Hubs and I came here tonight for karaoke and some food and I have to say we are not disappointed! The karaoke DJ is easily one of the best if not the best DJ I have ever had the pleasure of singing with. He balances the music extremely well with each singer's voice which I can't imagine is easy in such an open space. It was loud for sure but every singer was in excellent hands with this DJ! I highly recommend going anywhere he is. As a matter of fact I'd love to know his schedule. On another note I got the wings with sweet chili sauce and garlic fries and it's been a long time since I've had wings as perfect as these were. The wings were cooked to absolute perfection! They remained moist inside with a beautifully crunchy and sticky exterior. The sweet chili sauce was just that sweet with a little kick not too much. The garlic fries were crunchy, perfectly salty, with a hint of garlic. Hubs had the Philly cheese steak which wasn't from Philly but was tasty nonetheless. Great job guys we will be back!! read more

Made it out the weekend/Saturday before St Patrick's to meet up with some friends we haven't seen in awhile. This was always a good place to hang out and at times sing karaoke; old stomping grounds. So it was great to get back again! A beautiful day so our group started outside on the patio. Fun time and crowd, didn't get too wild so we could socialize and catch the big ten tourney games as they got lots of TVs. Decent beer and drink prices but knowing it was going to be a long outing stuck to cheaper/value options. The food was solid bar food that we ordered: love the cheese curds but really dropped the ball as a few friends got the chicken sandwiches and they were massive and looked delicious! (So go that route) Definitely got the dive bar vibe still and somewhere you'd want to go to hang out. read more

the downfall of fulton street pub is the saddest yet.... fulton street pub was known for amazing vegan options. i heard their cook left and with him every good thing about this place. no more vegan options (except a vegan hot dog? maybe a vegan burger?). fulton street pub used to post on instagram really cool specials every week and each awesome offering had a vegan counterpart... it doesn't look like they do that anymore either. very sad - fulton street pub was one of the best. I might be a little biased since I'm somewhat of a regular--but this place is awesome. The food is solid for a bar/pub, and you can tell it's all made in-house. After around 6-7 P.M., it switches to bar service only, but that's no problem--they still run food to the tables all night. The bartenders are always friendly, fun, and quick with a smile. Fulton Street also has some great weekly events: Trivia on Tuesdays, Music Bingo on Wednesdays, and a lively Karaoke scene Thursday through Saturday. Drinks are cheap, and the pudding shots (more aptly named "Alcohol Ice Cream Cups") are a must-try. read more

I've been hearing from friends for awhile that Fulton Street Pub & Grill is the place to get vegan food. I finally went for the first time today, and it definitely didn't disappoint! I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted to order, since everything looked so good. Most, if not everything, on the menu is able to be made vegan and there's no extra up charge either. I've been seeing posts on FB about the vegan options this place has on their menu and a friend and I finally tried it for an early dinner. Our waiter was Tim and he was great! Tim recommended the Cuban sandwich so I ordered that. The sandwiches come with a side - selections were vegan Mac/cheese, kale salad, chili or soup. I ordered the soup which was a Curry Butternut squash. My friend ordered the Crunch Stack sandwich with the kale salad. The vegan Cuban had crispy tofu, sweet chili jackfruit, pickles, vegan Swiss, mustard and garlic mayo and was DELICIOUS and so flavorful! The Crunch Stack had vegan chorizo, curry black beans, onions, lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, vegan cheddar all wrapped in a spiced tortilla shell. Also absolutely delicious! Note: the negative reviews form years ago are not reflective of the current menu and staff You wouldn't expect it driving by, but this is one of the best restaurants in Grand Rapids. It might be number one of the Vegan/Vegetarian spots. The menu is innovative, affordable, and delicious. If you are used to only having one non meat option, this place will blow your mind. This is definitely not my favorite place in GR but I do need to say that both times I've been here, I've had a great time. For having so many one stars, this place has been packed both times I've been there. They have good drink prices, friendly bar tenders, decent food menu and KARAOKE. People can talk all the smack they want, but the truth is that people love karaoke. The atmosphere of the place is very casual and the food is very typical pub food. I've heard that the burger kinda sucks but the turkey reuben and the grilled cheese with tomato were both really surprisingly awesome. For 1, $1 pudding shots is a good start, White chocolate raspberry was amazing. Food came out quick, and was good. Had the ham and Swiss on a pretzel bun. $3 specialty shot of the night we got was orange creamsicle: burnettes vanilla and orange not a bad deal and real strong big shot. Great place to stop in for karaoke. We were visiting Grand Rapids for a brewery crawl weekend and our group was looking for something to do at night. Fulton's was close to our Airbnb and had karaoke so it was a done deal. Only caveat was that it was super overwhelming busy on a Saturday night. Half our group got there earlier in the evening and it was so busy that they had to leave because there was no place to sit. We came later in the evening and snagged a couple seats at the bar and as it cleared out a little later, we grabbed a table. My advice would be arrive early on karaoke night. It's a pretty large space with lots of booths and tables. There's a long bar that spans the building on the right with lots of seating. There are pool tables in the back and karaoke up at the front. Age demographic was mixed but mostly a college aged crowd which makes sense with all the colleges in the surrounding area. Nice song selection and decent acoustics. Lively crowd that was dancing and singing along and cheering you on when you sang. They had a decent bottled beer selection and could make a Moscow Mule. They also had chocolate cherry pudding shots that taste like ice cream on special for $1. Made for a fun night. I'd definitely stop in again. read more

