Get through the unnecessarily long intake process and you'll be immediately received with lecturing house employees whose bullshit they tell you is only matched by their attitudes towards recovery, which are simultaneously apathetic and condescending. If by some chance you unfortunately get admitted the only advice that can be imparted is to avoid the red headed house manager as much as humanly possible. There are always sad little men who are dissapointed with how their lives turn out and use whatever little power they have to try and make everyone around them as miserable and self loathing as they are. The only solace is to understand that its them who have to go home to their boring, monotonous and joyless lives every night. Check your logic at the door at Providence Place, because any rational thought process has no place at a house full of vague philosophical advice that listening to would lead you to a road of relapse. Don't let their altruistic mission statement fool you because they will place a dollar over the lives of a struggling addict or alcoholic without hesitation. Instead of sending your loved one there you should just write out a check to providence place and then drop them off on the streets of Portland, because that will likely be whats going to happen if you have any slight disagreement with the management. And at least you'll spare the experience of being put down and will have a little more time to find a functioning place to recover.

But it got down to where I had to make a choice, live or die. Many of the staff were previously addicts themselves. I am 55 and I was a private pay as I didn't have insurance. When I left I was determined to stay on track and I hope and pray that I can. I currently have not had a drink in eight days. I've only been home for one day though. I think I was most afraid of having withdrawal symptoms, but the staff knew what they were doing and other than being tired, I didn't have many. It was really helpful to be around other alcoholics. They knew exactly how I was feeling. They were very careful about Covid and did an instant test and one that they sent out before they would put you in a shared room. I chose not to go onto a group setting where as many others were because they had health insurance. I've struggled with alcohol for quite a while but for some reason this time, I know I can do it. My initial visit included a very thorough stack of paperwork that covered my current injury, past injuries, and personal info for records. After that I was fairly quickly whisked into the back where they said they would be X raying my neck...what? Not sure if there was a mix up on my behalf or theirs but I assured the tech that we did not need to do this. He didn't argue and pleasantly brought me to my room for intake and to wait for my doctor. Dr. Abbott came in and chatted with me about my symptoms. He was very detailed and never seemed rushed to get to his next appointment. In the next couple of visits he has done the same and has given me several techniques to help alleviate pain along with his work that he has done on my neck and surrounding muscles. Sometimes runs late (don't all doctors) but overall an amazing experience and will continue to go to have work done on my neck.
