This turned out to be one of the most fun experiences I have had in a while. Let's get one thing right before we begin--the QUALITY of the products you get to make rival that of any other high end perfume or scent focused boutique you will visit in ATL. This isn't just a great activity for yourself and for others; you get to take home a product you made that is truly quality. The instructors were absolutely fantastic - so attentive and incredibly knowledgeable. They walked me through all the different scents step by step, which prevented me from feeling overwhelmed by all the choices. For the perfume portion, they were especially helpful in teaching proper scent layering and how to maintain your perfume professionally. The whole experience felt very personalized and well-guided. The space is gorgeous with a really cute pink theme that adds a lovely feminine flair, but it's balanced enough that it would make a perfect date night spot too. It's tucked away in a more secluded location (you wouldn't stumble across it by accident), so make sure to park on the gravel area when you arrive if there's space. Otherwise, the area some street parking options. The venue actually seems connected to another space where you can order drinks, and it's BYOB which is a nice touch. They have the glasses, you bring the alcohol! Even though I went alone, I had a wonderful time chatting with a couple who was also taking the class. Both my candle and perfume turned out beautifully! They provide great containers for the candles and have an amazing selection of scents to choose from. One thing I appreciated is the flexibility - if you're coming with a friend and want to do different activities (one person doing candles, another doing perfume), they can accommodate that. I chose to do both the candle and perfume making, and it was absolutely worth it. As a birthday bonus, they even gave me a special birthday treat associated with the class, which was such a thoughtful surprise! The many scents that hit my nose as soon I opened the door hit me hard, but in a good way! I, at first, thought I was in a soap store, Candlefish is at the north end of Ponce City Market close to the parking lot. It's a nice, open, bright space, with welcoming and friendly employees. After I realized that it was multiple various candle scents that I was smelling at the same time, a smiling employee came to me, and told me to let her know if I needed any help and if she could help me find anything. I told her that I was just looking. After picking up a variety of candles, such as mimosa, pina colada, Bloody Mary, and others, and smelling each of them, the candles started smelling similar. Not that they actually did smell similar, it's just that the scents throughout the store were just overwhelming me. This was my queue to leave. LOL. Oops. So he made it happen! Crafted Creations is a Black woman-owned biz in Doraville, located in a busy shopping plaza. They offer a variety of classes over a few days throughout the week and I'm happy that he grabbed tickets in time for a 3pm class on my birthday. This class was different than some of the others that I saw, as it was a combo class that included a candle and a room spray for each participant for under $60. We arrived a few minutes early and waited outside for just a few after reading a sign on the door that asked guests to do so if we were early. Makes sense, as it's not a huge space and they seemed to be mindful of crowding. As soon as it turned 3pm, they welcomed us in with open arms. The space is super cute! There's a shiny gold photo backdrop at the front along with a table of candles on sale and a large display of candles, wax melts and room sprays from their own line of scents available. Check-in was a breeze as my partner gave his name and we were instructed to scan a QR code that led us to a waiver. After this, we were guided over to a table that already had all of the tools laid out for us and the other guests. I love communal events such as this as it encourages socializing with folks beyond those you came with and Crafted Creations does a great job of that. We were paired with another couple and a pair of friends, one who was also celebrating her birthday, truly a great group! On the table there were two lazy susans with a variety of scent oils as well as individual trays that had scales, measuring cups, and more. We got started a few minutes later than I had expected (due to the timing policy for guests) but I think they were waiting for a group that came in just a few minutes behind but it worked out great. Each step was super easy to understand, easily executed and fun to make happen. My boyfriend and the gentleman at our table were the only guys in the room and I'm sure that my bf was even surprised at how he enjoyed it lol (also, he now thinks he's a scientist so there's that LOL.) I can't even say how long the process took for both items because we were so focused and not looking at the time at all. My favorite part ended up being the scent-choosing part despite assuming that I'd be overwhelmed. I ended up choosing a clean linen, an amber of sort and I totally can't remember the other scent but as one who goes for a 'clean' smell vs. sweet or musky scents, I was grateful for the varieties. Once we finished our scentful science projects, we were told that as our candles cooled, there were a number of games we could play to pass the time as well as popping any bottles that we brought (it's BYOB!) We totally forgot to bring some sparkling cider but lucky me, the young ladies at our table were sweet enough to share theirs with me and the friend of the bday girl even allowed me to use her champagne glass. *tears* SO SWEET. Community is everything. We played 2 or 3 rounds of uno that were sooo fun, the time passed so swiftly, when they announced that we were good to pick up our candles, we were all still laughing and in the midst of our table fun.
