We are giving a 5-star review to share how impressed we were with our recent visit to the Armstrong Nursery store located off Friars Rd. We found the location to be bright and well-organized, and the service we received was exceptional. Two staff members in particular were incredibly friendly and went the extra mile to assist us. They helped me find a specific plant for hummingbirds, located the exact soil/fertilizer my husband was looking for, and even provided water for our dog. To top it off, we were given a hand carrying our supplies to the car. Because of this great experience and the support offered at this nursery, I have signed up to be a member, even though I don't consider either one of us gardeners. read more

You love Armstrong but the pricing can be steep for some of the plants. This store has an awesome staff - everyone's thumb is greener than mine. One gentleman took the time to help me plan out my garden (North, East, West, South facing plants). And his suggestions have been awesome. I have no clue in what I'm doing - I'm excellent at growing weeds - but everyone compliments my garden. Thanks Armstrong for making me look like a pro! read more

Worst customer service ever. Sales woman was argumentative and even rolled her eyes when we said we weren't ready to check out. Imagine that. A customer saying they were going to spend more money and the sales woman making a face. Clearly there was something wrong with this woman. She should not be in customer service. Coincidentally was talking to my parents who had the same experience. Will NEVER EVER be back. In fact, I think we'll take all our business to Walter Anderson on Enterprise St. or just go to Home Depot. Lord knows its so much less expensive. That's what we get for trying to patronize smaller businesses. read more

Upon arriving we were greeted by a gentleman name Andrew he was so kind and very knowledgeable about organic and synthetic pesticides. He educated the hubby and I on how to minimize the grubs in my vegetable garden instead of totally eradicating them. He then educated on how to deal with pesky problems with ants and aphids. We walked away from that area feeling like we were more educated than when we came in and how we would deal with it moving forward using natural ingredients first. This being our first time here we decided to take a look around at the plants and trees and begin to have questions about the pomegranate trees in particular, as they were not in the area as the sign placed. Going to the front we had been standing there for a little bit while Andrew finished with a customer. Coming from the back, Gina approaches the cash register along side a client who was shopping as well who just happened to be finished shopping. She looks at my husband and I and says whichever one gets to you first but will be with you in just a moment and moves the lady in front of us. The lady that she decided to check out in front of us was a little older, so I excused it even though it did feel as if we were rudely overlooked. If Gina appropriately had acknowledge us being there first I wouldn't have said... "we have questions about an item in the back so if you could take care of her first that would be OK with us" but we weren't given the option but I let that go. So as soon as Andrew finishes up with his customer, we begin to discuss our inquiries about the pomegranate trees in the back and stated that we were having trouble locating them because the sign is possibly in the wrong place or maybe they were just out. So we asked, could he take us to the location so we could look together as there are so many trees and shrubs. Now, Gina is finished with her customer and is wandering around the cashier desk and he asked her could she assist us because he could not leave the cash register. She then taps her wrist looking at him and us and says I have to clock out..... what happened to her statement "which ever one of us finishes with you first will be with you right away... so he says can you stay here and watch the desk while I go take the customers to look for the item and she says sure..... Keep in mind... We arrived an hour and 15 minutes before closing so we have been here and still have half an hour until closing time. My husband and I felt very uncomfortable about the customer service as it felt like Gina was really cold and rude. She didn't appear to want to assist us anyway as her face and body language spoke a thousand words without apology. I really hope this was a fluke day for her as I would hate to think that she treats anyone this way representing Armstrong Garden. Andrew on the other hand is such a sweet guy, I told him we wouldn't take much of his time. He then said that the store made a mistake and that he would move the sign because they indeed were out of the taller pomegranate trees and was sorry and would move it to avoid confusion. He then showed us a section that had smaller pomegranate trees called "Wonderful" and a "Azadi" Persian Pomegranate tree that hadn't matured which was fine. We ended up buying both along with a grape vine. If it hadn't been for Andrew, I wouldn't have purchased from here just because the interaction and feeling we got from Gina was really rude. read more

