I want to give Zoom Room 5 stars, but need to settle for 4. First, the good...no, the great: I took our new rescue schnauzer here for an evaluation, where it was determined that Georgie needs private lessons as he is extremely reactive. Annabelle, our evaluator, also taught Georgie and me a few things to work on, and even after the evaluation, I learned a ton and Georgie was already on his way to becoming a changed man! So we signed up for 4 private lessons. Last week we had our first private lesson, and again, both Georgie and I learned a ton! Annabelle really is a great trainer. I'm well aware of Aurora's reputation, but since it's a very long street, I didn't think too much of the location. After the session last week, a man came out of nowhere and asked for money. I politely declined and he started thanking me and then went into some weird swearing tirade. Okay, fine. We got in the car and I instinctively locked the doors right away. Good thing, because he somehow circled my car without my noticing, and then he quickly walked over to a nearby car and started peering in the windows before going over to IHOP. I went home and asked my husband, who has been up here working in various locations due to his job with public transportation, about the specific area and what he thinks. He said that even he wouldn't feel comfortable in that area, near that IHOP, etc and said he didn't realize it was on THAT section of Aurora or he wouldn't have allowed us to go there in the first place. Between that and our need to move out of Seattle within the next few weeks for his job, I ended up cancelling the remaining sessions. Shame, because I really like how Zoom Room is operated and felt we were learning a lot! I'm concerned about Annabelle and the other young lady working in there by themselves after dark, even though it's dark fairly early, still, at this time of year. read more

I took a break from Zoom Room for a year but recently started coming back again. I attend their group obedience and agility classes on a regular basis with my reactive dog, but I've been able to manage it very well in this class because everyone is so attentive to their dog. I never thought I'd see so much progress with my dog's reactivity until I started attending obedience here and using the skills I learned on our walks everyday. After several months of consistently going here, I can honestly and confidently say that my dog thrives in this environment. Melissa is an amazing obedience trainer and she helps us troubleshoot our training hurdles in such a creative way. She is very talented at what she does and really helped me reconsider alternative ways to get my dog to stop jumping on people for greetings (but still within the realm of positive reinforcement and force free training). As for agility, Agility 1 might be a bit slow moving because all the dogs are getting used to the equipment but once you advance to the higher levels, it does become a more efficient use of time and all the dogs seem to have a blast. I believe that Obedience 1 is a prerequisite for the agility classes but keep in mind that the agility classmates are all at different levels of obedience so you might have to do a bit more management than usual while you're in the waiting area. Some owners are not super considerate about breaking their dogs' fixation but with that being said, there is plenty of space to spread out from one another so I think generally it should not be an issue unless your dog is extremely reactive. read more

This is a great place for dog training. I've been to several classes with my Labrador retriever puppy. We've tried puppy basics, puppy agility, and play group. The instructors are knowledgeable and patient. Their directions in class are clear, and they manage the group well. My only complaint is that their classes are "drop-in" style, rather than a block of time with the classes building on each other. Sometimes in class we would do something new that we hadn't done before, then it wouldn't necessarily be revisited, because each class "stands alone" in away. Overall, great place for dog training and I recommend their classes. read more

