My partner and I wanted to stop by to pick up a board game and oh my this place is soo vibey. We didn't get any of their food so this review is about the store and service. Experience (4/5) I've been to the Lynnwood location but this one is much much cooler! It has multiple levels and several rooms all decorated to feel like a rustic tavern. The Lynnwood one is more open concept which isn't as cozy but definitely more spacious if that's what you're looking for. They have a wonderful selection of games and cards, a corner dedicated to graded cards, stairs leading to a D&D room, a front counter with a food/beer menu, and my favorite part- the outdoor patio next to the front door. We quickly made our purchase and left but I'm really hoping to come back and play a board game on the patio soon! Service (5/5) The staff here are extremely kind and attentive. Came here with a group of friends for some bites, drinks and of course play some board games! I'm still new to the wide world of board games and if you're like me, when you walk in besides the front order counter, you'll find walls filled with games for purchase and playing daunting. Luckily the folks here are ready to help you make a selection. Similar to Mox, you try out games get suggestions and buy of course if you enjoy them. You can also bring your own games if you wish. There is a fair number of tables to play on both inside and out. I just started with a few beers, but my friends ate, one of whom had a chickpea salad which she gave a thumbs up. I got an order of fries which were standard, but what was cool is they have various sauces to dip them beyond the usual ketchup, including hot sauces. You place an order, and a server will bring it to your table. The games we played while we hung out were "Hues and Clues" and "Exploding Kittens". It was fun time here and this makes for a great group activity, would come back to Zulu. read more

After years of going to Mox while visiting Bellevue, my friends finally decided to drive us up to Zulu's since it's open a little later (Mox closes at 10PM, Zulu's closes at 11PM on some weekdays). What an awesome set-up! From the start, it really feels like you're walking into a medieval tavern. You enter a board game shop set-up with a welcoming bar and the smell of fried food. Tables are open seating and you can order on a QR code for speedy delivery. They have an "open play" board game selection at the back with some classics rated by complexity. We brought our own board game, found a spot within 10 minutes while it was packed, and got drinks pretty quickly. They were even nice enough to give us a complimentary drink for tapping out one of their kegs. The beer selection has reasonable variety and is very reasonably priced at $8-9/drink. I didn't get any food here, but my friends seemed to enjoy the burger and fries they ordered. Lot of fun and definitely a great offering for the community. Would love to come back if I'm in the area. This review update is long overdue. The seating situation and lack of nearby parking is still unfortunate given the popularity, but I understand there really isn't anything that can be done about that. It was also sad when they got rid of so many of their sauces, which was the really fun part our first trip here. Now, the complaints out of the way, Zulu's is a 5-start stop, packaged in a location too small for it, which they are very aware of given they have a separate event space down the street. So, let me rave about each aspect that keeps us coming back; - The food. Always hot and delicious, sometimes it takes longer given the bursts of guests they get with events, but everyone we've brought has left satisfied. (And we've introduced about 7 people through various events!) - The staff! Huge praise to the staff. Experts at navigating the tight halls, amazing at corralling events, super helpful and friendly. We have not had a single bad experience with any member of the staff and we cannot praise them enough for the amount of work it takes running around a store/cafe like this. - The events. I've been pulled to a get MTG events, but my partner has been frequent in prereleases, drafts, and commander nights. They are well-organized and again the staff is always incredibly helpful. - The card corner! Buying and selling is a breeze. This is mostly from my partner, but they try to make Zulu's their first stop for fair prices and quick service. - The shop! They always have new dice, the latest magic packs, and plenty of game options for the whole family. It's such a cute space, we only wish they could expand! read more

Zulu's is my favorite board game cafe in the greater Seattle area. The shop is cozy, with plenty of tables and seating and a wide variety of board games to choose from. Their food options are also actually delicious! Tater tots are very crispy and hold up well even after a few hours of gaming. Sauces are fantastic, I loved the spicy mana sauce. The vegetarian impossible meatball sandwich was fantastic and I will probably be getting it again. Would love if they opened more locations south ;) read more

