This is not a review about the food, but the customer service is so good it deserves 5 stars. I came in with my friends wanting to play Brass: Birmingham which was not in their game library, so they opened a brand new copy for us to play. I also love that Zulu's has been inviting small, local artists to sell things at the cafe for the month of August. I think that in itself says enough about the values of the business. This is a fun spot to go with a group of people. They have several games you can play for free. They also serve alcohol, boba, food and some desserts. Everything is reasonably priced with everything being under $12. I ordered the chicken tenders & fries and thought it was good. I really enjoyed the cinnamon sugar pretzel bites. I loved the space at Zulu's! There's plenty of room, lots of tables, and everything feels comfortably spaced rather than crowded. My group had a reservation, but when we arrived, we didn't see a table set aside for us. Since there were many open tables at the time, it wasn't an issue. I mentioned it to one of the staff members, and he quickly created a "reserved" sign for our table. That worked out fine, though I did wonder how it might be handled during a busier time. I tried the chili cheese fries, which were classic pub-style food. They tasted good, but nothing particularly special or memorable. They had a great selection of games for our group to play, as well as many available for purchase, which was a nice touch. Wanted to like this place more. Their game selection is pretty good; if not comprehensive, there are usually things there that I don't see at other stores. There tends to be table space when I end up there for board gaming. Parking is also pretty easy in the lot as of the time of this writing. The open floor plan leads the location being oppressively noisy, and (seemingly in contradiction) I usually find the air really stuffy. Busy nights are stressful to hang out for games as a result. Food and drink selection is serviceable to mediocre. So far I haven't been impressed by the taps available (and wish they didn't come in easily-knocked-over plastic cups, given that it's a gaming venue). Food is pretty basic; do not come in hoping for a vegetable. The combined issues put it below most other local board game venues for me, including their Bothell location. read more

Tried this zulus location since I was in the area. Got some cookies and ice cream which were tasty. Lots of playing space with an extra room to the side. Lots of games to try playing while there. This location has a different menu than bothell, smaller and simpler but it does have bubble tea which the other location does not. Would recommend zulus to anyone looking for a fun way to spend time together. read more

I truly loved this place! It was packed when I arrived. Everyone smiled back at me and they were all so nice. I was helped right away and they had what I wanted! Okay but Bothell location is better. The good: -lots of board games to both play in store and separately to purchase. -more seating available than Bothell. -easier parking. -very clean. The drawbacks: -feels more sterile where there's more of a business feel rather than a mythical tavern. -open floor plan. It gets LOUD and overstimulating. -menu and food: smaller menu and the food is more basic bar food. No fun names or interesting recipes. They were also out of items. Beer came in a plastic cup. Bothell has frosty mugs. -small drawback- not many figures for painting. I can see where people may like this place but it's not for us. read more

First time here. Pretty nice if you just wanna hangout with friends & play game board. Zulu sells board games, food, and drinks as well. I came on weekday afternoon, not crowded, so pretty chill. I think it will be noisy later of the day or weekend. You may bring your own game or borrow from the library here. The food were good. Nice staff. Open floor plan. The counter-part to the Zulu's Bothell location, they thrive in a different way. Their space is big and open, the main complaint we have about going to Bothell. We haven't tried events here, but so far the staff has been helpful and the space is roomy. Sadly, they don't offer a careful curation of food, but hopefully as they build we'll be seeing improvements in that department too. read more

Moving up to Lynnwood from the East Side I've been looking for a good gaming place for me to go. I really like Zulus with how large it is and the amount of gaming areas they have. This place is definitely more local and low-key unlike Mox Boarding house where I feel it can be difficult at times to find a seat. I like that there is good and drinks here and there is usually space for every type of gamer..we came here to play DND and the first time was during a tournament for Catan. Even with the tournament there was still space for us. I like that the staff is very kind, there are food and drinks items you can enjoy and they even have some items you can buy like more die sets, books and other games. This has become our spot to go. I would say that the staff could be more knowledgeable about their menu items read more

It is a room with lots of tables and an environment for gamers of all walks of life to gather and play. Do y want to worry about people coming over and staying too late? Go to Zulus. Don't want to worry about wrangling food while you're thinking about the best crit roll you can get your mage against an elder orc? Zulus has some hot snacks to please. This is a really fun venue and game market! The only criticism seem more like a me problem, but here they go. The venue is super noisy on busy game nights and there's not a huge amount of sound baffles about, making it a challenging environment for noise sensitive people. This the place to be. I would shop and game here every weekend if I could afford it. The vibe is fun and decidedly non-toxic, which is a huge accomplishment for any gaming store. It helps that the employees appear to be genuinely nice people, like they're actually happy to be working where they're working (I'm totally jealous). My guess is that it starts with the manager, whose name escapes me, but he's a gentle giant with an infectious enthusiasm for the game nights he runs. I played a Magic draft on April 5, and he ran the event with patience and joy and even participated (non-competitively) himself. He joined in just to have some fun with his customers and keep his finger on the pulse, which is the kind of leadership that's missing in a lot of small businesses. I told him how I loved the place, and he asked me if I had any negative feedback because he wants the place to be as perfect as it can be. Society needs more places like Zulu's. Called on a sunday to see if they had any op 11 booster box and stated that they had one more so i rush in to their store and to be told that they don't sell the booster box but only packs of 6 for the OP event. I get that there is an event but communication needs improvement. Last time I was there and had only one left with an OP event but still sold it. I don't understand what's the difference. read more

I've been to Zulu's a couple times now and appreciate their selection and welcoming staff. My friends and I love this place. If you are a nerd, geek, or anything in between, you will probably find something to adore about Zulu's as well. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. The food is limited, but coffee, chicken, and fries keep me happy during gaming sessions. The decor is astoundingly good. The vibe is incredible. It does get a bit loud sometimes, which even my overstimulated self takes as a good sign; it is often busy, and for good reason! First off, there needs to be better advertisement about events/tournaments. We went for just a casual family day. Planned on having lunch there and potentially buy a game. We went to the counter to order, the girl seemed annoyed and inconvinced when asking her simple questions. We were also told to move to another room to play games (fine get it) for their tournament they had going on. So we grabbed all our stuff, head to the other room, were other gamers tell us they were told to clear out by 1 for another tournament. It was 12:35. I get these kind of events bring in money and customers, but as new customers it was frustrating to be met with annoyance and that we only had 25mins to play any game. We wanted to like this place because it is closer then The Mox, but after that, won't be back. Your job is customer service. If you can't answer simple questions without getting annoyed, it is time to check yourself. Asking how long a wait would be for something isn't a major question to get irritated with. read more
