The massaman beef curry was on special and the beef was tender and truly added to the dish. The vegetable's in all three dishes were cooked perfectly even though they were large cuts. each dish was uniquely flavored and indivually spiced. We came on a snow storm night and the boat soup was perfect for the cold weather. The Sukiyaki was a special and the glass noodles were amazing. It is a minimum 2 star dish with shrimp, tofu, chicken and lots of vegetables. The glass noodles are delightful. My only compliant was that the spice was not even throughout the dish, I had bites that were not spicy at all and bites that packed a punch. Food came quickly and service was very reasonable. We were in Missoula for the weekend and had a hankering for Thai food. It was also a nice cool fall evening which was perfect for a steaming bowl of love! Both of us ordered local beers which were super cold and tasted delicious. The hubby got Panang Curry and I went with Gang Karee. Both of us chose spice level 2 out of 5; 2 is perfect for someone that wants more than a little kick. So good! Hearty and filling with rice and we both added beef to our dishes. The service was great and super friendly. The food...well that depends on you, I suppose. Our table of three ordered 3 different main dishes and 2 appetizers because it all sounded yummy. We were just underwhelmed on taste, temperature, and heat (spice level) of the food we got. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't good. When I say that, I mean I probably would recommend a different restaurant and wouldnt go out of my way to go again. The other kind of crummy things about the space they are located in. 1) hard to find parking 2) it doesnt seat very many people considering it has the potential to be a high traffic area. 3) the acoustics are terrible and the noise level will have you yelling across the table and leaving with a headache. The decor looks unfinished...but that is the look they are going for. So if you feel like you are walking into a restaurant under construction with bare walls and exposed ventilation, then no worries, you are definitely in the right spot. In general, I feel like tourists (staying at the hotel) will get suckered into overpriced, sub par food in an uncomfortable environment. Same for locals. Trust me when I say, you are not missing out. Not quite the vibe we are anticipating when my brother and I walk in on a Sunday evening. Busy, loud, super trendy place. I'm fairly certain all the hipsters in Zootown have crawled out of their creative spaces to congregate here. We're greeted promptly and cheerfully by the lovely host who offers us bar seating rather than a half hour wait. We'll take it! A guy behind the bar hands us menus and gives us a rather lukewarm welcome. I see the judgement in his eyes as we walk up to the bar, assessing if we're cool enough to be part of the scene. Upon a cursory glance at the menu, I ask for any personal recommendations. "Oh, I don't really work here," he says. "I'm a consultant." Ummm... what? WTF are you consulting? On a Sunday night? Is this code for free-range asshole gets to hang out in snazzy restaurants and act like he's important and eats for free? Sign me up, please. I can honestly say I've never been served by a consultant in my thousands of dining experiences. We've elevated into the stratosphere of pretentious douchery before even settling into our seats. 'The consultant' recommends any of the 'bomb specials' (however is unknowledgeable about the regular menu??). He did suggest house-made ginger beer (non-alcoholic) for drinks. This stuff was so damn tasty it was hard not to slurp it all down in one gulp. As 'the consultant' exits stage left, the actual bartender, who is even more aloof and disinterested, finally drops by to take food orders. An order of $9 dumplings for an app, of course. Who doesn't order dumplings? Even if it's $9 for four of them? I'm feeling noodle-ish, so I opt for one of the 'bomb' specials - the $18 Boat Noodles. How can a consultant be wrong? My bro isn't feeling so hungry and rolls with the lightest thing on the menu - the $10 Thai Peanut Salad. I order my noodles '5 star' spicy. The bartender gives the perfunctory warning about the hotter-than-thou spice level here. Ok... and? I suppose I should review pretentious spiciness scale and disclaimer on the menu before committing myself, yes? On the menu it states: 'We do our best to keep consistency in our spice scale. Our staff will inform you if our current batch of chilis contain higher or lower capsaicin levels or "spiciness" than normal. If you order 5 stars and cannot handle it, you will not be refunded. When in doubt, "You cannot unring the spice bell!"' I want to ring that damn bell! And ring it and ring it and ring it! If it's too hot, I choose suffering as my comeuppance for my arrogance and will devour every last searing, painful bite. In this case, I dismiss it as wise-ass embellishing and order my five stars without hesitation. The dumplings arrive and are almost bite-sized, as if it's a dumpling tasting flight rather than actual food. The first thing we notice is the dumplings are chewy, like the same chew you'd expect from overcooked pasta. The filling is a gravelly, dry consistency that falls apart in my mouth. Just strange, like a disharmony of textures and ingredients that don't like each other or want to be together. Not the $9 dumpling experience we are expecting! The Boat Noodles arrive and look promising with a healthy heap of chiles topping the bowl. The flavor of the broth is pure joy. Bold and delicious, it hits the mark with the sweet spiciness of the star anise, saltiness, and right amount of fattiness from the beef. As far as the spice? Well... waiting for it, waiting for it, and the crescendo of hellfire I'm ready for fails to ignite. I polish it all off without even cracking a sweat. The bartender is conspicuously inattentive throughout our meal, only bothering to appear after we finish. I'm presumably risking my life by eating your five-star spiciness, and you don't check in to see if I'm still alive or even offer a refill on our drinks?? Fuck you! After my empty bowl is returned to the kitchen, the chef pokes his head out to see who the asshole is that slurped down his five stars of spice. One shouldn't have high expectations for a salad, but the Thai Peanut Salad is a total failure. Thick sheets of unripened iceberg lettuce (???), tofu, wedged tomatoes, and fried potatoes dressed with a sickly warm peanut sauce. Who wedges tomatoes? Someone that doesn't like to use knives? The potatoes are an irrelevant smattering of tasteless chips. This is the We Barely Tried Thai Salad. There are many ways you can do this salad and this is what you come up with? Perhaps 'the consultant' has ideas for improvement. Would I ever consider returning? Nah. This place is so full of itself that it's insufferable. The Boat Noodles may have indeed been "bomb," but as far as spice level goes? TRY HARDER. The spice bell is more like a broken alarm clock. And $18 to $24 price point for hipster noodles? Pricing average folks out of coming in must be how they maintain the aesthetic. I'll gladly pay for quality when it's there, but this place is out of touch and too busy pretending to be something that it's not. read more

