I first found ZogSports last season when, after a few beers, a friend convinced to me to join her football team. Being not exceptionally coordinated and unsure I would even enjoy football, I entered this world cautiously. Zog welcomed me with open arms. The league was filled with like-minded people who are out there to have a good time. The game was easy to pick up and so much more fun than I expected. Corsair Stadium in Santa Monica is such a beautiful field to play on, there is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon--how did I get so lucky to stumble on to this? The teams all gather at a sponsored bar after games, so this social aspect is a great way to meet people and drink for cheap! This league is a blast! I had soooooo much fun. It brought back a moment of my childhood that meant a lot to me. Unfortunately I was injured first game... however, Matt took great care of me and my membership with ZogSports. He was helpful through the entire process and very timely on getting back to me when it mattered most. Despite my injury, I HIGHLY recommend ZogSports (especially for soccer). ZogSports makes it easy to play sports, meet new people and give charity. Summer 2013 I signed up for volleyball. I was apprehensive at first because I was at the beginner level and a shy introverted person. The people I met were warm, friendly, supportive, helpful, competitive, and fun! After playing the first volleyball game, I was happy that I signed up. I made more friends and my skills improved. The team made playoffs. I couldn't have thought of a better way to spend my summer having fun with Zog and spending time with my boyfriend. Fall 2013 I signed up for more volleyball and added football. I was even more nervous about football because I had no idea what I was doing or if I could even catch a football. But with Zog, I knew I would have fun regardless and I surprised myself by being able to catch a football and eventually caught on to the rules. My brother signed up too. I think it brought us closer while having fun together. He just moved to the LA area and I thought it would be a great way for him to make new friends and play sports. He enjoys Zog too! Now I wish every weekend was a ZogSports Weekend. I love playing Volleyball and Football. It is also fun to get together with the team at the bar after the games. 2 years ago a good friend of mine asked me to join her football team. I thought she was crazy. I can't throw a football! I can't catch! I can't. I can't. Long story short... they were short a girl one day, so I reluctantly, very reluctantly, stepped in. My life has not been the same since. Zog has given me a community. I have an entire team of amazing friends. And it goes beyond our team. The people I see on the field, week after week, have all become friends. It's fun to be opponents on the field and then buddies at the bar and other events afterwards. Zog has given me an escape. Adulthood is full of responsibilities and to do lists and some really challenging times. Playing sports, even just once a week, let me put everything else aside, and jump in full heartedly. And with this group, it's not about who wins or loses, though trust me, winning is amazing. It's not about being a competitive jerk; it's about trying your best, supporting your team, playing the game, and giving high fives when it's over. Zog has divisions for different playing skills and interests. Zog has given me a new passion, skills and confidence. I've now played volleyball, softball, beach flag football and two-hand touch football. If there were more hours in a day, I would try soccer and basketball too! I am an actor, and was recently cast in a role where I had to play baseball. Thank you, Zog!! I hit a line drive on the first shot, and then got another one for safety. But more than that, it's been incredible to see, week after week, how I've improved. It's proof that if you just show up, and try, you will get better. I can. I can. I can throw a football. I have to say this company is truly awesome! They bring people together seamlessly and make it very easy to participate in adult sports after work. You can sign up alone, with friends or as a team and they'll organize the rest for you (schedule, games, tshirts...)! You can pick from a multitude of sports and levels. I was a complete beginner at kickball so I choose the casual league but played volleyball all my life so signed up for the competitive Vball league. It was a really fun time where you meet new people, play a fun sport and hang out afterwards. I highly recommend Zog Sports to anyone with a busy work life but needs an hour per week to play a team sport! read more

