    dakos salad
    Caroline S.

ahhh unfortunately i was a bit underwhelmed by the food considering some people say this is the best greek food in nyc. the dakos salad was very bright and refreshing the feta mousse mixed with the veggies was quite delish so that was good but the cod was just fine. definitely well cooked but i've had better cod in my life. in fact i think the trader joe's black miso cod is a better cod texture lol oops. however, the service was truly amazing and the vibes were top notch. the staff were so kind and patient with us and the space is truly beautiful. the garden was closed for a private event but the staff let us take a peek and it was very cute. overall idk if i would come back for the food but it was definitely an amazing experience!!!

I came here for dinner with my girl friends one evening and we had a great time. This Greek spot in Astoria has been rated as Top 50 NYC (on Beli) and I can definitely see why. I recommend booking a RVSP for their indoor garden area if possible as that portion of the restaurant is stunning (pic included). Nonetheless, both their regular indoor and indoor garden area is very reminiscent of Greece. Service was great. We got their fried calamari, dakos salad, spinach pie, and safritos. Everything was great. While I thought that their fried calamari and spinach pie was pretty standard, I truly enjoyed their safritos and dakos salad. Their safritos beef shoulder was so tender and you had the option to eat it with beans, lemon potatoes, or fries. We chose their lemon potatoes and thought that it paired so well. Their dakos salad was also light, refreshing, but so flavorful. Amazing meal and probably my favorite Greek restaurant in NYC.

How does this place only have 63 reviews? OK, this place was straight fire! I am so glad that I came here. Saw this place on Reddit, was a little bit scared because there are other places that were more highly recommended, like the Tavern's nearby, but this was only one with a reservation. I was not about to haul my butt all the way to the last stop on the subway, if I were not to have an incredible meal. I was not disappointed, except perhaps for a smidge, when my plate of Sofrito came out, it just looked very bland, and not very appetizing. However, my stomach was very satisfied. My mind got changed when the food actually entered my mouth, and I have been craving it again ever since. The dakos salad was also so colorful and fresh, a little bit too sweet, but I would totally come back again for that. The staff were pretty nice, and the restaurant is beautiful.

Yes! Will be back. The service is friendly and the space is gorgeous, picture ready. Perfect for girls night or family dinner. I loved every single dish . My favorite was the grilled octopus and the chicken kontosouvli.

Ambrosia Garden has restored my faith in Greek cuisine. The table has agreed that the food here is better than the food in Greece. Bold statement I know but from three different people who visited multiple cities in Greece, something must be brewing here at Ambrosia Garden. First off, the decoration/ambiance transported me back to a Greek island with the white interior, cool breeze (from the AC), decorated with olive trees. Combined with the welcoming and friendly service, it's like we have Greece at home. Food was spectacular, one dish after another! From the succulent shrimps on a bed of tomato based orzo, to the perfectly cooked octopus, and the lemon potato wedges. I can't tell which dish wins the fan fav cause every dish hold a special place in our tummy. If this is your first visit (like ours), I'd highly recommend the grilled octopus, moussaka croquettes, spanakopita salad, garides (shrimp) orzo, and end with the bread pudding! Looking forward to come back soon and hopefully get to try the ribeye steak this time.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the service was nice. The staff was attentive and ready to answer our questions. I thought the food was delicious overall, but there were some items that were meh. But the (free) bread was sooooo good - it was super fluffy and I couldn't stop reaching for it. We ordered the mix grill platter and the youvetsi orzo pasta, which was the perfect amount of food for 5 people. For the mix grill platter - the sirloin was perfectly seasoned, the beef patties were crumbly and flavorful, and the loukaniko was deliciously charred. However, the chicken skewers were a bit dry and the lamb chops were not as tender as I had expected. Their tzatziki is very mild and bland and their pita bread was on the thinner and harder side. The orzo dish was just okay. The pasta itself was cooked well, but I found the taste to be almost watered down; the beef chunks were also dry and failed to soak up any of the flavor from the tomato sauce. All said, I still really enjoyed my experience. I'd love to go back and try the seafood platter.

