Walking distance from the Laughing Tap (just a block away), the Iron Horse Hotel, and my house is this bar with indoor and outdoor seating that hosts a variety of food trucks. On a weekend evening, Botanas and Casa de Alberto are packed tight with lengthy waits, but at Zocalo there's lots of outdoor seating in nice weather. At other places where food trucks gather, they are all Mexican cuisine, and here there's always one good Mexican truck and then other choices. Except when they are playing music, the place is child friendly, which of course I find to be a negative (both loud inappropriately explicit music and children). However, a random child did give me a pretty good tip on the pizza truck and maybe he should start YELPing. This is the perfect solution if you're out with a group of friends and you share the same sense of humor (we went to see Hari Kondabolu) but not the same taste in food (some like it bland). read more

I've been to the park twice now & have had bagels, horchata, and food at Bowl Cut (I live in Chicago or else I'd be here a LOT more!!), & everything I've had has not disappointed! I'm particularly a HUGE fan of the food truck BOWL CUT!! It's my go-to place! Delicious food & awesome, friendly, funny workers!! All the dishes I've ordered at Bowl Cut has been super yummy (I just ordered 4 dishes this last visit LOL almost the whole menu). I've had the KK rice bowl (my fave!) that has super juicy & tender ribeye, and the sweet heat wings are a top-seller--you can tell they make the glaze fresh & it's very flavorful! I've had the teriyaki chicken bowl that definitely has it's own unique zesty kick. The kimchi fried rice is a classic. I recommend adding extra meat or a fried egg to it! They just added pho to their menu & I'm a fan! Tastes great & good for cold nights to keep you warm while you hang out at the park/indoor bar area! i always make it a priority to visit Bowl Cut when I'm in MKE. Definitely recommend! I took advantage of some unseasonably warm weather to visit Zocalo with my parents over the weekend. Many Milwaukeeans did the same. There is a section with tables set up and Covid-era social distancing huts you can reserve for a fee. Then there's a building which houses the bar and some interior seating. On the other side are the food trucks. We split up and ordered from three different trucks. We did not orders through the app. My mom got fast service from the taco truck and good food. My dad had good food from the Dairyland truck, but a really long wait to get his food. I will say that his cheese curds were extraordinary. The batter is light and crispy and the ranch appears to be homemade. I ordered from the sushi truck and have reviewed it separately, but it was a good experience for me. We tried to use the app to order cocktails and couldn't get it to function correctly. My mom tried to order at the bar and the server was snooty about it. He said they had no menu available except on the app and acted like she was an idiot. Not cool, man. Eventually she ordeed some standard drinks from the bartender. The old fashioneds were good, but come on, Zocalo. Even during Covid you could tape a drink menu to the wall. I'll be back and will be better prepared next time. read more

Can't say enough great things about what ZÓCALO has to offer! First of all, their concept is to offer rotating food trucks year-round (more options during the warm months, essentially May through October). Some trucks (like Mazorca) will be available year-round. Their seating is structured to be largely outside and with the pandemic, they recently put up small greenhouses to offer patrons a safe and warm option during the colder months. In addition to outdoor seating, they have a small building right in the center that holds their bar and some additional seating. This really makes for a great food destination in Walker's Point for those that have competing taste buds within the family or for someone just not sure what they want until it's in front of them. They also order online ordering. They have done as much as they can to adapt to the pandemic, but honestly, a lot of what they offer was already thought of prior to it. There's a sign that hangs at the entrance of Zocalo that reads "Soy quien soy" - I am who I am. I'm not sure what the intention was when that sign was hung, but to me, it really sums up what Zocalo is all about. Anyone can come to Zocalo and find something to eat. There's something about a food truck park that is just so...great. You get restaurant quality food (or better, let's be honest) without the hassle of going to an actual restaurant. Zocalo has really created a space that is so welcoming that you can't help but feel excited just to be there. There are colorful picnic tables, cute patio lighting, and a Frida Kahlo-inspired tavern. In true midwestern fashion, Zocalo has even managed to create a park that operates in all weather, with heated outdoor "greenhouses" that you can sit in during the colder months. Of course, the shining stars of Zocalo are the trucks themselves. Zocalo offers a variety of food truck options - pizza, sushi, bagels, arepas, tacos, burgers, ice cream and more. Many of the food trucks offer gluten free and vegan options as well. Truly something for everyone! Ordering is so easy. You can, of course, walk up to the trucks and order in person. But they also have QR codes on the picnic tables so you can order right from your table. You can also order in advance on