Love this place! Tried this place for the first time on a Friday night for a friend's birthday and we had a blast. Love the ambiance, it is a bunch of fellow nerds playing to their hearts content. Although when we arrived at around 7 pm on a Friday night, it was PACKED. It is def recommended to reserve a table ahead of time if you want to game with friends. You can reserve a time frame as well. The food was so good. Although, was disappointed in the poutine as it was super salty and the cheese wasnt really melted and was in chunks. Everyone else has noted though that they loved the chicken strips and fries. Especially the chicken tendies, it was so so crispy. Not overly breaded whatsoever. Everyone loved the side dip that came with the fries. Very unique was the consensus. Note: parking is difficult on a Saturday or Friday night. They have limited parking spots around the building, but it is mostly side parking. My friend did note there is a parking garage somewhere nearby that is free, but there are lots where you do have to pay. There is a store inside here as well. They have such a huge selection of board games, my friends and I spent about 30 minutes just browsing and thinking on what game to bring home. Overall, will definitely come back! I've visited twice - once on a Wednesday around 6pm and Monday around 7pm. Both times we easily found a place to sit. There are lots of options. The food comes out at a reasonable pace. The food is a bit inconsistent. Fries were hot and crispy on the Wednesday and luke warm on the Monday. The poutine gravy is tasty. The bread pudding bites are very good, but a lot for 2 people. I wasn't a fan of the chicken sandwich or the burger. It's a fun place to try out games and have an app or dessert, but I don't think I'll get a meal here again. read more

These owners know how to treat their employees, you can tell-these kids love their job. My boyfriend said this was the highlight of our first day in Seattle and we even came back again later. It's a very warm and cute gaming shop. We ordered the hot chocolate and the bread pudding. Both were sweet but delicious. My boyfriend is into MTG and got a few with his brother and his friend to play the second day we came back. They have a calendar full of events and plenty of board games to purchase. Their collection of items is a bit smaller compared to Mox. The rooms are themed and if this was in our local area, we would definitely come back more often. The staff is very friendly and felt like they actually enjoyed working there. This was an interesting new concept for us! We were looking for something to do with friends when we stumbled upon this place. The door to the place was really small, single brown door. We weren't sure that we were in the right place until we went in. Once inside, it's like you're transformed to a magical world. The staff were extra friendly and explained how things worked. We came around 1 pm on a Friday and found tables right away. There were a lot of demo board games to play for free. We spent our mother daughter day here with our teenagers and had a lot of laughs playing 3-4 games. You can order drinks at the counter and bring them to your table. Food wasn't served until after 4 pm. It was fairly quiet and we were able to talk and catch up. We truly enjoyed this concept and surely made some wonderful memories. What a neat find for a foodie nerd! One of my co-workers suggested it for an office party and we had a blast. They accommodated our large party in one of the back rooms and we played board games and nommed for a whole afternoon! They have MTG, HP, DnD and LOTR decorations and themed items all about the rooms. The building itself has a little bit of a stone castle look to it making it even more perfect and ultra nerdy. Lots of board games to choose from and cards and dice and things to buy. The menu was definitely more than I expected for a board game place. The sauce shield is quite formidable and I wish I had been able to try them with the fries but they aren't gluten free and I have an allergy. They were able to modify a couple things on the menu and I enjoyed the burger I had. The root beer on tap was ultra delicious! I'd like to consider this place my Cheers. The hang out spot where people know my name and I know theirs. I've been a regular for years now and there's so many good things to say about this place. The employees are good people that do their best to help you with any of your needs when it comes to game recommendations, food orders, or product purchases. If you have any questions about a game, they can definitely help you answer it or find someone that can for you. They are quite friendly and appreciate those that are veterans or new to gaming. Zulu's offers a wide range of games to demo and games to purchase. They greatly support the competitive card game scenes for Magic, Pokémon, Digimon, Dragon Ball Super, and thankfully Final Fantasy. The store has a lot of space to sit that surprisingly still fills up so much that they extended the store to a second location a block down the street for private events, reserved seating, or competitive events. I personally come here to play Final Fantasy TCG most of the time and dabble into the Digimon Card Game time to time. They do their best to support the communities as much as possible. Do join in if you are interested. The store sometimes lack in a variety of card game accessories, but they do their best to stock up and bring in the popular and new tabletop games. They also support RPGs and miniature war games by having large tables down stairs and miniatures and paints for sale. There's couple of shelves where you can just borrow and sit and play with friend if you'd like. And if you like them enough, you may see if the store has any in stock for purchase. I highly recommend trying out Settlers of Catan, Splendor, and WingSpan. They are very fun competitive and easy to learn tabletop games to play with your friends or family. Zulu's also offers a great food menu and a rotational beer selection. Menu items are given unique names to add some fun to the order, but can be a bit annoying since I would have to read the description to know what exactly I'm ordering. I usually get a Maulburger which is simply a smash burger that usually comes with a side of fries, tater tots, or sweet potato fries. These are very solid and I definitely recommend trying it once. There's also a large range of dipping sauces to choose from for your Hydra Strips or Pile of Po-Tay-Toes which can feel overwhelming with the selection. I've tried a couple of the spicier sauces and the WorldFire sauce was like cough fire. It had heat that was more too my liking and that says a lot consider my spice tolerance is pretty high. Feel free to venture off and try that one, but do it at your own risk. Drogon's Breath was much tamer, but still had a nice kick to it. And the Zulu's sauce is a solid choice if you're looking for something similar to a Big Mac sauce and definitely not intended to burn you. If you're into playing games or trying to get together with friends or family, then this is a very chill spot to play at, grab a snack, or just hang and drink with some buds. read more

