What a great spot This cute bar, restaurant, pub offers character and fun. There is out outdoor seating in a really nice courtyard but we sat inside in a huge booth. Our server was fantastic. She was soo friendly and fun. We were asking about a cocktail list that they did not have. She offered to create fun drinks for us. The food was delicious. Came in Sunday 2/22/26 around 6:25pm. It was crowded and loud, which we didn't mind. They were on a wait - as expected because there is a show at the Van Andel tonight, doors open at 7, show is at 8. We had hoped to sit at the bar but there was only one open seat. We had beers while we waited for our table and the bartenders were great. Quick service and they were friendly. We were seated at a booth after 30ish minutes. Shaun was our server and he took such good care of us! Our refills were quick, he was so nice and our food was as exactly as we ordered. We had a deluxe pizza on hand tossed crust. I tell ya what - that crust is GOOD. The bottom was crispy and the end was soft and chewy. Decent amount of toppings too! We also had a Caesar wrap with crispy chicken. They add diced tomatoes here - and I like that! Shaun did ask if I was ok with tomatoes, he must have had people complain in the past to know to ask. We went with chips as a side, I knew I wasn't going to eat enough of the side to spend the extra $$ on an upgrade to fries. Z's is a downtown staple, especially late night. It was a busy weekend to be at Z's so things moved pretty slow however we always have a great time! It's one of my favorite spots for karaoke in Grand Rapids. I'd been to Z's many times for drinks, but this was my first time eating there. I had the ranchero chicken wrap and fries- the fries were obnoxiously good. The perfect bar fries. The wrap was also great, but a pretty standard chicken bacon ranch kind of wrap. My friend also had me try the buffalo chicken rolls (not pictured-oops)- these were like egg rolls with buffalo chicken inside, and if you love buffalo chicken, you will love these! He brought us drinks in a relatively short time and checked in on us enough but not too much. The other staff was friendly as well. The exterior seating was ok but a little crammed. Been here a few times. And every time it sucks!! Idk how they are still open!! But it is the only place around that is open late and serves food. Sat at the end of the bar where they place the orders. Was sitting there after ppl left for 15 minutes and no one would even speak to us. I really wish I'd made a better choice than stopping at Z's Bar, because it turned out to be one of the worst food experiences I've had in a long time. I ordered chicken wings and a thin-crust pizza. Honestly, both were mediocre at best, and I had a bad feeling from the start. The wings were too soft and mushy, which should have been a warning sign, but I went ahead anyway since there weren't a lot of other options around. Big mistake. To make matters worse, I ended up with full-blown food poisoning the next day--I've been throwing up all day, and it's clear it came from that meal. And the service was just as frustrating. The bartender told me it was happy hour but never gave me a happy hour menu. When the bill came, everything was full price. So what's the point of mentioning happy hour if you're not actually going to honor it? On top of that, the bartender said she was done with her shift but then lingered around for another hour or so until I left. She just wanted me to pay up quick for some reason. Just a ridiculous experience all around. Trust me, steer clear of Z's Bar if you value your health and your wallet. Awful. read more

I had a disgusting experience here on Saturday night around 10:15pm (1/17). The bar was packed, but a man (bald, orange jacket, black-rimmed glasses) was taking up extra space "saving a seat" with a yeti cup for a friend who wasn't even there. When I sat down to order food and a drink to go, he told me his friend was "on the way" and then immediately escalated--calling me a "b*tch" for simply sitting in an open chair to get to go food mind you. When my husband told him to be nice, the man stood up and tried to fight him. The lack of management is shocking as Z's used to be a great bar. The bartender and security watched a man VERBALLY ASSAULT a woman and try to PHYSICALLY ATTACK another patron, and they did nothing to help. No one was removed, and no one checked on us. We immediately left and will never return after this experience. I have called multiple times since to report this safety issue, but the bar clearly doesn't care that they are harboring aggressive people who threaten actual paying customers. It is a dangerous environment when the staff refuses to step in. Save your money and go to a bar that actually values the safety of its patrons. Couldn't recommend this bad less after this. read more

Well this place is pretty popular. I went at about 8:30 on a Thursday and it wasn't busy. Picked up around 10 when there was karaoke. I did not eat anything, just had a couple of drinks. It's dark in here. Pretty old. I heard it may be one of the oldest bars in GR. It could use some updates. They had decent beers on tap. Some bar tenders were great and others must have hated their lives. It's an average place. read more

I wanted to like this place but unfortunately it was not up to my normal food service standards. We walked in for lunch as a group of 4 only to find out that there was no table service. You had to place your order at the bar, and take your drink to the table. I had a chicken wrap that was mostly tortilla with a little chicken with lettuce and little more. This was substandard for the price they were selling it for. I feel i'm qualified to make these observations as a person who has been a leader in hospitality for over 30 years. When you work in hospitality you have empathy for the workers and it's not them, just a poorly operated businesses during lunch at least that should strive to do a little better. read more

I landed late and hungry at the airport and come to find that Grand Rapids is a food desert at night, aside from this gem that was recommended by the front desk hotel. This was the perfect place to visit. Great selection of beers and that meat lovers pizza hit all the right spots. I also loved that there was karaoke. Went to the car show and thought this would be a good place to go with the kids for lunch. They do not have a kids menu. The food was so bland my kids didn't even like it. Who can mess up pizza, tenders, fries and tots? I didn't get a refill the whole time I was there and they were even busy. Parked in the garage across the street as there are some other bars my group was going to. There's people smoking crack/meth 1000 feet from the door. Never seen that before. Tons of homeless sleeping next to the building. I thought I wound up in San Francisco. Anyway get to the door and guess who's working.... The bouncer reeks of weed and whiskey. We get inside get a drink and sit down. 20/30 minutes go by and I'm feeling weird. I wasn't feeling good decided to leave with the group and go back to my house and we're walking to the garage and I blackout in my friends arms. I watched my ONE drink from the time the bartender handed me until I left that night. Woke up in the ER! This bar need to be shut down for good cause I'm lucky it was just a roofie and not other drugs. This bar/restaurant is exactly what it advertises. You can get good FRESH food and whatever drink you want, watch some sports on the TVs and they are open until 2AM!. Unfortunately If you need a special meal at 1:30am or a table for 14 people without a reservation on a holiday weekend ten minutes before they close, maybe keep looking. We love Z's! We're from the Detroit area and whenever we come to GR, we're at z's all night. The food is delicious, and the drinks are cheap. After the wedding, around 20-25 of us showed up to z's. We sat in the front part of the patio where they don't typically serve you. But the girl serving outside was sooo awesome, and actually served our massive group with ease. She didn't skip a beat! The service, food, and drinks were exceptional. My mom and I wanted a good bar with all of the above plus a good place to sit and play Keno. They had all of that and even more than we expected. We got there at 6:00 on Saturday for dinner and stayed well past that having a great time with our server, April. The staff worked together as a team, from the bartenders, hosts, food runners, and even the manager. We will be back for sure when we're back in downtown Grand Rapids. Great spot for late nights eats! Although it's not that big inside, it's pretty cozy. Usually at night, you seat yourself, which can be kinda hard because the two times we visited it was quite busy.
