We went to Agave tonight for dinner and drinks before a show, and honestly, this place has a lot of potential. The atmosphere was really enjoyable -- the space has a great vibe, the drinks were well made, and overall it feels like somewhere that could become a favorite spot downtown. The food was decent as well, though not especially memorable. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the positives. From the moment we walked in, we felt more like an inconvenience than welcomed guests. The host greeted us while remaining seated at the bar and simply told us to "sit anywhere," which immediately set an odd tone. When I asked for paper menus, I was told they only use QR codes. Normally that wouldn't be a huge issue, but the menu was around 15 pages long with tiny font, making it frustrating to navigate on a phone. Once our food arrived, we essentially never saw our server again. No check-ins, no refill offers, no asking if we wanted another round of drinks -- nothing. Meanwhile, staff members were gathered at the bar loudly talking among themselves and openly complaining about being there, which was uncomfortable to listen to as customers trying to enjoy a night out. Eventually, we had to walk up to the front bar ourselves just to pay our bill. That was the most disappointing part because the restaurant truly has the foundation to be excellent. The ambiance and drinks are already there, but hospitality matters just as much as the food. A little attentiveness and genuine customer service would have completely changed the experience. We absolutely would have ordered more drinks and likely stayed longer if anyone had checked on us. Hopefully management takes service more seriously, because this place could be great with the right staff culture and attention to guests. read more

Went here on a recommendation prior to the movies on Thursday evening. The drinks were phenomenal and food was delicious! Started out with the pretzel sticks and beer cheese for an app. Had the espresso martini then decided to mix it up with the Muffin, What about you. Yum, yum. They had at least three different bar areas that I could see. I didn't check out the whole place. They have a rum wall. They have a tequila wall and then they have a whiskey wall. I went for the tequila last night I ordered a couple appetizers. I got the deviled eggs and then I ordered the chicken strips with the pineapple ghost pepper sauce, which was extremely delicious. These are not your ordinary chicken strips. These are hand, battered, and fried which are light, crispy and delicious. The ambiance and service is excellent here. The bar/restaurant is up to par and fun plus exciting with all the alcohol on display. I ordered the salmon burger and garlic fries and the garlic fries were very good. The salmon burger was straight salty. Who ever seasoned the salmon over did it with salmon and they had an extremely heavy hand when seasoning the salmon. I definitely recommend the bar but be careful with the salmon burger unless you want to eat straight salt. It was so salty I thought my veins were going to constrict. What a fun place! The drinks were FABULOUS! I love amaretto sours and theirs was on point. For food, our group enjoyed a variety of things. I got the BBQ fries. We went for a late evening walk this past Sunday, looking for something to eat. We found no place serving food, until we got to Purgatory Agave. Robert welcomed us in and said Yes! they were still serving food. It was Sunday at 9:30pm and that was the theme: Yes! We felt welcomed and appreciated. Robert even custom-crafted my drink order. GREAT bar! Such a fun place in Spokane-would definitely recommend to locals and visitors alike. The place was packed at 9pm and we managed to find the last two seats together at the bar after asking someone to move their purse. It is more of a soup since it is more soupy than stew texture. It was perfect for a colder day. The flavor was unique with a huge taste of rosemary. It was good but if you don't like rosemary this might be a bit too much rosemary. The next round we got the pork belly tacos. The pork belly filling was very flavor, nice texture and spice but the flour tortillas were inedible. I took one bite and ate just the filling. The pork belly had nice char. The pickles onions complimented and the sour cream sauce with cilantro was just a flavor explosion and then you had this drab dull inedible flour tortilla that just wrecked the whole experience. The flour tortilla is a huge miss. The flour tortilla were poor quality and cold that tasted like rubbery hardboard. A corn tortilla would have been better or better yet make it into a salad. What a fun place! Cool vibe with a huge bar the runs the length of the restaurant with one end of it near the back overlooking the open kitchen and the other the bar to ceiling shelves of whiskey and bourbon. The craft drinks are delicious and they also offer tasting flights or singles. The food is delicious. I had the lamb gyros and my husband had the house smoked pork ribs. They were both so good! The bowl was lined with pesto and that's a combination I haven't