Dinner at Annasa Taverna the day before Mother's Day -- no reservations, but I really appreciated that they still welcomed us in. The whole vibe felt warm and made it a really nice family dinner. My grandma and mom both seemed happy and enjoyed everything, which honestly mattered most. We ordered two Greek salads (definitely could've gotten away with just one -- they're huge and very shareable). We also had the Mediterranean spreads: tzatziki, eggplant, and a spicy spread. Everything was solid and great for sharing. We also got grilled octopus as an appetizer -- super tender and really well done. For my main, I had the grilled deboned red snapper -- absolutely delicious. It came with a creamy lemon sauce on the side that you can pour over the fish, plus oregano fries and grilled vegetables. The veggies were amazing, especially the grilled onions that just melted in your mouth. We also ordered takeout: kefte kebab with fries, which was maybe smaller portion but it was good flavor. For dessert we had a baklava float (I think that was the name) with coffees to finish. Very happy with the whole meal overall. I feel very conflicted about leaving this review. The food was great but slightly salty, but still very tasty. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly, and overall I had a good time. However, since we came on Valentine's Day, I noticed that many couples were given roses as they walked in. My partner, who was the only Black woman in the restaurant, did not receive a rose when we entered. At the time, we didn't think much of it and continued with our dinner. As the evening went on, though, we saw more couples come in and receive roses. Some of these couples were seated next to us, which left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't help but wonder what criteria the restaurant used to decide who received a rose and why so many couples who arrived after us were given one. Unfortunately, this experience spoiled my enjoyment of the restaurant and left me feeling conflicted. From the moment we arrived, the service was top-tier above and beyond. Parking tip: Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but there's a two-hour MPG Parking Garage directly across the street. You grab a ticket there, and once you're done dining, the restaurant signs it parking is fully accommodated as long as it's within two hours. Super convenient. Let's talk appetizers because they STOLE the show. They start you off with table bread and hummus, and let me say this: I am not a hummus person, but this hummus? It absolutely hit the spot. Even if you don't like hummus, try it. We ordered the Mediterranean spread Tzatziki - fresh and delicious Tirokafteri (spicy feta) - PHENOMENAL, easily a standout Eggplant - very bland; I'd skip this unless you truly love eggplant Still, one miss didn't take away from the experience at all. My fav thing to do is get dressed up and go to dinner. My family and I came here on a summer Saturday night. Reservations are highly suggested..... it was packed when we arrived at 8pm. Within minutes we were greeted and shown to our table. We did wait a bit before our waiter came over to introduce himself. By the time he did we had already looked over the menu and placed our entire order. The romaine salad and Greek meatballs were some of the best I've ever had! We had the Saganaki and beet salad for our appetizers. The Saganaki was very good, but the beets in the salad tasted like it was straight from a can. For entrees we had the filet and kofta kabobs and sea bass plaki. The kebabs were good, but the sea bass plaki was very bland. I really wish I could give this place 5 stars, but I can't bring myself to do that. The food was amazing. It was Mother's Day and fairly busy, but not as busy as I've been to other restaurants which were more able to handle the volume. We were told that we had a time limit of 2 hours, because they need the table, yet... It took over an hour to receive our main course. Without anyone telling us anything. After we became frustrated and asked we were told "five minutes or less" which was false information, because it came out in like 15 to 20 minutes. We ate our food quickly. At that point we were very hungry. We had to wave down our server to ask for the check. When he arrived he asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu or have some coffee. With the time we waited coffee should have been offered to us for free at that point. Any sort of gratitude would have been nice, but hey they didn't even really come often enough to refill our water so what am I thinking? The ambiance was beautiful. Nice artwork and lighting. I'd also like to add that it seemed like they paid closer attention to the larger groups & less to the smaller families. Overall a good experience food wise. Doubt we will ever return. read more