This is an update to an earlier review. I had reviewed zoom room a few years ago and only recently saw Cheryl's response. I was honest and thoughtful when writing my initial review. My husband and I both have a much different recollection than Cheryl's public response- which doesn't add up if you read my original review. Both her response and reaction years ago when I point blank asked if someone complained about my dog, cause me to suspect the case with the drastic change. My dog looked at another dog the wrong way during a tricks class with no contact or lunging and this was threatening? Puh-lease. Very mixed impressions of Zoom Room. We've been 12 times with our puppy over the past 2.5 months. Over those sessions there has been enormous staff turnover and a lack of consistency in several areas. 1. Feedback during play groups. We used to hear owners getting a lot of feedback about their dogs' behavior, helping inexperienced folks interpret dog social behavior. Other times, no one explains anything. This means some attendees really miss out on news they could use about their dog and their play style and social behavior. 2. There are a few tools Zoom Room commonly employs with dogs who are over stimulated: group breaks where everyone leashes their dog for a few minutes; asking someone to bring their dog outside for a sniff or potty break; pulling your dog aside and letting the other dogs play while they self-regulate down; asking you to temporarily pull your dog aside [while they self regulate down]. Unfortunately I have observed a few techniques reserved just for breeds viewed as "aggressive," such as just holding your dog for half the session while they have to watch everyone else play. We have a very sweet doberman and have complied with every request to take breaks or pull him aside, but we do not get the same courtesy that we provide to others. He has to let others take breaks, but he's not allowed to take breaks. After 12 sessions, you know my dog is a big softie and won't get aggressive with dogs who get aggressive with him. I really have had enough of the breed bias. You will likely experience the same with a rottweiler or a dane--even if they're just a big baby like everyone else, they'll be treated differently than the other dogs at Zoom Room for reasons unrelated to their personality, behavior, or track record. 3. Inconsistent requirements. We were told a front clip harness was required, but they still allow dogs to participate without one, making it unfair for everyone who complies. DESPITE the breed bias we're experiencing, Zoom Room has been convenient and had good availability. The puppy playgroup generally went well. There is one woman who works there who we really like, seems way more knowledgeable than anyone else, we have learned from her. Thank you for giving us some early socialization opportunities and feedback. I just wish the positive experience would have lasted through adolescence. read more

This review is directed at Cheryl, the owner of this location. Update: No, Cheryl, you didn't try to help reschedule. I told you that we only had tomorrow available, because we would be out of town. We aren't from here. I was clear about that. You told me it was tough luck, you ridiculed me for my question about weekends, and now you are making excuses because I left public comments on Yelp. This is purely about your lack of tact and respect for your customers, nothing else. Excuses don't fix it. If you were genuinely sorry, you would have said so. My wife and I booked a half hour gym appointment for 11 am this morning. My wife woke up this morning with a 101 degree fever and a migraine, so naturally we had to cancel. Although there is a 24 hour cancellation policy, we were unable to cancel online and unable to call the location because it was after hours. So I waited to call at 11 this morning, when they opened. I explained that we had to cancel. Cheryl was kind enough to offer to reschedule, which I understand is not typically their policy. This was the extent of her kindness, however. I'm not even angry about the policy--I understand that we lose our money because of our inability to reschedule next week. That's fine. My problem? Cheryl and her atrocious, disrespectful, snappish, and abrupt manner. She was incredibly rude--she hung up on me and I had to call back. I asked her if she had any availability tomorrow morning, and she laughed at me. She said it was ridiculous to ask. It wasn't until I called back and asked for her name that her tone changed. Suddenly, she cared. Suddenly, she had an explanation for her behavior and her insincerity. What a joke. When I found out she was the owner of this establishment, I was absolutely astounded. That kind of customer service and lack of caring is unbelievable, especially for a business that works with dogs! I'm thankful that I avoided bringing my babies to this place. Who knows what a woman who treats people like crap would do to dogs? What could I have possibly done to piss this woman off so much? Does she laugh and ridicule all of her customers? I don't know and I don't care to find out. Avoid this location like the plague. Their policies and website are fine. But the management here clearly doesn't value their customer base enough to make even a fraction of an effort. read more

