Moving in general is stressful so finding a moving company that is reliable is very important. My husband's co-worker used Half Price Movers before so we decided to use them as well. On the day of the move, 5 guys came (Ryan, Tyrell, Lamar, Eli, and Derrick) on time and moved all of our stuff out within 45 mins to an hour. That also included uninstalling our dining table and bed frames and headboard. They were all really professional and patient considering how much stuff we got ( i swear i'm not a hoarder). Also, given the rainy and cold weather conditions, it wasn't an ideal day to move either. Overall, I was very pleased with these guys who helped us moved to our new home! I would totally recommend them again! Tip: 1) You pay a deposit first and then rest in cash on the day of move. 2) They do have Certificate of Insurance if your building needs it. read more

I moved on July 12, 2014 and thanks to 1/2 Price Movers, it all went down without a hitch. I called and reserved them a month prior to my move. I was quoted a FLAT RATE price, which is unheard of these days. The day of the move, 3 guys showed up on time and ready to work. We only moved one floor up in the same building. I would 100% recommend 1/2 Price Movers. We were a little skeptical at first only because I was unfamiliar with the company, but we were so pleased after using them in the Spring to move some things into storage. We didn't give it a second thought when it came time to use them again in August to move our things out of storage. Dylan, Alex, Jeff, and Aushtri were wonderful for that move. This was truly the most stress free move I have ever had. The movers Danny M, Vinny, Joe and Steven came on time, they were friendly and professional and the communication was clear from the start. We had a pretty big move last weekend. We were moving to a 3rd floor condo walk up. The price was good so we were a little nervous that the service might not be great. Well we were wrong. We had 5 guys move our stuff and they were quick, efficient and friendly. We were so so pleasantly surprised!!! I even found stuff behind my so s door that I forgot to pack. They actually helped me do it. I can not believe all the work they did in such a short amount of time. With a smile on their face the whole time. They were going out of their way to make sure each box went in the right room, so we wouldn't have to move it later. They put all furniture back together how it was before. We moved to Marlboro, NJ from Staten Island last week. I can't express how happy we were to use 1/2 Price Movers. I got so much more than what I expected. I thought (wrongly so) that since their price was lower than all the other company's that the service would be subpar. Let me tell you it was anything but. They took apart the beds, the tables, etc. taped up and protected glass shelving and doors. I knew going in that I had underestimated the amount of boxes and that was on me. I was told upfront that there would be an additional charge for extra boxes. Communicaton with the staff was superb, my ciosing date got moved and there wasn't a problem at all. Horrible experience, we used them because they came highly recommended. My furniture ended up breaking and I got accused of repairing it before hand which wasn't true. The boxes were also marked and the guys were told what room they needed to be brought to and they were just left in one room for me and my husband to move. I'm currently pregnant and not able to lift heavy boxes so this was even more unacceptable. The whole point of movers is to make the move easy and convenient and this was the furthest thing from it. 3 days later and I'm still trying to find boxes that were left in the wrong area. read more

They lack transparency, professionalism, and are extremely overpriced. They take advantage of a situation where you plan a moving day, you pack all of your belongings, and they know they can squeeze extra fees out of you and you are in a position where the only thing you can do is pay them and then feel cheated and bad about it. Their prices and service has seriously declined (I have used them in the past). They warn you that anything above what you are quoted is an extra $2 but they absolutely make up arbitrary extra fees even on top of that. And they don't consult you before "calling their boss" to tell you what they counted as extra. The movers did not clarify up front with us what they were counting and when we asked after we were shocked to hear of this new outrageous fee they showed us they counted things that were truly crazy (like the broom and the dust pan were counted as "2 boxes"... on top of that being crazy, it was out because we were obligated to sweep the apartment after the movers left as we agreed with our landlords... so they were not even moving these items). Tell us before you call your boss that you counted 80 extra things. We could have counted with you. He counted items as extra when I then corrected him that they were already in our price quote. It just did not make sense. We could have rearranged some things and packed some things in our own cars while they moved the other pieces and our 15 boxes. So as I stated above my main complaint is this company is extremely nontransparent. They tack on extra last minute fees when you're in a situation where you literally need them to do what they were meant to do that day. They do not take credit card for more than the deposit. Clearly someone there is profiting major off this cash business where they corner you into something and that raise their price when you are vulnerable. I highly doubt their movers are seeing that extra cash the company is charging in bonuses or overtime. If it's not to pay their movers extra, I don't know what the extra fees are for. I just would not use them unless you are the type of person that doesn't care about being taken advantage of or throwing money out the window to a company that is clearly shady. read more

