I had reached out and made an appointment for them to come give an estimate to remove some tree branches and pavers. I reached out on Friday but scheduled it for Saturday. Since I wasn't sure if pricing, and after reading a few posts- I also followed up with some companies on Thumbtack. I had two companies say they could do the yard waste removal for $200 and $220 respectfully. I reached out to Andrew, with 1-800-Got- Junk, who had texted earlier on Friday to see if they could come that evening. I asked if they would be able to give a price with pictures as I had other individuals who had. I sent the photos and he gave the price of $249. I thanked him for his time but asked that we cancel my appointment. That I will be going in a different direction. He asked if there was a number he could match and I shared $200. He agreed and shared he let the crew know it was a flat $200. Upon arrival today I showed the guys the pile. I mentioned on the phone to Brandon, when he called to share he was on his way and asked where the items were, that a few pavers were out front but otherwise everything was in the back. When they arrived I showed him and his partner the spot. I shared I didn't want all the pavers in the photos I sent removed, just the scallop ones and that there's a few out front. Which would be a total of less pavers than the original picture had. I asked if I paid now or later, as he confirmed they were told the flat rate of $200. He said after when they were done. Brandon and his partner got to work. After 5-10 minutes, my doorbell rang. I was shocked it was that fast. They were almost done but Brandon shared his manager Miguel was on the phone and wished to speak to me. He said that because the pavers out front weren't in the photo it would be a different charge. Okay- I mean there were a ton of pavers in the photos sent and I didn't want them to take the majority of those but I understood. He went on to say that even though it is a very small amount of pavers, it would be an additional $100. Yes, you read that right - 50% MORE than promised for the pavers out front. I said that was crazy. He said he knows it seems like a lot but that Andrew already gave me a huge discount, so it'll need to be that price. No mention of just not taking the pavers and honoring the price agreed upon. I shared I had another company willing to do this job for $200. He then started accusing me of adding items. I was transparent and wasn't trying to trick anyone. He then started grilling me on the phone and I said it doesn't matter as he shared they wouldn't be doing the job for less than $300. I said no thank you and that the guys would need to put the items back. He laughed at me. I immediately stop them as they were about to haul another pile. I didn't realize it was almost the last pile. When I shared what occurred, they both seemed shocked of the additional $100 request, or rather demand. They did put all the items back but they threw it all over my backyard. I understand their frustration but what kind of bait and switch was that?!? I reached out to the number Andrew texted yesterday. Not sure if it goes to his work line or the company. I'm not asking for a discount nor for them to come back. I reached out to the other company and they will be coming to take care of this for the agreed upon $200. I'm not big of negative reviews. As you'll see from my profile and only write them if a line was crossed. The way I was spoken to on the phone and the way they left my yard was that line. Photos show what I sent. I told the guys when they got here they didn't have to take all of the pavers in the backyard but just the scallop ones. That there's a few scallop I moved to the driveway instead that would go. I highlighted the red section of the ones that wouldn't need to go. Again the agreed upon price included ALL of these pavers going. So swapping one those for others...don't get. So im assuming they charge you for hauling and resell the stuff they can on Facebook marketplace or Craig's list seriously double scamming! I actually thought it was one charge for all you can fill ? This is a review for the general company. I do see now why they have 24/7 customer service readily available it's because they have ridiculous pricing. The only time I see this service being of use is if you literally have random junk and shit. Like at mass Here's a price break down since they leave it out: Start off at $149 that's just for them showing up and taking one night stand. From there they described that each truck can hold 8 refrigerator, so if you get to two refrigerators worth of shit it's $250, it goes up by $75 - $100 after that. I was in a personal rut, in a shitty living situation with my ex and needed this mattress gone ASAP. I didn't have time to compare quotes but it's unfair, you set up appointment up and they don't give you any quote or anything. First and last time I will ever use them. No Idea which location I called... all of the communication I had was from Tinley Park phone numbers, but that could simply be the drivers. I called and asked for an estimate on removing a baby-grand piano from a third-floor walk-up condo. They