In an hour-long workout you rotate between rowing machines, treadmills and free weights/TRX for the perfect mix of cardio and strength training. Plus, the instructors at the Meadowmont location are fantastic. They keep you on track and motivated, and provide great instruction so you perform the exercises with the proper form. And, by using the heart rate monitor to track my effort level throughout the workouts, I've seen significant improvement in my performance over the past three months.

Love OTF.... but current Meadowmont OTF studio customer service sucks…read more After 18 months loving my OT Beat Link (Apple Watch heart rate monitor), I recently lost it. It was a great option for me so I bought a replacement OT Beat Link ($140) on Monday at Meadowmont which is currently my home studio. I finally *found* my lost OT Beat Link on Tuesday night (of course ;-), and then proceeded to return the never-used-still-in-the-box-with-all-the-parts new OT Beat Link on Wednesday morning at Meadowmont. I was informed there is a strict no return policy for all heart rate monitors... doesn't matter if the device is still in the box and has never been used. I hate to give the Meadowmont OTF studio a negative review. I have been an OTF member based at Meadowmont studio for over 8 years, and overall OTF is awesome. I wish current Meadowmont OTF management had better customer service, IMO they used to do much better. Luckily there are several OTF studio options in the area and I would highly recommend trying those over Meadowmont.... I have found the MLK OTF studio in Durham to be a superior option and there are a couple other studios in the Chapel Hill/Durham area.

I absolutely can't stand having children on these machines messing around when I just wanna get my workout done. And then after finishing my workout and finally being able to relax in the massage chairs, I realize I have to wait 10 full minutes because they only have two massage chairs and two Hydro massage chairs for the literal hundreds of people that come to this location. There's really no excuse. Please get more massage chairs, and Hydro massages for the people that are paying 20+ dollars a month. Every other location I've been to has at least four regular massage chairs. I don't understand why this location only has two especially for the level of foot traffic they get. Side note: Shout out to Greg though bc he's always attentive and helpful. Never see him on his phone and always on top of stuff

I really like how the class is structured with 20 minutes of spin, 20 minutes of strength training, and 20 minutes of yoga. The spin portion is motivating with good music and your name shows up on a screen with your optimal power zone so you can continuously push yourself. No one knows who is who unless you know someone's name ;) And everyone's is different to cater towards your level! Since it's only 20 minutes not many people wear clip in shoes - but you can! The strength training portion is always different. Sometimes it's weights, straps, or even slam balls. I really like that the exercises are also shown on screens throughout the strength training area - so you won't forget what you need to do right after the instructor goes through everything. It also gives the countdowns so you know how much time is left for each exercise. The yoga is the part that's a little hit or miss for me. Sometimes it is sooo incredibly fast and I don't feel like I can keep up. And then sometimes it's just right.

It was multi-age and multi-skill level which was what we thought we wanted. To start with, there were too many children in the class and there was little to no spotting when students were high on the silks. Sometimes the instructor asked other children to spot each other while she was in the connected room and out of sight of the students. This was not something that thrilled me and parents are not allowed to spot for "insurance purposes." How kids spotting kids fits that bill is beyond me. There also not enough pads to go around under each set of silks (one of which was alarmingly close to a running ceiling fan) and some of the kids had various pillows and yoga mats under their silks. Aerial silks are fairly high; you want a thick, high quality pad under each set of silks. Because there were so many kids, there was also almost zero instruction and an often loud and rowdy class. My daughter has been doing aerial for two years but she did not learn a single new skill. The kids were just set free to do whatever moves they wanted to work on. A few times older girls tried to teach her some moves. My kid LOVES aerial but she grew to really dread this class. We ended up skipping the last two. I recommend the Levin JCC or Legacy studios for aerial classes if you are in durham or chapel hill.

And the workout equipment is up to date too. There are classes from yoga to circuit training to personal trainers. There's a massage therapist on site. There's cardio. There's free weights. Her energy, excitement, music list and full sixty minute workout will leave you feeling addicted. The great thing about the PopUp Workout is you can literally do it anywhere! The classes I've had with Katie have been full body: arms, legs, butt and abs. These classes do cater to a slightly older crowd (late thirties to early fifties range, women only), although I'm in my mid-twenties and I love these workouts!
