At first i gave them five stars cause they got everything in the truck,,then they bring your stuff to their storage in New Jersey.I think thats where the trouble is .When they finally delivered my stuff many things were broken and stuff was missing.I would never call them again.The guy told me i have the whole truck to load anything nand when it comes the guy says Oh you only have so many cubic feet,so all said and done it was an extra 2,000.00 dollars .So more money and lost and broken stuff......I WOULD AVOID THIS BUSINESS. read more

Hired them in November for a local move. Kids were on time, worked hard, and were respectful, but a few of my furniture items were ruined. Two tall dressers, an end table, and my bbq are all lopsided and don't stand solid anymore, they wobble. I don't know if it was the placement in the truck, but I wouldn't hire them again. It is now 4 months after my move. I am still finding damage to my furniture. All the bottoms are destroyed from being dragged. Maybe if the owners provided proper equipment to help these young guys move, this wouldn't have happened. Funny thing, I just noticed my headboard and bottom board are on backwards (metal 4 post) you can't make this up!! I was very sad because I worked so hard to purchase well made furniture that would last. Now, in just a few hours, destroyed. Now I am very angry. My mom used these guys for years and recommended them for my move. They were so nice and helpful. I was really in a bind and needed to move stuff and they were able to come in like 2 days. The management people of my apartment complex said they were excellent as well. The price was great too! Less than $500 total (boxes, no furniture). It was really fast too. I got four big guys that were in and out in like 20 mins. I had one of those old houses with narrow steps and a narrow, nasty turn and I just couldn't make it down with heavy boxes anymore. But shout out to Dom, Jorge, Franco, and Mark, they saved my life (and my back lol). If this is your first time moving, give these guys a try. Sorry but no. First of all I didn't read all the hidden filtered reviews so please do that first before hiring. I hate giving 1 star reviews but this place deserves it. I guess it's called half priced movers and indeed you get what you pay for. This service is good for a single bachelor who has little stuff. When I ordered the service the lady told me 9am three guys will come and wrap all my furniture and move it. So at 1130 (late) 2 kids showed up. I asked if they can wrap my stuff they said "uh we don't have that stuff". They were running up and down my stairs like they were in a race. They damaged and ripped My $2000.00 dollar leather sofa. I've never saw someone moving so quickly like they just wanted the day to be over. Scratched my stuff, scuffed my floors and walls. Bad bad bad bad bad service. The management seems to hire warm inexperienced bodies. Oh and when it's time to sign the contract please read what you sign. When they say "sign here. Here. Here. Initial here, here" you're basically waving any liability and giving your self no chance to recoup any damages. Avoid like the plague and hire two laborers off the street and rent a uhaul van you'll get better service. Oh god avoid. Luckily they didn't steal from me like all the filtered reviews claimed. These movers work so hard for you and protecting your stuff! I was moving from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom 3 floor town house and had 4 young men doing the job. They were friendly, polite, courteous, I mean really I can go on and on about how great they were. My mistake was not telling them a few small pieces of things I needed to have moved which I thought my husband was going to do since we have a pick up truck. Well the head mover called his boss and was told to move everything else for us for an extra $100 and they were some tedious pieces. He was so kind about my mistake he wrapped everything up time efficiently and placed it in the truck. They were quick and had everything done in under 3 hours between breaking stuff down apart carefully giving me any loose wires to things and unpacking it and re building at the new place. If I could give more than 5 stars I most certainly would. read more

I called 1/2 Price Movers to get a quote for moving a piano, and I was assured that they "specialize in moving pianos." This was most definitely not the case. They were great on the phone, and very quick to take my non-refundable deposit (half the price of the move). After that started the issues. Clearly there is a serious lack of communication between the people scheduling the move, the dispatcher, and the actual movers. I was guaranteed a certain date and time, but when the mover called me, he said there is no way he can do it because he was already on a different move half way across the state. When we finally scheduled a time that worked, they sent only TWO GUYS to move a piano! They were unfriendly and unprofessional, and were very rough with the piano. To be fair, there was no way they could possibly be kind to the piano when they only had two people to do a job that should have had four movers. They were also clearly not made aware of what floor I was on or how many steps there were, even though this information was taken in the beginning and worked into the price. They expressed annoyance that there were stairs and that I was on the second floor even though that was what was literally written in the contract, and we have an elevator. In the end, I felt I had to tip them more, because they had done the job of 3-4 movers, and the company was too cheap to send enough manpower to safely move my piano. One of the movers even got hurt on the stairs where his leg got trapped under the piano. When it came time to settle the bill, they added 5% to the bill for payment with a credit card. This was NOT communicated in the many conversations I had with the sales and scheduling people. Every other company I called had either the same price for cash or card, or they told me on the phone in advance. Overall it was a very disappointing and frustrating experience. I would not recommend this company for your move if you want a safe, professional move. If I had wanted to move the piano myself with a few friends and a U-haul or pickup truck, I would have done it myself. Instead I shelled out over $500 to have this unprofessional moving company rough up my piano at least as much as me and a few friends would have. I seriously doubt all of their 5-star reviews are real. Avoid this sleazy, unprofessional moving company at all costs if you value your property. read more

