Went for the first time night of lights and it was pretty impressive and considering the real animals are sleeping the fabricated and constructed fabric animals was so interesting. The under the sea section was awesome and the trained rescued dogs was definitely a show stopper. We're going to try some of those tricks with our fur buddy. I think tonight is the last night it's up so if you can go see it and try getting your tickets online. They're $20 buck and worth it. read more

Wow. The last time I was here was 10 years ago and it was so depressing. It's like a completely different zoo now and the animals look so much happier. The place is massive, divided by global regions (e.g. Africa, etc). My favs were the elephants and tiger. The large aviary in the Asia section is currently closed as the are remodeling it, but honestly it doesn't take away from the experience the zoo is so big and there is so much to see. There's fun experiences as well like feeding giraffes, going on a swan shaped pedal boat, and a couple of splash areas for the kiddos (forgot a bathing suit? No problem, they sell them!) There's a lot of shade provided by the trees throughout the trail and different drink and food stands as well-- or if you brought your own snacks there's plenty of picnic areas, gazebos and benches. read more

Sadly we had high expectations for the night at the zoo to see the holiday lights. We've been to other zoos after dark and found it a great time to see the animals. Today was the perfect day, it was not crowded at all and most of the animals were up and moving. The Lions however were taking a nap. It was really hot and it felt like 99 degrees Thank goodness there were places that had shade. I recommend lite clothes, a hat, and a water bottle. We spent about 3 hours walking and my feet felt like they were going to fall off, we did not finish seeing the entire zoo. When you first enter the zoo there are some options like a bike for two or more and also motorbikes. I wish we would have rented the bike. I loved the elephants, there were African and Asian ones. I'm so glad they came up close so we could take great pictures. The Monkeys were cute too, with such strong arms for swinging. The entry fee is 22.00 and one can get a membership too. Come visit the zoo, on a weekday to avoid the crowds and you will enjoy it better. read more

We had a great experience at the Miami Zoo, although quite a few animals were missing during our visit. The gentleman at the ticket booth was polite and very helpful, securing our discounted tickets for Monday. Inside the park, we were impressed with how friendly and informative the staff were. One staff member in particular gave us clear directions, made us laugh, and made our visit much more convenient and enjoyable. I'd especially like to recognize the young man working with the giraffes. He knew the names of each one, answered all our questions, and kept us entertained. He engaged wonderfully with my toddler, making sure she had a memorable experience feeding the giraffes, all while upholding the safety rules without ever being rude. A highlight of our trip was renting the "Rydeez," which cost around $77 for a little more than two hours. These mobility vehicles were fun to drive, and they allowed me to get through the park easily with my child. We also bought a snow cone from the stand that sells dipped bananas and such. At $8, I felt it was extremely overpriced and seemed like a cheap attempt to squeeze more money from parkgoers. However, the employee at the stand was so kind and sweet that I ended up purchasing it anyway to help him out. Our only wish was that we had been made aware ahead of time that some of the animals wouldn't be available to see. read more

The family and I decided to visit Zoo Miami after Thanksgiving. I've been to Zoo Miami various times and this time it was truly disappointing. Nearly every animal was "on vacation" and not available for viewing. My mom and boyfriend couldn't stop joking about how we paid to basically walk a trail and look at trees. A lot of other guests we talked to during our walk thought it was ridiculous and seemed like a scam. Overall, until Zoo Miami offers something online that lets guests know which animals are and aren't on exhibit, I won't be returning or recommending. read more

