We had to dispose of an upright piano prior to a move, and I called around to 4 local junk companies for estimates, including Got Junk. The other 3 quoted me in the 500 dollar range, understanding that it might change a bit depending on the labor it would take to get it out. Given that it was on the first floor right in front of an exit and on wheels, I wasn't that worried. When I spoke to the Got Junk woman, she did inform me that they didn't give official estimates on the phone. I told her I understood and, since we were on a time crunch, asked if she could give me a ballpark for what it generally cost for people to get rid of an upright piano? She said $450. Based on that, I booked them, recognizing it to be on the low end of the range the other companies had quoted. I figured that even if it went up $100, we'd still be in the right range. When the people arrived for our appointment, the person saw the "for sale" sign in front of our house and the first thing he asked was when we were moving. Then he looked at the piano and said "Oh, a big boy, huh?" Given that it's just a normal sized upright piano and not a baby grand, I knew we were in trouble. After looking at it for a minute, he started pointing at pictures on his clipboard, saying that it would be $650 for the base cost, plus X dollars for space on the truck, plus X dollars for an additional fee, and the whole thing came to $1,100!! We declined, voicing our displeasure in what felt like a bait and switch, and they went back out to their trucks. A few minutes later, the manager calls and says that he heard it was a "little high" for us. After pointing out it was more than twice the price, he said the woman shouldn't have given us a quote. I told them that is for them to figure out, not us. Plus, if the other junk companies were quoting $500, what possible reason could there be to charge over 1,000? He then said that the lowest they could do is $600-$650. While this sounded better, given that they dropped the price by almost half, it made me suspect (even more) that they were trying to take advantage. In the meantime, my husband was on the phone with a scrap metal collector who took it for $280. So we said no. Obviously, we didn't have the easy experience they claim in the commercials. I have always used Got Junk. Have always been satisfied the the pricing and the workers are always friendly and go above and beyond to help. Unfortunately I leaarned after they assessed the cost that 1/4 truck load of just empty cardboard boxes , an area rug and couple of garbage bags were going to cost me $448! i made a appt to remove a full size couch and not only did Nick and Jamie arrive on time but were super nice and efficient , i could not be any more happy and relieved to get rid of that couch . it took maybe 10 minutes for them to get it down my curvy steps and it was icy out and the pavement was slippery , they both did a great job . i would highly recommend 1-800 got junk to anyone and everyone. and completley worth the price . read more

I could not recommend the Boston West team highly enough. I asked them to come for a "few items" and ended up on a mission to clean out the whole house - which they did in a few hours without complaint. First of all, I called them with 12 hours notice to book on Labor Day weekend. They accommodated my schedule, and then when they saw I had much more to go than I had described, called additional trucks to stop by for assistance. I had 2 positive encounters with them last year, so I decided to try them again. This time the guys refused to do the work because the house was too stuffy. The thermostat was set at 65. Turns out they moved one of the items and saw some dried cat throw up and decided to not do the job. Last year they cleaned out the garage and didn't flinch when they found a dead mouse. Ok I see all the positive reviews. And 1 of the guys was awesome. But 1 of the guys spent 95 percent of the time talking about - with specific detail - other jobs he worked on - again SPECIFIC customer details - and what they had picked up there. Yes there were hoarders, porn and dildos. Yes indeed - very loudly me and my neighbors heard about a 70 year old woman who had dildos. And they pack the truck so that it fills up quickly. Perhaps other people only used this type of service once and don't realize it. I do a lot of work where my people have to fit a lot into a truck - and I know that what they collected could have fit in 1/2 that truck if it had been properly stacked. AND even then they left all the loose type junk that would have fit and it still cost $503. Never use again - do not recommend. read more

Given a 2-hr window, from 4-6 PM, and having spoken to the initial team assigned to me 2x, I received a call at 6:15 from a different crew, informing me that the job had been passed to them. And they would make it to my house in 45 min. An hour later they arrive, are less than helpful with the issue of consulting re: the hot tub removal (which I mentioned in my comments when booking, AND spoke to a rep on the phone about). Then when hauling the small amount of stuff we still had, they scraped-up our newly finished (but fully dried) floor in the garage, after having JUST been asked to please be careful. $200.00 later, and we now have to re-do the garage floor. This company is a nightmare and they lied. My mom died 2 months ago and I am trying to clean out her yard. The men on the truck were supposed to call me between 10 and noon from my mom's house and give me an estimate. At 12:30 I called them and was told they tried to reach me and that they had been to the "sight". I did not receive any calls on my work phone and had a missed call at 9:10 from some number I did not know on mu cell phone. fter reading a lot of different reviews online and seeing complaints about up front pricing, I was wary about what to expect, but was very happy when the first question I asked was answered without hesitation: how much if I fill up the truck? Right away, I knew the maximum (plus any fees for CRT tvs or monitors) that I would be paying. Easy. Since pricing is by volume, you can ask for pricing at each step; quarter, half, or three-quarters full. Until everything is in the truck, they truly can't tell you how much, but knowing the max and pricing for partials will give a very good idea of what to expect. I'm very, very pleased with the service I received today from the team from Holliston. They were friendly, personable and very accommodating. The guys took everything I initially showed them plus all the other things I found along the way. They even cleaned up the garage floor in the area where the bulk of the junk had been stored for years. I highly recommend this company and would advise anyone I know to use them. Sure, it might be cheaper to get a container and fill it yourself, but having someone do it for you is worth every penny more. read more