I popped in to see what is available at Armstrong since I haven't been to one in many years and now I'm a homeowner. I met Kayla and she was nice enough to tour me around and discuss some of my options, even though she's a merchandiser and not a "plant expert". She was so helpful and so kind! The options here are so nice, very elevated from HD or Lowe's, and I found a few fruit trees I'll come back for when I'm ready to execute my vision. read more

Armstrong's has a nice variety of herbs, flowers, vegetables and fruits. They are a little pricier than the garden section at Hone Depot or Lowe's but they also have knowledgeable staff to answer your specific questions. They also have in store classes that are really helpful for a home gardener read more

First and foremost, I highly recommend you talk to Andrew! He was very patient and knowledgeable when it came to which products to use for my garden. My wife and I spent about an hour just walking around looking at different plants/ trees. To be honest with you, we only came for organic pest control, but after talking with Andrew we came out with no pest control but two pomegranate trees and a maple grape vine! The place was clean and very organized. We definitely plan on add more trees to our collection! read more

Wanted to ask about ordering a specific plant from a known armstrong supplier, and the associate wouldn't even let me get a full sentence in before just interrupting and telling me she can't help, but refusing to refer me to someone who would saying "i don't even know if i can tell you that". She kept interrupting and not letting me get a word in edgewise that she couldn't figure out if "proven winners" was a grower, or a flower cultuvar, or a flower type. Seemed to do say everything to make me feel stupid for asking a question then throwing hands up to acquit herself of any responsibility. Very different from my usual experiences at other Armstrong garden centers. Needless to say, will not be returning. read more

Cute nursery that shares a parking lot with the new In&Out & Starbucks. There is a lot of variety to choose from here from plants, to pots, to wood chips for the yard. Indoor & outdoor plants to choose from. Strawberry plants are only $1.99 with strawberries already growing on them ! That's a pretty solid deal. One of my other favorite things about this place is the trees & plants mostly all come bearing fruit. It's so hard to establish trees, but this skips most of the hard work for you! Parking lot is huge & there is always parking no matter how busy the lot tends to get. Customer service is readily available throughout the nursery for all your questions. While here, I also so advertised they offer classes for gardening which is really helpful for people like me! read more

I recently had a big outdoor yard remodel and was looking to create a landscape from nothing. I visited three local nurseries: Walter Anderson, Armstrong, and Terra Bella. At each nursery, I asked to speak with their expert and told them what I was looking for and my requirements. I shared my plans and let them know where I needed them to fill in the gaps. Anderson - I love this nursery, but their level of expertise wasn't quite what I needed to complete my project. Instead, I had someone talk to me about trees and trees rights, and I learned a lot about different plants and trees. This helped me identify the ones I wanted, but it didn't do enough to move my project forward. I asked for design help, and they gave me a couple of phone numbers of contractors, but no one called me back. Terra Bella - They immediately connected me with the right person, and I unloaded all of my designs and information on different plants and trees I was interested in. They offered other help with the design, but they never got back to me. I called and texted my contact, but he never got back to me. Armstrong - I'd never actually shopped at this nursery before. I connected here with Siever, who is as unique as the name implies. He was knowledgeable and offered landscaping services through Armstrong as an option. But my timeline was too tight. Together with my plans and ideas, he helped me vet my designs. Not only was he knowledgeable, but he was results-driven and able to keep my project moving by providing all the necessary information. He was flexible, and when I made changes in the project, as I often did, he was very accommodating and helped make it happen. I don't know that I would have been able to complete this project on the timeline I did without his help. I definitely recommend you work with Siever and Armstrong gardens. Their plants and trees are also top notch. read more

