Way over priced, and a RIP OFF! They came here 2 days ago, gave us a specific quote to remove items from our shed. And instead of loading the big items first (which would make sense), they started throwing every and anything in there. So, of course, everything couldn't fit, and when we asked if they were coming back to get the rest of stuff, they said they would have to charge us half of the original price to come back. On a rainy day last month, I witnessed one of the trucks from this company deftly maneuver around heavy traffic on a slick 7th Avenue and 27th St. The other motorists on the road were driving very recklessly and I nearly witnessed a few close calls but whomever was driving the 1-800-Got-Junk? truck avoided it and avoided it well! I've not had the opportunity to use this junk removal service but I would based off the fact that the employees behind the wheel show themselves to be safe drivers. Overall, I'm happy with the completed job and would consider both using 1-800-Got-Junk again and/or recommending them to others. Booking: I needed to have a single-item (a sleeper sofa) removed from my apartment in the UWS. On Tuesday, I was able to conveniently book a time slot via their website for the coming Thursday (today). I received a phone confirmation call + email on Wednesday (the day before our appointment). Service: I received a "heads up" call ~25 min before the two-person team showed up, which I super appreciated as it was an early morning slot. Both men arrived (sorry only got Francisco's name!) and were extremely professional, tidy in appearance (+ masks & gloves), and honestly got the job done sooooo quickly it had me wondering why it took my husband and his friend an hour to get the couch into the apartment in the first place lol. Pricing: They advertise a no-commitment pricing policy, but are unable to give quotes online/phone. Instead, they'll send a team out during your scheduled time slot who will evaluate the job, give you the quote on the spot, and then you can accept or send them on their way. I can see how this would be convenient for large jobs, but found it a little frustrating as I was only having one item removed (for which I provided a description and measurements). When they arrived, they had a price list for various 1-off items; because this existed, I wish they had just shared with me the pricing ahead of time. I paid $298 + tax - $10 discount to have one sleeper couch removed. I can't say if this is competitive pricing or not, but everything in Manhattan continues to give me sticker shock even 5 years later *shrug*. It was worth it for me for the speed and convenience. I imagine pricing becomes more competitive the more items you're removing. Overall, I'm happy with the job. I can not say enough wonderful things about my experience with 1800GOTJUNK. The way pricing was handled was clear to me from the beginning. I estimated that I would fill a truck. They showed up on time and provided an estimate to remove assorted items (furniture, mirrors, books, carpets, etc.) from my 2-bedroom apartment in Manhattan. The estimate includes 2 hours of work/removal and after the 2-hour time period, the additional fees begin. Two men...really...how much can they possibly remove within a two hour period and using an elevator no less. Needless to say, of course the charges/estimate increased in order to get the job done, and then I was told the truck was full and I needed a second truck. So, we had to start again and I was charged again for 2 men for a total of 2 hours, or the additional time would be added to the base fee. A suggestion to anyone using this service. Be aware of the "starting time" and "ending time" because the clock begins and the fees increase. Also, be sure you're aware of what is being removed and unfortunately I did not watch every single move that was made. Shame on me! The two men from both trucks were professional and polite, but the manner of operation of the business itself leaves a bit to be desired. The fees add up quickly if the workers don't hustle and the elevators are in use and the items being removed are not removed first and then placed onto the truck. If they bring the items down and place them into the truck, rather than continuing to bring the items to a convenient location and then load them, precious time is wasted and the additional fees will surely get your attention. read more

Not worth the time or money! I only had a few items that needed to be removed from my rental. I was told over the phone it would be no more than $200. When the two employees came in to look at what needs to get done, they seemed very unenthusiastic to work. Immediately told me it would be close to $600. Refusing their service after given that outrageous amount, the two men left. About 20 minutes later, they called me back. Telling me their boss was "riding their ass" about the job and would bring the price down to $299 "for only the big items". Felt like a scam. Never again! read more

The team communicated their specific arrival window promptly, as well as how the process worked once they arrived (which was very helpful). My experience was some years ago but I still feel people need an honest review. This was in Northern Westchester and I was liquidating my parents' house. This company has ubiquitous ads and bills themself as ecologically forward because they recycle or donate items. Although they apparently do recycle, the only thing they were interested in donating were large pieces of furniture. Everything else was trashed, small items which an organization like Goodwill could make use of. I know that it shouldn't matter that some of these items were family heirlooms, but I had to leave the house because of the sound of things breaking when they literally threw the items out the window into their truck. Estimates they give are subject to change because it depends on how many trucks they have to fill. I was not able to leave a review on their site and the only ones they posted were positive. read more

I couldn't be happier with my experience with 1800GotJunk. We have been in the same office for just about 6 years and are just about to move to a new office. I had been dissatisfied with my Leesa mattress, which had been causing me health problems sleeping on it, but it was quite a stressful process trying to return it. Eventually, they connected me with 1-800-GOT-JUNK, which was one of their donation partners to get the mattress returned. I scheduled a time window of 8-10am, and Steven and Leo were right on time with the pickup, giving me a call a little bit after 8 to let them know they were coming and confirm the time window, and then getting here around 8:30. I called to schedule an appointment and they wouldn't give me an estimate because they needed to "see" the items I needed thrown out, even though I told them it was a full-sized bed mattress, wooden bed frame (no disassembly required), and small wooden table. I was naive and didn't ask for a range or minimum. Two guys arrived at the scheduled appointment time (punctual and professional) and told me it'd be $350 to remove. Granted, they were fast, cordial, and efficient- but I was shocked at the price. And if it's the day you're moving, it can put you in a corner where you just say yes. I'd be aware that their prices are a little ridiculous and seek out other options - or at least get a base estimate before they arrive. read more