I can not sing Zoom Room Seattle's praises enough!!!! My boyfriend and I brought our GSD puppy Hunter here when he was about 8 weeks old for puppy play time. Immediately we fell in love with the staff (Olivia, Becky and the Head Trainer - Cheryl), the facility and the positive training methods that they use. Soon enough we had Hunter enrolled in Puppy Obedience 1 where he quickly excelled with the techniques Cheryl introduced and trained the owners - ;-) - to use! The classes focus on building the dog and owners skills and often your dog is advanced based on age. What is really great about the classes is that they build on one another (often reaching back into the past class to things your dog is familiar with, while simultaneously introducing new commands and tricks). This is a positive reinforcement facility with zero belief in negative punishment. Dog achievements are celebrated and even the "Uh Ohs!" are even positively accepted. We feel lucky to have fallen into a group of really wonderful dog parents, which only adds to the positive atmosphere and learning environment for everyone's dog! Hunter's development is spectacular thanks to everyone at Zoom Room and we couldn't be happier! Long story longer, Hunter is now in Puppy Obedience 2, Puppy Agility and still in Puppy Play time (at 18 weeks)! He also has gained a best bud (Theo, an adorable Labradoodle) and has made countless puppy and human friends! I am delighted with the Zoom Room training, trainers, and the facility. It's a plus that they also offer high quality training items, treats, and foods for sale. (I've never experienced, contrary to another reviewer's experience, ANY pressure to purchase anything.) I appreciate that parking is readily available. Plus, the classes are competitively and reasonable priced. My terrier-mix puppy is moving from Puppy Obedience to Obedience 1 classes and I am pleased with the growth he has made. He has also participated in some of their Puppy Play Groups. I find Cheryl to be amazing in how she trains the dogs' owners to teach their pups. She catches every little nuance in both the dogs' and handlers' behavior and responds accordingly. She is abundantly gifted and gets clear results. Know that it is imperative to be on time for any training classes. The brief initial play time that precedes the actual class is essential for effective training. Even a few minutes of lateness can have a negative impact not only on your dog, but on the entire group. You might not be able to join the class if you are late, and you will still be responsible to pay for that class. This happened to me once. I believe this is a fair consequence and reinforces the need to respect the group, including dogs, handlers, and trainer. read more

I would use great caution in regards to their play groups, and maybe not participate at all. A dog was clearly reacting, and the trainer in charge proceeded with allowing that dog loose in a group of other dogs. This led to a dog fight that the trainer did not go to break up, instead I, during my unpaid working interview, went to break up the fight and got bitten. I've worked in dog daycares and boarding facilities for years, this is the only time I've ever been bitten and it broke skin. I had multiple puncture wounds on my hand from the reactive dog redirecting, and they didn't even hire me and I was out of work unable to use my dominant hand for a month while it healed. What's worse is that staff mentioned that this dog's behavior has been escalating for a while, and they considered dismissing the dog from the class. And if I hadn't intervened? A clients dog could've ended up with a bite wound. It's super concerning to me that the trainer didn't step in to break up the fight between client dogs. The fight shouldn't have happened in the first place. For these reasons, I really can not recommend them for any reactive dog owner. Additionally, the information and training options they had for training a reactive dog were incredibly limited. read more