their website and pick it up when you arrive. The website it very user friendly and easy to navigate. I can't say enough good things about Zocalo. I only wish they had more locations around the city! What a fun spot to visit and get some good food! Found this place randomly as I was scrolling through Instagram and the concept of multiple food trucks, as well as a bar inside really piqued my interest. They have a great concept going with about 5-6 permanent food places and then what seems like a rotating business that is there a couple of weekends a month, from what I could guess. When I went I got both an Arepa from Venezuelan Arepas and a sushi roll from Madern Maki. I have never had an arepa before and honestly didn't know what it was. I asked the lady working at that business to explain it and she definitely sold me on it just by describing it. I had the chicken arepa with cheddar cheese, beans, and garlic salsa. It was so flavorful and delicious! As for the sushi, I had the Crunchy Munchy. It came with 6 pieces and was filling! Came with wasabi, ginger, and plenty of soy sauce! The person I was with had both a chicken and birria taco from Mazorca as well as one of the fried chicken sandwiches from Foxfire. He ate all his food so fast I didn't get a chance to taste for myself but he said all was very good! I finished the meal with a small glass of horchata from Mazorca and my only regret was not getting a large glass of it, and possibly another to enjoy later! This is definitely a place to check out, and even with COVID they are doing a great job with safety measures. You order everything on your phone and they simply text you when it's ready to pick up. There is plenty of seating outside. Furthermore, as I was there today they seemed to be building little tents around individual picnic tables to help shield from the chilly weather that's here's now. Spring through fall this is one of my go to spots. As someone who grew up in the area I love to see Walker's Point thriving. If you're with a groups of friends and you're not sure where to eat or what, Zocalo is the way to go. With several food truck options, you can work your way through many cuisines. I love to get arepas from Anytime Arepa and grab a drink at the bar. There's always somewhere to sit, upstairs, outside and inside. I enjoy that during the summer nights there's always something to do. While you enjoy your meal and drinks with friends, you can listen to live music, support local vendors and have a good time. I loved my visit to Zocalo with some friends and highly recommend it to everyone. We shared a shrimp roll, kimchi fries, tacos al pastor (fresh, warm handmade tortillas!!), horchata, a teriyaki chicken bowl, and a few flavors of ice cream. Everything was fantastic and it was hard to pick a favorite, but the kimchi fries from Fontelle's definitely stood out. The fries had great flavor on their own, but they were piled with kimchi and a creamy gochujang sauce. Even with all of that, the fries still retained their texture and we picked at it long after we were full - so good. The teriyaki chicken bowl from Bowl Cut was also delicious - the texture of the sticky rice was PERFECT and the meat had a great flavor. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a parking lot right next to it. I want to come earlier to catch the bagel truck (it was closed in the evening). I wonder what they will do in the colder months - I hope they'll still be open because there are so many more things I want to try. read more

The building with the bar inside was really nice as well with plenty of space to eat and drink. I decided on a shrimp roll from Fontelle's eatery which was filled with delicious a shrimp salad. It was jam packed with flavor on a toasted split bun! My friend went with an everything bagel with cheddar and green onion cream cheese from Ruby's bagels. She said it was perfect in every way. While I'll be missing the Mazorca taco truck on 1st and Pittsburgh, I'm glad to see it go to its "forever home" at Zócalo Food Park, a project developed by Mazorca owner Jesús Gonzalez and others. The open air concept is very inviting with plenty of tables. They have (non gender neutral but wheelchair accessible) bathrooms. But best of all... the variety of food trucks ranging from tacos to ice cream (both with vegan options), and Asian Bowls to burgers, with Fentelle's offering the Beyond Vegan burger as well. They have a bar on one end, and an area for bocce ball as you come in from 6th street. We were there for their opening fest and they had live Latin American music. It feels like a perfect place to hang out while eating delicious and affordable treats. Great for spending time with friends, family, or even for a cute first date! What an amazing concept! I went there the first weekday they opened. I was shocked it wasn't packed but give it time once word spreads. I was able to walk there from work so bonus points! I tried the Fontelle's burger without a bun. I wanted to get the brussel sprout salad but they were already sold out - next time. The burger was on point. I am hoping they expand options. I asked the bowl place if they would consider a low carb option with cauliflower rice and it seemed promising. Otherwise I will be back for the tacos. I absolutely adore this place. I remember going to mazorca taco truck for the first time two years ago. back when it was fondly known as the taco truck near the third ward with the really delicious and