Professional, extremely courteous and highly efficient. I initially called Half Price Movers and a couple of their competitors to move two rooms of furniture. Christine promptly responded with a fixed rate quote, available dates and expectations perfectly set for a well-defined move. I couldn't say the same for their *competitors* on the island who provided vague answers, open-ended pricing and an inconvenienced tone on the phone. She was very communicative and worked with me on dates as my schedule changed and went so far as including additional boxes which I didn't think I needed but at the end thankful that she did. On the day of the move their team called to align on arrival times, showed up promptly and went right to work. I can't say enough about Ryan, Eric, Al, and Mike. On a hot, humid day they went above and beyond to move exceptionally heavy furniture from the second and third stories. It was the white glove type service that I'd normally expect from high-end furniture delivery companies, carefully navigating small hallways, multiple staircases and sometimes creatively finding the best path to the truck. They were slow and diligent making sure every item was placed exactly as intended in the new location. Having lived in New York all my life and being somewhat jaded, I was waiting for the catch whether it be for a change on the price for heavy items, slower move, etc. - it never came! The team didn't complain or wince when they saw the work involved. Had I known then what I know now, I wouldn't have hesitated. We moved from Staten Island to NJ. During my initial call they spent 30 minutes on the phone with me to discuss everything that needed to be moved, going room by room. They did the quote right over the phone, no visit. They then emailed an official quote with a detailed list of everything included. I had a lot of stuff to move - lots of heavy, bulky furniture and about 250-300 boxes (not all actual cardboard boxes - they count anything one person can carry as a box). As far as pricing, I had received quotes from 2 other moving companies and 1/2 Price movers was significantly less than the others - about 1/2 the price like their name states. And they charged me fairly for the additional items not originally listed on the quote and also deducted for items that they were no longer moving. I felt that their pricing was very fair and honest. The day of the move they called at 7am to inform us they were packing the truck and to ask how many wardrobe boxes we needed. They sell and provide wardrobe boxes the day of the move but do not sell other moving supplies or boxes. They then arrived at our house about 9am. They showed up with 2 trucks and a crew of 6. First, they asked me to walk them through the house, backyard, and shed to show them what was staying and going. I had a couple of changes since they gave me the quote. Danny, the foreman, called the office to let them know of the changes while his crew got to work and they adjusted the price. They crew was very efficient and worked extremely well together. They had one person in the truck organizing and stacking boxes and items while the rest of the team created an assembly line passing items out of the house. They took everything out of the attic themselves, which was really great. I didn't have to take all of that stuff down beforehand myself. I had so much stuff that they filled up both trucks floor to ceiling and didn't fit everything. So we drove to my new home about 45 minutes away and they unpacked the trucks. And then we drove back to the old house. They dropped one truck off at their shop and the entire crew came back in one truck. They finished packing the last of my things and we made a 2nd trip to my new home. They only took a few short 10 minute breaks throughout the day and a 20 minute lunch break mid-afternoon while loading for our 2nd trip. They didn't finish unpacking and reassembling my furniture until about 10pm. They worked really hard and a lot of hours, but didn't stop until the job was complete. I am extremely satisfied with the their high level of service at a great price. I highly recommend them. read more

I could give them zero stars I would. Just moved on Monday and 90% of my items were damaged. Furniture scratched and knicked. They broke the banister in stairway completely in half!!! Fridge destroyed and took off wallpaper and scraped along walls going down. It was actually so bad that I told them to stop and leave it at our old place bc I couldn't watch the damage being done anymore. They not only destroyed the old place we lived in which is my mother in laws house but also all of our items. Even putting my kitchen table back together in our new house was left with missing screws and half put in. I have 3 year old twins that this was a major hazard to. They only compensated with 60 cents per pound and basically told me to scratch after that. Not one person cares about you, your house or belongings. It says in there contract that they aren't liable for scratching your floors and that makes them have the mindset not to give a flying $#%& about digging gashes in your mother in laws solid oak floors. Moving in general is stressful so finding a moving company that is reliable is very important. My husband's co-worker used Half Price Movers before so we decided to use them as well. On the day of the move, 5 guys came (Ryan, Tyrell, Lamar, Eli, and Derrick) on time and moved all of our stuff out within 45 mins to an hour. That also included uninstalling our dining table and bed frames and headboard. They were all really professional and patient considering how much stuff we got ( i swear i'm not a hoarder). Also, given the rainy and cold weather conditions, it wasn't an ideal day to move either. Overall, I was very pleased with these guys who helped us moved to our new home! I would totally recommend them again! Tip: 1) You pay a deposit first and then rest in cash on the day of move. 2) They do have Certificate of Insurance if your building needs it. read more