Perfect place to exercise your dog! Staff is friendly and the gym is large enough to play fetch. The agility equipment is nice as well--my energetic husky was tired out in 40 minutes with agility and playing with the provided toys. There's also a water dispenser with a bowl if your pooch is thirsty. The rubber flooring is great for traction and is nice for those rainy days when you can't go to the dog park. Lexi was rehomed twice in a little over a year before she came to us and when we began obedience 1 I thought we would never make it through - Lexi would bark during class repeatedly and she had very little focus. After beginning classes last November Lexi is now able to remain quiet the entire class with very minimal barking (1 or none each class). Lexi's stay and "leave it" are so much better than ever before too. She went from being a very nervous dog to quite a confident one. Zoom Room is amazing. Cheryl and her team did a fantastic job of not only helping me work with my dog to help him learn things like stay and to bark considerably less (which has been a total game-changer for our home life); they helped me to understand my role in leading my dog and the psychology behind his behavior. My dog was too excitable for group obedience lessons so we had 4 private lessons with Cheryl. It was the best money I've spent in ages, 100% worth it. She is a dog whisperer who can teach my 2 year old rescue to do something new in about 2 minutes, while teaching me to do the same thing so we could practice at home and really make permanent improvements in behaviors and habits. We worked on several new skills in each lesson. Doggie has graduated in his to group obedience class. He can socialize with other dogs at a dog park, and we can now walk through the neighborhood without him barking at other dogs--be they on leash, in their yard, or in their homes. Coming from another puppy school where I had a HORRIBLE experience, ZoomRoom has exceeded all my expectations. THE CLASS The classes have 6 puppies max and are run by a primary trainer and an assistant trainer. Both are very attentive and provide valuable information as they observe and correct how your dog behaves. They are methodical in the way they teach and they go around the room one by one to make sure that you and your puppy are doing okay or provide any guidance if necessary. If you have a highly vocal, energetic dog like myself, the trainers utilize methods in order to help your pup settle that way you can still maintain focus while listening to the lesson. They also print out homework sheets at the end of class for you to take home and continue working on more skills. THE FACILITY Modern and super clean. Everyone on staff that I've met so far are really friendly and very knowledgeable. I also love the fact that they have a store so you can easily get the supplies you need right there. They also throw events and photo opps and other fun stuff to help build their ZoomRoom community! The ease of use of their scheduling system is also a huge perk, I love the fact that you can pick and choose when to come in and you don't necessarily have to come every week if you don't want to. ADVICE The only bit of feedback I have is in addition to the homework, I would like a sheet containing a summary of today's lesson so I can take that home and review and further reinforce the lesson. I highly recommend classes here!!!! I've been taking private agility classes with Amber with my pitbull and it's been so positive and fun. We are able to work on her skills AND we've been getting her ready to take group classes by practicing on keeping her engaged with me using fake dogs that they have. I know that sometimes it's scary taking pitbulls to training due to their stigma so for pitbull owners - I cannot recommend this place enough! Great trainers, facility not super safe for puppies. This review is a few months in the making, in part because I wanted to leave a review without letting my frustration cloud my honest opinion. We had taken our 3 year old golden retriever to the obedience classes at the Zoom Room, and really enjoyed the experience. Our golden loved going to these classes and really enjoyed the agility lessons. The trainers here are very knowledgeable and work with you to learn the best practices to teach the pup commands. Even with 5 other dogs and people in the class, they still take time to hear what you want to work on and actively help you and your dog. I can't recommend these obedient classes enough, especially if you've got an older (fully vaccinated) dog who hasn't quite learned basic commands/advanced commands. My main issue with this facility is the safety of their puppy obedience classes. We took our 10 week old puppy to these classes and he caught Kennel Cough. We were overly paranoid about our pup catching something which is why we made sure to carry him if we took him out places and never let him outside unless it was in our own (fenced) back yard. We also kept our other dog from high risk areas (where other dogs go to the bathroom) and wiped her paws off if she had been outside. During our puppy obedience class there was a woman there who claimed her 10 week old puppy wasn't behaving well on walks around her neighborhood and on trails. When I heard that I was slightly worried that this puppy had been out on trails where other dogs go to the bathroom, but when the trainer leading the class didn't react, I assumed maybe I was being overly cautious. Four/five days after this class, my puppy was diagnosed with kennel cough. They do sterilize the facility for those puppy classes, as well as require updated vaccination proof. I do believe they try to make it a safe place for young pups, but I feel like they should have stricter guidelines for owners wanting to bring their dogs to those classes. read more

