For the second time, I was overcharged on my credit card transaction. I included a 20% tip to the transaction, however Zola saw fit to once again overcharge my credit card. I called Zola to resolve the issue, leaving my name and number for the manager, but again no response. The service was very slow, but the music was great, so I felt a 20% tip was appropriate. Zola must feel that my 20% is not fair, so they decided to round up to a 50% tip. This is a very entertaining bar, but I strongly recommend paying in cash only. Zola is one of my favorite bars/ hang out spots in Spokane. The general atmosphere and setting are tough to top, and the happy hour specials never disappoint. The live music combined with an incredible decor make Zola an entertaining spot almost any day of the week. My favorite items on the menu are the BBQ pork sliders and pigs in a blanket, which I always enjoy washing down with a good cocktail. The only let downs with Zola are that the service is usually bad, and sometimes it can be difficutl to get a table. This is the second time my husband and I visited Zola. We come to Spokane once a year and Zola is our home away from home. Great service, Great food, Great live music and really love the rustic atmosphere. Cover was reasonable $5 for some great music. Uppercut was playing and the played a variety of music from all 80s,90s, 00s,and popular pop music. We will come again and highly recommend this fun yet relaxed atmosphere. I usually go for happy hour but got there a little late. Ordered the club sandwich and a coolers light. The club was $13.50 had one slice of ham and two slices of turkey. Vending machine airport sandwiches have more substance. Good place for drinking beer durning happy hour but I would not recommend eating. read more

Zola is by far one of the most eclectic bars in Spokane as far as the food and the decor. I love coming here, when I get the chance. The Tilt-o-whirls that are made into a booth for two or three. I am pretty sure that most of the materials that make up the decor are recycled. I celebrated my Birthday here back in 08 and my experience was outstanding. Great place for happy hour. I am not big on the neighborhood and the surrounding bars, but Zola's always delivers. The food is always good (try the Mac and Cheese!), and the drinks are good as well. My only complaint is how busy it gets. This obviously isn't the fault of the business (good for them making money!), but it can be hard to find seating sometimes, especially if you go with a group. It can also be loud if you go when a band is playing. Definitely the best bar in the area. read more

The food is great and their happy hour is one of the best in town. That being said, unless you can get a spot at the bar, the service is awful. The waitresses are slow (even on slow days) and often act like you are bothering them by trying to order something. Only real complaint is the menu and the waiter make no effort to clarify the drinks on the menu under happy hour, really are not part of happy hour. Well, I'm never going back to Zola's again. My and I went down there for an hour or two, and I wish I could have that time back. With the exception of the general manager and a group of his friends at the bar we were the only people there for most of our visit. And the entire time we got to listen to gay bashing coming from one guy in the group. From where we sat we couldn't see who it was, but it was from the GM's group, and it was loud. Not once did someone in the group speak up about it and ask him to knock it off. Not the bartenders. Not the general manager. Apparently Zola's is a great place to be if you enjoy gay bashing. I no longer find it a great place and it ruined my evening. I won't be darkening their doorstep again. read more

I was one of the Nurses out with Summer H. Our waiter was sent home due to lack of people, even with a live band. We tipped him very well for his time. Again, the manager was RUDE, and informed us to PAY UP AND "YOU CAN JUST LEAVE!" Very poor management on a business that already had to send staff home. Will never return. read more

I went online looking for music... I was only in Spokane for one night (7-20-12). This place is f***ing AWESOME...I couldn't get enough of the decor! It was really fresh, fascinating, original and creative! Packed with young people and the service was great even though they were slammed...I felt really welcome and comfortable! The band was DAMN GOOD...Eclectic Approach...they encouraged audience participation and no one was shy about dancing. Try the Zola Mac...it is to die for! read more

Zola has great potential but needs to wake up. First of all, they have live music every night, which is great but I have gone as early as 8pm for some late food and drinks and I still get charged cover for admittance. 8pm is a little early to be charging cover when there's only 10 people in the place and I'm buying food. I understand if the place is full or the music has already started but no music, no people, and still cover by the bouncer that acted extremely arrogant. The music is usually tasteful and appreciated but every time I go it is always turned up way too loud for such a small venue. It makes conversations near impossible so even if you would like to talk to someone there, you might as well not even think about it. Lastly, I was just in there last weekend and we had our DD, who was also charged cover (usually overlooked by bars to promote safety), but was also charged $2 for soda water. Who in their right mind charges for soda water at a bar? And who charges the person who is ensuring that patrons of the bar make it home safe as well as makes it so the bar doesn't get sued for over-serving (which does happen). I have been disappointed the last 3 times I have been and it used to be my favorite spots in Spokane. Doubt I will be going back again. read more

He is ON-THE-JOB though, making sure that quiet, well-behaved adults seeking a glass of wine are aware that he's there and watching them! Used to go to this place every time I was back in town. Advertised industry discount on Tuesdays, talked to bartender about it but when server dropped bill no discount. Asked about the special and was told it was too late, there was no way to reverse the charge. Seriously? I've used every POS under the sun, you have to be able to void a charge. Before 830 pm it was perfectly quiet and I was able to have a very nice conversation over some delicious appetizers. Then the band came on and they were better then we expected, playing a variety of songs they were a good volume and had impressive talents. Seems like the perfect place for both types of nights you are looking for as long as you go at the right time. God was very good I had the jalapeño pulled pork, it was not overly spicy and went nicely with the beer I was drinking (waitress suggested it I don't remember name). Definitely recommend. read more

