I stumbled access this gem while I was casually walking by with a friend discussing that we probably need to stop for dinner soon. We causally walked in to view the menu and were immediately greeted and encouraged to take a seat to view the menu. Once I saw their fish display and so many seafood options I decided to get comfortable in my seat because we were there to stay. I ordered the Branzino with lemon potatoes. The portion of the fish was impressive and the freshness in taste shined through. I didn't taste any seasoning. The fish needed salt and pepper but nevertheless it was enjoyable. Great location in Astoria. Telly's Taverna felt very rustic and home made. Decor was cute, almost felt like we were transported to Greece. Service was great, even on a Sunday with large parties the food came out quickly. The bread and olive oil in particular was rich and specious. Branzino was flaky and moist, simply seasoned. Authentic Greek Taverna with on point decor which felt as if you were taken to there. Service was great and the staff had the ability to serve multiple large parties. My family and I are fans of Greek food and I had been wanting to try this place, i'm glad I did! We all got a combination of things to try and everything was amazing. The server was also super sweet, and was patient with us being indecisive. She definitely made the experience better! Our food didn't take too long to come out. My favorite things were the zucchinis , calamari, and of course the greek salad. Another thing I recommend for a sweet treat is Loukoumades, which I had never tried but they are fresh little doughnuts with honey and cinnamon. 10/10 I definitely will be coming back, and so will my family. read more

This was my second visit to Telly's, and once again, it felt like a quick escape to the Mediterranean. Went on a Tuesday night for our anniversary. We've been before and we live locally. It's gotten really expensive, so we both ordered apps a salad and the chicken skewers. I wanted the fried shrimp, but not for $44 ala carte for 5 shrimp. Literally just the shrimp. No side. Unreal. The fried zucchini was ok, Greek salad was the individual size but good, but the chicken was a fail. Very dry and not seasoned, at all. Fried potatoes were tasteless too. No seasoning. Service was good, just wish the table next to us had better control over their very loud and unruly 5 year old. Sadly we decided that there is better Greek food to be found in the neighborhood, and we won't return. I'm sure Telly wouldn't approve. read more

I brought my parents here for Mothers Day. I think the food was pretty good and my parents liked it as well. My parents love Greek food and have been to almost every Greek restaurant in Queens. Some girl on Tiktok said this was the best Greek food in Astoria so I knew I had to take my parents here. We had the Greek salad, tzatziki and calamari for apps. I loved every single one of those, especially the tzatziki it was sooo good. I had the pastichio, which was fine. My mom got the ribeye steak, which was also really good and my dad had the bifteki. Everyone was really satisfied with their food and I would love to bring my parents back here again. The interior was so pretty and our waitress was lovely as well. We will be back for sure. Also people have been saying this place is expensive...not really. All the aforementioned food plus three drinks came out to just over $200 without tip. On a Sunday night, this place was quite crowded, both inside and outside. We did get a table on the street. We split the whole red snapper, which was served with a bottle of lemon infused olive oil. And that was really all we needed. A little overly crusty bread, but that was fine. Sure I could've eaten more, but I felt content. Until they brought out the eight free donuts drizzled with honey and cinnamon, or loukoumades. Yes I said free. I think I took 6 down by myself. We also split a carafe of Greek red blend wine. Been here twice for lunch and after a terrible experience nearby I'd prob only come back here or Taverna Kyc. The lunch is so good when I'm starving after a stressful long morning. The menu is expansive and it is very easy to tell how fresh all of the ingredients are. Even the olive oil with bread is indicative of how much care and attention everything they prepare is made with. My favorite was the grilled octopus, which is just grilled perfectly for what is often feared to be "too chewy" of a seafood selection. The fish dip (taramosalata) and cheese (grilled haloumi) are excellent. And the fried meatballs are also perfectly cooked to a point where they are not greasy at all. I can't wait to come back here and will be doing so more often. Staff was welcoming and servers very attentive. My friend had eaten here many times and decided to invite us for dinner. Since dinner service were just starting we were quickly seated at a table by the windows. The place is large but had a cozy feel. Upon entry, you will see the fresh fish and meat you can order to grill. We decided to order the lemon chicken soup, small greek salad, spicy feta dip & grilled octopus. The waitress and waiters were attentive and filled our water when best empty. The food came quickly. As my friend remembered, the food were prepared well and entonces was tasty. I highly recommend the octopus, brazino, calamari, & anything grilled. I don't know... I really wish I had liked it. Everything aside from the seafood and meat combos is extremely overpriced for the neighborhood. The halloumi was delicious- crispy and salty- although laughably small at its price. You'd think a restaurant with a nautical theme would kill it on seafood but the