We're not bowling professionally here, and I get that, but that doesn't mean Zog shouldn't manage the league professionally. We played in the Santa Monica bowling league for 3 consecutive seasons, but this will be our last. The lanes at the bowling alley (Bowlmor) are terrible and the service is even worse. The league all of a sudden changed from 7:30 pm to 7 pm on a weekday, which continued to make those of us with commutes late all season long and also forced us to eat alley food every Wednesday. To top it all off, the alley has such a strict cut off time of 8:30, that multiple weeks, multiple teams wound up losing due to our lanes being shut off. Oh and did I mention how much time we lose fixing missing or fallen down pins, errors in scores, and waiting for shoes half the time since we don't get priority for check in? But you best believe they don't give us those 10 minutes on the back end. I understand that these complaints are the alley, but as Zog is who we pay and sign up with, they should be our voice in creating a fair and pleasurable experience for us. Another major complaint, they charge $600 a season per team, when in turn they allow only 2 games and 4 players max. Do the math, but that's a lot of money for not a lot of bowling time. If you DO win, and I do appreciate that they have a charitable component, don't expect your check for charity anytime soon. We just finished our third season (they're each 6-8 weeks long), and we just got our check for the last two seasons. Josh (one of the zog reps), was really the only helpful one. Oh but wait, a totally different rep shows up every week. They don't know the teams, they don't know the rules unless they read through the manual and most of all they're just unhelpful. And last but certainly not least, don't be surprised if the rules change without warning slash if they make no sense at all. You would think once you make it to playoffs you'd play with a clean slate, no handicaps. Not only is that not the case, but riddle me this, how does the 1st place team get a 30 point handicap over the 4th place team? We were just as confused. Overall I'm sad to say that though this is supposed to be a fun and friendly league, zog really took the fun out of it for us. Don't think we'll be coming back. read more

I have played with Zog for a few seasons now but won't be playing with them in the future. The organization is plagued with all the issues they apparently set out to rectify in forming the company. Scheduling is consistently screwed up (schedules shifted whole months), sign ups can be complete hit or miss (early sign up is no guarantee), and the facilities are lackluster at best. Safety and inconsistent rule application proved to be the death knell for me though. During my time playing with Zog, I witnessed broken bones, torn ACLs, large gashes, and more than a few other bumps and bruises. While injuries are always bound to happen in sports, the company's lack of requiring proper safety equipment and inconsistent rule application unnecessarily puts participant's safety at risk. As long as you sign your waiver they don't care though. The rule modifications they make in the name of "safety" are so significant that they take away from the fundamental aspects of the game, but then they don't consistently enforce the modifications or require the very basic safety equipment even little kids wear. Seems like a backwards way to do things to me... Update: Matt, do you mind elaborating on the new "stricter" safety policies Zog enacted? I honestly have no clue what you could be referring to. Funny that you mention shinguards for soccer because that is exactly the type of new stricter safety policy I would expect you to be referring to. Requiring players to wear shinguards, helmets, non-metal spikes, etc. follows the same logic we apply in other aspects of society such as laws regarding seatbelts, drunk driving, and not texting while we drive. Despite it being common sense, it is easy enough to provide that little extra motivation to stay safe. Just seems weird to draw the line at requiring something like shinguards. read more

I moved to LA back in January, and I signed up for a casual bowling league through ZogSports right before I came here. The Bowling league, which took place at Bowlmor in Santa Monica, was run extremely well. Props to Jordan and the rest of the ZogSports staff for running such a fun coed sports league. read more

I will keep this short and sweet..Zog made my Sundays a Friday. If you work a 9 to 5 like I do, I can't wait till Friday comes because I get to do things I want to do on MY TIME...Sundays, before I joined Zog was a drag because I had to return to work and do it all over again. Well for the past 3 years ZogSports has changed that. I not only look forward to Sundays because of the fun I have playing with my teammates, I also enjoy that it provides me great exercise with my cardio. I've played in ZOG coed football and softball leagues. The games are well organized and refereed by courteous staff. ZOG is a great way to make new friends all while contributing to charity. Leagues are separated into competitive divisions allowing both newbies and seasoned players to play and have fun. I especially recommend ZOG sports to anyone new to LA. read more

