Was coming here regularly when Steven was the bartender. He was the only person is spokane that I would trust with a "bartender's choice" of seasonal ingredients and with each menu change. The large windows on their enclosed patio always provided entertaining views of people on the sidewalk. The hotel rooms also allowed dogs, so I was able to have my dog with me in the patio space of the restaurant. Steven is now gone. Dogs are disallowed. And the food feels less good, despite the flatbreads all being pre made at another location. I definitely don't get a good vibe from the new staff; who act more like this is a quick serve coffee shop, than a lounge bar where people want to stay for some time. An eclectic setting with a nice mix of people. The brisket flatbread with jalapeños hit the spot. The old fashioned was fantastic. I was worried it would be hard to find late night eats in Spokane, but this corner spot delivered impeccably. Sit in the semi-enclosed area off the sidewalk if you'd like that open air experience. The decor is expensive, either you love it or don't care. But it does have some cool features, like stars that shine thru the floor, 3 d photo artwork, bubble chandler . The happy hour is really cheap but they have an amazing selection of liquor that you don't normally see. Beer selection is special too. A well-decorated and quiet bar located at the Hotel Ruby in downtown Spokane. Drinks are yummy and the bar tenders are open to suggestions and will remake drinks that aren't quite right. I don't come here seeking food, but if I get the buzzed munchies, any of the flatbreads hit the spot for me. Sometimes the owner comes in for a drink. He cares about his business and enjoys checking up on the place. No real complaints here. I like that I can come in with a small party and sit comfortably. I am totally a fan of the Sapphire Lounge! It is a hip little bar tucked away in the lobby of the Hotel Ruby that offers a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, and a killer happy hour special. There is a robust menu of cocktails, as well as beer and wine options. In one of my stranger moments, I ordered a "ruby cosmo," not nearly my normal kind of drink, and it was fruity and tasty. It wasn't very strong, but that is par for the territory with such a drink. My friend had a mojito, and she seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. We also got a flatbread, which was huge for the value price of $5 on happy hour. The music was good, the place was not crowded, and there was a fun free photo booth around the corner in the lobby for your post-drink selfie needs. Really, what more do you need that the Sapphire doesn't offer? read more

We have been staying at the Ruby and coming here for years! Never have had a bad experience until this week. immediately upon entering the bar we were struck by a foul odor. We sat at the bar and the odor continued , actually worsening. We ordered one round and sat as many fruit flies and or gnats buzzed us. My wife even smashed one on the bar. It was disgusting, and I am not talking about one or two. We couldn't finish our drinks and leave quicker. Hopefully this gets read by an owner and or manager and they can get this place cleaned up! read more

This is, essentially, my third update to my original review for the Sapphire Lounge. I originally called it the best bar in Spokane but moved to a different position after they made some staff and menu changes. After taking advantage of the current offer on Yelp ($10 for $20) and returning for my first time in a long while, I believe the bar deserves the original 5-star rating. Watching the bartender make an oversized drink in a St. Germain charafe accompanied by a side glass of ice enticed me to order the same. The drink, called the Hummingbird ($8), comes with Lunetta Prosecco, St. Germain, house-made club soda, and a lemon twist. It's absolutely delicious. The charafes will please any design enthusiast and I plan to buy a set for myself to use when serving the identical drink to friends. Admittedly, their drink is so generous in size that I found the St. Germain a bit overwhelming by the end but if their fault is serving drinks too large, bring it on. At this point, I was very tempted by their version of the Manhattan but after finding the perfect Manhattan at a St. Regis hotel, I've been scared to try the drink from anywhere else. Instead, I ordered the 4G ($8) which features Big Gin, fresh muddled basil, fresh squeezed lime juice, and ginger infused simple syrup topped with ginger beer. It was delicious and the perfect way to counter a hot day. I felt the drink was slightly heavy on the lime juice but I enjoyed its freshness. Finally, I wanted to finish on a sweet note before heading out to dance. The huckleberry drink I ordered is not listed on their online menu so I don't have the name but I was, again, satisfied. The drink included wine and lemon juice and I found the drink quite sour by the time I had finished. If I had any feedback, I'd suggest the drinks go lighter with citrus (or compensate with some simple syrup). I enjoy sour drinks (I love a good whiskey sour) but there's a right level and there's too much. If you've already driven past the bar, I'm sure you've looked in the windows where it's obvious that the atmosphere is upscale yet relaxed. Friendly bartenders and a comfortable interior make the Sapphire Lounge a complete package. read more