told me they'd have to send out a crew to give an onsite estimate, but that they'd recently done similar removals and it had cost about $379.00. So I was told that when they arrived for the estimate, if the price was acceptable, they could/would remove the piano on the spot. We made an appt. for two days later from 1-3, and I got a confirmation text. They called that afternoon, and said they could come tomorrow instead... same time frame, if I'd prefer... I agreed. Tomorrow arrives, and I get a phone call at 11:30a.m. that they are 10 minutes away. Unfortunately I am 20 minutes away.. they say that's fine... they'll wait. I drop everything and run down there... nobody's there. I call back the cell that called me and they say "oh, we got called away...." We can call another truck, but it'll be another hour or so. Well, NOW, that time no longer works for me... so we reschedule for tomorrow (the day we originally scheduled for. He also tells me that for a baby-grand on a third floor walk up, they'll need four guys... and they'd only sent two. So I ask him to make sure to send four guys tomorrow. They assure me they will. Tomorrow arrives (today).... and the guys are an hour late (yes, they'd told me 12-2:00... but called me at 11:15 to tell me there were 45 minutes away... and surprise, surprise... they don't arrive until 12:45... and with only two guys. (Don't worry, they say, we can get two more guys here within about 30 minutes or so)... Meanwhile they inspect the piano, and the staircase... and they put their heads together... and they call their manager (Omar) on the phone who now tells me that they can't move the piano... due to "liability". Really? What has changed? It's still a baby grand... it's still a third floor walk up (the staircase, btw is a nice wide one)... I can't get any other explanation from them other than they're not willing to do it at all. So now, they have a very disgruntled person (can't really call myself a client, can I, cause I did not use their services?)... but they have now wasted several hours, and days, of my time. I scheduled an appointment with 1-800-GOT-JUNK two weeks in advance to clear out my late parents' home before the sale closed. Despite confirming the date multiple times, they repeatedly tried to reschedule via text, which I declined due to the tight timeline -- we had to be out by Wednesday for the new owners. We had already donated items to Goodwill and Amvets and sold a few pieces, but there was still a significant amount left -- quality furniture and boxed miscellaneous items, including some bagged trash. Since 1-800-GOT-JUNK claims to donate usable furniture, we chose them for the final haul. Leading up to the appointment, I confirmed the details and asked if we would need additional staff. I was told they would assess and adjust accordingly -- which didn't happen. The scheduled arrival window was 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. They didn't show up until 2:30 PM, with a truck already one-third full. I was expecting two empty trucks, as quoted. I called to express my concerns about the delay and the partial truck and was offered a 10% discount. It got worse. We were quoted for two full trucks. After filling the first, we were told a second would arrive shortly. Instead, they returned with the same truck still full and then claimed a miscommunication. My family moved items into the garage while waiting. Eventually, they arrived with a second, mostly empty truck, and began loading. Then a third truck arrived -- one-third full and reeking of dog feces. At the end of it all, they asked us to void the original check and issue a new one -- totaling $1,600 for 2.5 trucks. After they left, they called to say they couldn't accept a check over $799. One employee drove 45 minutes to return the check. Meanwhile, I called customer service to report the disorganized, disappointing experience. No one ever called back. My husband had to step in to demand accountability. In the end, we received a total discount of 12.5%, or $200 -- but the stress, delays, and lack of professionalism were not worth it. Still no follow-up. I expected better. Customer service needs to be accountable for knowing what is junk and what is valuable. We definitely did not have trash any stinky trash but old items and nice furniture. The trucks need to be cleaned, when in our situation is a better approach for people needing to get rid of items. If it's for garbage and hoarding jobs, they should be scheduled accordingly. So for having this scheduled two weeks out and gave a list of items that was needed to be removed and cleared so they can donate, this wasn't a good experience. The only negative was that we scheduled them (with confirmation) for 9:00AM and they didn't show up until Noon which impacted the rest of our planned day. They were also hours late to give us an estimate. So a mixed review -- hoping the scheduling team takes this feedback and gets better and managing their customer's expectations. Will pull out a rate card after lying to you that they can't discuss pricing over the phone because their "customer quotes." These are not customer quotes. These guys