Good selection, but if you shop here, don't expect even decent customer service. Walked right up to two employees to ask them a question on 5/6/25 around 1:30pm, a man and a woman, they both knew I was standing there. The continues to talk to each other moving plants around, then to my surprise, both walked away is separate directions never making eye contact or acknowledging me. At least a "we'll be right with you" would have been nice. I continued to walk throughout the garden for 10 more minutes looking for a specific plant passing up more associated and none even looked up at me. To the store manager, please train your employees on some decent and basic customer service! Sadly, I won't return or ever recommend. Thank you! read more

Went by to see if they had any bamboo. They didn't. They had a cart full of (not so great looking) plants. I asked if they sold them for a discounted price? The guy came back to tell me no. That's fine but, as I turned the corner to pay for the Marigold and the Mgr was rolling his eyes and talking about me. I don't appreciate it. He should be more careful when he talks with customers. I first asked an employee named Noel to help me find a price on an ornament and then saw the 30% off sign but when it rang up as full price he refused to honor it and was very rude about it. when I asked to speak to a manager he just walked off and began doing other work ignoring me. read more

I really wanted to like this place and keep frequenting, but I will not be returning. I was excited that I found a garden center that has a variety of different plants vs what you will find at Home Depot and Lowe's. I thought it was even better that it is employee owned and operated - because you would think they provide top notch customer service and just care more in general. Customer service is nonexistent here. On my first visit there were multiple employees walking around, all minding their own business, cool. At the register I had the most interaction with an employee. Then my second visit, again no greeting, nothing. My turn to pay, I didn't even get a "I can help you here" with two cashiers standing by. I walked over to an elderly male employee and the elderly female employee just turned around. No "did you find everything okay?" Not even "thanks have a good day." Rude. I wish my experience would have been different, but it wasn't. I'll just stick to Home Depot and Lowe's, at least they have good customer service! read more

Staff are always incredibly helpful and sweet! They always load my soil into my car for me and lay down fresh butcher paper to keep it clean. 5* service! The woman at the register who always seems to be there during weekdays always knows the answers to my questions and is always very sweet and kind! read more

This is a great place to find all your plant needs! I have a bunch of indoor plants that I take care of, so I was in need of soil and new pots. The staff was very helpful in pointing me to their soil selection, and they had tons of pots of all different sizes! The staff was nice enough to hold my bag of soil at the register as I browsed, and even helped me with a cart and paper for my car to keep it clean of soil debris. Soil was reasonably priced I think ($12 for a 20 qt bag). Some pots can get expensive, I found an 11in egg pot for $35, which I thought was reasonably priced because it was heavy, high quality ceramic). Overall, customer service is A+ and the store is nice, neat, and has a ton of options. I will be coming back for all my plant needs! read more

I had a few questions on both indoor and outdoor plants - and was directed to the right person for each. I've been to a few Armstrong locations and this one stood out. Look, Armstrong's prices can be high, and I knew that going in. But their plants are healthy and they have a decent selection. Excellent plant varieties of all types. I've come here for more rare varieties like hot pink flowered strawberries, variegated ivy, and monkey cup pitcher plants. I always get the help I need whenever I ask a staff member about plant care or getting rid of pests. I was also pleased that when I had issues with multiple pests, the staff member did his best to find a single solution that could take care of all the pests instead of just pointing me to different products even though I didn't ask for a multi-tasking product. That was really thoughtful. Another time, I reached the register with a plant and the cashier took a look at the plant I grabbed and went off to grab me a more lush plant of the same variety even though I didn't say anything about the problem being small or sparse. Additonally, on another ocassion, I came for ladybugs and the cashier asked me if I knew how to use them. I said no and she gave me a detailed lesson on ladybug use for pest control (her advice worked!). I love this location and will keep coming! read more