I think Miami has one of the best Zoos. I recommend to get the family pass because it offers transfer the whole family and the one time fee annual. They also have a splash park for little kids and it's great during the summer to cool down. Every time I go, they have different shows and different things going on for the holidays too. We have an annual pass to the zoo since we live close by. It's honestly the best since the zoo is such a great place to go on a long walk and get to enjoy the animals and interactive areas. I do wish there was more to see in between the long distances of each animal enclosure but it's still fun. I also love that workers are always around to give fun facts and just talk to. It was a perfect weather day to go to the zoo, even if just for an hour. That was all the time we had, but it was worth it. This zoo is huge! 750 acres, one of the largest in Florida. You have to be in top physical shape to walk it all. I would have to do it in several visits. We did see the flamingos, which was incredible. Such graceful birds. As a local Floridian I can't believe it took me 20+ years to check this place out ! I was pleasantly surprised how large our local zoo is ! It has 750 acres, and one of the largest zoo in the US. I went on a Monday afternoon, it felt like I was on a private tour; Loved how it wasn't crowded at all. They provide options like animal covered scooter, along with cycling your way around the zoo. They had ample amount of restaurants, and snacks along your journey around . I enjoyed that they had mist stations throughout the park to freshen up because the Florida heat can be brutal. The bathrooms have air conditioning and are very well kept. Some of the animals were not out which was a bit of a bummer. I loved that they had interactive activities like feeding the giraffes or feeding the parrots. Unfortunately , when I went to try to feed giraffes they were over eating lettuce . They informed us we can try but no guarantees. They should maybe adjust the feeding times to give everyone an opportunity. It took a little over 4 hours to walk through everything. Overall, this is a good zoo! There are some really cool animals; however, it would have been nice to see more animals considering the size of the zoo. Quite a few enclosures were under repair or did not have animals currently visible. Expect to do a lot of walking. This zoo is huge. Zoo Miami holds a special place in my heart. We've had the family membership for years. Many wonderful memories!! Stop by in the cooler months to see the animals and grab a snack or lunch. During warmer times, have the kiddos wear their bathing suits to enjoy a couple of small water play areas. Zoo Miami is a wonderful location for the whole family, especially smaller children. The Miami Zoo is "okay" but maybe because of the weather in April for Spring Break, but a lot of the exhibits were closed, so it wasn't a huge menagerie of diverse animals to see. I'm from California where there's the Los Angeles and San Diego Zoo's which are pretty large and the weather here is neutral, coastal, so we can house a lot more different animals comfortably, so I might have different expectations on what is appropriate for the South East Coast. There was one "ride" attraction tour that was an upcharge to the general admission which I found odd and thought it should be all-inclusive as part of the entry fee and experience. It is a large zoo 'tho and we had to go catch a flight, so didn't see everything, so it's definitely good for an "all day" excursion if you have kids who love seeing animals. read more

Let's first be clear that the only reason I went to The Miami Zoo was for my grandson's birthday party. I don't support zoo's, circuses, Sea World, etc. so I felt like a hypocrite the entire time. I'm going to try & rate this with my true feelings. I gave 4 stars because even though this park was pretty and well kept, I don't condone keeping animals that were meant to live freely, in captivity. The zoo itself was nice aesthetically with plenty of room (for the humans). The animals on the other hand had some room to roam but many seemed sad for obvious reasons. It's tough being an animal lover and seeing animals in captivity when we all know they should be free in their own habitats. I did my research on the zoo after going. They started out by taking in their first animals which were left behind and stranded when a circus went out of business in Miami. This made me feel better. They also occupy almost 750 acres, 4 miles of walkways, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 130 species are at risk in the wild; many classified as endangered or critically endangered. This is another win. My only wish is that they would move more towards housing distinct or endangered animals only. I enjoyed the many species of trees, palms and other plants throughout the park. Very pretty. We were a very large party walking through the zoo and all the kids enjoyed themselves. PROS: Beautiful park with lots of room They house many animals that are on the distinct/endangered list (keeping them safe) A big variety of plants and trees CONS: Pricey entrance fee They house animas that are NOT endangered and should be living freely Some of the animals (lions/tigers/monkeys, etc.) looked miserable My final thought is, if you want to entertain your kids and show them animals, choose a rehabilitation option over a regular zoo. Teach your kids from an early age that it's not OK to steal animals from their natural habitat, and put them on display for humans. Yes, south Florida has many rehab options. read more