flounder and shrimp were so dry and bland. The salmon was pretty tender but we still had to dump salt and pepper on it. I tried a friend's meat combo and that was MUCH better- more flavorful and juicy. The fried potatoes were solid, as was the complimentary fried honeyed dough balls at the end. Came here for a date night with the hubby and honestly, it hit the spot. We had a reservation and got seated right away - love when a place is on top of their stuff. Our server was suuuper friendly and professional, which makes all the difference. They started us off with fresh warm bread (like actually warm and soft... not that sad cold roll some places give you). So good. We got the garlic and potato spread (Skordalia). - kind of obsessed with it now. Also shared a Greek salad, and then for mains we did the grilled chicken with fried potatoes and the Branzini. Chicken was fine, not mad at it, but like... nothing to call your mom about. But that fish? Whew. So good. Fresh, no weird fishy taste, and they deboned it table-side which was a nice lil fancy moment. I lowkey wanted to eat the whole thing by myself. We wrapped it up with baklava, which was solid. The food was ok , but we would not come back here, because the service was abysmal setting the ambience for the evening. The female server who we had was arrogant and unfriendly. She did not introduced herself or-as our server. When asked about their daily specials, she said they did not have any & never offered suggestions. One of the first places I ever went to in NY! Came here with my cousins and had a very full meal together. Loved the end when they gave a free plate of their donut hole-like dessert. Every we ordered was pretty good - the octopus was tender, the lemon potatoes were cooked nicely, the shrimp and fish were very flavorful. The salad was pretty refreshing too. As far as the ambience - the outdoor patio was great for our evening but could see it as a good spot for lunch too. Service was good too - checked on us frequently enough. Telly's is on a relatively quiet side street in Astoria. The outdoor dining set up is very comfortable. The staff were all really nice. Got a complimentary small carafe of white wine for checking in on Yelp. We were started off with hot bread and olive oil. We had excellent grilled halloumi to start. We had grilled vegetables as an appetizer because we were tired of salad. They were good, but would have been better if we had ordered them fried- got bit on the ass for being health conscious. The entrees were excellent. The branzino was cooked perfectly and was enormous. The swordfish kebabs and moussaka were excellent too. Entrees are a la carte. Made reservations for my family here a week in advance for Greek Easter . We arrived on time and we're seated in the front "outdoor" section . Sure it's outdoors but it's enclosed with no air circulation whatsoever , it was so hot and sticky , no fans , no air nada . The table we were seated at was clearly a table for four and we were six people , we were so tight and uncomfortable, between the heat and no space it was a miserable experience and I couldn't wait to leave . I could barely get out of my seat without moving at least two people . Our waitress was super rude , you'd think she would've been a bit more pleasant being that it's a holiday . had a truly terrible experience at this restaurant. From the moment we sat down, the service was unacceptable. The waitress was rude and seemed rushed while taking our order, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than guests. When our calamari was served, the server spilled liquid all over the table--almost onto my clothes--and didn't properly acknowledge or apologize. The food was essentially thrown onto the table with no care. I specifically asked for my fish to be deboned, but when it arrived, it was still full of bones. When I pointed it out, they took the plate back and, unbelievably, started removing the bones in the middle of the hallway, without wearing gloves. This was completely unhygienic and unprofessional. Afterward, they brought it back and dropped it in front of me while laughing, without any apology. To make matters worse, the fish was cold, dry, and clearly not fresh. This will be my new go-to Greek spot in Astoria following the unfortunate closure of Zenon Taverna. I've been told that while there may be other places in the neighborhood better for grilled fish and meats, Telly's is one of the best options for mezzes, so no wonder I loved it as a vegetarian. Forgive my use of Turkish vocabulary to describe the similar Greek dishes, but the mucver-like zucchini pancakes were amazing, served piping hot with a decadent cream. The spanakopita came in a unique oblong shape, and was perfectly flaky outside while soft inside. We also shared two salads, both very fresh, and the lima beans were good. I'm really hoping I went on an off night because the meal was not good. I got the octopus, fried calamari, and combo dips with pita. The octopus was mushy and didn't seem fresh. The dips (hummus, tzatziki, garlic potato) were all uninteresting. The calamari was good, but didn't come with sauce. Only a slice of lemon. For mains, I got the sausage with leek. It was dry and too salty, and it only came with one and a half sausages (1 cut in half and then another half, probably to make it look like 3 pieces) for $24. My girlfriend got the branzini fish for $36 and it was bland. In terms of service, they never brought us our drinks. They handed us a check that didn't belong to our table. These things don't usually bother me, but became amplified because of the bad food I definitely won't be going back. read more