EYEball your things and will you it's equivalent to the size of a few fridges. Then that's when the salesy pitch comes in with a three price range and if you don't like it they will "call their boss" to sell you into the service. So if you go with them Use them how they use the employees and their customers. Negotiate and play hard ball! They will be willing to drop your price to $150-300! If you want to save yourself the headache go with Chicago Furniture bank. I've done business with them. You pay what you what to donate and they will pick up your decent furniture. I had all new appliances installed in my kitchen, but there was a mix-up and they couldn't take the old ones. I live in Chicago, where there isn't space, and couldn't have a refrigerator, microwave, stove, and dishwasher sitting with the trash; the townhome association would have had kittens. What to do? Start calling junk and appliance removal services ASAP. This was the place that was able to do the job within a few hours tonight, so they won the job. They weren't the cheapest--I got a text from a woman at another service saying they'd be able to do it for $198, but they couldn't come until tomorrow and unfortunately in this case time was definitely of the essence. The guys came within an hour and had all the appliances loaded within five minutes--from the time they pulled up to the time they pulled away was ten minutes tops. They were pretty transparent about pricing, though they couldn't give us an exact cost because they charge based upon how much it fills the truck. There was a $25 fee for Freon removal. The crew called us prior to their arrival. They showed up on time. Danzelle and William B. were phenomenal. They came in and hit the ground running. When they were finished they cleaned up. My mother and I were so impressed until we booked them for the following weekend. The only issue we had was the fact that we were told that there was a flat rate to use the entire truck. However, when the team arrived they informed us that if they went past two hours then it was $100 per team member per hour. My mother was not informed of this until the crew arrived. Today, around 4pm, I was riding my bike northbound on Clark, where the street is two lanes wide. I was passed dangerously close (within 3 feet, the state minimum to pass a cyclist) by two 1-800 Got Junk trucks. At the following stop light, I ended up ahead of both trucks. After the light turned green and I had gotten up to speed I moved further into the center of the right lane, hoping the trucks would pass me in the left lane this time, because cyclists have the same right of way as other vehicles (to quote the Secretary of State: "Motorists must yield the right of way to a bicyclist just as they would to another vehicle.") Instead, both trucks passed me even closer than the first time, and the driver of the rear truck leaned over to flip me off and yell at me to get out of the way (more from the Secretary of State: "If a motorist passes too close to a bicyclist and it results in a crash, the motorist may face criminal charges. Crowding or threatening a bicyclist is prohibited.") In fact, it was illegal to pass me at all in this situation. Again, the Secretary of State: "A bicycle proceeding in the same direction as a motor vehicle can be overtaken by that vehicle when: * The bicycle is traveling at a speed of less than half of the posted speed limit. (I was riding at nearly 20mph and Clark's speed limit is 30.) * The driver is able to overtake and pass the bicycle without exceeding the speed limit. * There is sufficient space to the left to pass when overtaking the bicyclists. (Definitely not.)" At the following stop sign, the driver of the rear truck continued to yell at me, threatened to "kick my ass," and actually stepped out of the truck (blocking traffic behind) and approached me. Fortunately this was as high as it escalated. After he drove away, I pulled off and called the number listed on the 1-800 Got Junk website to report the drivers. I was connected to a customer service rep who told me they would report the incident but that they were not allowed to follow up with me and that they were also not allowed to give me the contact information of the local franchise. Which is why I'm leaving this review as I feel I have no other recourse. I wouldn't leave a review for a business I've never dealt with, but your drivers should be required to know the rules of the road when a large amount of their job requires driving on it. They did come rather quickly the same day I called and I'm glad the stuff is gone, but I bet a lot of people don't know to haggle and agree to the first price given. Fast & effective service but ambiguous cost model is a customer risk. My junk was cleared quite effectively and in a timely manner but the disposal was not done in the manner that was agreed. This resulted in a significant cost escalations that was determined only after most of the work had been done. While their flexible cost model appears customer friendly, but it's ambiguity also poses a customer risk as I found out. I will not repeat or recommend this service for this reason. read more