cheap tacos. And I remember thinking this year, what happened to them , I haven't seen that truck in forever. Little did I know that they would be creating this wonderful place called zocalo!! A friend and I came by to check out the place and it was so awesome to see !! We went earlier this year in the fall (this review is a bit late I'll be honest sorry) but we were pleased to see food trucks set up by this store front with lots of outdoor eating and games available. We sampled food from mazorca and fontelle's (the thats my jam and kimchi fries were incredible) and loved everything we ate !! We were sad we couldn't try the other food trucks- bowl cut, scratch ice cream or ruby's bagels while we were there. We had a handful of tacos from Mazorca and they were pretty good. The flavors were unique and I liked them quite a bit. My buddy also dug his. Al Pastor - Awesome! I liked the open outdoor seating and the food carts. I wish they had more food carts from the South Side. I wish they also did more to bring in a greater mix of Latino food carts considering there are so many out there working the less well traveled streets of Milwaukee from Lapham down to Oklahoma on the other side of the dividing line created by I94. A little taco competition would be a good thing at the Zocalo. Hope to see this concept expand out and I wonder how a food cart pod can do in a city that gets so cold you'd need 100 heat lamps to use outdoor space. As a native of the South side - where Walker's Point actually extends west past the make believe border created by the I94 freeway into "Walker's Square" - I was worried that the Latino aspects of this area would be wiped away with each new thing being built up. Zocalo blends the two tendencies quite nicely - new and creative, and yet not forgetting that this area has long been a main street for Latinos in Milwaukee. Zocalo and the tacos served here are showing just how gentrification and the Latino aspects of this community can live together in harmony. When I am back in MKE I am happy to see something that reminds me a bit of the food cart pods of PDX. To other folks just exploring the South Side - come on down to Zocalo but don't end your exploration there. There is seating available indoors and outdoors, so it's a perfect spot if you have a dog or want to enjoy fresh air. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food whether they got cold Asian noodles, tacos, burrito bowls, tortas, etc. The cheese curds are a must! Holy cow! I am never leaving. I didn't mind overpriced drinks or eating facing sixth street traffic because the food won me over. You had me at "arepa". I literally stopped and refused to move until I had one. Ten bucks and it's a full meal - thick lightly fried corn masa, filled with whatever meat you want and guacamole and my favorite slightly sweet plantains. That and a Brandy Old Fashioned Sweet or a Margarita with a crystallized lime on top that you can eat the peel and all? Ooh, HEAVEN! Love Zocalo! I've had a pleasant experience every time I've gone. I went last night and had never been inside to the bar area and wanted to scope it out before finalizing my review of the place. It seemed as though the staff didn't really want me to come in. I was greeted more on the rude side and seemingly side eyed/rushed out the door. Maybe they were just having an off day but it was off putting so I decided on no drinks and just got some food from the multiple trucks outside. We enjoyed a chicken sandwich from foxfire which was excellent. I paired it with some of their Brussels sprouts. Next, we headed over to Mazorca Taco where we enjoyed two birria tacos. They were flavored to perfection. We then grabbed an Arepa from Anytime Arepa. I must say, of the trucks there that spot is my absolute favorite. Check out their passion fruit drinks if you get a chance! Finally we ended out our tasting with desert from the DairyLand truck. We got a Carmel fudge brownie that I absolutely do not regret. The flavors start to finish were so rich and delightful. They do offer outside seating both for free on picnic tables and in little bubbles decorated in a Christmas theme. They're so cute, but are reserve only! I think you can reserve one of these on their website. Definitely a great idea. The vendors are amazing! Zocalo is awesome. I love that you can order food at one of the trucks and bring it in. The food options are tasty and not too pricey, and inside it's laidback. You could probably come here to hang out, read, work, etc. Or come with friends. This is truly a local start up. The owner worked hard and saved up to get this place up and running, and seems to embrace other local efforts in a desire to have them all come together in one place. Whether food, drinks, or events likes supporting local arts or things like yoga, they try to get people together. I think that's pretty cool and special! The only recommendation I have is that I came for yoga once and it was great - but the "free drink" was limited to items I would not choose. So I wish that there would have been a disclaimer that the free drink was restricted to beer and one other option. read more