Tried my hand at gardening it was very short lived. Just kidding I have a few house plants that are still alive. I was here to look for fresh herbs to plant out on my patio area. They had a great setup for social distancing and limited the amount of customers inside. They offered shade and free water out front. They had hand sanitizer at the front of the store for when you enter and leave. I was not able to find any herbs that I wanted. Also the selection was very sparse. I think everyone had the same idea as myself. Went over to the seed wall to try my luck there. Nothing there either. Then I saw the beautiful orchids and thought about buying one. But I opted not to. Overall great safety features setup. But they did not have much in stock. Not much selection on herbs or peppers. If you want house plants or flowers they had more of that available. Armed with store credit in hand, I wanted to buy some herbs and a tall indoor plant for the family room. We noted that this location is smaller than the Carmel Valley location, which of course means less options. We picked a few herbs and asked an employee about basic care. He answered our question but didn't offer any more information and actually walked away from us. We picked through some of the planters and the indoor plants to finish up our visit. I found a reasonably priced Dracaena Deremenisis Lisa plant that was tall with healthy, shiny leaves. We also found an affordable and stylish planter that came with an elevated base to house our new Dracaena! Unfortunately, none of the employees that were walking around offered to help us while we were shopping indoors, like Carmel Mountain. If we had to ask a question, we had to flag them down. The cashier at the register was friendly enough and was apologetic that she didn't know how to apply our store credit. A store manager had to assist with this issue. A big pro for this place is that I like that this location is closer to where I live. However, I prefer Carmel Mountain for its selection and customer service. read more

I found my new favorite nursery to get that cute and unexpected houseplant, and some of the more rare varieties that I have not been able to find at major box stores or other nurseries. I came here once before and once after social distancing. They have implemented measures to keep number of people on site low. There is a line and someone to keep count of how many people are in the store. I believe senior hour is 8am-9am and they are open to general public after 9am. Also, many plants are outside, and even the inside area is very well ventilated with all the open doors. All staff wore masks and keep at a safe distance, but still are super helpful. However, I did notice that some of the plants are neglected since the pandemic, and there are many many spiders on the house plants. Before, every single item was just the most lush and beautiful plant I ever saw. Hopefully things get back to normal soon. I do love their selection. They have many different types of planters wrapped around the store. You have tons of options with plastic, wood, ceramic, terracotta, cement, and every in between. There are some cute (but pricier than Home Goods) décor items inside, and the cutest set up to get your very own fairy garden started. I just adore the fern selection. Each time I left with a couple unusual ones that I'd never seen before. I was also very pleasantly surprised that they had lemongrass and this beautiful variegated pineapple mint that I just had to have. Yes, they are a bit pricier compared to your chain home and garden stores, but the quality is much higher, and this is definitely worth a stop to find a rarer plant. If they don't have it in stock, they will order it for you! And you only pay on pick up if you like what you see. I have literally been searching for a year for a yuzu tree, both in stores and online. Armstrong made my dream come true! I special ordered it just before the lock down, but never got a call back, understandably with everything that was going on. I drove by and noticed that they were open, so went in and found the last yuzu tree they had in stock - and it looked to be in great health with little baby fruits! read more

Purchased a pomegranate tree from here, some earth worms (for compost), & lady bugs... The tree is still flourishing beautifully and my compost is going very very well Definitely recommend Armstrong Garden for purchasing your fruit trees. My only issue was the lady bugs I purchased. The majority were dead upon arrival to my house (we went straight home) and now, they're no where to be seen. Doesn't live up to the "enough to colonize a garden" statement on the packaging. I definitely recommend this nursery but get your live bugs else where! read more

First off, I want to give a shout-out to Erin for great customer service and fantastic advice! She was so friendly, helpful, caring, relatable, and bubbly. I asked her for advice on my Maranta Leuconera because it's currently experiencing transplant shock, and I've been a nervous wreck of a plant mom because of it. Her advice was thorough, and she was compassionate. Overall, such a welcoming atmosphere. Overall, the team here is great because everyone I've encountered has been incredibly friendly and energetic. Besides the wonderful customer service, I love their selection of plants and indoor/outdoor gardening supplies. I have to hold back each time I step in because their indoor plants are beautiful! Erin also informed me that they rotate their plant selection, so it'll be fun to check out what they have every-so-often. I know I'm going to be a regular here! read more