Server apologizes to the table next to us about their food wait time but doesn't acknowledge us at all. 2-top that was sat after us was greeted and order was taken. Waited for anyone to acknowledge our presence but nothing happened. We left. I was told that this place is awesome and has great pad thai. Based on my experience tonight, I won't find out. read more

I'm usually kind of a bland food eater so it was a little salty for me but this would most likely not be an issue for most people. I got the pad gar pow chicken with white rice and it was a HUGE portion! Staff was friendly...it is located downtown amongst the hotels so parking can be a nightmare. I have ordered take out from here a few times while I'm in town for work. The order system online is straightforward, and the menu is clearly labeled what is gluten free and what can be made gluten free. I like that there's a lot of different options besides curry, which I love because I like a little variety. I'm giving it 3-stars, because the food is so-so. It's pretty much one of the few Thai restaurants in town, and the kitchen staff understand what gluten free means. The food could have a little more flavor, and I find a lot of the dishes are dry and taste like they have been sitting under a heat lamp. I thought maybe it's because I wait too long to pick up my food, but it tastes similar when I have waited there while my food is being prepared. We had a very disappointing experience here. The place seems to have an issue with figuring out their spice level. My partner chatted with the server about not wanting any heat in his dish, zero stars, she said fine, no problem. I am on the opposite end of the scale and like a lot of heat. She said that the peppers they use are on the hot end this week so while I would normally order 4 stars she recommended 3. While we waited for our food to come out I overheard a waiter at another table talking about the heat level and that their curry dishes have about a level 2 star even if you order no stars. Hmmm. My partner ordered a curry dish and the waitress did no mention this. Dishes come out and his dish is way too hot ( I could taste the heat and I'm almost immune to a 2 star level). My dish had no heat at all. No red pepper flakes in it and the dish itself, Pad See Ew which I often have at Thai restaurants, was bland. We asked the waitress about it and she said, "Oh yeah, the curries are always hot even without stars." I then asked about my dish and she said she could bring something to heat up the dish. She brought out crushed red pepper and what appeared to be sriracha sauce. Not the best way to add heat to a cooked Thai dish. She did not offer any other remedy or offer to make my partner another dish. Rather then eat a bland meal and give my partner a stomach ache we left money on the table and walked out. Folks if your having issues with your heat level, and I'm not the only reviewer with this concern, learn how to educate your customers and offer the appropriate condiments to spice up a bland dish. And if you get it wrong, offer another dish. read more