We had such a fun evening at zoo lights! Zoo Miami is very large so even with lots of people it didn't feel too crowded. There is plenty of free parking. The animals are really cool and the changing colored lights made them look even cooler. When we entered the zoo we were each given some 3D glasses that made the lights look like either snowflakes or zebras. The kids had so much fun in the alligator tunnel that goes under water. There was also a slide with otters playing around it. We had fun on the very calm boat ride that was decked out for the season. Snacks and food were plentiful as were cocktails. The music and lights helped extend the holiday season. I recommend this for young and old alike. So if you're in Miami check it out. read more

It's our first visit to Miami & my boyfriend was dying to go to a zoo. So, I found this one & we visited for most of the day on 1/29/23. The ticket prices for adults with the online discount were about $21/$41 if you wanted to add the food/souvenir cup to the ticket cost. I suggest getting your tickets online to save on the cost and wait time. We started off eating at their restaurant getting 2 flat bread pizzas & a souvenir drink/cup. The cup was $7 & refills were $2 throughout the park. The zoo is very big. With that being said, we were shocked to hear that they CLOSED their train to get us to different countries because of the volume of visitors in the park. So, unless you wanted to pay $25+ for a cart bike thingy or a hoveround in the shape of an animal to get around, you'll be trekking a very long way like we did. They also had a tram you could get on, but there was a cost associated that as well, and it only took you to Africa and Asia. So, you'd still be walking if you decided to go to Australia, etc. The weather was beautiful but I really didn't want to walk around the entire time getting all sweaty. I made the best of the day though. There were a lot of cute and interesting animals. The line was very long to feed the giraffes, so we just admired them from the gate. We got some good pics of them and other animals. Some of the exhibits were under construction. We spent a lot of time at the park. Outside of all that walking, we enjoyed ourselves. I recommend you go on a non-weekend day. Maybe that's when their train will be operational. Oh, and there are lizards and iguana's running around everywhere. I really enjoyed our visit to Zoo Miami! I have a membership here and brought my wife and kids this past Sunday. We took our time exploring and even rented one of those large bicycles that fit all five of us--great way to get a little exercise while sightseeing. The only downside was the experience entering and exiting the parking lot. There was an event happening next door that was blasting music, and while I don't mind music in general, some of the lyrics were definitely not kid-friendly. For a family-oriented area, that was a bit of a turn-off. I'd just suggest that Zoo Miami be mindful of the type of events or music playing nearby, especially considering the number of families and children visiting. So the experience of going to the zoo was great. Coming on this Saturday I didn't realize how many people go to the zoo like that. It was a lot of fun. Seeing all the different animals was great. Even though some didn't come out like expected. They just stayed in their entrapment. They have a "Rydiable" like a very slow scooter. Which is a great thing to ride on. Perhaps that was attributed to planning. The zoo in Miami has tons of options for families with many rest stops, water misting options, and hydration stations. Always dreamed of feeding giraffes? No need to travel to Africa you can do that in Miami! While there is an up charge for tram services, you can elect to walk (which is free), utilize the Safari Cycles, or fun motor scooters. These are some old pictures but Zoo Miami is one of my favorite zoos. Current admission is $23 for an adult. I loved the animal activities like feeding giraffes, camels (at one time), and the one horned rhino. It looks like they added a few new ones. Unfortunately, I'll have to take off half a star because all of the feedings used to be pretty cheap like less than $20 for sure. Now, it seems like they jacked up the prices. Zoo was a good size, you could spend a few or more hours here. There were a large variety of diverse animals and some that I've never seen at other zoos. Employees were pleasant. I was told the Miami Zoo was really good. Big disappointment. All the animals there don't move. I don't get it. Like everyone. I get the Lions and tigers but the fish weren't even moving. The zoo is huge and nice but way too spaced out. They do have these cool cars called rideables which are cool but they want $70 for that....I was told this zoo was amazing. Surprised I'm saying this. West Palm Beach zoo just as nice. Maybe better cause they're animals actually move. The ones at Miami Zoo one has to think they got the animals on Tranquilizers. This zoo is so very unique! They have so many fun things to put you more inside the enclosures with the animals! The clear slide in the otter area was so beyond awesome! No one wanted to get out because watching the otters play all around you was just too cute! The lion enclosure extra area was so awesome too! It put you right beside the lions and then made noises so you could hear them growling! It was another area you did want to leave because it was so fun! They even had a glass bottom floor on another exhibit so you could stand over the animal! Seriously, one of the most unique and fun zoos I've been to in the US! read more

