    Gonna try it

I was ready to not to like this place as the restaurant is located in a strip mall surrounded by Food Chains that serve factory foods to the millions. These guys are not a food chain they are OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!! Amazing food!!!!! I was driving by on my way to San Antonio and wanted a quick bite. The Antojitos in the name means Snacks, I would eat here every meal of the day or night. I had Tripa tacos to go!!! On flour tortillas. First a flour tortilla closer to the border is thinner than what you maybe used to and smaller, that's healthy. Tacos were clean, flavorful, juice, beans fresh w/ bit of spice, grilled onions, sprinkle of cilantro. They are very neat and clean front of house and the service is excellent. They have a small space for outdoor seating. Natural juices I tried a bit of all of them they were refreshing!! I'm glad we found each other hopefully others will too.

Gross soggy "fried" in low temperature oil potato wedges.. undercooked, and gross

First time trying and taking a chance on this restaurant, and was thoroughly disappointed. Not because of service, the service was fine, but I feel like maybe the owner is maybe a tad out of touch of touch with the competition in the area? I'm not sure. I wasn't really impressed at all with what I ordered at all (Tacos Bistec) There are many other restaurants that you could easily have a better experience at. There wasn't anything particularly wrong or offensive of my tacos other than the fact that they were SUPER average. And to be honest very lacking in portion size. I understand there is a pandemic going on and cuts have to be made, but the tacos were literally 1/3 filled within the already small tortillas. I have to preface that I am not a big eater, it doesn't take a lot of food for me to feel full, I could literally eat 8oz of a protein and a side and be completely satisfied. But I feel the portions were very small for the $8.99 price tag, and there's the thing with the price. I have absolutely no problem shelling out for small portions if the food is good, and the point in making is, why would I come here if I could get way better tasting food with better portions and wow factor. It just doesn't make sense because you'd think with the nice colors, restaurant building signs, colorful menu, you'd think the food would reflect what seems to be a good restaurant. Sadly it isn't the case. The biggest offense was the side of "papitas". Little cute wedge cut fries that I thought were going to be good. God was I wrong and disgusted, I'll be including a image with my review to show what they looked like. The were not fried correctly, they were SOAKED in oil and grease and they were mushy, floppy and just plain gross. One bite and all I could say was "no thank you" it really soured the entire experience and disgusted the rest of the meal. Absolutely disappointing, you could tell they were "fried" in oil that wasn't hot enough. I don't know how they were able to get them so soggy to be honest, it's like they intentionally tried to make them bad. The side of beans were fine but I kid not, the 8oz cup of beans was only filled half way, which was utterly baffling, I've never seen a taqueria be so stingy with a very low cost side. Again I'm not a big eater, but there was just something that was overall insulting over the overall portion and quality control. You won't see me dining here ever again and I would never recommend this restaurant to friends or family. Considering the location, you could literally step outside the restaurant and toss a coin to a better taqueria in a earshot. If you are deciding to try this out I hope others out there will find this review before making the decision. And I hope a manager/ corporate member sees this review, cause I can't imagine this location staying open long if this is the sort of experience that is being offered. I do not wish to be contacted for a apology or "compensation" but more so this is just a call out for this location to get it self together.

Had their lunch special chicken flautas . Good flavor and for $5.99 not bad. When I'm in the area I will be coming back and trying their different lunch specials.

Want a good plate of tacos at a good price? Then this is the place for you. All of their locations are clean and well maintained. The servers are helpful. They have daily specials that rotate and are a great value. We have always had good experiences at all of their locations and are confident you will too. Their tacos de trompo are very tasty. The only negative is that their beans aren't the best. Otherwise great food.

However, after we were seated on the patio, staff informed us that the kitchen closes at 10:00 PM, which was completely fine. Later, when they came by to ask if we wanted another round of drinks, we were told the bar also closes at 10:00 PM.. Around 10:15 PM, while we were still seated outside, staff locked the restaurant doors and turned off the lights while we were seated on the patio. Shortly afterward, a staff member told us we needed to leave and took our drinks, even though mine was still full. The issue isn't that the kitchen or bar closes at 10:00 PM--it's the lack of clear and consistent communication. If customers are expected to finish up and leave by 10:00 PM, that expectation should be clearly stated online, posted on the door, and communicated upfront when guests are seated. The current closing times are inconsistent and create a confusing and disappointing experience. Also the guac and margarita were lacking.

The place is very busy, but despite that the wait was only 10 minutes at 10:00 am on a Saturday. The hostess and our server were both very friendly. The place advertises that it specializes in home cooked comfort foods so we figured we'd have to see how their biscuits and gravy were. We ordered a 1/2 order and it came with a biscuit split in half and covered with gravy and sausage. The flavor was perfect - it definitely lived up to 'home cooked comfort food'. I ordered an omelette - three cheeses, sausage, bacon and ham with onions, cilantro and jalapeños - which came with refried (black) beans. The omelette was very good - flavorful and fresh. They actually use slices of cheese inside and on top - I've never had an omelette prepared that way but it was very good. When I first tasted the salsa I was not a fan - it was warm and had a different flavor - then I put it on the omelette and - great pairing and great flavor combo. The refried black beans were sadly underwhelming - no real flavor. I know they were homemade but they were missing the flavor that usually comes with refried beans (black or pinto) My wife had the quiche which had onions, peppers, sausage, mushrooms and cheese. It was very good. Even the crust was good. She ordered the breakfast potatoes as the side. The flavor of the potatoes was excellent. Half of them were lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside which were great; the other half were overcooked and became potato chips - good flavor but not a breakfast potato. We will definitely come back to try their lunch food and dessert (we were too full today). They have a good variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner items on the menu so there is something for everyone. We were glad we stopped in.

I've been a loyal customer for years. This place use to be THE go to spots years ago but I feel has dropped off as of late. Now it's restaurant policy for botanas that you have to either pay by phone or come to the resturant and pay them they cook your food. It seemed new as the restaurant was having folks order large amounts of food then not come to pick up. I get that but also not very common (IMO). There was a miscommunication with the employee over the phone. When I showered up and paid, it was clear they were barely starting my order. I waited about 25 min for my order in the small sitting area. For a botana for 4, it seemed a bit light on the meat (mixta with beef and chicken). They did do a good job with packing up the rice, beans and salsa. My wife really likes the breakfast here and that's another reason I keep coming. Average / subpar coffee. Homemade salsa chips are good but seem way over fried most times. Salsa is okay but not great. I'll only come back for breakfast tacos -R

La Casa de la Abuela covers every category for a delightful breakfast, brunch or lunch: a menu with great variety, quality delicious food, excellent service, a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere, good parking and a great location. My friend had the enchiladas suizas. I ordered the chilaquiles rojas con pollo. The menu warned that the salsa roja is spicy... and they are right. I like spicy, and this gave me the hiccups! Not to worry, they have several options, including mild ones. I was impressed with their molcajete of guacamole, the refreshing strawberry lemonade, the classy presentation of each dish. I almost ordered the chile relleno or the torta ahogada. I learned they make their own birote (a denser kind of bread roll) for the torta ahogadas, which is key for that dish hailing from Jalisco, which is smothered in salsa prior to serving. Everything I saw was spotless, elegant, and beautifully decorated. It's a new fave, and I will go back. When I do, I want to try one of their pastries: conchas, chocolate or strawberries and cream filled croissants, and more. This was a great place for a meet-up with a good friend. It would also be great for a date with my wife, a business lunch, or small groups. The dining room is not very big, so large groups would need to find another option.