Really enjoyed my time at Zulu's! I've been twice so far and had a ton of fun both times. The first time I went with a group of 4 on a Thursday evening. It was hard to find a table but once I found one, we were set. Had a lot of fun playing ticket to ride and the selection of trial games were plentiful. Got the poutine which was really good and the Mac and cheese which was more similar to velveta than I prefer (not bad, just a preference). The second time I went was a Saturday afternoon with my husband. We had some drinks and enjoyed several two person games. The selection for two player games was definitely different from mox and I enjoyed them more. Overall, food is decent even if a bit expensive. I like that the staff is helpful but you don't have to ask them for everything like at mox. Game selection is good and it's a great time to play some board games. read more

Despite my previous less than stellar experience, I tried again after a year to pop in and see if it'd improved. My mistake. I wasn't surprised to get no greeting or acknowledgement of existence as I looked through the board games for a half hour or so. That's the general vibe of most board game stores (unless you're a regular). This time, I had to listen to an employee near the main door loudly talking about his schooling, and how he had homework issues, how he told the teacher to "go f*** off!" about his homework because he was gonna pass (or not) anyway. I gave it a shot. When it opened, the store owner and staff were top notch, better than any local or remote competitor. Now it's a shadow (and a hateful one at that) of its former self. read more

Zulu is charging twice MSRP for many new Pokemon Cards products. I want to like this business, but that makes them no different than the scalpers that have ruined the Pokemon card hobby for many children and working class families by doubling or tripling prices. It reminds me of when car dealers were jacking up prices of vehicles $6-8K over MSRP a few years ago, capitalizing on so-called supply shortages so they can make a buck. It's sad when a LCS puts profit before their customers. And it's just plain bad business. I won't shop here any more. read more

Found out about Zulu's from a friend's dental hygienist, so we got a small group together to check it out and play some games over snacks and beers. Plenty of large tables inside, a few shelves worth of games to borrow, and if you find something you like they might have it for sale up front. You're also welcome to bring your own favorite to play. If there's any question that this is a board game cafe, the menu really clears that up! A lot of the references were beyond my scope. So thematically nerdy. I love it. We ordered the Pile of Po-Tay-Toes with ketchup and tartar sauce. The fries were delicious and the tartar was on point. Also had the Bombardo Tot-chos (with nacho cheese sauce, pickled jalapeno, avocado salsa, diced tomato, and an abundance of green onion). Not as big a fan of this one, but we did eat it all. They have a number of vegetarian options including Impossible products. The menu also boasts an insane assortment of sauces. You can order them individually or as flights or shields. I love this place! The food is excellent: crispy fries, a smorgasbord of sauces, and flavorful entrees. They have a great selection of board games, cards, miniatures, and dice.