In my opinion this is the best zoo in the county. All of the animals were visible and active. The zoo itself was not too crowded. A key tip make sure to feed the giraffes. You get to stand on a platform and hand feed lettuce to monster giraffes. We went to the zoo with a four year old and 18 month old. The trip was made easier by renting a four wheeled bikes the kids loved it and I didn't have to worry about trying to keep kids walking all day. read more

The attention to detail here in the groundskeeping is absurd. Beautiful park with beautiful animals that is meticulously maintained. You don't even have to look at any of the animals, just walking around the park and looking at all of the cool plants and trees along the paths is beautiful and serene in itself! I visited the zoo in February with a group of 2nd grade students. I hadn't been in a really long time, and I had forgotten how big and spread out it was. We wanted to see as many animals as possible; so we quickly traveled through the Africa and Asia sections to see as much as we could. We missed a few animals that we really wanted to see because there are a lot of twists and turns and I feel like there should be more signage or marked pathways. The animals aren't in cages so they have huge habitats with lots of greenery and shelters, tunnels, etc.to hide in. This means the animals are happy; but sometimes they're not as visible as we would like because they're keeping out of the sun. There is a great selection of animals. My favorites were the lions, the tiger and the really cool looking camel that looks like a giant Muppet. Because the zoo is so big it seemed really uncrowded and we had lots of room to move around snd get great views. Our students brought their lunches so we ate at the picnic area is way up in the front of the zoo. We had to hike back to the front for lunch, retrieve the lunches, (which were quite a distance from the picnic area,) and then haul back quickly to see the rest of the animals. Our students and chaperones were exhausted from all the walking! There ere are cool surrey bikes that you can rent; so if I came with a group of friends or family; I might do that. They also had a monorail train; but it wasn't running while we were there. (Not sure why?). Since I didn't get a chance to see many of the animals I will definitely be back sometime in the near future. There are so many cool animals to see! read more

One might say all zoos are the same. Miami Zoo wasn't like others I've been to because there were more exotic birds. The animals at this zoo seemed extra relaxed - Miami lifestyle? You can get good walking exercise done around the premises. They also have bike trollies for families, or bikes available. Bring a water bottle since it's hot and humid. I really liked that this zoo had plenty of shaded areas and seating with mist blowers through the walking paths. There were also lots of garden-like places to hideaway. Although Zoo Miami is quite a drive I decided to visit for the day and it was well worth it! There is so much to do here; be prepared to walk lots. They offer bikes for groups that you can rent for about $60 for 3 hours and it's a great way to get around but we opted to walk. In about 2.5 hours we only got through about half the zoo but luckily we decided on the best half where we could feed the giraffes! I think this is the best activity and totally worth your money. It's only $5 for a few lettuce leaves and you ca split that with another person. There wasn't a wait and the staff was super friendly. The food options were very limited so we had lunch at the Oasis Grill. They offered 2 vegetarian options but I decided to get the fries which weren't anything special but good enough. My friend got a slice of pizza and it was pretty cold. I was surprised that many of the snack booths offered alcoholic beverages as well. The zoo adult entrance fee is about $22 and there is plenty of free parking. Make sure you bring sunscreen and a water bottle! There are plenty of water bottle refill stations around the park and lots of mist sprays to keep you cool! read more