This is a good league. Compared to USLA, the ref. and the league in general really foster good sportsmanship and make sure there is a great experience for everyone. I've played in the soccer league for at least five seasons and have had a great experience each season. More than just having fun and meeting cool people, this league is well run with great managers. One of the great things about the league is that players have a voice - the organizers are responsive and listens to feedback from the players. I'm new to LA and was looking for an experience to help me meet new people outside of work and stay active. After searching around different adult softball leagues around the community, ZogSports was by far the best option. I love that there is a social aspect in addition to the games, and I think it's a great way to get connected. If you're new to LA or even the country, then ZogSports is for you! It's a fun and easy way to meet new people. I only wish I had found Zog two years ago when I first moved here. I play both football and softball. Neither of these sports do I have any experience in and yet I'm having a ton of fun at the games. It is completely acceptable to have no talent and zero knowledge of the game. Of course, there's appropriate divisions for those more serious players, but it very much caters for all levels. The thing I like most about Zog is how easy it is to join. In the past I've had to source an already existing team and find a way onto it. Zog is great because you can sign up as an individual and you are put onto a team. The shirts are made available for all players as part of your registration. So you all do is show up and play. The meetup at the bar after the game is a great way to get to know your teammates and opponents. Matt, who runs Zog, is extremely charming and will make every one of the Zog players feel welcome. If you are looking for a casual environment to play sport and get to know people, I encourge you to sign up for ZogSports. It's made quite a difference in my life here in LA. read more

I'm not gonna give this five stars because I'm not sure I would give anything five stars. However, that's just me. I think it should be known that my experience with zog thus far has been very good. I just finished my first season and felt as though the refs and Matt in particular were incredibly helpful when I approached them with something as a team captain. I really cannot sing Matt's praises enough. I bought a team and Matt helped me set it up every step of the way, he answered my phone calls in a timely fashion, gave me great advice on how to play in the league given that many of my team members had never played before. Took anything I brought to his attention under careful consideration, is respectful and I truly believe that he takes pride in the league and what he does, you can't fake that sort of thing. I'm definitely going back and I will be buying and Captaining a team again. I'm not much for drinking and what have you after the game, but I always felt more than welcome and encouraged to come hang out. The guy even answered my emails on a friday nights when most people are doing anything but that. I have a real respect for the organization and I hope to play for years to come. read more

ZogSports LA is great. I've been playing on teams in Zog for the past 3 years. I have done almost every sport at one time or another including football, beach and indoor volleyball, soccer, bowling, and softball. I have enjoyed myself every season and every sport. The Zog "team" makes sure to create an atmosphere that is fun and personable. I love playing sports but the reason I choose Zog over other leagues is that they've done a great job fostering an environment that helps people get to know each other. Whether it is the after game happy hours or end of the season parties there are several ways to meet people. I currently have a great group of friends that I met directly through Zogs beach volleyball happy hour. On top of great sports and great people the charitable aspect of Zog just makes it that much better. Part of the money you spend at the bar goes to charity and if you win or get 2nd place in your league you get to choose a charity to donate money to! Lastly, a special shout out to Caitlin. The go to person for all things Zog L.A. Anytime I've had questions or concerns regarding my team or the league, she has always made herself available. She is always upbeat and helpful and seems to genuinely care that everyone is having a great time! read more

Zog makes it easy to connect with others who want to participate in team sports. I've only every played Saturday beach volleyball but the experience has been impeccable! And playing for a cause definitely helps push us to place at the end of each season. Partnering with local bars who donate a portion of the proceeds each week also is neat. Couple of notes: - If your game is the first of the day, expect some delay as the refs set-up the courts. Unfortunately, this causes the third game (of beach vball) to be cut short and played to 15, but occasionally a ref will allow play to 21 if the game won't go too far past the hour. - Residents (who live in what might be one of the most visited tourist attractions in... the US? the world?) have complained about the sounds of the refs' whistles so sometimes there are mis-starts in serving if the server or ref isn't paying attention. read more

When I first moved to LA, I had nothing more than a dream, a pile of student debt, & a 28-oz Louisville Slugger Softball bat. I'd never learned to socialize, or to speak at all. Instead, I communicated in the only way I knew how- the language of softball. I found Zog Sports Softball League while searching through other words that start with Z (Zod, Zong, etc), and I was intrigued. I wanted to join a team, but I was afraid they wouldn't accept me. Ultimately, I did, and they did, and we did...incredible things together. Zog saved my life. Zog saved my parents life. Zog gave me hope when all other hope was lost. I'll never forget what the umpire said to me that first game: "you're out," as if to say, "you're out of the woods, you're out of your old life & into your new, you're out, & so are all of us, new friend." (In all seriousness, playing in these leagues is among the best things I've done in Los Angeles. The league is well run, the games are always fun, the people are always incredibly inviting. If you have a team for it, sign up. If you don't have the team, find them. If you don't know how to play softball, learn. I can't say enough good things about it.) read more