We love Cheryl and Anna and the whole team. We have a super anxious doggie and the work they've done with him has been so helpful. On more than one occasion, we've let them know our dog has had a rough week, or he has shown up to his private lesson scared after the car ride, and Cheryl adjusts the training to help him. She's always asking how he's doing and trying to help us think of ways to support him on our own at home. They love dogs and it shows. His experience with Zoom Room over the years has really helped him build confidence, and we love that he has a place to go where he feels safe and loved! We also appreciate the selection of toys and treats and such that they carry in store. I can't speak highly enough about all the trainers at the Zoom Room Seattle. My dog Pumpkin works primarily with Lexi, but we feel safe with and supported by the whole staff. Pumpkin loves her trainer and has made excellent progress in a few months. They have also been excellent resources for additional training, supplies, etc for things happening with Pumpkin outside their gym. We have been going to Zoom Room for 3 years. Cheryl is excellent. For some of you dogs and your owners, you should be able to progress through Zoom Room's classes and graduate. My dog is a bit more challenging than that. She is a shy, high strung, and beautiful dog. She is not an easy dog if you do not know her. However if you have been excepted by her she could not be more loving or sweet. (Likes humans more than other animals) We started off in solo agility classes, progressed to group agility classes. (She had a tendency to eat to much during these) but did okay. We then went to just solo agility because she needed to lose weight. The thing I love about Cheryl is she has molded the class to what Kira needs (and me). I DO NOT KNOW WHERE WE WOULD BE WITH OUT CHERYL AND ZOOM ROOM. read more

She has helped take the shy dog I started with in Agility 1 who would hardly go over the dog walk and through the tunnel and turned her into a much more confident outgoing dog- both inside and outside the ring. I've been taking my dog to the Zoom Room for a little over 2 years and it's safe to say, I'm a lifer. My dog is reactive-he doesn't do well around other dogs and most people - so we have weekly private training sessions with the owner, Cheryl and she always makes it such a great experience for both Kole and me. He has grown to trust and love her and her staff and that is HUGE. She is always looking out for him and making sure he feels comfortable and happy and has given me tools to deal with his reactivity that have been incredibly helpful. I have taken my two-year-old golden doodle to several different training situations. Including having a private trainer for a couple sessions. I think the zoom Room is by far the best match for our needs. I don't need my dog to be military sharp but I need him to basically listen and Cheryl seems to understand that. The schedules flexible and the people are really nice. We've taken 7 or 8 different sessions now of different topics and there's never more than 4or 5 dogs there. read more

A very clean, well stocked, and organized training school. A variety of classes are offered at different times, making scheduling easy. Cheryl and her staff are very knowledgeable, patient, and clearly skilled with dogs and their people. The only 'issue' I have, and maybe there's no way around it, is that the training is very treat-based. My canine companion has dietary issues -- strictly nothing except her very bland HP -- so all most all treats cannot be used with her. I just picked up some RX ones from the vet. I've been going to Zoom Room for 4 months now. I got a puppy 6 months ago and have tried various puppy classes at different locations. They weren't bad, but I felt like there was a lot of explaining (about 15 min) about what we were going to do in class for the day. If you've ever owned a puppy that is a ridiculously long time to have them sit there calmly. I have a hard time sitting there too. At Zoom Room she explains things briefly before each exercise. They keep class moving and me and my puppy are engaged the whole time. I leave with a tired puppy every time. That's the point, right? I have a blue heeler/pit mix which equals high energy. So finding classes that stimulate her mind and works her body are great. We LOVE the agility class. Next one to try is Urban Herding. Check them out if you have a puppy or dog. They offer classes for all age levels. read more

We have a very high energy puppy and I was anxious to begin socialization and basic obedience. As a new puppy owner though we were very nervous to expose him to other dogs until he was fully vaccinated. The Zoom Room goes above and beyond to make sure every dog or puppy that comes in is up to date in there vaccination schedule. They even clean and disinfect the entire play area prior to puppy preschool. We were very confident even at 10 weeks to begin classes there. Our puppy has learned so much and we were given the confidence to understand how to begin the training process. We attend puppy play as well as puppy preschool. Puppy play is in a nice large area and well controlled. Our puppy is learning how to listen to other puppies and has so much fun. Training is going amazing and we practice with him everyday. I trust in the staff there to help us advance to the next level. We'll definitely be taking more classes and always look forward to our time there. I would definitely recommend Zoom Room. read more
