From start to finish, Toby was proficient, communicative, and creative. When we first explained to Toby that we wanted to keep our flowerbeds, but get rid of our grass, he was very enthusiastic about how this would be possible. He explained that he would be able to use the existing irrigation (mainly sprinklers), but change everything over to a drip system. As we made decisions about plants, stones, lighting and design, Toby was very receptive to our ideas, but also had some excellent ideas of his own. We talked about the possibility of a winding path and he encouraged us to consider flagstones. He also explained how different choices could make the project more reasonable in cost. When he did make suggestions that added to the original estimate, he did not pressure us or make it uncomfortable; he just gave us additional ideas for us to consider. For example, we had not considered the possibility of solar lighting along the path; Toby showed us pictures of some lighting that he had recently installed and we decided to add that to the project. We are so glad we did! We also were impressed with Toby's creativity and resourcefulness. By rearranging some of our current in-ground plants and (with our approval) using some of our potted plants, he did not need us to purchase any new plants. From the standpoint of timing, the majority of the work was completed in about four days. We did then have a small delay because of rain and another delay because of the type of rock we chose (it was not in stock locally). Even with these delays, everything was completed within 12 days. Overall, we were very satisfied with Toby's crew and in particular with Toby himself. We would highly recommend him and his crew for any landscaping needs that you might have. read more

We started with just the lawn install and ground fabric with stones on top. In the process Toby and his crew found a non-working drain to prevent flooding and a rotten fence on the side of the property. I got three bids on this project and went with Toby. My back yard was overgrown. We also wanted to expand that seating area with brickwork instead of flagstone. Toby had the best price, and he was also a really good communicator. He verified what I wanted, drew a picture of what I had in mind, and always texted when he and his crew would arrive and leave. The project took 4 1/2 days. One guy cleaned up the yard and prepared the area for the bricks. Once that was done, two guys laid out the bricks. Existing flagstone was placed around our orange tree (not shown), which is a plus, since our dog would dig under there. When there was a concern on my part regarding how long the project would take, Toby handled it well. He really wants his customers to be happy with the work. He came out to discuss the project, listened to our needs, and provided design ideas when we were stumped about some areas. Toby came out and gave us an estimate for $50,000 to level our backyard,install artificial grass in front and backyard,install plants in front and backyard,remove sloped concrete pad in corner of the backyard,build and install a pergala in the backyard.We gave him a deadline date of December 2nd which he agreed to.He had the rolls of grass delivered and cut some for front yard which they layed in place but did not permanently attach.They built and installed the pergala.Toby installed rocks in the flower beds before they put the sprinklers and lights in.His crew was cutting our concrete pads in the front of the property without our authority.At the beginning of December after paying Toby 4 payments totalling $40,000 the back yard had still not been leveled.The importance of the leveling was because rain water would run toward the house and could flood our home.We told him we needed the leveling done before any more work was done.That was the last we saw of him.He left his tools and mess and never came back.We give him a rating of zero,Jonathan B. read more

Toby at Merida Blanca Landscaping is TERRIFIC! Super easy to work with, open to change orders, does a great job, and kept me very informed of their work times, scheduling, and material deliveries (which is a great benefit over many contractors I've worked with). They were here for 7 days and he found a huge invasion of roots from a small Vinca plant that was killing my lawn along with gophers and voles. This little shrub had roots up-to 2" in diameter for 40 feet into my lawn. This was unexpected in severity. He and his crew spent at least 2 days chopping, cutting and removing this crazy root system. They laid underground wire mesh to keep the varmints out at my request. They also replaced all my sprinkler heads, adding some sprinklers and removing others, basically tuned up the whole system. With all the root and varmint eradication they still completed the job timely and at the original, very reasonable bid price. Thanks a lot Toby... you'll be back!!! read more