I frequented Mazorca when it was on 1st and was alarmed to see it missing one day and then excited when I heard about Zocalo. As a frequent traveler to Mexico, the word "zocalo" evokes a great vibe for me... Of people sitting around eating nieve and tacos and burgers, placticando and enjoying a nice evening in the center of any number of Mexican towns. Milwaukee's Zocalo is in a great Walkers Point location and is a perfect place for a summer evening, especially when your crew can't decide what to eat. I definitely wonder how things will go in our eternal winter, but on a warm night with the sun setting, food options and a nice crowd, this place is perfect, a wonderful addition to Milwaukee... On our first trip I had some always great Mazorca tacos... ok yes they are expensive but you are eating handmade tortillas... (you don't know how special that is if you take it for granted.) Plus all their fillings are excellent... my son had a Fontelle's burger which was very good, and I ordered kimchi fries as well. There were empanadas that night at the rotating truck as well, and I look forward to. trying Bowl Cut on a future visit. A few mornings later I also stopped for coffee and a Ruby's bagel which was also a treat. I love the concept, the name, what it evokes, and what they are trying to do with this space. Zócalo Food Park is Milwaukee's first food truck park and a great addition to the Walker's Point Neighborhood. We visited on Saturday during the park's opening weekend and were impressed with the physical space, the delicious food selection, and the potential for community interaction. Zócalo is a repurposed lot on 6th Street that now hosts a diverse mix of food trucks, including Mazorca Tacos (whose owner came up with the idea for Zócalo), Fontelle's Eatery, Bowl Cut, Scratch Ice Cream, and Ruby's Bagels. When we arrived at 7:00 PM on opening weekend, Ruby's already was sold out for the day, but the other trucks still were busy serving customers. Food truck fare has improved dramatically from its early days of reheated "food-like" products. Today's food trucks often serve gourmet fare on par with higher-end restaurants and the trucks found at Zócalo reflect that culinary creativity. So if you have a family where every member wants to eat something different, Zócalo offers a great solution. For vegetarians, Zócalo includes lots of options. Mazorca serves both vegetarian and vegan tacos, Fontelle's has a vegetarian burger, Bowl Cut provides Asian rice bowls, and Scratch offers one or more vegan ice cream flavors. In addition to the food trucks, Zócalo has a bar, permanent restrooms​, and even a bocce ball court. The seating area is flexible with the ability to move and rearrange tables as needed. During the opening weekend, a performing area was cleared for a band. That flexibility hints at the many ways this space could be used as a community gathering place -- something the Zócalo owners have said is one intent of the food park. As fans of Mazorca Tacos in their previous location on 1st and Pittsburgh, we closely watched the news about the development of Zócalo Food Park over the last year. During trips to San Juan, Puerto Rico, we saw the launch and subsequent success​ of the Lote 23 urban food park on Avenida Juan Ponce de León. While similar to Lote 23, Zócalo Food Park feels like the next step in creating a neighborhood gathering place based on local food. Mazorca, hands down has the best tacos in the city. Not only that, but their service is always spot-on. I'm slightly disappointed they moved from their old spot, but only because it is a mile farther from my house now. I tried Bowlcut for the first time - which is Korean inspired and has a lot of amazing sounding dishes. Unfortunately, I ordered the wings and I think they were in the fryer about a year too long. Think Christmas Vacation dried out Turkey, munching on all the bones scene. Yikes. Thank goodness the bar was serving some Odell brews. Also featured is a bagel truck, which seems to sell out quickly. I'll be sure to come during my lunch in hopes to snag one of these guys. Praying they have a jalapeno cream cheese. Scratch is also a resident truck there - thank God. Their Door County Cherry ice cream may or may not have changed my life for the better, be sure to snag a cone of that. The ambiance of Zocalo is casual and sweet. Definitely a place where I'll be coming often with my friends. Walker's Point is already one of the best neighborhoods in Milwaukee, but it also went up a few more points with this amazing addition. A perfect little food truck park that hosts 5 permanent trucks and 3 that rotate out. The food ranges from empanadas to burgers to ice cream and vegan options. Live music after sunset & outdoor lawn games all day! They've only been open for a few weeks (at time of review) and will soon be opening their indoor bar/seating area. There's an outdoor bar as well. We can only speak for the burgers but they are hand press and delicious! A very easy going atmosphere for any time entertainment. Will definitely be back! read more

What a unique, hidden gem in Milwaukee! Zocalo boasts 6 different stands/permanent food trucks, all of which are fresh and fun. They have indoor seating (which is currently closed due to Covid), as well as a large patio with picnic tables. We sat out their with the dog-- they had dog treats and water bowls so it is very dog friendly!! The main building has a bar with reasonably priced drinks. We both had the Paloma (mine without the spiced rim) which were $8 each. The bartender was so sweet and friendly; I really enjoyed chatting with her! The entire Zocalo location was very conscious of staying socially distanced; there were markings of where to stand throughout. I highly recommend stopping by and exploring!! read more