During the Get Stuffed moped rally, dozens of mopeders descended upon The Night Cap to get sloshed and sing karaoke. With a huge interior and smoking patio, the bar easily accommodated the lot of us, though I was left wondering how dead it would have been had we not showed up. The bar's clientele skews older and is pretty evenly mixed between black and white lower- and middle-class people. I've heard the term "West Side trash" used to refer to The Night Cap's patrons, but I don't know if the label is entirely accurate. Everyone we encountered was polite and fun, with maybe a hint of scandal. Drinks were reasonably priced, although the only special was Jell-O shots. The bartenders gave me consistently heavy pours on gin and tonic. The bouncer was huge and super-cool. He arm-wrestled a mopeder, tolerated our pantless race down Fulton Street and even attended our warehouse party the next night. read more

I infrequently come through here to sing karaoke, which is fun. Lots of good talent and easygoing people. That is not the problem. The problem is the staff. I tend to go out alone a lot and, according to the treatment I receive from the staff, this seems to mean I don't warrant any attention. Came in a little early to have some food this very evening before karaoke started, sat at the bar, placed my wallet in front of me and proceeded to be ignored for ten minutes. Once I noted one of the bartenders decided to chill out casually sipping his water and checking out whatever bullshit was on the TV instead of tending to one of the few customers seated at his bar I decided to leave. I came to Fulton Street Pub with a group of about 8 wedding guests waiting for the reception to start. We weren't sure if more of us would (and we did, around 13-14 in total, plus a couple of kids) but the bartender was great, he was very attentive and made sure we had everything we'd need. I will say it was pretty quiet midday Saturday, I'm not sure what our trip would have looked like if it were a bit busier. There was a ton of variety for drinks, a little of something for everyone, and the stuff they didn't have in stock was far and few between. The food was great -- get the fries WITH the seasonings, the onion rings are bomb, salsas amazing and the chips tasted so fresh. Entertainment: The Nitecap is one of my favorite places in Grand Rapids to do Karaoke because they feature TNT Entertainment (easily one of the best karaoke/dj outfits in town). In addition to having a good selection of songs, good equipment and attentive karaoke hosts who actually pay attention to the mixer and work to make sure your voice sounds optimal - it's a good venue for karaoke because the audience is friendly and receptive. In addition to karaoke, the Nitecap regularly features live music. The Nitecap also has pool tables, several TVs that usually have sports on, keno, video poker, etc. Food: The food is very typical bar food. They offer appetizers (primarily fried) like chips & cheese, chicken fingers, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, etc. They also have a range of entrees on the menu that includes sub sandwiches, burgers and wraps. Other more substantial entrees include fried perch, steak, butterflied shrimp and grilled chicken as well as Mexican fare like burritos, quesadillas and nachos. I haven't eaten there since shortly after they opened (when the menu wasn't as fully-developed as it is now) so I can't really speak to the current quality. Drinks: On tap, the Nitecap has Busch, Bud, Bud Lite, Miller Lite, PBR, and a Seasonal/Microbrew beer. In bottles they have the typical domestics and a limited selection of imports (mostly Canadian) but also including Newcastle, Guinness, Heineken, Corona and some local craft brews. Atmosphere: It's a pretty typical space; essentially a big open rectangle with a bar on one side and tables spaced throughout. There's also a patio outside that has a variety of tables with umbrellas and they allow smoking outside on the patio. Did you butcher the cow yet? Have you ever wandered into the hole-in-the-wall bar only to stumble upon the perfect burger? I have had my fair share of these amazing experiences. They are those that bring you back time and time again. Unfortunately, this was far from that ideal experience. I have always been told to never eat at a restaurant that doesn't have a single car in the parking lot. I wanted to prove this theory wrong, but instead it bit me in the butt. My companions and I walked into the pub and grabbed our seat. To get the night started and pregame for the Michigan State vs Ohio State game, we had very delicious mint shots. They were smooth and delicious. We came here for food however, and ordered shortly after arriving. All three of us chose different burgers at 6:25pm. As we wait for our food, we watched Michigan almost get defeated by Northwestern. There was enough to watch on television to keep our mind off the wait. I looked at my phone next and it was 7:00pm when our waiter came out to apologize for the long wait. "The kitchen is running slow tonight". They must have been out back butchering a cow because I have never had to wait more than 20 minutes for a burger. Finally 50 minutes of waiting, they brought out the food, or so we thought. Two of the burgers came out and my friends indulge in their food as I sit hungry and patiently. Questioning how the food, they state that the fries tasted bland and thought they were cooked immediately and left out as soon as they ordered them. One burger was requested without mustard and pickles, but there was no doubt they incorrectly made that as well. Ten more minutes go by and my food finally comes out after my friends finish. As the waiter sets the burger in front of me, I irritatingly ask for the check. As the waiter walks away, we all notice that the first set of fries are half the size, and hot. My food honestly wasn't bad, but not worth the hour wait. I have had bad service multiple times, but typically the establishment tries to compensate their bad behavior with a discount or an authentic apology. My dad is in the restaurant industry and constantly talks about how servers shouldn't be awarded for bad service. This was the first time I have never tipped, and I don't regret it. read more

