I went to the UPS store it was not a prepaid I had to pay almost $12 to ship it back so who is actually not to be trusted. If you are considering a Zmodo I would reconsider and check out other companies this company's customer service is awful read more
