This location of 100% Antojitos Mexicanos is in a strip mall on Trenton, just west of the corner of I-69-C and Trenton, next to the entrance to The Shoppes at Rio Grande Valley shopping center. The strip mall has its own entrance on Trenton and the parking is not connected to the larger shopping center. I was there for lunch. The facilities appeared to be clean. I expected more people at lunch hour but it was mostly empty. TV screens on the wall were playing a Spanish language talk show, but the volume was not too loud. They have a nice dining room inside and also feature a patio where you can eat outside if you wish. I opted for the inside dining with air conditioning because it's a hot Summer! The ambience is pleasant, family friendly, and clean. The dining room is big enough to accommodate groups. It would also be suitable for a business lunch as it is clean and not too noisy. You order and pay at the counter. The menu is posted on a sign showing your options. I chose the flautas and a fountain drink. I think the prices are a tad high considering the area and competition, but still within reason. I know the location is a costly and prime location. Once you order, you're given a number on a stand to place on your table, and they bring your food to your table. For drinks you have a choice of bottled drinks (Mexican soda pop or beer), or fountain drinks. The fountain drinks are soda pop or "aguas frescas". The aguas frescas include limeaide, horchata, and another flavor (sorry I forgot what it was!). I would normally choose one of the aguas frescas, but they are made from concentrate rather than fresh, so I chose a soda. All food is supposedly made fresh when you order, so that's a plus. I had the choice of having guacamole covering the flautas or separate. I also got to choose two sides, and I got the rice and beans. The food is served on a paper covered tray. My flautas were good and crisp, and well filled. The guacamole is mashed avocado with nothing added, so any spice comes from the salsas. You can choose between the red or green salsas. I liked the flautas once the salsa was added. The salsas are decent, your typical Mexican taco salsas and are medium spicy. I would have preferred a molcajete style but they don't offer that option. Some parts of Mexico serve flautas covered in finely shredded cabbage or lettuce, onions, cream, and sometimes bits of radishes; Sinaloans even add some chicken broth which really adds flavor. I wish that was an option here, but the guacamole and salsa is still good. Mexican food, even standards like flautas can vary a lot from one region to another. We all have our favs. The rice and beans were bland, non-descript, and portioned small. I found the size of the portions (the whole plate) on the scant side and was still a little hungry after finishing. Had I been at home I would have gone for a second helping. Perhaps other menu choices are more filling. Overall I enjoyed my visit. The ambience and freshly made food is what impressed me most, the employees I interacted with were nice and efficient, the food was OK, but lacked any "wow" factor. There are so many Mexican food restaurants in the area all serving similar items, I feel that for the prices this place could use to raise the bar to be more than just another taco place. read more

I was ready to not to like this place as the restaurant is located in a strip mall surrounded by Food Chains that serve factory foods to the millions. These guys are not a food chain they are OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!! Amazing food!!!!! I was driving by on my way to San Antonio and wanted a quick bite. The Antojitos in the name means Snacks, I would eat here every meal of the day or night. I had Tripa tacos to go!!! On flour tortillas. First a flour tortilla closer to the border is thinner than what you maybe used to and smaller, that's healthy. Tacos were clean, flavorful, juice, beans fresh w/ bit of spice, grilled onions, sprinkle of cilantro. They are very neat and clean front of house and the service is excellent. They have a small space for outdoor seating. Natural juices I tried a bit of all of them they were refreshing!! I'm glad we found each other hopefully others will too. read more

If you love salty refried beans then this is the place for you. The refried beans are chock full of salt. Do not order anything that has refried beans unless you like salt. The charro beans were also salty but not as much. Again though, the refried beans must have handfuls of salt. I ordered the panchos to go and threw them away after the first bite. $12.99 plus tax down the drain. The little fried potatoes that seem to come with every order were good. If you order anything with refried beans (which is most items on the menu) then know you're salt intake will be through the roof. First time trying and taking a chance on this restaurant, and was thoroughly disappointed. Not because of service, the service was fine, but I feel like maybe the owner is maybe a tad out of touch of touch with the competition in the area? I'm not sure. I wasn't really impressed at all with what I ordered at all (Tacos Bistec) There are many other restaurants that you could easily have a better experience at. There wasn't anything particularly wrong or offensive of my tacos other than the fact that they were SUPER average. And to be honest very lacking in portion size. I understand there is a pandemic going on and cuts have to be made, but the tacos were literally 1/3 filled within the already small tortillas. I have to preface that I am not a big eater, it doesn't take a lot of food for me to feel full, I could literally eat 8oz of a protein and a side and be completely satisfied. But I feel the portions were very small for the $8.99 price tag, and there's the thing with the price. I have absolutely no problem shelling out for small portions if the food is good, and the point in making is, why would I come here if I could get way better tasting food with better portions and wow factor. It just doesn't make sense because you'd think with the nice colors, restaurant building signs, colorful menu, you'd think the food would reflect what seems to be a good restaurant. Sadly it isn't the case. The biggest offense was the side of "papitas". Little cute wedge cut fries that I thought were going to be good. God was I wrong and disgusted, I'll be including a image with my review to show what they looked like. The were not fried correctly, they were SOAKED in oil and grease and they were mushy, floppy and just plain gross. One bite and all I could say was "no thank you" it really soured the entire experience and disgusted the rest of the meal. Absolutely disappointing, you could tell they were "fried" in oil that wasn't hot enough. I don't know how they were able to get them so soggy to be honest, it's like they intentionally tried to make them bad. The side of beans were fine but I kid not, the 8oz cup of beans was only filled half way, which was utterly baffling, I've never seen a taqueria be so stingy with a very low cost side. Again I'm not a big eater, but there was just something that was overall insulting over the overall portion and quality control. You won't see me dining here ever again and I would never recommend this restaurant to friends or family. Considering the location, you could literally step outside the restaurant and toss a coin to a better taqueria in a earshot. If you are deciding to try this out I hope others out there will find this review before making the decision. And I hope a manager/ corporate member sees this review, cause I can't imagine this location staying open long if this is the sort of experience that is being offered. Outside the restaurant it smells amazing. I thought the food would taste amazing too. Wrong. It is not authentic as they claim. The food has no flavor in it at all. Even though their food is so good they ALWAYS get my order wrong. I've been coming to this location for the past two years, today was the first time in a few months and today I remembered why I don't like coming here. Got my order wrong, didn't include the drinks and they charged me twice for cheese because the lady didn't know if the order of tacos had cheese or not so instead of checking she charged me again. It's ridiculous, one dollar is nothing but being inconvenienced every time really makes me a detractor for this place. Never going back again, don't recommend it. read more