I always wanted to join a co-ed league in adulthood but was either shy about joining or didn't know where to start. Joining ZogSports was a completely spontaneous decision that I am so glad I made. Not only is their site intuitive and their organizers easy to reach, but I also met great friends in the process! My team has now been together for multiple seasons of indoor soccer and I don't know what I would do without our mid-week games. We all joined as free-agents and were put together on a random, rag-tag team so don't be afraid to sign up alone, you will have a great time regardless! read more

I'm just starting my touch football season, but I have to say that so far I'm having a blast with Zog! I'm on a team where only a few people knew each other before hand, and they are the nicest people who are just there to have a great time and play some football. I have been playing in Zog now for over a year. I started with playing Indoor Volleyball after being asked by a friend if I wanted to be on a team. Instantly was so pleased with it. The refs are all great and they go out of the way to make it fun. I now play Indoor Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, and Softball. One of the best and most caring leagues I have played in. Oh man, I couldn't be happier to have found Zog! I started with Zog Soccer about a year ago and played on a random team with random people. I hadn't played in years and was so rusty and out of shape, but everyone on the team was just out there to have fun! You have people from all different skill levels - former college players to first timers - who are in it to be active and social. Don't let the "but I don't know anyone" excuse stop you from signing up! It's easy to find the skill level and competitiveness that is right for you, and it's truly a great way for LA transplants (as a lot of us are) to go out and meet new people. It's also so important and meaningful to us that we playing for charities of our choice. I just signed up for my 8th Zog season in my third sport (Football, Basketball, Soccer) and am trying to figure out how I can fit more sports into my schedule! read more

Whatever you do, do not sign up for beach football with Zog Sports in Santa Monica. It is a joke of a business, and a huge waste of time. Of our 9 scheduled games so far, we have had 6 games cancelled on us LAST MINUTE. Three were for bad weather, so I guess that is understandable, however 2 of the games were cancelled 15 minutes before the game with no notice. When I emailed to ask for a refund after the 2nd cancelled game in two weeks, they told me it was due to an emergency. It turns out, that the referee set to host the games was in Las Vegas betting on March Madness. Over 100 people left stranded wasting an entire weekend over this, and to remedy it, they offer a few of us 20% discounts, and refunded only the people they felt deserved it. Where is everyone else's refund?????? There is a league next to this one on the beach that is much more organized, and communicates with their BUSINESS CLIENTS much better. There is already one lawsuit outstanding against this Zog football league, and they have now been reported a third time to the BBB. Zog refuses to make the situation right. Join LA Sportsnet or Planet Social football instead. read more

What is there to say about Matt and his ZOG Sports Team - they are fun, professional and helpful in every possible way. This is our teams second summer doing super-casual softball and to say we love it is an understatement. Win or lose, Zog helps to create a feeling of comradeship and fun regardless. Moving back to LA this year meant starting fresh with friends, leagues, things and stuff. Although it took me a while to get back on the horse, signing up for Zog Sports Indoor Volleyball was by far the best decision of the year. Every single person I spoke to before season was helpful and informative, and even with the season coming to a close, they could not be more friendly! I was matched with a team that met my skill level (players), and I am truly looking forward to next season and exploring other sports they offer (bowling). I have played in Zog leagues for the the past three years and have one overarching issue that affects the league in a variety of ways. In softball, for example, the umpires play on teams in the league. Yes, you read that correctly, the umpire of your game one week could be the second baseman or pitcher on the team you face the following week. The nicest word I have for ZogSports is "incestuous" in that most of the umpires and league employees, etc. play on teams making it extremely difficult for impartial players and teams to play in this extremely partial league. They bill this as a "drinking" league so we have played in games with a buzzed or drunk umpire hobnobbing with his drinking buddies on the opposing team. I really hope Matt and his staff clean ZogSports up. read more
