I was headed to Astoria Park and craving a gyro. Zorbas came up on my list of places that were on my way there, so I stopped in to grab one to go. When you walk in there's a cashier to place a to-go order, and there are a few tables in front as well. The main dining area for those who are getting table service looks like it's further back. It was decently busy for a Thursday night. It's old school looking in here but charming. I ordered a chicken gyro and the cashier quoted me ten minutes. It was done in a little less time than that. The gyro itself was pretty good, the chicken was tender and the sauce was plentiful. I really wished there were more onions, tomatoes and lettuce on here though, it felt like I was eating mostly chicken. This four-meat stunner is accompanied by a surprisingly large salad and a side choice that hopefully will be lemon potatoes. I was unsure why I came here in August and posted only a salad picture. So this place was very cute and had a really good breakfast vibe, I ordered the Hungry Man Omelette and it came with Toast, Hash Browns and a Ham, Cheese, Onion Omelette. The Omelette is VERY delicious, the taste of the cheese in the onelette was perfect, I love alot of cheese in my omelette and they know how to out cheese inside and the Egg was cooked really good. The first time I dined at Zorba's, I thought the food was just okay. But since then, they've won me over with my to-go orders. Their plates (~$18-20) include a main, pitas, your choice of fries/rice/lemon potatoes, and Greek salad, all generously sized. And the tzatziki is quite delicious with heaps of cucumber cubes and garlic. Oh, if you're feeling under the weather, their avgolemono soup ($4-10) will pick you up! This is a great spot for some great Greek food when you're in Astoria. We went to another recommended spot with a 2 hour wait and came across Zorba's Souvlaki Plus. Gotta say best decision ever. The Chicken Souvlaki and Lemon Potatoes were phenomenal and quickly became a favorite. We became regulars during our short visit and the food didn't disappoint. Was here several months ago with a group of 12 as this place does separate checks for everyone which was nice for such a big group. We sat in the large outside area. The menu is a mix of Greek and general American diner food and the prices are overall pretty reasonable. I had a Loux to drink (sour cherry) and the Plaka Panini as my meal. This consisted of gyro, cooked onions & peppers, and mozzarella, with French fries & tzatziki sauce and it was $9 or $12 as a deluxe option. Said option came with French fries on the side along with coleslaw and a pickle. The sandwich was pretty good. The bread could have been a bit fresher but the gyro meat was pretty tasty and the mix of veggies and cheese made it satisfying while the fries inside were of course quite soft. The deluxe wasn't worth it with the fries being bit thick so they weren't that crispy (i.e. not good all around) and the coleslaw and pickles were throwaways. I probably should have just gotten a small thing of lemon potatoes or their spanakopita/spinach pie or something instead. Other people thought their food was fine also. For the prices, the food is worth it but there are tastier options in the area. read more

This place makes really great pork gyro and fries! It's always what I get when I come here. The pork is well prepared and nicely marinated. It comes with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and their white sauce. The fries are nice and crispy and not oily! They definitely compliment each other, but this time around i went a lil healthier with a grilled chicken salad! Friendly staffs and great service. The food never disappoints. Excellent Greek gyros. Simple, perfectly cooked, and spiced. Moist and slightly charred at the edges, giving the meat a variable texture. Simple and good Greek food...a frequent option for me! Huge portions. I'm writing this on the quality of service and the amazing horiatiki salad I shared with friends. The waitress was so incredibly nice and attentive. And the aforementioned salad--which is different from a Greek salad because it does not have lettuce--instead this one had big juicy red tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced onions and peppers and tons more feta cheese. Plus ample olives. You pour your own olive oil and vinegar. I'm Greek and it was one of the most delectable horiatiki salads I've ever had. Only experience here was take out, but the outdoor seating on a nice day made it tempting to want to return. I got the classic greek salad for $11 with grilled chicken. Authentic, filling and incredibly well priced! I did not add the pita because it was .75 extra and I could not justify paying for carbs but I got a pita in the salad anyway. Yum. The dressing was on the side without even having to ask which was good because I was late to pick up my order so I didn't have to worry about the salad being soggy. I have been a patron of Zorba's for approximately 10 years. This afternoon, I went into the store to buy two pieces of spinach pie. When I entered the restaurant, neither the cashier, nor the owner were properly wearing masks. The cashier was wearing her mask below her nose and the older/elderly gentleman (who I assume is the owner) was not wearing a mask at all. After I placed my order for two pieces of spinach pie, I watched the owner use a plastic fork and his dirty hands to package the food. It was bad enough that he didn't wear gloves to touch the food, but he didn't even wash his hands or use hand sanitizer. I'm pretty sure that's some kind of health code violation. After I stared at the cashier long enough, she finally pulled up her mask. This entire experience was shocking because neither of these people seemed to realize/care that there is a deadly COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging NYC. Since Zorba's clearly doesn't care about the health & safety of their customers, I'm saying goodbye- I hope not following a simple safety protocol was worth losing a customer. read more

The various meals I ordered were great but I also ordered a few drinks along with the food but although they did follow instructions no ice but the restaurant is not at fault, the person or manager did not represent the person who was handling the drinks. he/she did not read the instructions or does not have common sense. If someone wants something sweet , you don't add lemon to lemonade or tea because lemon absorbs the sugar. Sadly these days the options are not as abundant so when you get a hankering for a basic souvlaki dinner Zorba's on 23rd avenue, right down the street from the Ditmars stop of the N train is pretty much one of the very few options. Family run for years, Zorba's has the vibe of a little restaurant you might find yourself in on a hot Greek afternoon while touring one of the gorgeous Greek islands. Now if you're looking for a Greek speciality like "Mousaka" or "Pastichio" theres a much better option next door at Stamatis or take the N train down to Broadway for a meal at Bahari. Zorba's is for souvlaki. You can get the Greek classic in pork, chicken or lamb and it comes with a choice of Greek rice, fries or lemon potatoes; a side Greek salad and warm pita bread. The portion is decent. They give you ONE pita bread, but I think a basket of several would be much better. I give Zorba's 4/5 stars because their souvlaki dinners are great and I value family and tradition. I'd have given them 5 stars if they'd reward regular customers (I go there what, once a month?) with a piece of "baklava" and if the owner wouldn't sit there like a grumpy old man with a puss on his face. My husband and I ordered delivery for dinner a little over a week ago, and today we stopped by for a casual, quiet lunch in the backyard. He had the chicken Souvlaki plate with rice and salad, and I had a Greek salad with pork gyro and a side of tzatziki. We each had a glass of house wine. Our server today was very friendly and attentive (wish I was better with names!). My husband's chicken Souvlaki was tender and juicy, and the "side" Greek salad it came with was much bigger than he expected, and was topped with fresh feta. My Greek salad was wonderful, topped with perfectly cooked pork gyro, and their fresh tzatziki sauce is still my neighborhood favorite-- it has a smooth consistency with a really nice bite of fresh garlic. Made me question if I really was in NYC... Anyway, my friend and I decided to split a small greek salad to start, and then go halfsies with the gyro pita and souvlaki pita. The greek salad was on point - very fresh veggies, perfectly dressed, and quality feta on top. As for the pitas, both we're equally tasty.