We were the only ones in here on Sunday night at 11:30pm, and i'm sure the bartender just wanted us to head up to our rooms (we were staying in the hotel attached) but he didn't show it! Him and my travel partner talked for an hour about whiskey and bourbon and he gave us tons of suggestions and let us smell some of his favourites. I was getting tired and yawny, and asked him if i could get a glass of wine to take upstairs to drink in my bed while watching American Cable TV, and he said no problem! A couple wandered in about 5 minutes before close, but instead of turning them away he said they were wlecome to stay for one, which i thought was nice! I have been impressed with the progress of The Sapphire Lounge. Their prices are absolutely within norms for specialty drinks in a non-divey bar, their happy hour is amazing ($4 flatbread pizzas, $3.50 premium wells), and the main manager/bartender is pleasant, a good mixer, and willing to take feedback. I kind of adore this place. A classier option n the west side of downtown. UPDATE, 8/12/12: I have to amend my previous review. My favorite bartender's hours were cut and I found that my experience at Sapohire went from generally awesome to completely dependent on who was working. The experience now is just inconsistent. You might either get a wll-mixed drink with a single icecube (for less melt) or you might get a glass full of crushed ice and a mediocre cocktail. The same goes for the staff - some are attentive and prompt, but one young woman spent 35 minutes either texting or playing games on her cell phone while my drink sat empty and I was hoping to order food. So I walk past this place almost every day on my way to work, and it seems like every week they just keep piling more and more gaudy "modern" shit onto the front. A gate! Another gate! A screen! A lighting feature! A sign! A gate! And inside, is just a couple vexed tourists perched uncomfortably on their ridiculous tiny stools. A friend was in town and we ended up inside the Sapphire and attempted to order food; nothing on the menu was "in stock" and ended up going for the "flatbread plate" which tasted suspiciously like Trader Joe's. Spencer is always attentive and fun to talk to, not to mention the fact that he remembered my girlfriend and I not only by name, but also what we did for a living after not having been there for a year and a half!!! I've given this place a couple chances, but both times I was highly disappointed. Biggest issue is the hellish service - or should I say complete lack of service as the issue is that there is none. On a Friday or Saturday night they have 2 or 3 people working the bar. That is it. It was the same both times I visited - extremely understaffed resulting in terrible service. Last night one of the bartenders appeared brand new so was pretty much useless. Another was complaining about a customer to a customer - how uncool is that?! My group of five was totally ignored for 20 minutes at least when we decided there must not be table service, so we went to the bar. Long story short - took us at least 30 minutes to get drinks! Everyone was disgusted with the place and we went elsewhere for the rest of the evening. read more

It was great, the Rum Mule was delicious and also the flatbread, we had lots of drinks and food and the waiter said ,, no I figure it out later. I'll start off with the bad news... The service can be horrible at times. I read the same thing in another review: if you want a second round of drinks (or anything else besides a first round of drinks) you have to go to the counter. I have visited Sapphire on several occasions, and during my last visit, I went to the bar to request my check, and the bartender was busy, but he said he could retrieve that for us. Meanwhile, we went back to our seats in the other section of the lounge. after about fifteen minutes, I went back up to the counter to ask for it for a second time, but as I approached the counter I saw it just sitting there... The bartender failed to even bring it to our table. A little disappointed in that. Also beware of their "Signature Sips". The name is quite literal. These drinks are very, very small and not worth the money. Also.... Country music played the whole night at a decently loud volume which was very atrocious - - to be quite honest Other than that, the ambiance is wonderful. About half of the lounge is in almost a separate room that is covered in basically all windows and no walls. It's really pretty. in the summer, the large windows open up like a garage would, so you can enjoy the nice warm air outside! Sapphire also has a special that offers $5 flatbreads. They are really yummy. There is a BBQ chicken one, a Margherita, and one other that I can't recall. Overall, a decent place to get a drink and a snack. read more