I am in Spokane regularly and have my usual go-to's, but I went to Zola as a recommendation from the valet at the Davenport Grand. It was a short walk to the restaurant, and I was lucky that there was no wait at 7pm on a Friday night. I ordered the sliders, mac & cheese, and the Steak and Mushrooms. All were fantastic. Even better was the service we got from Emily. The best service I have had a while. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

Bartenders, please realize that your tips come from making customers happy. It is not in your best interest to say "I have no idea" and roll your eyes when a customer asks you to suggest a drink. In the eye of someone who does not drink, YOU are the connoisseur / the God of all things being alcohol, even if you don't give a rats a**, just suggest something don't act like it is such a hassle for you do this, it is your job... you are the professional in your field. I came in with a friend who rarely drinks she asked the bartender what he suggested, he act like it was such an inconvenience that she asked that question. I wasn't expecting him to say anything profoundly mind blowing, but he could have offered a simple Cosmo, sweet tea vodka and lemonade , or a strawberry margarita if she likes something sweet. There are many bartenders looking for jobs in Spokane, I can't even figure out how you still have a job with the way you responded. Last time I went to Zola, it was such a pleasant experience and the bar staff were great, but this time was truly a disaster. read more

If your looking for good service, go else where. Zola is very proud of they're "six or more" gratuity of 18% (written in small, fine print at the bottom of they're menu). AND even if your server informs you he is leaving early, and you tip him out generously.. this 18% will still be add to your final bill. I know, you're probably thinking "crazy" right? Nope. Even if you politely question the manager, she will inform you she doesn't have the ability to ammend it in the computer, then walk off in the middle of your sentence, telling you she "has other customers to attend to!" Our server ended up with close to a 40% tip for very mediocre service. If you do pursue this further, the so-called "manager" will then inform you how little she values your patronage, how her server doesn't need to inform the customers of this clause, and that you need to pay and leave. We were a smaller group of mid 30's nurses and did not deserve this type of dismissive treatment when inquiring on a bill.. Save your dollars for a business that doesn't steal from it customers and treats you as though they appreciate your business. read more

Hey! So I am a few days later than intended, but I just wanted to give a shout out to Zola's and to a particularly awesome gal, Shawn (Sean? What is spelling?). I have always loved Zola's, choosing to spend the entirety of my 21st birthday year, and rave to anyone who will listen about their Moscow Mule's, Rosemary Tavern Fries, and great live music. But this week was special. I was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, and have been forced to move home with my mom, losing my job and having to apply for disability for this life altering condition. I went with a good friend of mine, a recent GU grad who is leaving for the Peace Corps in November, to Zola's to have a night out before a procedure I was going to have where I knew I'd be feeling crummy for the following weeks and be cooped up at home. We ordered fries to share and drinks (she had a G&T, anyone want to guess what I had? ;) ) and the time came to pay our tabs. Shawn had been our waitress all night and, as always, all the staff were amazing. She took my card, to come back and tell me it had been declined. I look online at my account where it says the funds are available, but again the card is declined. My friend looks at her card to see she doesn't have nearly enough to cover both tabs. I start to panic. It is midnight on a Wednesday, and I have no cash let alone another card. I go up to talk to Shawn, to see what I can even do at this point. I offer to leave my phone at the bar and come back to pay the tab tomorrow when I can get in touch with my bank. She tells me that is unnecessary, and pays my tab. She offered kindness to a complete stranger, when I needed compassion the most. She went above and beyond. Yes, it was less than $20, but it meant a lot more than that to me. So thank you to Shawn, and to the entire staff at Zola's. I don't even need to say I'll be back a thousand more times :) as my middle school yearbook would say- you guys rock, don't ever change. read more

Pretty, trendy, modern industrial/urban aesthetic on the inside. The last time I was here the food was tapas style, which was good, but overpriced. The menu has since changed and now has meal style offerings. I had the steak & mushrooms in a bowl. It tasted good but almost all the pieces were fatty and gristly, so I had to spit them out in a napkin, which is gross in front of company. My friend had the Thai curry pasta, which she said was watery and not impressive. She asked for it without mushrooms, but the waitress said the mix had mushrooms already in it? I wonder what they do for people with allergies. My friend, a local, also said the chefs must have changed, since it was better the last time she'd gone. I had water, which was served in a plastic cup (weird), and not refilled once (I went home very thirsty, since my dish had lots of pepper in it). The live music was incredible, however- "Lazy Love" was the band name and the singer, a blonde woman, had a flawless velvet voice. I was amazed. This would be a great place for a drink and music and a snack or a side-bite, but I probably wouldn't come for dinner. read more

Came here last Saturday for a drink. It was pretty lively and the service was good. I was a bit surprised by the crowd - it seemed to be mostly people who were 30 or older. Didn't stop me from having a great time of course but if you want a younger crowd you might want to head over to Borrachos or Nyne. read more