Absolutely kept me going while I was here for fest. Tasted great sitting there after a long day of rugby and even better the next morning cold setting up base layer for the rest of the day. This place is great. I came on a Monday evening by myself and grabbed a spot at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and helpful they don't open until 5, and it got surprisingly busy on a Monday evening. The cocktail I tried was delicious, the dumplings were delightful with some fried garlic on top and the pad Thai was really yummy too. I tend to think I have a tolerance for spicy and usually get 3 or 4 stars. I went with 3 since it was my first time here - and to be clear, the menu does say that a 3 is "Thai spicy" and it is. The menu is a little limited (starters, soup, rice, curry, and noodles) which could be a bummer if you were looking for variety, but if you're indecisive, it works out great. read more

They don't take resos but 4 of us were seated immediately on a weeknight. The food was delicious and a lot for the price but very spicy hot. We got level 2 of 5 spice levels and even the "spice lovers" in our party had sweat dripping down their cheeks. Order included: Tom Kha soup--delicious but very very spicy (our only level 3). Fried dumplings were fantastic. The chicken Sate was superb. I would char the chicken a bit more but the peanut sauce was rivaled only by my own and one I had once in an Indonesian restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. The pineapple fried rice and pad Thai were both excellent but too spicy for a level "2". Huge portions to share. Great service and good price read more

I went on a not busy night and sat at the bar. A noodle dish took about 30 minutes to come out of the kitchen, and it was among the least Thai tasting Thai dishes I've had. They seem to use cilantro instead of basil, and the noodles seemed most like pasta than traditional Thai noodles. read more

I'm doing 3 stars but really it's 2.5, I'm rounding up because it's a brand new restaurant with a ton of new customers and I'm sure they are still ironing out the kinks of brand new staff, new cooks, in a new kitchen and way too many customers for the space. That said... I've been twice. The first time.. 5 stars. I had the chicken laab salad (why is it spelled laab instead of larb though?) and Tom Kha Gai soup. Both "expert level" spicy. I think that was either three or four. It was one star below the spiciest option. Ordered both Both amazing. The Larb though was really soupy and there wasn't much to it, but flavor was good. The soup was amazing... Absolutely phenomenal. Complex flavor, layers of flavor, the perfect spiciness. Now to round two... Second time I came in, ordered the exact same thing... Because I'm one of those people. And I'll just start by saying that clearly they had a different cook in the kitchen. It was far spicier than the first time, like unpleasantly spicy, and I'm an expert. The soup was nowhere near the same as it was the first time, one dimensional, thick and sweet coconut milk with none of the complexity of flavor. Really not good at all. To go from one of the best versions of that soup I had had, to the worst... What gives? It was only a week apart in my visits. I imagine for Missoula residents who have never had access to quality Thai food, this place is a shiny five star Oasis in the desert. It's good, its not great Thai food. I hope that isn't insulting (I grew up in Missoula and love it-but it's been a food desert). To start with, if you're remotely used to spicy food or want spicy food, Anything less than three on the hot scale is simply bland here. Four is likely where you want to be and we wished we had gone for the five. We ordered family style as there was ten of us. Usual assortment, Tom Ka soup, variety of curries, fried rice, and Pad Thai. Each nothing less than standard Thai food and nothing that would qualify as remarkable. Our server was great and the cocktails were passable. There are outside, street level tables that would make for a very nice dining experience. The one real downer of the evening was dessert. Bernices Bakery is a Missoula institution but the salted Carmel cake (weirdly described as a kind of Hostess Ding Dong-and nothing like it) was an absolute whiff. Way too much salt in the Carmel frosting and too much salt in anything ruins it. Glad Missoula has this really nice Thai place but don't think it's the gold standard in the Thai restaurant world. read more

For the price you get plenty of very tasty food and great service. We got 3 star spicy for the beef panang and it is pretty spicy, but very tasty. We got 2 star spicy for the pad Thai. Not only was this turd rude when my wife asked him the difference between a small bowl and large bowl of soup, in which he said "one is bigger than the other", instead of saying the oz size of each soup, he also gave me crap about asking for a plastic bag so that I could put my wife's food and her Thai Tea in there to carry in one hand. In fact he yelled, "fawk it's already in a bag". I would laugh if he was joking but this dude was legitimately pissed off about me asking for another bag for our order, how sad is that.