even tried at a restaurant, let alone a bar!! The pita and other crudités were yum. The deviled eggs and chicken bites made a meal for my husband. The chicken bites - juicy, flavorful, and addictively good. The food disappeared before the drinks. Speaking of drinks, the *Cucumbersome* with Empress gin was a refreshing twist that hit all the right notes, while the *Old Fashioned of the Month* impressed with its coffee, chocolate, and orange bitters blend. Feeling brave, we interrogated *Indri*, a potent whiskey that left us feeling warm and content. We didn't have any of the whiskey this time, but deeply enjoyed the clam chowder - lots of clams, no sand! - with the rich little cuts of baguette, and highly recommend the veggie platter of tzatziki and ranch sauce. It was fun making little hors d'oeuvres with the baguette cuts and then mopping up the last of the rich, creamy chowder with the bread. Bonus points for the little coasters with cut-out puzzle pieces for a puffin with wings. If we were staying long in Spokane, we'd be regular customers! This is a must-visit. read more

We have been here a few times and it's always a good experience. The inside is fairly small, but it doesn't feel too crowded, which is nice. It's cool how you can see into the kitchen and it's pretty open. The alcohol display with library ladder is also really cool and a nice touch. The food that I've tried had been pretty delicious. I've had the wings, fries, and the cheesecake (gave it to us on the house for my husband's birthday! ) and we all enjoyed it. The service was also really great. I'm not a huge whiskey drinker and wanted something light, so even though they were busy the server took the time to talk it over with me and help me find something I'd like. Checked out this cool looking whiskey bar.. wanted to take somebody from Kentucky who knows whiskey to some place we've never been. The wall of whiskey was impressive and the atmosphere was really cool. Our waitress was fantastic and we really enjoyed our time. Unfortunately, I have to give their food three stars as nothing that any of us got was very impressive. Out of the five meals that we purchased, only one person said it was great. Everyone else thought their food was just okay. Though it was great checking out this new location, I probably won't come back for food in the future. However their drinks were good. I'm not sure what was in there Manhattan's but our Kentucky whiskey guy said it was the weirdest one he'd ever had and wouldn't order it again. I didn't take everyone's food photos. Sorry. There's a whole lot of whiskey going on. I am not a whiskey drinker but I still felt the power of the beautiful wall of whiskey as you enter the bar. It's gorgeous and will tickle the pants off of any whiskey connoisseur. There are still other drinks to imbibe. They offer 8 rotating beers on tap, some wine and a few non whiskey cocktails. This is not a vodka and red bull kind of place so if that's your jam, make note. I prefer gin and the Last Laugh is a lovely riff on The Last Word, one of my all time faves. I can't say enough about this cocktail. So fun to try something new that still dazzles. Billy was my barkeep and made a sensational cocktail and made sure my time in Purgatory was divine. He has recommendations if you ask and stories to share about beverages and bootleggers from times afar. I would come back just to learn more spirit knowledge from him. He is 5 stars. The space is bright and enviting. I felt cozy all nestled up at the bar. It was lunch time and I had a lovely roasted goat cheese plate served with baguette and blueberries. Every bite was scrumptious. There were some other items a vegetarian could eat on the appetizer section but I didn't see even one on the main menu. That is the only reason I went 4 stars and not 5. I can't speak to the food since there wasn't much I could try. A BBQ tofu sandwich would fit nicely on this menu or a bowl of vegetarian jambalaya..... Pergatory definitely saved the day for us and made a lasting, permanent impression! From the minute we stepped inside, we knew we were right where we belonged! We travel full time, all over the country, and arrived in Spokane anxious to see the city and all it's promise according to Google maps! The aptly named "Purgatory": Purgatory is exactly where we found ourselves after 90 minutes with only receiving our first round of drink orders and none of our food. The service was virtually nonexistent, despite the place being less than half full. We did not get to place our order until we had been seated for 15 minutes, drinks did not arrive for another 20 minutes, then well over an hour after placing our order, someone from the next table over who had ordered before us discovered that they had not even begun to prepare our meals. There was no communication, no updates from the staff of any kind. We had to go elsewhere to find a place that was both willing and able to provide dining services, since this place was clearly neither. They did not even bother to apologize or to offer any form of explanation or recompense. We will void at all costs. read more