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. I walked in with my friends, and we were greated from across the bar. The bartender came, took our drink order and promptly forgot about us. Took allot term minutes to get our water. After the water was delivered, we were not given an opportunity to order food for another five minutes. We were able to order the Andes mint shot, which happened to be the bright side of the night. The burgers took an hour to come out and only two of the three came out with the first batch. Our third friends budget took an additional ten minutes. The fries were bland and looked as if they had been sitting on a table for twenty minutes before being served. TL;DR - YOU MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE WITH NO EXPLANATION ON KARAOKE NIGHTS !! DO NOT ATTEND SOLO !! THERE ARE BETTER KARAOKE VENUES IN GRAND RAPIDS THAT WILL NOT WASTE YOUR TIME !! --- Attempted karaoke night (Saturday) after bar hopping through a variety of dives in the city. I enjoy bar hopping in smaller cities like Grand Rapids as it's easy to cover a lot of ground on a scooter. I was dressed in business casual (red & white button-up, khakis, conservative, passport ID). Upon arrival I collapsed my scooter and it was stored by the restaurant staff. After waiting until I was second in line for Karaoke gray-haired, skinny, 5'9", blue-eyed (no name tag) member of the wait staff approaches me at the billiards tables and asks me to leave. He says the manager informed him to have me removed because I haven't bough a drink. I offer to buy a drink and he refuses my offer. I touched his chest asking for the name tag and he said "don't touch me". I ask to speak with the manager, he replies that he -is- the manager (he lied previously?). He attempts to corral me out of the restaurant but I've waited to sing karaoke on a busy night so I'd much rather resolve the problem -in- the restaurant and sing the song I'd signed up for, "Yakety Yak" by The Coasters. He tells me that I wont be getting my scooter back until I meet him outside. This "manager" thinks nothing of lying to your face, holding your checked items hostage, and taking advantage of your civility to manipulate the situation. Insulting!! When my scooter is returned to me at the door, this "manager" person has no valid explanation for me other than 'this is private property' and he can 'do what he wants'. I can only assume that because they allowed me to wait in line @ karaoke for 30 minutes the issue may have been some sort of prejudice on his part based on my slightly effeminate appearance (I have long hair) or some prior knowledge that I ocassionally juggle on stage at an LGBT dance club about a mile away. I gave him a piece of my mind from the curb for wasting the time I spent waiting in line & traveling 3 miles from the east side. Hope he apologized to the guests sitting outside; however, he's probably too preoccupied with covering his rear to admit fault. I wish I was writing a review about the food, drinks, and karaoke experience right now but this *turbo-clown* denied me the opportunity to properly experience Fulton Street Pub & Grill! read more

Food is really good, I like the burgers and the apps. More vegetarian options than you'd expect from a typical west side bar. Friendly staff, good service. One star might be too much. This place was awful. I was prepared to write off a lot of bad service and a painfully bad menu because I'm generally a fan of the bare bones dive bar. But, I stopped trying to even get beers after the gym rat bartender couldn't be bothered to actually see if I needed anything on two separate occasions (luckily the cute bar back with dreadlocks actually kept his eyes open). In addition, my friends and I went there specifically to have some silly karaoke fun, which never happened. We were there for 3 hours and never had our songs called. But, the same crew (who were not there when we showed up) kept getting up to the stage to seriously croon to shitty pop music. Which just left me thinking the real talent is not the singing, but the ability to crawl up one's own ass while simultaneously singing karaoke. I will not be retuning to this establishment for many reasons. 1. Their menu online is not up to date with items not prices. 2. They quoted me a takeout time of 20 minutes, and still we're not done. 3. Their salad was pretty poor looking, and not even made correctly, missing items, and dressing! 4. Their side of fries with the burger came with approximately 10 fries. 5. Their customer services was less then average, as the apologized for forgetting everything.