I wanted to enjoy my birthday dinner at a place with a lovely ambiance and good food, Ambrosia Garden fit the bill. Arriving for an early dinner we were able to be seated in the front dining room without a reservation, however reservations are recommended. The front dining room has a feel like you are dining on an outside patio and is dimly lit. I loved the feel of it. The backyard garden is also indoor, but bigger, brighter and a bit more robust. Our waiter was lovely and ready to answer questions and offer up recommendations on the menu. Some herbed bread with olives and some lovely olive oil was brought ti the table. We started with the trio of spreads which included spicy feta, tzatziki and smoked eggplant served with some warm pita bread. Each dip was well made and wonderful. The Sofrito is braised beef in a luxurious sauce over twice fried potatoes. It was excellent, the beef was fork tender, paired with the sauce and crispy potatoes made each bite heavenly. The Patstitsada Kima was like a deconstructed Pastitsio and amazing. Large pasta loaded with beef cooked in a warmly spiced sauce and topped with bechamel. They have a nice selection of cocktails and Greek wines. We ended the meal with dessert and while the name of it escapes me, it was like a trifle with honey soaked bread on the bottom and topped with custard, whipped cream and chopped pistachios. Also to note all desserts are homemade in house. So happy to have found Ambrosia Garden and can't wait to return.

Easily five stars. This was one of the most memorable dining experiences I have ever had. I was seated in a charming indoor patio, beautifully decorated to evoke a Mediterranean atmosphere. It felt relaxing. The service was attentive and excellent. The meal began with a complementary basket of sundried tomato bread. For the main entree, I ordered the garidas youvetsi - its shrimps, and I mean impressively large shrimps served with tender orzo pasta in a wonderfully rich and flavorful tomato sauce. It was absolutely fantastic! I would definitely come here again.

Was referred by an elderly friend and she raved highly about this place. Only reason this place receives a 4 rating is because of the food as it was mediocre. We expected the food to be a bit more authentic but I understand this place has a bit of twist to Greek food. Our waiter Stergio was amazing and patient esp given it was only his second day being full-time. Absolutely loved the decor and the greenery. We mostly appreciated the no rush given we were the last customers in there.

Super pretty place with lovely decor. I got a drink there but food to go. The waiter was extremely nice and everyone had great service. My issue with the food. I ordered a Gemista (to go) and the presentation was gorgeous - ignore the picture - but it had too much oil. To the point I could taste the oil they were using. For such a beautifully decorated place, you would have expected the food to taste better. Quick note, the music was also kind of annoying to the point I wasn't able to focus on what anyone else at my table was saying. Changing the music or lowering it would be ideal.

I almost never eat Greek food and this restaurant definitely made me start doubting my food choices. Unfortunately I am not sure what was ordered to be shared but everything was seriously delicious. There was not a dish in the table that was left unfinished. The pita bread was nice and soft, even the potatos were seasoned so perfectly with a nice lemony tang. The servers were extremely sweet and were very helpful when it came to my current dietary restrictions and even gave us free cake on the house because we were out celebrating a milestone. My friends and I left with full bellies and hearts and I will be back again to try more of their amazing foods! Also, the restaurant may look small, but don't worry if you come with a big party, there's more hidden seating in the back!

What a great find and addition to our Astoria-Greek repertoire. Reservation. on Resy. We sat inside the front room which makes you feel like you are in Greece. They have outside in front tables and also an outdoor-ish garden room in the back that is lighter and airy but noisier. You cannot go wrong with the trio of dips. Best roasted eggplant. Delicious tzatziki and mildly spicy feta. Great with their grilled pita. Then roasted lemon chicken with potatoes. Chicken was average but potatoes were outstanding. Garides saganaki app for my main. Loved the tomato and feta sauce!!!! They gave us complimentary orange cake that was sweet and delicious. We ordered Greek coffee and ouzo to round it out. So glad we came and will absolutely be back. Service was lovely from start to finish.

