All right, so I have been to two China's cuisined buffets (cuisined a word? O_o). I have been to Happy Dragon and this place. It is SOOOOO much better. First off, I am so flattered that they treat you like a VIP at this place. I mean a parking spot for China Buffet customers? Are you serious. OH EM GEE!!!! (sign attached) Now for the food. This place has TONS of meat variety: chicken, fish (don't ask me what kind), muscles (the sea kind -_-), squid O_o, pork stuff (for all you pig fans), and beef (for all you cow fans). lol Just a note. For anyone who has not had squid, it tastes like an undercooked boiled asaparagus stalk. Could have been a tentacle. Who knows? Was bummed they did not have duck! Anywho, I went with trying everything. All the chicken was good, but since there were so many cooked varieties, I could not stop to think what one was the best. Literally could not keep track. Noodles were great and the boiled green beans were great. Loved the waitresses. One went out of her way to get me some hot sauce in a saucer!! The other, or else I think the same one, kept cleaning off the plates I was finished with. To drink, I got the almond milk and I got the BOBAS (pronounced "bow" as in bow and arrow and "ba" as in what a sheep says). They are like these little citrus tapioca shaped balls they put in your milk/fruit beverages for $0.50 extra. Once they pop in your mouth, they release the juice. So good! Loved the rice cake thing for desert and those swirly chinese bread pastries. I had other American deserts there, but who cares to know about those? Overall, I found nothing wrong with this place. If you had a problem, I suggest coming at the start of the buffet when everything is fresh. Fortunately, I work part times and I did not have work today, so I got to this place at 30 minutes until 11a.m. Whole thing cost me $12.00 with tip and $7.18 for Mon-Fri lunch. Cheapest price folks! The foods good, service has always been decent every other time I've been here. However service was weird tonight. Server was good and quick with refills but then made us pay before we were finished eating - and by made us pay, I mean MADE us pay right then and there. She had left the ticket before we were done with our main courses, came back while we were eating dessert and picked up the thing which held the receipt and said "you want to pay now?" OMGosh - I had just gotta my soup and the Health Dept Inspection walked out of the kitchen with two of the restaurant employees and "heated words" we're being exchanged!!!! He made them throw everything away on the salad and dessert bar and they could not add anymore food on the hot bar until he was done, then he made the sushi chef throw everything out Those of us in the restaurant sat there in shock - we ended up just getting up to leave when the waiter ran over to give us our check!!!!!! When thinking about buffets, I normally take a quantity over quality approach but #1 China buffet is not lacking in the quality despite it having the quantity. It always hits the spot and has a variety of options for people. I am vegetarian for the most part and they have great veg options as well as tons of other options for those who aren't. They have good food and a good selection but the service sucks! The sushi chef/Mongolian grill operator get pissed when you take sushi or want something cooked. I have been to #1 China many times and my mileage has varied. I've had several 4-star experiences, but a few 1's or 2's as well. Last night was as good as it gets, though. My lady friend and I rolled into their parking lot at about 8:45pm last night and there was only one other car there. This concerned us. If no one is there, how can I expect it to be fresh? We were pleasantly surprised. We entered and were immediately greeted. After we were seated our drink orders were taken and we were told to enjoy. There was only one other couple there and they were seated in a different section. The restaurant staff also seemed to be having dinner, but our service was excellent. The food was...very hot and very fresh. It was the best surprise I've had in a while. There were a few of the less popular items that looked a little past their prime, but everything I had was very good. My lady, who happens to be #1's biggest critic at times, also loved her food. She is a Crab Rangoon connoisseur and was very happy with not only the quality but with the fact that they replenished at about 9pm. The only thing keeping this experience from being a 4 or 5 star is our previous experiences and it does feel a bit pricey. Dinner for 2 with water and 1 hot tea ran me $30 and change after tip. However, this cemented the fact that we will be back. Probably later in the evening on a Thursday. read more