It could have been crispier but the flavour was good. And we LOVED whatever creamy basil dipping sauce came with it. Cons: our entrees. We both ordered meat (medium rare) and it was horrible. My lamb chops were complete inedible rubber, the kind where it feels you're literally chewing on plastic forever until you eventually spit it out, which I did. And the NY strip, even though also ordered as medium rare, was completely dry and overcooked. Both were gross and we left hungry even though we paid $$$. First things first- the Madame Onassis drink is absolutely amazing!!! As a peach lover, it was first love at first sip- the cocktail reminds me of a peach candy/ boba tea. Celebrated our friends big birthday at Anassa and it was a success, thanks to her boyfriend for planning. The place was decorated so cute and the plates and glasses were so pretty. The hostess and waitress of ours (Melanie & Naomi) were so friendly and welcoming. We had a large party of about 15 people and they took care of us really well. Most guests around us were middle-aged and clearly there for a relaxed dinner, not a party vibe, so the soundtrack didn't match the crowd or the otherwise upscale feel. If the restaurant dialed the volume down and chose a playlist that complements the dining atmosphere, this would be an easy "recommend." I came here for dinner with my fiancé and his family for a wedding celebration of family friends. I had never been to any of the locations for this restaurant but I was very happy to come to the one in Astoria as my introduction. This is a newer location, it is spacious, open and has a trendy feel. The rustic decoration makes it feel like you are in a nice winery in Greece. They had a pre-set menu for our party of 13 people that was beautifully printed with a cute design and the names of the couple. The meal had abundant food and drinks, it was truly a great environment for a celebration. The waiters were very attentive of our table and it never felt like anything was missing. I tried some white wine and it was refreshing, smooth, and dry. For food, we tried a myriad of things and everything I sampled was delicious. - Greek salad: refreshing produce, with the perfect amount of feta and olives. One of my favorite Greek salads that I've had at a restaurant. - Dips: we tried the tzatziki, eggplant, and tirokafteri which came with generous amounts of cut pita (made it super easy for sharing). The eggplant was creamy and garlicky. The tzatziki was refreshing with the cool yogurt and aromatics. The tirokafteri had a spicy salty punch that was delicious on its own, as well as paired with the other two dips in the mix, it had the perfect balance of peppers and feta. Excellent. - Calamari: best calamari I've had in a restaurant. The squid was flavorful, juicy, fresh and just very lightly battered (I don't love heavily battered calamari). Came with two sauces that were addictive and some lemon. Would come back just for this. - Kolokithokeftedes: first time trying these but very good! Crispy on the outside, with a very moist and almost a little sweet filling from the zucchini that is well balanced by a layer of creamy salty cheese underneath. - Branzino: got this for my entree and it had a pretty good portion size! The branzino itself was not as impressive as in other places but was still fairly good. The spinach rice was very yummy. - Lamb chops: exceptional! I tried some from my fiancé. I wish I had ordered this instead. These were tender, not gamey at all, and had the perfect amount of fats to make them feel satisfying but not too heavy. - Dessert platter: great option for a big party! This platter basically comes with almost all the desserts in the menu if you cannot make up your mind. My favorites were the portokalopita which was alike an orange syrupy pound cake, and then the cylinder phyllo filled with custard (I believe called galaktoboureko), it was so flaky and subtly sweet! The baklava was a little too sweet for my taste but also good. We ended our meal with one shot of ouzo which was delicious and went down smoothly into our full and happy bellies. Overall, had a great experience here as a guest of a big dinner party. I cannot speak of the prices or logistics of planning but the team definitely did a fantastic job of catering to us and making sure we all left happy, being attentive of us, making sure all our food came out at the same time. I certainly will be coming back to try more of their dishes and have more of their addictive calamari. Highly recommend them for a large party! read more

We placed an order through DoorDash because it was the only platform that offered delivery beyond the usual range--for an extra fee. This was specifically for **Mother's Day**, a very important occasion for us. Unfortunately, when the delivery person arrived at the restaurant to pick up our order, they were told that the restaurant does not work with DoorDash. I was then informed over the phone that you only partner with Uber Eats and Grubhub. If that's the case, why is your full menu available for ordering on DoorDash? This not only ruined our Mother's Day plans, but it also wasted the time and effort of the delivery driver, who traveled all the way to Astoria to pick up an order that didn't exist. Additionally, I feel compelled to mention that even when we dine in, the service can be very slow--sometimes it takes a long time just to receive a menu, let alone the food.