The hubs and I had date night and we chose to dine at Ambrosia Garden after hearing and reading all the wonderful reviews. The service, for starters, was amazing. Everyone was so attentive. Water was constantly refilled. We were checked in on the perfect amount of time without being overbearing. Service was all smiles and everyone couldn't have been more pleasant. The atmosphere was like being transported to Greece, though I've never been, this is what I believe it would look, feel and sound like. Pleasant Greek music played in the background, perfect volume, perfect selection. The menu was that of a special one as we visited on Valentines Day (I'm a bit behind in my reviews). We were started with a basket of sundried tomato bread, which was complimentary. Delicious. A well seasoned bite to accompany our Hellenic Salad and grilled marinated Octopus. I love a salad that isn't overwhelmingly comprised of lettuce. In fact, when it's not even present I get a much more delicious bite. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, shallots, olives, capers, feta, oil and vinegar. A briney, bright, acidic crisp start to what was to come! Highly recommend. The octopus was one of the most tender, delicious octopus I've ever had the opportunity to indulge in. Another dish I'd recommend you having. He had the steak which he said was cooked to perfection with "cretan fries", which were just perfectly seasoned crispy AND creamy potatoes. A generous portion of flaky salt and I believe a horseradish sauce accompanied the dish tying everything together to make for an amazing bite every time. I had the sofrito, which was a slow braised beef shoulder (unbelievably tender) in a delicious sauce accompanied by the same yummy cretan fries. So good. The portions were HUGE and we left with generous leftovers because we had to save room for dessert. Dessert was perfectly balanced. Not overly sweet. Just the right amount. We shared the Sage Panna Cotta and Pistachio Profiterole. The panna cotta was SO unique! I've never had anything like it by way of a dessert. Greek yogurt, sage (WHAT? Mind blown) Lemon oil, Honey and lemon marmalade made up this flavor explosion. We agreed that this was the better of the two but that didn't mean the profiterole didn't live up to its deliciousness. A pistachio filled choux dough enveloped in warm milk chocolate, fresh strawberries, ground pistachio. So good but a familiar bite. I'd love that panna cotta every day of the week. Overall, I very highly recommend Ambrosia Garden. The price was on par with what we received and I would gladly give them my money time and time again if this is what to expect every visit. It's really that good.

The place is pretty large despite it looking somewhat narrow outside but there's a lot of seating inside as well as some seating outside in the case the place gets crowded, fortunately I didn't have to worry about that. Credit to the service, two waitresses went above and beyond their duty to made sure I had a satisfactory time at their Restaurant and I will always give credit where it's due to the wait staff doing a solid job. Even though I'm giving this place a 5 star rating, there were two small grievances. I did have to wait for some time for my food to get to my plate, like an almost 15 minute wait, but for what it's worth, the food was solid. The other one, which was a small annoyance was that the empanadas I ordered along with the Pollo A La Brasa were forgotten and if I hadn't brought that to the waitresses attention, I would've went without my appetizers. They did make it up by giving me a complimentary margarita. I do appreciate the gesture, but I'm not a strong drinker, I'm a lightweight and after one sip of that, it was powerful enough to almost knock me out. I tried to endure it but I only finished half of that before giving up. Despite that, just the show of them caring for the customer is enough for me to know that they value their patrons here. That's more than enough for me. I like the vibe of the place, it has a Latin fusion feel but majority of their food is affordable. I'd make a 2nd visit here in due time.

He even took my godsister's margarita without her noticing, even though there was some left. I'd understand if they needed the table back and wanted us to wrap up but the dining room was pretty empty. Cleaning up aggressively while we're clearly still eating just makes an unpleasant experience.