I wish I could say the same as everyone else. The guys were pleasant, however careful they were not. They left me with a wobbly dining room table and then blamed us saying we only had 5 screws in the table initially not even a sorry or attempt to fix. Towards the end they were obviously tired and just dropped boxes wherever they felt like. All of our boxes were labeled and still they just dropped anywhere. We were quoted one price and ended up paying 2000 to move 5 minutes away. I most likely will not be recommending to anyone I know. Sorry read more

Hiring 1/2 Price Movers was the best decision I've made in a while. Any concerns I had were assuaged, and they gave a very reasonable price. Dylan, Stephen, Steve D, and John W were fun, cheerful, strapping dudes with fantastic attitudes. Did I feel emasculated by them? A little bit. But that's only because they were so good at what they did, and both the move out and the move in were completed in a dazzling amount of time. We went from a private house in Staten Island hidden by lots of steps and walkways to a walk-up apartment building in a very busy section of Brooklyn, and they accomplished the task with aplomb. I would absolutely recommend them to all my friends. There was a slight miscommunication in the number of steps at the house we were moving out of, but we were able to speak about it on the phone on the day of the move and resolve the situation (Big ups to Ed in the office). We used them for a move to storage and left me with a house full of stuff bc they couldn't fit it in their truck. Then when we moved from storage to our new house they couldn't fit everything in their truck and tried to get more money to do a second trip. Also had an inflated amount on their bill than what I had in my emailed estimate, which I fortunately was able to show them. I get the impression that the owner doesnt make it easy for their staff to work with customers. Also They didn't explain to me that I had to detail the material of every item and they refused to take a piece from one of my items because I didnt tell them it had glass. Thats what I call b.s. ....however they got the job done with no damage to my house or furniture. Not sure why this is going in filtered reviews as its legit! read more

This place has got to be the worst moving company. I'm not one to write reviews, but I feel like I need to warn people how bad this place is. First of all, I had these expensive couches handed down to me by my mother in law. First off, the guys never showed up with any wrap or sofa blankets. Luckily, I had some lying around. I told them that they should wrap it up, and they still did a horrible job with the wrap because They moved my couch up the staircase and ripped the leather on the side of the brick facade. Now I will have to get a reupholsterer to fix it. Then they didn't even reassemble the kitchen table. Then my bookcase shelf had the metal screw piece missing so I can't even put one of my shelf on there. One of my dressers has a huge scratches on the side. Save yourself the trouble and call a more professional service. read more

My husband and I recently moved from a 4th floor walk up in Queens to a home in Connecticut. Since our apartment is such a steep pain, we knew we would have to shop around for a good movers quote. In the past, we didn't have a great experience with hourly movers, who would naturally try to log as many hours as they could on the job. Not the case with these guys - they were fast, efficient, polite, and most importantly...,respectful of our things. Very cost effective move too. What a rip. The office girl gave us a quote and it wound up being $100 over the quote,with a bunch of our stuff left behind. The crew blamed her and didn't want to hear it, and she wasn't in the office. They complained about how much stuff we had. Hello! Moving four people, what do you expect? They also couldn't get my couch or bed frame in and wanted to charge yet another additional none quoted charge. My landlord said no, and he helped my husband, (disabled vet), and my brother-in-law, (sprained ankle), get the items in, when four healthy movers couldn't do it. Shady way to work. Half Price Movers was perfect. -To be able to say that in 2010 is no small thing, and I'm not the effusive type. PODS screwed me. Let's be honest. -Certainly, in the cool light of day, I would have to note that they moved an established twelve-year, three bedroom, household, about a hundred miles and stored the contents for seven months during a total renovation with a grand total of four broken glass items (that I packed.) But, last week when I asked them to deliver to our new place they refused. -Not "declined" but refused. They won't deliver "on street" in NYC. That would have been nice to know eight months ago when we contracted them. Enter Half Price Movers. I needed a company to unload the POD at their NJ facility and move it into our new place in NY. I told HPM that I'd meet them at PODS at around nine A.M. I got there at 0917 and they already had our entire 16'X8' POD emptied. Emptied. Like army ants! They then delivered to, and carried up, all our stuff. -In a place that is notoriously anal about the smallest scratch on the walls or elevator. -For a price that was the very definition of reasonable. There aren't the words to give the review that I would like to to Half Price Movers. They were there when they said they would be; and at the early end of the scheduled window. They moved everything I had, thousands of pounds, smoothly, cleanly and without a hitch. -And their prices are the best available. After this move we said that we'd never move again. -But if we do we'll use Staten Island's own, Half Price Movers! Thanks fellas!!! read more

The team is so careful with making sure that nothing gets scratched throughout the whole process. The whole process went so smoothly and with not issues.