Standard-issue American Chinese Buffet. I remember at one time years ago going there and enjoying it. I was there with my wife last month, and we were wanting to try a Chinese buffet since we hadn't been to one in a long time. I remembered this place as decent. I was wrong. The food is greasy and of questionable quality, lots of gristle and sauce. All the typical expected Chinese-American dishes, nothing special or unique. The sushi was questionable in quality. Service was somewhere between weak and nonexistent. Ambiance and atmosphere was stereotypical touristy gift-store Chinese decor that looked grimy and run down. #1 offers standard Chinese fare for a slightly expensive price, although the weekday lunch buffet is a great deal. The food is good, a step above take out, but not amazing - it can be oily, and the nigiri is too raw to be palatable. I adore the desserts, and would recommend the rainbow cheese (best buffet item IMO), salt & pepper shrimp, and coconut shrimp. Snow crab legs are also delicious but cost extra. I can't relate to the reviewers who have had bad service, this is one of the few places i've been to in Lex with consistently polite and efficient staff. I've never tried the hibachi or requested sushi from the chef though, so I can't speak about that. Overall, it's a nice buffet and a familiar favorite since I catch their lunch buffet often. I wouldn't go as far as to say this is my favorite buffet in town, but it's not the worst (sometimes) As far as a Chinese Buffet goes, consistency is key. I've been to this establishment on NUMEROUS occasions, (it's close to the mall) and whenever my girlfriend and I go we always wonder which side of the coin we'll fall on. The warm and fresh yummy side, or the cold and crusty crummy side. I came here craving Asian food, but seemed to eat more of the pork roast...this was the best I have ever eaten. The sushi wasn't bad either, but the noodles, sweet & sour chicken wasn't that good. My wife and I ate here tonight and it wasn't bad. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The price for an adult is 10.25 but it's worth it for the amount of food available. The food was actually pretty good for the most part. There were a few items that were a little greasy but nothing major. You can pretty much get anything you want which helps. The only reason this place gets a 4 star is due to the atmosphere. It was very bottom line decor. It doesn't affect the food though which is the important part. It also wasn't that busy so it was quiet and you had plenty of seating options. Overall it was a good experience. Oh and if anyone is interested the current health rating of this restaurant is a 92 which isn't great but shouldn't scare you away our anything. read more

Went on Christmas Day night with family before a movie. Made it through the movie, barely. This food made me so sick I have been up all night throwing up. Had explosive diarrhea at the same time as having to puke at one point and ended up choosing to puke all over myself instead of painting my bathroom in liquid poop in trying to turn around and up-chuck in the toilet. I mean neither are fun to clean up afterwards but at least puke all went down to the floor where as the other could have splattered the ceiling? I have been coming to this buffet for years and actually chose this place for my birthday lunch a not long ago. However, my dinner on Friday was a huge disappointment. The waitress promptly took our drink order after my party was taken to our table. We then followed the standard procedure and went to the buffet. The fish looked like it had sat there all day and appeared to be very dry. I got sweet and sour chicken, lo mein, hot and spicy shrimp, a spring roll, crab rangoon, mei fun, fried rice, and some fruit for dessert. Before we ate, I noticed the waitress never brought our drinks. After watching her flirt with another male customer for about 10 minutes (there were only 5 people total in her serving area), and completely ignore my attempts to get her attention; I finally got up and asked could we please have our drinks. She brought us unsweetened tea when we asked for sweet tea, and never once came back to give refills. Anyways now to the food sweet and sour chicken was unedible, dry and old. The lo mein was dry and hard in places. The shrimp and crab rangoon were cold. Everything else was fine including the rice. I also noticed the person (who I thought was a customer at first) watching over the buffet was playing on their phone most of the time. Very unprofessional! What a shame. Maybe this was an off night without their usual staff, but I definitely won't be returning any time soon. read more

Like a previous reviewer, I visited several years ago and it was above par for a Chinese buffet. How things have changed. The food was terrible. Although the buffet is large, it seems to offer very little variety, especially in the stir-fry vegetable and meat range. Most of the items on the buffet are fried this and that (which I can appreciate, but more variety is needed). The food was bland. I went for the hibachi hoping to get some veggies out of the deal and ended up with a taste heap on my plate. I will never visit this buffet again. read more
